The Alumni Club was not something that Kitty had been interested in for the majority of her time at Hogwarts. She'd heard of it, here and there, and she appreciated the idea — but, sure that it was only for alumni of Hogwarts itself, she hadn't really decided to try and look into what was going on. With Summer Camp coming up, however, the club seemingly roared to life with a game of Quidditch organized by the flying professor. Now, while sitting around and talking about school memories wasn't necessarily Kitty's speed, Quidditch absolutely was, and, considering that two of her friends were on opposite teams, she would have been remiss not to get involved.

She wasn't on a broom, tragically. Perhaps next year, she would join, relive her own glory days up on a broom — but no, with Kitty's summer plans getting in the way of any meaningful practice, and her lack of confidence on a broom these days, she figured she could help in a different way. Honestly, no matter what she was doing, she was having fun: it certainly wasn't the norm to have a bunch of non-faculty adults around on school grounds, so getting to see Cyrus and Arek around was already a benefit. Less of a benefit was Santiago, but it's not like she was required to speak to him.

There were better things to focus on — though they hadn't spoken much before, Ruckus was also turning out to be exactly the kind of chaotic force that Kitty loved to work alongside. To make herself useful, Kitty took charge of organizing the stands: turning them into an impromptu picnic, with blankets and fresh food laid out for anyone that wished to watch the game.

Despite the morning hour, the sun was already out in full force, making for a heated and humid day out in the stands. Most of the benches were covered in the most classic of designs, red and white gingham, but she had taken care to get a few more options available. If, despite the harsh sun beaming down upon them, anyone felt too cold and not cozy enough, the ends of each bench had a little basket with some blankets and pillows available to grab. Kitty herself was currently in the process of ensuring the opposite — the spectators that were too hot — was taken care of, helping distribute drinks and snacks. This was the kind of day that just called for popsicles, after all.

Ruckus' voice carried out over the field, welcoming the players and the spectators alike to the second annual alumni sports event. As the players paddled out onto the field, Kitty cheered for both teams with equal enthusiasm, squinting slightly in the blinding sun to try and make out the players. It was shaping up to be a truly exciting game of Quidditch.

𝕷oudly, Professor Weems extended his welcome to all the players and spectators of the Alumni Quidditch Game. Cheers and claps resonated in response, and cross-talk blended into the mix, amplifying the chaos. Robin just got here a few minutes ago, but his neck is already covered with a sticky layer of sweat. He tied his hair up before even stepping foot near the stands, and that was a good decision. He likes a longer hair style, but sometimes it gets aggravating and uncomfortable. Still, he cannot imagine himself without the shoulder-length locks and would likely not shave his head ever.

If any one of his closer acquaintances saw him here, they might be surprised and unsettled. Why is he watching a Quidditch game? Robin doesn't hate it, but he doesn't like it either. Sports in general aren't his thing, except for dueling, which he is positively interested in and participates in matches himself.

The reason he came here was essentially built on a misunderstanding. A couple months ago back in the Spring semester of his first year, Robin attended a career fair towards the end of June. There, he met a professional duelist who gave him some strategic advice on the topic—Bridget Collins, her name was—and became a casual fan ever since. Casual meaning he watched like one or two of her matches, but that's it. When Robin read the camp schedule, he saw her name on something's team roster, but for some idiot reason did not register the title of the game. Alumni. Sure, she was from Hogwarts. Quidditch. Sure, she—why is Ms. Bridget Collins in a Quidditch game?

He only realized his mistake when he saw the shape of the stadium. He hadn't been to any professional dueling matches, but whatever the case, there wouldn't be any need for golden rings on a stick, right? Robin sighed and proceeded to turn around, but the overflowing crowd pushed him inward, and he does not have the mental capacity to say "excuse me" a thousand times while inconveniently squeezing through the traffic. Well, Quidditch it is. As he took a seat, he noticed Professor Townsend handing out iced drinks and snacks among the chaos. Another sigh, this time a relieved one, escaped his mouth.

Now gripping a light blue popsicle of unknown flavor, Robin blankly stared at the players getting ready for their game. His other hand rests on his lap, loosely hugging his own water bottle that he brings almost anywhere, especially to any large event that would likely take more than an hour. If it was dueling he might not have had time to drink, since he'd be too focused on the match, but now he can take a sip every ten seconds and still not feel like he missed out on anything.

