Dhampir Application:

Reducio
Malus is, simply put, a dhampir. Which by definition is a half-vampire, half-human creature. Though most people would never know this because dhampirism is one of those things where it's made up of a lot of other attributes. From one trait alone she looks like a human, but if you put all of them together its quite clear she is not completly human.

Malus had the very top of the gradient in Dhampir attributes aside from her tanned skin. For example, she was born with pale, corpse-like skin (though tanned from time in the sun), long fingernails (she paints them red), and sharp teeth (though there are gaps where her canines should be), which did give her a vampiric appearance. When her teeth are out, they are quite sharp, resembling those of a sabre-tooth tiger.

She is a half-breed (she is 50% vampire, as both her parents were dhampirs as well), though her parents played the role of purebreds so that they would not receive hate from the wizarding community and possibly lose their jobs. Most people think that anyone of vampiric descent lives in the woods and preys on weak children, but they would be mistaken; most dhampirs (and maybe vampires) can play the human or wizard role perfectly, and barely anyone would know. Since Dhampirs have a slightly longer lifespan, she looks a bit younger than a lot of people of the same age.

Malus has a lot of the vampire abilities, such as speed and strength, but with far less intensity than an average vampire. In addition to this, she can consume both solids and blood, which is helpful for blending in as a normal human. Though she does have an unsettling aura, all of these traits are (in her luck) dismissed as normal for reasons like "She spends a lot of time outside" or "That's just how she is."

As a dhampir, she has an aversion to sunlight and will get burns if she stays out there for more than an hour; she will get badly burned. BUT that did not stop her from playing outside a lot → getting sunburnt → her sunburns healing → her skin tanning. So, she contrasts wildly with the rest of her pale family. In addition to this, silver also irritates her skin, and she can't be seen in most mirrors at Hogwarts because the mirrors are older and backed in silver so she avoids them.

Her parents are both dhampirs. Though they say they are pure-bloods (her mother actually was a pure blood before she got turned). Her mother is the result of a failed turning, while her father comes from a long line of dhampirs/vampires. Her family keeps this a secret, and so do the families of their parents. They use tonics and potions to make it look like they are not avoiding the sun and only eat normal food usually (blood is for special occasions). Her brother feels very differently, as he thinks it's cool that he's a dhampir and shows off his fangs and such.

Backstory:

Reducio
Her biological family were strong supporters of Voldemort’s ideology.(aside from her younger brother)
Father: Antonio Angelus
Mother: Maria Carmen Martínez
Brother: Mayhem Angelus

Malus was born in Spain at a vey young age, but soon moved to the Cotswalds of England. She speaks English and Spanish. Her early life was stressful. Her parents wanted her to be a prodigy in a number of subjects. She also spent a lot of her time at home studying or playing an instrument. He father worked for the Ministry of Magic where there was bound to be diversity even if her father hated muggle borns, squibs etc. Her father was working out a deal with a muggle-born in the Russian branch of the Ministry of Magic. When she injured the child of the man her father was doing buisness with ( it was a career changing deal ) and he sent her away to live with a co-worker from the Ministry of Magic. Mr. W. W. Wilson in London in the district of Angel. Her father disliked the man for his antics and thought that she would dislike him as well and that she'd be miserable. The reason they thought that she would dislike him is that they tried to raise her as a smaller version of themselves. While she is good at speaking English, her first language is Spanish (She's from Spain). And W. W. Wilson is smart and skilled in many languages including Spanish, so her parents placing her with him has no downsides.

When she was 10 in their residence in the Cotswalds of England. her family needed to do buisness with a muggle-born wizard. The muggle-born had a boy and had no other place to take him. Her father ordered him to keep the boy entertained so he would not disturb him and the other wizard. The boy loved her and made it quite apparent to her. When she rejecteted his proposal, he made a move to punch her in the nose. She made a move in self defense to push him back 5 inches. She never made contact with him because before she could push him he fell back 5 meters and fell into a table and got badly hurt.

The signs of Thaddeus Fitzwilliam being a Metamorphmagus were barely noticeable by the people around him that is, his parents almost didn't realize what was actually happening.

It all started with his hair.

Sometimes when he gets angry, the ends simply turns slightly red and it was of nothing noteworthy actually. Then sometimes when he's sick, it takes an unusual bluish-gray tone and occasionally when he feels particularly feels pleased with himself, he could see that it had quite lightened up a bit comparatively.

