She wasn’t born a perfectionist, she was messy and unruly like the wind, anywhere she went she left a gust of chaos behind her and she did not care, she did everything as she saw fit and not as was accepted by society. Everything she owned was decorated in her own way, imperfectly, drawn over or doodle about, she wasn’t good at drawing, but still she did it just to make the thing feel truly like hers. She wasn’t born a perfectionist, she was made one by the household that she grew up in.
It’s neither a good thing nor a bad thing, it’s just something that happens - we change. And that’s what our loved ones do, they change us. Locket changed too. Her parents were rather strict, they cared about her grades, and soon after starting elementary school she realised that being just good wouldn’t pass. She needed to excel and do her best. She always made fun of her sister when the older one would study, because in her mind she thought: how could someone who’s still a kid, waste their interesting days by doing boring adult things, when they can play with toys or go outside, or eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and watch cartoons? But when she started school she became what she made fun of before.
Her evening would be spent at her desk, hovered over papers or books. She didn’t necessarily even have much homework, it was just that pressure put on her to make her parents proud. They both were hard-working people and they expected their daughter to be so too. And just about when Locket realised that minimum effort wouldn’t cut it, she became a perfectionist.
It started off with little things, like lining up her clothes in the closet just right, or waking up the exact hour she had to instead of snoozing a few minutes more. And then it furthered. She started doing more than she had to, she did extra work, not because she wanted to, no. She was just a kid, all she wanted to do was climb trees and pet stray cats. No, she did it because she felt like she needed to, like her parents who worked so hard to give her everything she had were always watching over her and expecting her to do her best.
Still, even with this perfectionism that surrounded all things to do with school work, she still kept that little sparkle of childhood wonder in herself. She got perfect grades, but she also kept those same notebooks decorated with stickers and doodles. Like all things in her life, she made perfectionism her own safe place.

Jacqueline Royale has been that quiet, introverted girl her entire life. She is calm, somewhat stubborn and ambitious and her calmness has always been a noticeable feautre of hers. Since she was a little kid, unlike many others, sh was never interested in playing with dolls and makeup, she never imagined herslef a princess and she never was scared of what was too unsettling for others. Wheter it be snakes, scorpions. spiders or any other bugs she had always been drawn to them and always found comfort in their presence and company. And it has always been her unique trait to treat these creatures wuth kindness, rather than the cruelty and hatred that they are mainly faced with. And they have always been friends to her, and never enemies or something to avoid.
Let's go back to the begginig of this ability that she possess. When she was a little child, she loved nature and animals, what she hated most were zoos, because to her, that meant caging and chaining animals that should be out there in Mother Nature, thriving and living like they are meant to and on a few occasions, where she found herself at the zoo, gazing at the caged snakes, she would feel the utmost sadness seeing them being kept like property and it broke her heart knowing that they had no freedom. All that she understood when she was just a kid, even too young to comprehend much. Around the same time, which would be around 5-6 years old, she once went to her grandparent's private property in Southern California, which was surrounded mostly by nature. She was taking a walk there with her mother, Elizabeth, when she spotted a harmless Gopher Snake (which she then didn't know, and was later told by her grandfather and thus it developed and interest in studying about snake types as a hobby and therefore expanding her knowledge about these exotic and brilliant beings mentioned so many times as 'evil' or 'bad' creatures in the Holy Books of Abrahamic religions and mostly seen as a bad omen). Jacqueline didn't think of running or panicking about it, even when her mother stood in between the snake and her daughter all she said was "It's okay, mommy. I like snakes''. It lead to many other encounters like this. Over time she learned about snakes, how to treat them and what to do in each type's case. Only later it got obvious why she was so comofrtable with the idea of snakes, when at the age of 8 her mother, Ramona, witnessed Jacqueline communicating a snake, which she had begged her parents to get a few days ago. like many beg to get a puppy or a cat. Jacqueline had been sitting in her room with the still small Lampropeltis californiae on her bed, right opposite her. The sounds and the gibberish Jacqueline had been hissing were now an explanation to why she loved snakes so much.(and all that time, no one had noticed that she had been talking to snakes the whole time). It had been an ability of her for a long-long time and she had now only realised that she hadn't been speaking English the whole time, but in antother language that she hadn't even learn, instead it was hers from the very moment she was born. As to her mothers' question why she hadn't spoken about this, the still naive 8 year old answered that she had thought it was normal for wizards and witches to be able to do that.

