What The Moon Hides, Family Ties

16th July
Meyra closed her eyes, the fresh forest air flooding her senses, obliterating everything else for a moment. She welcomed the various earthy scents of the surrounding nature, letting the sound of cascading water running down the hills soothe her heart, like a natural balm bringing her back to the awareness of the moment, grounding her. She tried to let her senses take the helm, freeing herself from the complex knot that her thoughts had become. The only certainty that had dawned on her was that, after all, pursuing the truth should never be a regret to carry with her. But there was so much more to discover, so much more behind everything she had never even considered during all the times she had questioned the past she had never known. After all, Moray hadn't rejected her, never even abandoned her... he didn't have another family, he hadn't run away... after all, he had stayed. Stayed far away, yes, where he knew he could protect her and her mother. It hadn't been a lack of love that had separated them, however strange and perhaps inconceivable that might seem to many, it had been exactly the opposite reasoning. Meyra understood why it had taken thirteen years for her to see her father for the first time, because, certainly, her younger self would have reached a completely different conclusion after all she had found out during that day.
Nothing is simple. That had been the greatest truth she had discovered during the lunch she had shared moments before with Moray at the inn and the long conversation that had taken place after in that room. Her mother and Lewis had left them alone, giving them the space they needed to get to know each other without hers and Lewis’ presence intervening. Meyra knew that the decision had cost her mother dearly. She had seen it in her dark eyes, how they looked at her with sad acceptance, how they betrayed her words of encouragement. Harumi had never spoken ill of her father, never painted him as a villain in a story told with a distorted narrative. But Meyra always knew there was a deep hurt there, a plea for silence on the subject. Until then, Meyra had respected this request, until she herself uncovered part of the path that had led her there, to the Full Moon Sanctuary. “Mochizuki…” She whispered.
The conversation with her father was serene. He, contrary to what she had imagined, was a calm and patient person. She didn't know why she had imagined him as someone a little colder, more distant... perhaps her mind had confused and associated the distance in steps with the immeasurable distance in the heart. Or perhaps it was easier to accept his absence, creating the image of someone she wouldn't ever miss. But throughout the meal and the words they shared, he slowly put her at ease to ask her questions, and even the most difficult ones, he answered with tranquility and understanding. He wanted her to question him, he wanted her to understand, and more importantly, in his words, he wanted her to one day be able to forgive him. To this question, Meyra was still unable to answer. In all honesty, she didn't even feel angry enough to understand what he wanted her to forgive. There had never been room in her for anger, resentment, or even a feeling of abandonment...because in her life she had always had a father, in her memories there had never been a day when she had felt less loved or cherished. So...Moray's existence had always added to her life, even in his absence, it had never taken anything away from her.
"Meyra Lancaster-McCoire..." Mey murmured softly as she opened her green eyes, as green as the leaves that swayed high in the canopy of the large, ancient trees around her. It didn't sound so bad...did it? Her father had called her that...she hadn't had the courage to contradict him. Perhaps...perhaps accepting who she was wouldn't hurt anyone. There was a reason why her identity had been hidden, even from the official records. The same reason why her mother had abandoned that place, the same reason why her father had stayed away from both of them. It had been just another way to keep her safe...and it worked...for at least ten years. But what now? Now that she was there, now that she belonged to that place so intrinsically...did it make sense to continue living in a way that was hidden? Did she really think that her father deserved that? That she wanted it this way? Questions with answers she still couldn't find. Another day…a clear day…
And there…there they were again...those exciting sounds that could be heard in the distance. But now they were a mixture of yowls and yips, of someone… or rather…somethings running back and forth, and the constant splashing of water that distinguished itself from the sound of the river flowing naturally down the mountain. Mey decided to follow those sounds that spread joy through the forest. Something told her that she knew exactly who she would find down there. There was something too familiar in the tone of those sounds. And the presence of Lewis...of her uncle Lewis, was possibly a great clue that revealed her premonition as almost certain.
So Mey descended the remaining steps of the large stone staircase that led to the inn and, instead of following the path she had taken to the Sanctuary with her mother, she went in the opposite direction, following the natural course of the river. At that hour, the sun was already low, its rays giving the forest a golden aura, and the sky was painted in various warm tones that could be glimpsed through the branches of the tall pines and oaks. As the sounds drew closer, her hunch finally transformed into certainty. Beside one of the lakes formed between waterfalls and the winding river, Meyra found two white wolves, whom she had encountered many times before during full moon nights. This time they were accompanied by a fox and another wolf. The fox seemed even more cunning than a normal fox, and the wolf... well... that red wolf was HUGE! Meyra approached without making much of a fuss, but a smile lit up her face, "I knew I could smell wet dog from miles away!"