His Mother, Isolde blamed the fire in the room and his uncle, the weather. Once, his mother even accused him of having applied a faulty hair potion when no such potion was involved at all.

Nothing out of ordinary happened.

Most of the time, at least.

Whenever he tries really hard to understand something, his ears turned a little pointed. Though not significantly really but quite enough to be noticed by people with keen eyes.

His mother, sometimes look at him for an extra second or two. "Teddy?" She would say.

"Yes, Mumma?"

"Have your ears always been like this?"

Without looking up from his book, Thaddeus responded, "Like what, exactly?"

She just stared at him before shaking her head, "Never mind."

There were so many occasions where something like this happened. His nose was suddenly less prominent and more delicate one morning than it usually is. His eyebrows looked different when he was tired after a class, once.

One day after spending an entire afternoon shadowing and mimicking his uncle's mannerism, Thaddeus spotted his reflection in the window to find out he remarkably resembled the man's feature.

He laughed out loud. His family did not.

They just stared. For years, these incidents had been mere oddities, things they give mind to afterwards.

To them it was odd quirks of lights and such. The sort of happenstance that sometimes happened when you're born and brought up in a family of witches and wizards.

However the fact that their dear Teddy could do it on purpose made it difficult for them to deny. His parents finally understood about what they were seeing.

He was a Metamorph.

There hadn't been one in the family for generations, not for so long and that explained why they had never noticed it earlier. They never consciously looked for specific traits or talents of in their children.

They just assumed Thaddeus was being their dear Teddy and perhaps he was. From then on, his family became much more aware of the little changes in his appearance, to most of the occasional trick his feature played when he was upset, angry, I'll or thinking deeply.

Thaddeus discovered early that there was no fun in just copying someone when he could steal people's individual traits.

Pluck them out when he wishes and tuck them away when he's done.

A new nose here, a different jawbone afterwards and it goes on. And he was pleased when he got to know that he could one day turn himself into a reasonably good approximation of almost anyone. Who wouldn't be pleased, he thought.

At first, it had been for his younger cousins. Making his ears huge or his hair blaze with orange. Giving himself a ridiculous chin or a passing likeness of whichever aunt passed by the area was infinitely rewarding for they would laugh and laugh until it aches and the home shook with their mirth. Sometimes, he impersonated his cousins, making short exchanges.

It was all great and fun but that was until he found out that the changes doesn't always come at his beck and call.

Sometimes when he daydreams, his feature subtly changed without his knowledge. After staring at someone for too long, he sometimes found his nose resembled theirs. Sometimes, his eyes does. Sometimes, his lips and the list got no end.

Thaddeus could always lie with words but unfortunately for him, his magic had a will of its own.

Sometimes.

Character Backstory:
Reducio
Thaddeus Fitzwilliam was born on a drizzly Monday in October as the son of Cornelius Fitzwilliam and Isolde Hatherleigh in a draughty old manor situated on the outskirts of Pickering, North Yorkshire, away from a whole lot of muggles. The moors beyond its window were always grey and cold, the rain always finding its way against the glass and the fireplaces has been smouldering in a particular way for so many generations that now the smell of woodsmoke became inseparable from the place itself. Whether that was the reason behind why the scent clung so stubbornly to Thaddeus was uncertain and at six, questioning that became less important to him.

The Fitzwilliam were old blood. They held the sort of family name that lived for a very long time that they never bothered to advertise it and rather became bored of mentioning their blood status at all times. They kept their history behind closed doors, in the dust covered portraits, locked cabinets and family member names that appeared occasionally in old books in their library. They were quiet about their lineage in a way it suggested they couldn't find why they had to prove anything to anyone.

The Hatherleigh contrastingly brought noise. They arrived with loud voices and warm embraces, overfilling dining tables and an encyclopedic level of knowledge about every family scandal worth knowing. They remembered who married who, who eloped with whom, which great aunt had once hexed a neighbour's garden and which cousin of theirs had been disowned for the reason no one would explain in front of children.

And our Thaddeus inherited most of that side of the family with considerably more enthusiasm. Squalling into a mansion full of secrets, he grew into a young boy collecting secrets he way other children collected chocolate frogs. Compulsively. Joyfully. Giving no thought over what he might actually do with them. He remembered overhead conversations, noticed things adults wouldn't guess children would likely notice and developef an uncanny habit of asking precisely the wrong question at the right time.