Name of Ability that you Are Applying for: Occlumency
Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it):ReducioGalahad had been training his mind for many years to deal with what muggles would call, "enhanced interrogation techniques". These included Veritaserum, the Cruciatus and Imperius curses, and taking a good old fashioned beating. He had spent so much time as an Auror that there was simply no avoiding traninig for such things. At times you would have to blend in or simply pretend to be someone you were not to get in with people who, if they knew your true identity, would send you home air freight, in very small boxes.
The first time he had been exposed to the Imperius Curse had been an eye-opening experience to him. He'd always thought he was a pretty tough guy who could stand up under anything. He was absolutely powerless. It was merficul for him that his interrogator was a fellow Auror (his beloved Orion) and not a dark wizard who was really intent on getting information or hurting him.
He'd learned since then that it was all a matter of calm, preparation, and resolve. He started doing different mental exercises daily to control his breathing, his thoughts, his emotions; anything that could allow someone a beachead into his mind. The process was long and arduous, and it was painful too. While he wasn't being tortured, the amount of straight he put on himself was heavy. He'd been focusing so hard on keeping his mind locked down sometimes that he would get nose bleeds. On one occassion, he had literally passed out from the strain he was putting on himself.
As Orion and his other Auror colleagues worked with him, he learned that it was not so much the strain but the calm. When he started to experiment with mediation and finding his own zen state, he finally started to really improve. He was never fully accomplished at the skill when he was an Auror, and after he pulled the pin and retired from the office, he didn't feel the need to dwell on it any further, thinking his life of secrecy was over. At it was. But once he got back to the castle, he found his time outside of what he spent with Orion lacking. Being a student administration was not for him and so he returned the Occlumency as something to work towards and occupied his mind.
Orion had come to the rescue when he finally mastered it. Three nights a week after dinner, they would meet in Orion's office - they chose Orion's because it wasn't as busy as a Head of Houses Office and they needed privacy for this. It took five longs month but he finally succeeded to their mutual glee on one February evening. In the end, the calm was the most important thing. Struggle too much and the brain was like a wet sponge; it would eventually slip out of your hand.

Name of Ability that you Are Applying for: Calming Presence
Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it): 440/400ReducioFrom a young age, Vera knew she had a certain image to display. It wasn't just a matter of how she dressed, because that could easily be bought with the right money, materials, and jewels, which her family could afford. Her father was more than willing to drop a grand or two on his eldest daughter so long as it made her exactly as he wanted them to appear: elegant, refined, and simply beautiful. But, as the saying goes, nobody should ever judge a book by its cover.
Her nanny taught her everything about etiquette and polite body language. Never look too surprised, never laugh too loudly, never cross your arms lest you want to give them the impression that you're bored and unwilling to listen. Be gentle, but never be a pushover, but also never establish your boundaries too harshly that others will turn away from you. When there is conflict, know when to put your head down and know when to listen. For a young girl, these were tedious, complicated scales to constantly balance, but they certainly had their benefits. When her parents disagreed on things, she would look around the table to find her youngest brother and soothe his unease; he was always the more emotional one between them in these moments, and Vera was the only one who could calm him down despite the circumstances.
