It was another boring, boring gathering he would be going to, Derek thought as he idly sipped his icy Ribena. It was refreshing, especially after the unappetizing meal he had at the Muggle motel he had stayed in the day before. He had argued to stay in the Leaky Cauldron, or at least a Muggle establishment with more than a 0.5 star rating, and much less cockroaches.
Derek looked out the window, unaware of the fight Emily and Jade were having, the ruckus his brother was causing. The Knight Bus was a rather fast vehicle, and wasn’t exactly safe, but his brother could at least retain
some dignity by simply sitting properly and not fly all over the place.
Some time later, with many people “accidentally” cursing at his brother, they finally arrived at the space known as Dukes Meadows, a park with barely no shade and way too many flowers. Derek stepped off, his mind still wandering about. As he put on his headphones and started playing music, a stray frisbee smacked it, causing it to smash into the ground, reducing it to pieces.
”What the hell!” he shouted as he barely dodged the second one. There was his cousins, Avery and Alexa, snickering as they ran to the back of an ancient tree. He rolled his eyes, then strode to an empty chair and promptly sat down, sipping his Ribena and watching the flurry of motion all around him. Just then, he saw another family come down the lane. It was the Marlongs, who were very good friends with the Jays and Winmoors. But just then, Derek spotted a familiar face.
”Avis?! What are you doing here?!”