As the players stopped socializing and focused on their brooms, Robin realized that the game was about to start. He stretched his legs a little and licked the popsicle that's already starting to melt. His mother was on Hufflepuff's Quidditch team back in her day, and she's still a big fan of the sport now. Maybe Robin would come to like it and start chatting with her about English and Scottish teams?

. . . Naw, unlikely.

For a while Diana had been looking forward to today. Of course Quidditch had been something that she knew about. She had read about it in books and heard people talking about the matches but there was a difference between reading about something and actually watching it. Especially when she was considering joining the sport. When her second year starts Diana is going to hopefully watch the Broom Racing and Dueling matches as she's interested in those sports as well. If she was going to make the decision of joining a sport, whether it's Quidditch, Broom Racing, or Dueling, she should at least see how the sport is played out before deciding. Of course she also wanted to understand what she'd be getting herself into before she joins that sport. So when the opportunity came to actually watch an actual Quidditch match during the summer camp Diana had been fairly certain she wanted to go.

The moment she reached the stands she was glad she had decided to come. The heat was immediately noticeable. The air felt humid and heavy and Diana instinctively looked for somewhere that offered at least a little shade before she settled into a seat. The picnic spread throughout the stands caught her attention next. Blankets and pillows and drinks and snacks and even popsicles had been arranged for the spectators which made the entire place feel more like a summer gathering then something connected to a sporting event. Before taking her seat she picked up a cold drink and was quietly grateful for it before she turned her attention toward the pitch.

The players were already preparing and Diana watched carefully. She found herself trying to identify each position as they moved around the pitch. The Keepers were the easiest to understand from what she'd learned. However seeing one actually prepare to defend the hoops made the role seem much more complicated than it sounded in the book. Next her attention shifted toward the Chasers and she watched how they moved through the air and how quickly they would need to react to one another. That was probably the part that interested her the most. There was something fascinating about how much coordination the game required. A player couldn't simply concentrate on what was directly in front of them. That player had to pay attention to their teammates and to their opponents and to the Quaffle and to the Bludger and to everything else that was happening around them at the same time. Diana then found herself wondering whether she would be able to keep track of all of it. Her eyes followed one of the players as they moved across the pitch and she slightly tilted her head as she studied their movements. "That looks much faster in person." She had expected that of course, but knowing it and actually seeing it were two different things.

Next her attention moved to the Beater. She watched the bat carefully and tried to understand how they anticipated the Bludger would go and how quickly they needed to react. Then there were Seekers. If she were on Ravenclaw's team she'd be a Seeker. It was the perfect position for her. Diana couldn't help but watch them with particular interest. The Golden Snitch was small enough that she could barely imagine trying to find it while flying at those speeds.

She took another sip of her drink. Maybe she should start with something simpler. That thought made her faintly smile. Still the more that Diana watched the more she became certain that she wanted to try. She had a feeling that being a Seeker would be good for her but she'd always consider the other positions. There were still too many things that she needed to learn and she suspected that reading about Quidditch could only teach her so much. Actually getting on a broom and learning how the game felt would probably answer some of those questions. For now though she was content to watch.

She leaned forward slightly and rested her arms against the edge of the stand as her eyes followed the players around the pitch. Every so often she found herself mentally noting something interesting. Whether it be the way a player positioned themselves or how quickly someone reacted to a moment nearby or even how the different positions seemed to work together. There was a lot to learn but Diana has always loved learning. So she simply watched for a moment and quietly absorbed as much as she possibly could in her 12 year old brain. Maybe someday soon she'll be down there too hoping to make her house proud by winning a Quidditch match.

Rain didn’t know whether to be nervous or excited to watch his first ever Quidditch match. His mother wasn’t big on sports and his father was much more of a duellist. Rain wasn’t particularly predisposed to liking broom sports. I would much rather be riding a Hippogriff or Abraxan than a broom. Despite this he had decided that he would be attending the Alumni game. He was making his way down to the Quidditch Stadium and hoped he would be getting a good spot. That’s where more of the nervousness was coming from. Rain knew that a lot of people would probably be coming and he really didn’t do well with crowds. Just the thought made his stomach tie up in knots and made him queasy. However, this camp was supposed to be helping him get out of his shell and so he would do this. Rain had already done so much so far so he hoped this wouldn’t be much worse.