There was always something happening in the Fitzwilliam manor and he wanted to know what exactly it was. If a door seemed to be locked, he wanted to know why. If two adults lowered their voices when he entered a room, vd wanted to know what their discussion was and if someone insisted to never repeat a particular story, Thaddeus considered that practically as an invite.

He was, in short, a child raised among secrets.

The same child found discovering others' secret to be far more exciting than playing with any toy.

First Instance of Magic:
Reducio
At six, when Thaddeus saw the teacup his mother was holding fall to pieces and then reassemble itself in mid-air, Thaddeus said silently to himself, "I want to do that." Seven years old, Thaddeus fulfilled that wish. during a heated argument over who made better biscuits, a chandelier-full of candles went out at the exact same time. It was trivial, yes, and highly significant.

Character name (First and last name): Rosamund Verney
School Year or Adult Level: 1st Year Ravenclaw
Link to the character page: Character Page
Character Special Race/Talent: n/a
Character Backstory:
Reducio
Rosamund is one of the last heirs of a small pureblood family with diminishing members. As the only child of her parents, she was taught at a very young age that the family name and lineage is given utmost priority, and that she is expected to someday marry well (to a respectable pureblood of her choice---it was heavily implied) and carry on The Legacy. Thus, she grew up with a private governess that taught her proper etiquette and imposed strict social calendars with a heavily curated pool of peers.

A life neatly laid out like this is a privilege to many. But, the problem with Rosamund is that she is a dreamer: She longs to someday create new spells and write new theories of magic just like the authors of the books in her family's library. Or maybe she'd discover long lost mythical creatures instead like Newt Scamander, who knows? She may be too young to really understand what her family is expected of her, but she does know that when her mother had her, she had to stay home manage the estate. She can't create new spells or discover new creatures if she stays home! Besides, managing the family accounts is boring no matter what her mother says.

She surmised that in order to avoid the future that she sees fast approaching, she has to create a proper, fool-proof Plan:
  1. Gather information. Find out how her cousins and peers are handling such, if they are. Perhaps find out why her family is obsessed with The Legacy, and then work backwards from there.
  2. Gather skills. If mother and father are adamant about this, offer alternate modes of what The Legacy would look like. Perhaps if she develops a unique skillset and she lands a lucrative work after she graduates, she can offer either the prestige of their family name through her or the wealth that comes with it.
And thus began a secret, years-long personal campaign, with Rosamund silently skirting the limits of her freedom, learned to sneak around, voluntarily created connections with her peers to gain information (which her mother ironically approves if it makes her daughter talk to prospective future partners), and excitedly looked forward to her admission to Hogwarts as the first step of her Grand Plan!

First Instance of Magic:
Reducio
When she was 6 years old during a social call where her family was hosting another, she accidentally exploded her teacup when a conversation she was silently following heavily implied that a virtue she upholds was seen negatively when it was shown by another.

She values curiosity and cleverness, which her family celebrates, but it was seen as arrogance when it was shown by a half-blood boy here. The disparity hurt her brain. When she had to physically strain to keep still and stay quiet in the social setting (because proper witches only talk when spoken to), her magic lashed out and exploded the teacup that she'd been holding on to for dear life, leaving her with tea all over her neatly pressed dress robes and her mother scolding her in private anyway.

Eleanor Livia Fairchild was born alongside her twin sister Aurora Grace Fairchild to a well known Healer at St Mungo’s, Victoria Hawthorne and Alexander Hawthorne who was a well known Auror. Eleanor was born 3 minutes before Aurora.

Growing up, she was especially close to her twin sister Aurora and would always protect her including her cousins. Eleanor looked up to both her mother and father and would always look forward to her father coming back from work just to hear his stories, which was how her interest in being an Auror developed.

Before Eleanor got her letter, she was homeschooled. Eleanor often was someone who would be someone who was determined to be the best of the best even when she was young as she wanted to make her parents proud and carry the Fairchild name with pride since she was close to her father, Alexander and her mother, Victoria and looked up to both her parents.

Whenever her father would come back from work, Eleanor would often ask him a story without names and her father would tell her without names about his work Alexander would tell Eleanor the names of Defence Against the Dark Arts spells that he had encountered during his work, this was before she got her Hogwarts letter. This was how her interest in Defence Against the Dark Arts developed.