But perhaps where her calming presence shined the most was in the Duelling Club. Captain for fall and winter, and duellist from fall right through to spring, she was often the more experienced member among the teams of three they would be assigned to. She had won two of three, but they were not easy wins. Far from it. Even when a teammate froze, from stage fright or otherwise, Vera kept pushing. What good was a captain, a teammate, that gave up because of a singular wrong move? No, she wanted to give them reasons to keep going, to hope. She would call out simple encouragements, like "not bad", "nice!", and "at least it hit". Admittedly, she wasn't the chattiest duellist, but after a significant loss in winter, she thought perhaps talking to her team while on the piste would help extend an air of comradery and help overcome the stage fright that seemed to plague her team every season. She would like to think it worked, since they won when she started doing it, but it was only one time and she had won previously without all the talking. Perhaps another win is in order to see if there really is an advantage in pep-talking your teammates on the piste.

I did not become a Healing Sage at once. I think it started because I always found it hard to ignore someoe who is hurt. When I see someone in pain or in the need of help I do not like just standing there and do nothing. I always feel that I should try to help in some way or the othr.
When I was younger I did not always know what to do. Sometimes I felt worried or nervous that I might make things worse. Stil I tried to help in small ways. I stayed with the person instead of leaving them alone. I helped them sit down somewhere safe and comfortable.
If they needed someone older or more experienced I quickl went to find help. Sometimes, just staying beside them and talking camly helped them feel less scared.
Slowly, I became better at helping people.
I started paying more attention to those around me. I learned to notice when someone was hurt, tired or not feeling well. I also learned that I should listen before doing anything. I would ask what hapened and what they needed instead of thinnking I already knew the answer.
I also learned to stay calm. At first, when someone was hurt or upset, I would start worrying myself. But I understood that pannicking did not help anyone. So I began practising staying calm and thinking carefully. If I stayed calm the other person would feel safer too. I learned to speak gently and not rush them.
Helping people also taught me that small things matter the most. I could bring someone water, help them walk, stay beside them, or simply make sure they were not alone. These may sem like very small actions but they can make a person feel safer and more comfortable.
Yes, I had made mistakes. Sometime I tried too hard to help when I did not really know what to do. I learned that I cannot solve all problems by myself. Sometimes the best way to help is to find someon who knows more than I do. Learning when to ask for help has made me more responsible.
Now helping people has become a natural part of who I am. When someone is hurt, I do not simply walk away. I pay attention to them and try to understand what they need. I stay calm, listen carefully, and help in whatever safe way I can.
I believe this is why I am a Healing Sage. Every time I helped someone I learned something new. I learned to be calmer, kinder, more patient, and more careful. I am still learnig but I have become someone who wants to be there for others when they need help.
To me being a Healing Sage is not only about having healing magic. It is about caring for people and doing what I can to help them. That is something I have gradualy learned through my actions and it is now an important part of who I am.

One of the best things about the summer camp was that it gave muggle-borns, like Mirada, a chance to practice. Sure, even purebloods weren’t allowed to cast spells at home, but they could fly. If Mira had taken out her broom for a ride back at home, she could be accused of breaking the law.
So, she had to take advantage of the camp. Despite the busy schedule, there was still a lot of free time. So, she spent all of that time practicing. Mira was already good at flying, but she was going to be on the broom racing team. She had to be amazing.
So, each morning, or evening, she would take out her broom. After polishing it, she would mount it, and fly around the camp. It was peaceful.
The only problem was, it was in the United Kingdom, in Scotland. It didn’t follow the usual weather rules. So, although it was usually hot, it was often windy, sending her crashing into trees, giving her large bruises. So, after nearly finishing her bottle of bruise healing salve, she’d had enough. She had to learn to fly completely steadily, so she didn’t hurt herself in the wind, or when going fast.
Instead of trying to fight against the wind, for her next few practices, she tried to stay still. To just hover, gradually getting higher. After a few days of practice, she was able to hover in the middle of trees, and not get hurt at all. So, she then had to fly. She must’ve looked strange to anyone walking past, flying slowly in a straight line between two points, turning around, and coming back again. Then, she tried going fast, which was fine, until she turned round, got caught by a particularly strong gust of wind, and whacked into a cabin. Embarrassing. But, after doing so much work, she couldn’t just stop. So, after an awkward apology, she flew again.