As he was lost in thought as he walked Rain made it to the stadium in what seemed like no time. It was huge. Rain made his way to the stands looking around in awe at the stands and the decorations that were there. Rain found an empty spot at the end of one of the stands, he saw there were some blankets near where he was sitting. For once it actually wasn’t so chilly so he didn’t feel the need to grab one. In fact it was actually quite warm. Good thing I didn’t wear my cloak. Rain had been a few minutes early but by the time he had gotten settled down in his seat the announcer flew out to begin the introduction of the game. Then the players came out and they all looked so cool. Rain didn’t know any of them but hearing other people cheering decided that he might as well do so too. It was so fascinating to see the adult players interacting. Rain could see them talking but he couldn’t make out what they were saying since they were so far away.

Waiting for the game to start Rain noticed he was actually a bit peckish. He hadn’t eaten breakfast when he woke up. Just gotten ready to come watch the game so he figured now would be a good time to get a snack while he waited for the game to start. Rain got a few fixings, a drink, and made sure to get a popsicle. It may not have been as hot as it gets at his father’s family home but it was definitely hot enough to justify a popsicle. Now he was just waiting with everyone else for the game to officially start.

When it came to trying something new Latoya never really needed much convincing. An alumni Quidditch game during summer camp with students and even former students from different schools all gathered together to watch? Add a picnic in the stands and she was even more than happy to attend.

Latoya could already feel the excitement in the air the moment she arrived. Professor Weems's voice carried across the stands as he welcomed everyone to the game and the cheers that followed made her smile. She paused for a moment in order to take everything in and looked between the crowded stands and the Quidditch Pitch below. There was something rather special about seeing so many people gathered together for the same event. Students from other schools who might otherwise have never met were sitting alongside one another while the alumni had returned to Hogwarts to take part in a sport they had once played as students. It made the whole thing nostalgic even though Latoya had never been apart of Hogwarts herself. Latoya also wished that her older brother Jone and her twin brother Mika could be there too but she was the one in her family who got the two gifts not her brother's. But she knew she'd tell them all about it either when she got home or she'll write to them!

Her attention soon drifted toward the picnic that had been arranged throughout the stands. The gingham blankets immediately caught her eye along with the pillows and baskets placed around the benches. There were plenty of snacks and cold drinks available which seemed particularly welcome considering how warm the day already was. Latoya picked up a drink and found herself smiling as she looked over everything that has been prepared for today. Someone had clearly put a lot of thought into making sure everyone was comfortable.

She eventually found a spot where she could clearly see the pitch and sat down and taking a small sip of her drink before looking toward the players. She didn't know any of them and she certainly wasn't familiar with the sport because she doesn't know a thing about magic before coming to this camp but that didn't make the game any less interesting. If anything it simply gave her a reason to watch and learn.

Her eyes followed the players as they moved through the air and widened occasionally when one of them changed direction suddenly. She was surprised by the speed. Even from the stands it was easy to see how much concentration and coordination that the game required. Latoya found herself wondering what it must feel like to fly around the pitch like that. There was something beautiful about it. She had always loved being outdoors and although a Quidditch pitch wasn't exactly the sort of natural environment she normally found herself drawn to as she watched the players soar through the sky still made her appreciate the freedom of it. The bright summer sky stretched above them and for a moment she found herself wishing she could simply float up there and see everything from their perspective. And if that ever did happen hopefully she wouldn't find out she was afraid of heights even though she's been cliff diving before.

Her attention was pulled back to the game thanks to a cheer from the crowd. Latoya laughed softly before deciding to join in even though she wasn't entirely sure what had happened. She glanced around at the other spectators and was amused by how invested they seemed to be. Some were watching the match with intense concentration while others were talking amongst themselves or enjoying the food that had been laid out. It was a nice mixture of relaxation and excitement. She reached for one of the snacks before settling back into her seat. This was exactly the sort of thing she liked about summer camp especially this one. There were always opportunities for her to experience something that she hadn't expected. One day could involve learning something new while another could could lead to an unexpected adventure and sometimes it could simply mean sitting in the sunshine and watching a sport she didn't know anything about.