Alexander was careful not to actually teach Eleanor to perform how to cast the spells, as he did not want her to have an advantage over other students once she started her studies at Hogwarts. Since Eleanor was curious, she would often ask a lot of questions about spells but she knew the names of a few spells from hearing her father mention them, however she had no practical knowledge of how to cast them. When she eventually began learning magic at Hogwarts, she was starting at the same level as her classmates.

First Instance of Magic:

At her 6 birthday Eleanor was given a toy broom and was supposed by her father as a birthday present. Eleanor wasn’t supposed to use it yet and her father had left it at the garden wall. She was just supposed to pretend.

But Eleanor hated to pretend.

She sat on the toy broomstick and pushed off the ground anyway.

Pretending she was a famous Quidditch player, Eleanor laughed with excitement the broom suddenly lifted several feet into the air.

From that height itself, Eleanor saw everything differently the way the sunlight hit the garden, shadows stretching across the ground and the colours in the sky as it changed. Eleanor was confused although she felt the adrenaline when the broom drifted to the ground, since she never meant to fly.

Later that day, she ran inside and paint exactly what she saw from her toy broomstick. When she recalled her excitement and wonder of flying on her broomstick, she had felt both the adrenaline and feeling of freedom itself. It wasn't the view alone she wanted to remember; she wanted to capture the excitement and wonder of flying for the first time.

Character Backstory:
Reducio
Maya and Ellery Beaumont were childhood sweethearts who were practically destined to be together from the moment their Pureblood families became friends. While Ellery's side of the family was racist against Muggles and Maya's was ambivalent, the pair were able to put that particular difference aside by making the decision to move to Bath using their inherited wealth and become rather reclusive before starting a family.

With Maya as a moderately successful author of books on historical magic, and Ellery a greatly successful seeker and seller of ancient magical artefacts, they were happy. For a time.

Everything changed when Maya's twin sister, Theodora, a Squib, decided to reject all things magical and become a war journalist on the Muggle side of the world. Although Ellery loved her as a sister, he couldn't agree with her decision and the relationship between him and his wife's twin became frosty. Things deteriorated with Maya desperately trying to help them get along, until it all came to a head and Maya went to speak with her sister in person in a warzone, her sheltered upbringing not preparing her for what Apparating into that entailed.

She found her sister, but mid-argument the city they were in suffered a devastating blow which left Theo dead and Maya mentally scarred despite magic healing her physical wounds. After that, Maya quit her job and rarely left the house, prone to anxiety attacks and nervous of anything to do with the outside world. Her relationship with Ellery turned sour, and he started doing more travelling, his return home becoming more and more rare, and his hatred of Muggles growing deeper and deeper.

Cas was an infant at the time of her accident, and so never truly knew who his parents were prior to it. He grew up loved and cared for by his mother, however he also frequently bore witness to her anxiety attacks and was her sole comfort since her husband was away so much. He became fiercely protective of her, and knowing what caused it caused him to hate anything non-magical.

His relationship with his father is complicated. His father had always been a serious man, but the accident and subsequent fallout turned Ellery cold and destroyed all forms of affection he would've once offered. While Ellery does love his son, his inability to articulate or express it has confused Cas's sense of what 'love' is, on one hand believing it's the affection his mother showed him, but on the other also believing it could be distance and providing wealth with an occasional drop-in.

The way his father talks about Muggles and praises Cas when Cas talks the same way about them has taught him that perhaps completely rejecting anything and anyone who doesn't share this view is the only way he can make the man proud. Since he was very sheltered and taught only by tutors - and only had acquaintances from when he went with his father to the rare pureblood event - his beliefs haven’t yet been challenged.

Unfortunately, growing up with a sense of deep familial duty has left him unable to truly explore himself. He doesn’t have material likes, and is uncomfortable thinking too deeply about his feelings and wants; since he was the emotional caretaker of his mother, he tends to prioritize her needs over his (despite her actively discouraging this). His unyielding loyalty and the incorrect belief that being loved is synonymous with being needed has instilled a sense that he must fix everything, and the fact that his celebrated first instance of magic was a repair has rooted that into the core of his being.

While he didn’t want to leave his mother to come to Hogwarts, he’s decided to make the most of it. He intends to study hard, observe the world thoroughly, and discover what has lead to the cracks he perceives in the system. Though he doesn’t yet have a concrete view of his own future, he’s leaning towards the Wizenmagot because they seem to be the people who can enforce change.