Lily was so excited. They had went through the mess that was Diagon Alley and now the family was hanging out at the Werewolf Sanctuary. She was in her fox form hanging out with her siblings. She kept an eye on Colin to make sure he was okay, to make sure that he was mentally okay right now at this time, but she knew deep down he would never really be okay after what happened. She would need to be there for him, she needed to step up and make sure that she was there no matter what even if she had to put her own studies aside. She was currently laying on the ground, watching her insane brother frolick around. Her eyes caught sight of the newcomer and she raised her head, her eyes and nose sniffing the girl out. Lily was being extremely protective right now because of everything that happened with Colin. Lily transformed back to her girl form and crossed her arms waiting for the girl to approach her. She didn't have to if she didn't want to, but for now Lily kept her eyes on the girl, not taking them off her until Lily decided she was safe.

What The Moon Hides, Family Ties
Cursa had been really curious about this Sanctuary place Colin and Liam and Lily's dad had briefly told them about the other day in Ottery St. Catchpole. Even their older sister Aoife seemed to be a little surprised by what their elder had to say. To be honest, Cursa had felt a little like an outsider at first. Especially the way Uncle Liam had stared at him that first evening. It wasn't unkindly, but the stare was certainly intense! And he just accepted Cursa as one of the gang! No explanation. No fawning. Just Cursa the American cousin was now Cursa the accepted son.
Cursa had been subject to Colin's stares several times, and he got the willies every time! And Colin was really just an Emily hearted goober! He could only imagine what Colin's stare would be like when they grew up a bit more and became aurors together! If Uncle Liam were anything to go by, Colin would be able to get Grindlewald himself to confess his greatest crimes and a signed statement of trying hard to do better in life!
But when they all finally got here, to this Sanctuary place, Uncle Liam had shown them the entrance through the mountain and indicated some of the points of interest and history of the place. Apparently Uncle Moray had something to do with founding the place. Uncle Liam had been a little coy on that topic, Cursa noticed. He'd have to dig a little deeper into what that could possibly mean. He had lain awake that night wondering: was it a test of some kind? Sort of let the new kid figure things out on his own? Well, one way or another, Cursa wasn't about to let the challenge go unfaced!

CURSA Naturally, as soon as Uncle Liam had left the four of them alone to explore, they gravitated towards the lake down below the inn. It was really a very peaceful place, Cursa thought. And to think it was all for Werewolves and their families! They spent the entire afternoon swimming and running around on the beach. It was clearly a popular spot as they weren't the only kids around!
Cursa wondered if they were all werewolves, or if they were just the children of a werewolf parent. Or could the parents be just normal wizarding folk and it was one of the children where were werewolves? Leave it to wizard without boundaries Colin to ask one of the boys they were playing with. "Say! Are ye all werewolves too?" Cursa face-palmed. Even Liam blushed slightly. Even Lily giggled at the question. "I'm a werewolf too!" he declared proudly.

But it turned out he learned something interesting. There was just something about Colin. His brother by choice. He still hadn't told any of them what really happened to him back in London. He could tell it was something really bad, though, something that could destroy him if they weren't on the watch for even the slightest signs of change.
COLIN & EMMI SITTING IN A TREE!
He kept it in his heart for now, but he had learned that Colin, and even Liam, were not defined by what the wizarding world called the curse of lycanthropy. He'd talked with Liam about it on several occasions, but Colin interestingly hadn't said much about it. They both, in their own ways, owned their wolfishness. Liam was calmer and more reserved about it. Whereas Colin---

lad? I can!" Colin exclaimed. "Me and Liam found out last year!" Yeah. Whereas Colin seems to have fully integrated his wolf and boy natures into one. Inseparable states of being. Two underlying existences. One body and one spirit for them to be in.
The other boy, Chris, snorted and splashed Colin! "No I'm not! Me brev is though!"
After a while in the water, the four sprawled out on the sand to dry off and warm up in the late afternoon sunlight. Cursa had also learned something else that afternoon. Eventually neither Colin nor Liam could resist transforming. They seemed to have gotten pretty good at it! As fascinating as it was to watch the two big white wolves sniffing and rolling about, it was Lily that really drew his attention.
She was presently laying on the ground in her fox shape, watching the others attentively. Occasionally her eyes would dart this way and that or her nose would twitch. That's when it struck him. Ever since that day in Hogsmeade, he'd known about Lily as "that incredibly annoying little sister" or "the real trouble maker" or "the girl that almost got eaten by a hagdoll". Yet in the last two weeks, Cursa could honestly say he had seen none of that. The red haired girl he'd come to know wasn't the reckless kid he'd thought he knew. Maybe she had gown up a bit.
What he could see now was a proud McCoire girl watching out for her big brother. She seemed to have carved for herself the role of protector. The way she tracked Colin down all through wizarding London. The way she went after old Whatsisname. He thought about what that could mean. She was a Gryffindorque after all, and according to Liam, Gryffindorque meant bravery and leadership. Maybe that all was really starting to show!
Cursa shifted his position. Lily turned to check him out. He gave her a wink and smile! It was time, Cursa thought. He hadn't told either Colin or Liam about this. In fact, even Lily didn't know yet! It was a mischievous little smile --- turning from Lily to the woofy boys playing tug-o-war with a stick.
"That looks fun Lils!" he said as he shot forward, taking on his own animagus form!