And, by the end of the summer, she could fly against the wind. Although, not all the time.
She found that after a few close encounters with solid-looking objects, then her skills would work. But, she never had to brew another bruise healing potion that summer. But, she decided she definitely would have to once the broom racing season started.
The last day of the summer camp was the day she put it to the test. An obstacle course through the camp. She got round all of the cabins, through two trees, and carefully lowered herself to the ground, extremely proud of herself.

Fourth Year Ability
Link to your encyclopedia thread: Floo Powder!
Name of Ability that you Are Applying for: Advanced Casting
Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it): Axyen needed to take his magic to a new level, and that went beyond just being able to "hit harder", he actually needed to cast more efficiently. Magic's effectiveness wasn't just determined by how much your spells can pack a punch, but how you cast a spell was equally important (if not, more) as well. So, Axyen decided he was going to practice spell-casting and take it a higher level!
"Okay, time to revisit every single spell I know and practice...!" Axyen said to himself, and while he loved studying spells and the like, it wasn't quite as exciting when he realized that to master each of these spells individually, he would have to practice each wand movement one hundred times! Speak each incantation one hundred times! And finally, meditate for an hour every single day!
What Axyen considered to be reasonable since he was the Hufflepuff Dueling Captain! He has to set the example by being incredibly good at the sport itself, so he would begin to practice. Starting with the wand movements of each spell, and it was going wonderfully—
"My arm is going to fall off......" Axyen complained to himself in the Room of Requirement (he needed an isolated place to practice). "Why did I do this to myself? Whyyyyyyyyyy?!" Axyen's arms were basically asleep, and every wand motion just became half-hearted. As if to add a cherry on top, this was only spell one!
"Nope, no! This just will not work, I need to... INNOVATE!" Axyen smiled to himself enthusiastically. "I just need to master each spell efficiently, not destroy my arm..." Axyen decided that the new goal was to try and make sure he cast every single spell to its maximum capacity, that seemed considerable more realistic! My pride as a captain... relies on this to work! I need to feel that rush of a PERFECT CAST! Axyen smiled at that thought as he raised his wand arm and...
"Agh... my arm..." This was going to suck, but he needed to try his best anyways! That's what a duelist did, and that's what Axyen was going to do as well! "Flipendo!"
Wisdom Check: [d20: 19] + 9 = 28, success!
Axyen watched as the Flipendo flew into the wooden plank, sending it flying backwards. "Wow! That felt really good! However, I know what a perfect Flipendo feels like... and that's not quite it..." Axyen was ready to do this again and again.
It was actually going pretty good, aside from that moment when he sent himself flying into a wall; that was a moment he was glad NOBODY was around to witness—that would definitely be the end of his social life without a doubt. In terms of magic, Axyen had always been more magically inclined, which why he felt he was good at dueling—but he also worked hard to reach to that point. Talent and magic... always did go hand-in-hand beautifully...
"Incendio Duo!"
Wisdom Check: [D20: 20] + 9 = 29
Luck really seemed to be on Axyen's side today, because he was able to perform that spell perfectly and feel the rush of magic that he loved so much. The wooden plank that had been the practice dummy burned beautifully, and with a look of satisfaction, Axyen turned away. I did it... I am ready.
Fifth Year Ability
Link to your encyclopedia thread: Floo Powder!
Name of Ability that you Are Applying for: Evasive Maneuvers
Describe why this fits your character (not why you the player want it): Axyen lost a lot of duels, not that he ever wanted to admit it, but it showed on his win-to-loss ratio anyways. Axyen had one thing in common with every single time he lost... He kept getting hit! Obviously the solution wasn't to learn more spells, it was to stop letting the attacks hurt him! He needed some serious evasion training, and perhaps that would cure him of his tendency to apparently attract spells directly right at him.
He had gotten the idea over the summer, and now while he was at home, he needed a way to practice. That was just what he had to do as a passionate duelist, and so... he reluctantly went over to his annoying elder brother. "What's up, bro?" Jacob asked nonchalantly, and Axyen sighed.