Not because he wants to, and not because he’s interested in it. Simply because he sees something broken and has determined that if no one else will fix it, he must.

First Instance of Magic:
Reducio
When Cas was five, Maya dropped her favourite teacup on the ground and became inconsolable when it shattered... possibly because watching it break brought back bad memories of things best left unsaid. Casimir, desperate to make his mother stop crying, moved to comfort her in any way he could. When all of a sudden the teacup was fixed with not a crack in sight despite his not touching it, both of his parents were relieved he wasn't following Theo's Squib path.

Delilah Magic was born to Muggle parents, and her magical abilities began to show themselves before anyone had discovered the reason for her powers. In her home, magic remained an unknown force which created strange occurrences that people found hard to comprehend. The room experienced automatic object movement, unexplained light disturbances, and two dangerous accidents which required immediate attention. Her parents argued often because they blamed Delilah for their problems. Delilah maintained her belief that she caused all the bad things which happened to her.

Before she turned five, home became an uncomfortable space for her. A sudden tragedy took her parents’ lives, leaving Delilah alone in a world that had never fully understood her. She stood outside one night when she had no destination to reach yet she held onto the delicate belief that things should not conclude in this manner.

She soon found company with another person. Magical adults discovered her presence that night and quickly recognized her magical identity and her tragic loss. The organization asked her only a small number of questions while they provided her with protection. They established her entry into the wizarding world while they ensured her future enrollment at Hogwarts.

Entering that world felt like a dream. New rules, spells, and expectations caused life to change its course. Delilah approached it cautiously, always waiting for something to fall apart. The excitement of magic required multiple attempts before she achieved a secure feeling about it.

School developed into a system which brought her organization. Magic transformed her understanding of what had once terrified her. She retained her past experiences yet they stopped controlling her life. Delilah developed into her authentic self which brought her both stability and magical wonder.

Delilah's first use of accidental magic was at the age of 4, they were with their muggle parents and they were talking about magic. Delilah was saying that they believed in magic. Xio Arcana is the youngest of eight children, initially born in Hawaii and then was raised in Scotland after her family moved when she was four years old. Her parents, Jasper and Gretchen Arcana, are brilliant Enchanted Object Specialists who own the family business, The Bumbling Trinket. Growing up in such a large, accomplished, and occasionally overbearing family has shaped nearly every part of Xio’s personality. She is deeply loved, constantly supported, even when sometimes it feels like lecturing, and rarely left alone long enough to make a mistake without one of her siblings offering advice, support, or correction. As a result, Xio has developed a strong desire to prove that she is more than just "the baby".

Xio is an Asian American girl with fair, lightly tanned skin, dark eyes, and black hair that is a wild mess. She has inherited her mother Gretchen’s expressive smile, along with her father Jasper’s sharper features and intense stare. Her appearance reflects the blend of her family’s backgrounds: her Hawaiian birthplace, her Asian heritage, and her upbringing in the British wizarding world.

Xio is curious, extroverted, and a wild bundle of energy. She notices more than people expect, particularly when it comes to emotions and relationships. Having grown up surrounded by seven older siblings, she learned early how to read a room, identify who was picking a fight, and determine whether she should intervene or quietly leave, it was usually to intervene. She is comfortable around strong personalities and rarely frightens easily, even when faced with intimidating classmates or magical objects that would make other students nervous.

At the same time, Xio is not completely fearless. Her confidence can disappear when she feels that she is being compared to her siblings. Kael is intellectually brilliant, Lyra is socially powerful, Zev is athletic and daring, Vesper is emotionally dependable, Jax is practical and secretive, Nyx is academically exceptional, and Ren is determined and competitive. Xio admires each of them and what they offer for the family, but their accomplishments can make her feel as though she has to work twice as hard to be noticed. She does not want to be known only as the Arcana family’s youngest child. She wants people to recognize her for her own abilities, decisions, and character.

But one of her greatest strengths is her adaptability. Moving from Hawaii to England at such a young age forced her to adjust to a different climate, culture, magical community, and school system. She had to become comfortable with unfamiliar customs while still finding her role in her life. This experience made her open-minded and capable of finding common ground with people from very different backgrounds or ideals. However, it also left her sensitive to feeling like an outsider. At Hogwarts, she sometimes feels caught between worlds: too 'American' to relate with her classmates, but too close to 'Britain' to get the pass of "not from around here".