Latoya looked back toward the pitch. She found herself especially interested in the way the different positions worked together. The players all had different responsibilities yet the game wouldn't work without each of them doing their part. Even though she didn't understand every decision being made she could definitely appreciate the teamwork behind it. Perhaps that was what made the game so enjoyable to watch. It wasn't just about one person it was everyone working together. Another cheer erupted from the stands and Latoya smiled as she watched the game begin. She took another sip of her drink and felt the warmth of the sun against her skin while the occasional breeze offered a little relief from the humidity even though she was used to it as she comes from Fiji.

She didn't know whether Quidditch would ever become one of her favorite sports especially with all the other sports out there but she was glad she'd decided to come. There was something lovely about experiencing it alongside everyone else. The noise of the crowd, the excitement on the pitch, the picnic spread across the stands, and even the unusual sight of alumni returning to the place where they were once students or possibly not students of as the alumni were from all sorts of schools and not only Hogwarts.

As she looked around the stands again Latoya noticed another student sitting toward the end of one of the benches. He seemed to be watching the game as well with a popsicle in hand. She hesitated for only a moment. Latoya didn't want to intrude if he preferred to be alone but there was something friendly about the atmosphere around the stands. Everyone was here to enjoy the same event and she figured there was no harm in saying hello. Picking up her own popsicle she walked over and stopped a comfortable distance away. "Hi," she said with a warm smile as she gestured toward the empty space nearby. "Do you mind if I sit here?" She waited for his answer before taking the seat. Latoya glanced across the pitch again then down at her popsicle with a small laugh. "It's definitely a good day for one of these." She looked back toward him as curiosity brightened her expression. "Have you watched Quidditch before?" There was no expectation in her voice. After all she didn't know anything about the sport. If anything she was curious to know whether someone else was experiencing it for the first time. Whatever his answer Latoya was happy to settle in and continue watching the game.

Elara had seen the Quidditch game on the summer camp schedule a few days earlier. She knew what Quidditch was. There were plenty of books about it. Watching a match was different. She had never done that before. By the time she reached the stands, there were already people looking for places to sit. Elara slowed down and glanced along the benches until she found an empty space near the side. That would do. She sat down.

The benches looked different from what she had expected. Blankets had been spread over some of them, and pillows were piled at the ends. There were baskets nearby too. Elara leaned closer to look inside one. Snacks. Another basket had drinks. The next one had popsicles. She picked up a bottle of water. Then she took a popsicle. The sun was already making the air feel warm, so she opened it straight away. The first bite was cold enough to make her pause. Her attention moved to the pitch while she ate.

The players had not started yet. She watched the players from the stands, trying to match their faces with the names she had seen earlier. None of them looked familiar. That apparently had not helped very much. Maybe I should have written them down. No, that would probably have looked strange. A loud voice came from somewhere above the stands. Elara looked up automatically, but she couldn't see much from where she was sitting. She listened to the welcome instead. People around her began clapping when it was over. She joined them.

Afterward, Elara took another bite of the popsicle. The stands were getting louder as more people arrived. She could hear people talking around her, but she didn't pay much attention to it. She turned her attention back to the pitch. The players were still getting ready. Elara watched them for a moment before looking down at her popsicle. It was starting to melt. Elara looked down just in time to see a drop land on her hand. “Oh no.” She quickly reached for a napkin and wiped it off. Then she checked her clothes. Nothing. Good. She continued eating, although more carefully this time. More people were arriving, and the stands were getting fuller. The noise around her grew louder too. Elara didn't mind it. There was enough space around her that she could still sit comfortably.

The sun was getting warmer. She moved her feet under the bench in front of her, hoping to avoid sitting directly in the sunlight. It helped a little. Her popsicle was nearly finished by then. She ate the last piece, wrapped the stick in the napkin, and put it aside. Elara took a sip of her water. The cold water felt nice. She looked toward the pitch again. The players were beginning to gather in their places. The game still hadn't started, but it seemed like they were almost ready. Elara sat up a little straighter. Okay, maybe the game will start now. She rested her hands on her knees and waited.