"Ahem... I need YOU to try and hit me with a pillow..." Axyen didn't look too pleased as he said that, but this situation really called for it. Desperate times called for desperate measures, after all. "Really!?" Jacob was surprised, but as Axyen expected, he did seem excited to leap at the opportunity. "Okay, give me a moment."
Axyen tapped his foot impatiently, and then he heard footsteps. "Finally! What took you so—WAAAAAH! NO, STOP! WHY DO YOU HAVE A BROOM!?" Axyen narrowly ducked under the broom before he abruptly bolted in the opposite direction. "You said you wanted to practice, right!? On the stage, it's life or death!" Jacob maniacally laughed as Axyen continued to run away.
"You're crazy! Dueling is not that serious! IT'S NOT THAT SERIOUS! AAAAAAAAAAAAH!" Axyen screamed, and while his mom was off shouting something incoherent over his own screams, Axyen found that he was quite motivated to learn how to evade the broomstick. There were eventually moments where he found that he'd time his jumps, or smoothly slide around a corner and duck. It all turned into a combination of movements that became more and more like muscle memory. All from getting whacked a good few times which swiftly motivated him to NOT slow down.
"Man, that was fun," said a happy Jacob. "No! No it was not! I'm never training with you again!!!" Axyen would then retreat to his room, and plan other ways to get better at dodging attacks. No other training techniques or plans could compare to that though, and Axyen did indeed feel much more confident in being able to evade spells—after all, while he didn't efficiently train over the majority of the summer, Jacob made it a frustrating habit to occasionally chase Axyen around with a broomstick for the love of the game, and that was enough to keep Axyen on his feet.

Since coming to Hogwarts, Eleanor’s favourite core subject is Defence the Dark Arts as she finds that it is useful and she’s naturally drawn to protection magic. She prefers practical spells to theory based ones, as she enjoys the opportunity to actually practice the spells she reads about rather just learning them from a textbook. Even from a young age, Eleanor has been particularly interested in learning how witches and wizards can defend themselves and others when faced with danger.
Her interst in Defence Against the Dark Arts is closely connected to her ambition becoming an Auror as it would allow her protect others as well as following into her father’s footsteps. Isla was the 'perfect' child, well, her parents told her that when she wasn't being a mess, so she learnt that being perfect ment being the best, and she liked it.
She liked to practice every spell she knew until there wasn't a single flaw to them, same with potions, even if it was just during class, so she worked hard, every day, trying to excel at something to make her parents proud.
At some point, her need for perfection started to be reflected on her methamormagi abilities, she didn't want to shift, not if it was flawed, not if her emotions controlled them. Soon, her side of the dorm, was carefully structured, no dust nor a single place unorganized.
She learned to like things that way, her notes stopped being messy and she often got frustrated if things weren't perfect. She didn't notice she was turning like her mother: perfectionist and moody over the simplest mistakes.
She remembered one time during the winter when she was home, she snapped at her brother because the decoration he had done wasn't perfect, she then regetted it when she realized she had sounded like her mother.
Even though Isla's perfectionism was more focused on magic, on every spell that had to be perfect, on every wand movement, on the incantations. She wanted everything to be perfect.
Everything.
She knew mistakes were okay, she saw other students not minding them, but that wasn't Isla's nature: if something went wrong, she'd get frustrated and give up, or wouldn't sleep until she finally got it right.
It was just part of Isla's behavior, a behavior she inherited from her mother, a behavior she didn't like having but became part of her just as her need for approval.
Between classes, in the dorm, she'd practice, she'd stop paying attention to others and focused on her wand, on the movements. Until it felt like it had finally been perfect enough to make her parents proud.
It was the only way she had to make her parents proud, to have them look at her with pride. And just a glance of the littlest of approval could keep her happy.
She knew it was wrong, but she couldn't bring herself to stop. She snapped, she got frustrated. And she knew it was wrong. She knew she was supposed to live a normal life instead of being the controlling mini-angie she was becoming.