Xio dislikes being underestimated more than almost anything. She especially dislikes being dismissed as young, sheltered, or incapable simply because she is the youngest Arcana. She also resents being overprotected, even though she understands that her siblings’ concern and sometimes overbearingness comes from love. Kael may treat her like a student, Lyra like a political liability, Zev like a junior teammate, and Jax like someone who needs constant supervision. Xio appreciates their support, but she sometimes wishes they would trust her to handle situations without immediately stepping in or thinking that they know best for her.

She also dislikes rigid expectations, pointless rules (which most rules were pointless to her), condescending authority figures, and people who assume that quietness means weakness. Xio can be forgiving, but she has little to none tolerance for cruelty disguised as discipline. She dislikes bullies, unfairness, and people who use their social status to make others feel small. She struggles to keep her emotions from overriding her "do not embarrass the family name" worries and sometimes can cause her to act out without realizing the true consequences.

Xio enjoys enchanted objects, especially items with unusual histories or personalities. Because her parents work with magical artifacts, she grew up surrounded by objects that could talk, move, remember, or misbehave. She is fascinated by the stories behind them and likes imagining who created them and why. Unlike Jasper, who tends to analyze an object’s construction, and Gretchen, who focuses on experimentation and possibility, Xio is often interested in the emotional connection between an object and its owner.

She also enjoys practical spellwork, magical theory, and anything that allows her to combine creativity with quick thinking. She is not necessarily the most technically advanced student in every subject, but she is resourceful and can pick up on the gist of the spell with enough practice. Xio often approaches problems from unexpected angles and is good at improvising when a carefully planned spell does not work. She especially enjoys Charms and any lesson involving magical objects, though she may become frustrated with subjects that reward memorization more than understanding and practical use.

Her interests also include exploring the castle, learning about different magical cultures, collecting small trinkets, and finding things that completely confound her. She enjoys friendly competition, though she is less interested in winning for its own sake than in proving that she can keep up with people who underestimate her. Her dueling practice with Ren has helped her improve her reflexes, while Zev has encouraged her adventurous side—sometimes with disastrous results.

Xio’s relationships with her siblings strongly influence how she behaves. With Vesper, she allows herself to be vulnerable. With Ren, she becomes competitive and playful. Zev brings out her impulsive side, while Nyx encourages her to think about magic in unfamiliar ways. Jax teaches her caution, Lyra teaches her social awareness, and Kael pushes her toward greater discipline. These relationships can be frustrating, but they also give Xio a wide range of perspectives.

Ultimately, Xio is motivated by independence, belonging, and the desire to define herself. She wants to become skilled enough that her siblings stop treating her like a child, but she does not want to lose the closeness they share. Xio’s story is about growing beyond the role her family has given her without rejecting the people who helped shape her. She is warm but stubborn, curious but cautious, brave but still capable of fear. Her greatest journey will be learning that she does not have to imitate any of her siblings to earn her place. She only has to discover what kind of witch she wants to become.
First Instance of Magic: (WC-230)
Reducio
Unlike her other siblings who presented magic around their 7-8 years old range back in Hawaii, Xio experienced her first magic at the age of 5 in Scotland. It happened when she was bored playing by herself, everyone else in the house was busy doing their own thing, so to preoccupy her time she decided to take out some building blocks and see how big of a town she could make. She was making good progress when a tower was just too tall for her to reach when all of a sudden she was able to levitate a play block to be placed as the final piece of the tower. It so happened at her mother was walking by the room and exclaimed in excitement about the sight she just witnessed, it quickly grabbed the rest of the family's attention and they eagerly gathered around Xio in excitement and pride. It was once, but no less the biggest news for the Arcana family that year and they couldn't wait to brag to the neighbors and extended family. It was at this moment that her parents claimed that Xio would become a "prodigy" amongst her siblings but those overbearing, although initially with well intentions, pressures causes Xio to rebel and only want to use her magic that will make her happy and not for "becoming the best" per her family's expectations.

