And the race was on. Typically Ale would have gone to full speed of course. He loved full speed, that was what racing made it so thrilling for him. But it was Chuki who was way faster and quickly shot forward. Ale looked around and seeing the Ilvermorny boy having trouble with his broom, he decided to take this to their advantage and, of course gently, kicked the other student off her broom. Maybe he was infected by the fighting spirit of Chuki, maybe he did not want to bring shame to his team and school and thus took this move instead of just flying ahead as well. He saw that Chuki had no problem getting past the first obstacles at all and got a nice head start, while the rest of the racers, including himself, stayed at the starting line.

The teenager stayed silent in the face of Chuki’s comments, choosing not to give her a reaction. To be frank, this was rather difficult for her, as she still bounced on her toes, clearly very excited. The second Cursa mentioned Chuki’s looks, Devon snorted, and rolled her eyes. She resisted the urge to punch him. Honestly, it wasn’t like she could blame him for such comments. She was well aware of how attractive everyone was, but she wasn’t the type to mention it so openly. Those types of thoughts were intended for her journal.
At the sound of the match starting, Devon kicked off from the ground and soared in the air. She quickly closed her eyes and sighed in relief. She enjoyed flying … even if her initial exposure to it was quite terrible (and frankly, she never forgot about falling during flying class in the years since it happened).
By the time she opened her green eyes to speed off in the direction of Chuki, Devon yelped in surprise when Chuki’s teammate, Alemayehu, blatched her. She wobbled and fell from her broom. She lay on the ground for a moment, upset with herself.

Alemayehu was still blaching, this time his target appeared to be Cursa. To his credit, the American seemed to have gotten his head back in the race, firing a spell Chuki's way. "ACCIO BROOOOOOM!" Cursa called out excitedly, jabbing his wand towards Chuki. Let her join Dev down on the ground, and chasing after her broom while his partner gets herself back in the air. Cursa set his jaw and narrowed his eyes as the magic zipped out of the end of his wand! A perfect cast! And now for some zoomage!
THUMMMMP!!!
"YOIKS!" Cursa blurted as he found himself spinning bristles of shaft and out of control! He tried shifting his body to regain balance, but it was no good! He caught sight of Chuki as he spun around --- at the very last second, she nudged her broom and he watched as the magic zipped past the Ouagdou flier with inches to spare! Cursa had to focus on his own broom, but that was no good either! He took a tumble and joined Dev on the ground instead!
Fortunately, she was already back on broom as he made his rather less than graceful landing! Shit. Well, there was nothing for it as caught sight of the culprit. "Bekele!" He grunted. He shook his head. It did no good to dwell on what was now done. He'd just have to follow after Devon and get back on his own broom!
"GOOOOOO DEEEEV! There's still a race to win!" he called over to his team mate.

Alemayehu saw Chuki getting further and decided again for a blatch to get the other Ilvermorny student off his broom. Of course, the one he blatched before got back on her broom but in whole it gave them some headstart to the race. His blatch did not prevent the other student of casting his spell at Chuki but luckily without success. Chuki was then also past the Giant Squid and much ahead of them all.

Finally. The giant menace of the track lurks before Chuki. She gripped her broom, "Fight me, you giant slug!" Just as she pushed through, something other than tentacles grabbed her broom. She looked down, confused. She gave an angry frown and simply tugged her broom back. Aye, a thief among racers it seems! Thieves get their hands whipped at home.
It appears the thief did not end up doing as they planned; instead, Chuki somehow barely got through the squid's tentacles as they reached out for her at the same time. She gave an obscene gesture behind her, recalling the usage of a middle finger being considered offensive in American contexts. Perhaps Chuki was enjoying this far too much? With a turn of her head, she turned her focus back to the race.

A small smile crossed Devon’s lips as her fingers closed around her broom’s handle. She had to get back in the air to start flying again, to do her best to give them a chance at winning. At least, that was her goal. First things first, however… she mounted her broom and soared into the air again. But, just as she did so, Alemayehu blatched Cursa. She winced as her teammate was thrown to the ground. It was never fun to endure.
Dev turned her eyes toward where Chuki was flying, her options rolling through her mind like flipping through a Rolodex.