  • Please copy & paste this new backstory into your encyclopedia somewhere! I cannot find it, and it needs to be in there word for word.
  • In Xio’s First Instance of Magic, it is implied that she continues to use magic afterwards, and has multiple instances of magic. To be clear, it is expected that following her first instance, she is not to use magic until at Hogwarts. Please make it clear that Xio does not use magic at home otherwise.
  • Where does Xio’s First Instance of Magic take place? It sounds as though it happens in Hawaii, which goes against our lore—be sure that it occurs in England, Scotland or Wales, so that it makes sense for her to go to Hogwarts.

The Rubio family are competent and competitive Muggle-borns of high intelligence and charisma. It is common for a Rubio to achieve great things, especially since each Rubio has their own passion and talents they pursue with ambition and dedication. The downside is that most of the Rubio family are detached emotionally. Unfortunately, Mercedes isn’t naturally talented or skillful compared to his family members. In fact, many of his family found him undervalued or disappointing even if they never intended to hurt him.

Mercedes’ older brother, Matthias Rubio, is another intelligent young man who had successfully run a business for inventions and products at the age of 16. Seeing how well his brother is doing and how far behind he is, Mercedes became even more dedicated to his own dream of becoming an engineer and surpassing Matthias’ intelligence. He began to grow ambitious and critical, taking school seriously to score perfect grades as well as maintaining an honorable reputation as a young engineer. As time flew, so did his energy, he couldn't keep up with the academic pressure and began slacking off. Derailing from his usual competitive and intelligent self into a lazy, tired boy. His parents expressed disapproval of his behavior, confirming that it is behavior like this that disrespects the family image. Mercedes, who was at his lowest, grew agitated and angry at his lack of knowledge and skills compared to his family. His bitterness grew as his insecurity followed.

One day, his First Instance of Magic occurred, with only him and Matthias witnessing it. A year later, on his 11th birthday, at midnight on Halloween, a weird-looking professor knocked on his door with a letter that held the invitation to study at Hogwarts. His parents as well as Matthias, listened closely to the professor’s explanation. As his parents grew joyful at the news, Matthias could only stand in silence along with Mercedes, who was seething with rage. He didn't want this, he had a dream to chase already, yet his parents insisted that this was the great gift that he needed to pursue, like a prophecy worth fulfilling. After days of being unwilling to listen to his passion, Mercedes accepted the invitation in defeat before starting his journey as a wizard.

On weekends, Mercedes spent his entire day working on a custom-made music box that plays at a certain time. His exhaustion didn't help that his music box wasn't working as intended. He checked the grandfather clock occasionally before tinkering with the music box once more. Coincidentally, Matthias came in with a cocky grin, ready to tease his little brother and his weird projects. The older brother wasn't trying to hold back his arrogance, deliberately joking and messing with Mercedes. Once he hit his limit with Matthias’ teasing, the music box he was holding began to chime, faster and faster until it eventually shattered. Both Mercedes and Matthias went silent, both unsure of what happened.

Maya Maxwell is a half-blood with a wizard father (Daniel Maxwell) and muggle mom (Amelia Maxwell).
His father is the friendly yet serious type. He knows when to take things seriously and when to have fun. Social and smart, he knows how to take things to his advantage. He is also a very active person and works in the Ministry of Magic, he's very well-respected and was sorted into Ravenclaw during his time at Hogwarts, proving his social and academic intelligence.

Maya's mother on the other hand is a very compassionate and kind woman. She loves and accept her family who all has magical abilities while she is a muggle. Maya wonders if she ever gets jealous about it, if she does, she hides it well. But sometimes Maya notices her mother having some envious look in her eyes whenever her husband performs magic at their house. She doesn't seem to look jealous when it comes to her children though, at least to Maya's knowledge and observation.

Speaking of Amelia's children, Maya also has an older witch sister (Ava Maxwell) who already gradutated as soon as Maya started Hogwarts. Ava is like a complete combination of Amelia and Daniel Maxwell, she's kind and compassionate like her mom and smart and social like her father. Mostly like her father due to her magical abilities and being sorted into the same house like him while she was studying at Hogwarts.

She usually gets along with her family pretty well. Growing up in a moderately witchy home with spells she always sensed she'd be a witch like her father and sister. She wants to make her family and herself proud by her achievements. Maya has big dreams and goals in her mind, including the dream of being a professional Quidditch player where she can show glory, and also being a very succesful student and witch, showing what she's capable of. Ultimately, her drive to success and glory caused Maya to be sorted into the Slytherin house, which made her family a bit surprised but she is happy being different.

Maya was 6 years old when she had her first instance of magic. Since she was born in a home with magic around during many times in her life, she wasn't so surprised but happy and excited. A few weeks before she started her (non-magical) school she randomly woke up with a ginger hair, meanwhile she was naturally a brunette! Her sister had noticed that and said it was a cool first instance of magic and hugged Maya. Maya liked having ginger hair but at the end of the day it was brown again.

A shared telescope under a lunar eclipse led to deeper conversation. That conversation led to a date, that date to marriage, and then, to Saturnalia.

It was a cold December day, and under the last light of the Geminid meteor shower, Saturnalia was born. Named after the day she was born, her parents aimed to raise her (and her younger brother, born around two years after) in a world full of academics and curiosity.

Crius Sutton and Asteria Smith shared a deep, introspective curiosity that eventually evolved into a relationship. It didn't matter that she came from a wizarding family and he was a muggle. However, their endless curiosity about the universe, while it led to great conversation, did not make for a strong, steadfast relationship. They were great at discussing astronomical theories, but not at discussing their feelings. Feelings became another problem to be solved.

One day, they decided to change it. Instead of letting every emotion simmer beneath the surface, they brought it up, and it exploded like a supernova. Years of quiet resentment, suddenly pelting at each other, full throttle. The moment they were vulnerable with each other and started saying what they truly felt, everything fell apart- at least in Saturnalia’s eyes.

They quietly divorced when she was eight. Everything about her life from that point on became methodical and scientific. The schedule from which she rotated from one place to another, the meals she ate, even the books she was allowed- and expected- to read. The schedule was never broken. The rules were clear. Knowledge was rewarded. From the divorce, she learned that emotions were unstable- they were a red supergiant, moments away from collapsing into a black hole. She couldn’t trust them, and couldn’t show them to anyone. Structure was safe. Outside of that, and Saturnalia didn't know what to do with herself.

Even with her parents living separately, Saturnalia's exposure to magic was limited. Her mother still worked at a muggle university, and to keep communication with her father, she had to limit her magic usage- but she never let her children see what little she did use. The day Saturnalia got her Hogwarts letter in the mail, things started to change, and they started learning small things about the world they had been born into, but never told about.

First Instance of Magic:
Reducio
Saturnalia’s magic first started exhibiting itself when she was seven years old. It was still early in the morning, the sun not yet over the horizon on the morning of April 6.

“Saturnalia,” her mother whispered softly, gently waking her up. “Come quick, there’s something I think you should see.”

Ever obedient, Saturnalia slipped out of bed, bare feet quietly padding across the floor. Her brother Jupiter was already in the hall, wrapped in a blanket and stifling a yawn. Asteria slipped a shawl over her daughter’s shoulders so she wouldn’t get too cold in her nightgown. Saturnalia was still rubbing the sleep out of her eyes as her mother led them outside and to the telescope that was seemingly permanently situated on the deck outside their cottage on the outskirts of the town.

“Come see, come see,” she encouraged, eagerly leading them by their little hands. She helped each of them climb onto the little tree stump stool before pointing upwards. “Look right there. Do you see that?” In the sky, faintly, Saturnalia could make out a triangle- the moon, Saturn, and Jupiter. She let out a gasp at the sight.

“Look at that. My two little babies, up in the night sky together.”

“Would you like to look at it through the big telescope?” Her father asked, coming from seemingly nowhere. All thoughts of sleep were gone from Saturnalia’s mind, replaced with unbridled joy and pure excitement. She nodded excitedly, and Crius scooped her up into his arms so she could see through the telescope.

Her mouth hung open in true childlike wonderment and awe. She squealed a little, her legs kicking slightly in the air. She loved looking up at the night sky, and seeing something as cool as this, with her family, in the middle of the night? She thought her heart might explode. Instead though, once she was back to her stool, a warmth spread under her fingertips, light pulling her attention back down to Earth. A small fire burned on the railing where her hands had been only moments prior, bright and intense and blue. She quickly stepped back, the flames disappearing as quickly as they came. When she cautiously inspected the railing, though, she found no scorch marks or any sign that a fire, burning hot and bright, had ever been there. Saturnalia thought nothing more of it, but her parents exchanged a knowing glance.

Her first instance of magic was born out of a love for knowledge and the beauty of creation, and is what fills her desires and inspires her craft as she learns and grows at Hogwarts.
