Leonard would not describe himself as jealous. Much more, slighted. Annoyed, perpetually, by the peppy Gryffindor.

While he would consider himself above the pettiness of the old rivalry between the lions and snakes, this was personal. He’d dedicated his life to the study of being liked, and that was not enough. And yet, these people who engaged in utterly ridiculous acts (the least of which included laughing in a manner that a riot could only dream of matching volume, such horrendous offenses, indeed) were magnets. They seemed to draw in everybody, for one reason or another. And he'd try to match their level of charisma, doing everything that, in theory, would make him most likeable. According to science, math, and everything in between, it should've been impossible to fail.

Needless to say, he'd failed.

It was like the Titanic, he thought. There were several faults in this analogy, since he had not died, but it was correct in a figurative sense. His social life was more a social death, and whatever deity that had created him must've gotten wasted and pour in a pitcher of awkwardness, while these social types got none.

And so the only way to outdo them was to stick to what he was most best at, which wasn't much. Insults were one of his gifts, though he wasn't looking for a fight. Sadly, science and math were not required subjects, the closest to it being Potions. The best thing would be an old fashioned debate. Something like that of what happened in muggle school, except concerning Wizarding subjects and not whether or not uniforms were important in school.

"Hello," he said, approaching the girl, his back straight and his tone (hopefully) confident. "I believe we haven't met before. My name's Leonard. You up for a challenge?"

Tsuki whipped round, accidentally spilling some of the ingredients for her potions homework.
She hurriedly cleared them up from the floor and got up again, placing the crystal pots back onto the table.
"I don't think we have. I'm Tsuki. And what do you mean 'are you up for a challenge'? And I'm not really supposed to speak to Slytherins either.", noticing the colour of his robes.
A cat rubbed its head against her legs. She picked the small, black cat with beautiful amber eyes up and began to stroke it.
She turned back to her Potions homework, and holding the cat in with her left arm and a quill in her right, she noted something down.
Tsuki placed the quill down and grabbed her potions book, flicking through the pages. When she found the necessary instructions, she placed the book down and grabbed a pot of ground unicorn horn, tipping half the contents into the cauldron.
She pushed her hair out of her eyes and added some salamander blood to the cauldron, and mixed it anti clockwise for a few minutes, then added a few teaspoons of daisy root.
The cat jumped agilely on to the table, nocking her school bag onto the floor. Out poured out schoolbooks and parchment paper, along with a few spare quills and bottles of ink. Tsuki cursed under her breath.

It was almost laughable, that this was his competition. At first, she’d been intimidating, with a near army of companions. Now, she was nothing, really. Just a clumsy girl who probably couldn’t stand up without knocking something over. But he would finish what he started, just as he always did.

“Hello, then, Tsuki. Isn’t that Japanese? No matter. Ignoring your rude comment that heightens the prejudice against the best house of them all, mine, I mean just what I say when I ask if you’re up for a challenge,” he said, taking the the leather-bound book from her, which now had a bit of ink on it. “How about you give yourself a break from this homework. Must be tiring, yeah? We can have a contest, just the two of us. I’ll let you choose what you want it to be in, just nothing that’d break any rules. See who’s best.”

Though overconfidence was something he was most definitely against, he felt he’d earned it. The cat was tougher than her, he was fairly certain. And, she’d insulted his house, which meant if he needed backup, he could run up to anybody with the green tie and rally against her. Such fun.

"I am really not interested in anything Slytherins want. See you around." Tsuki replied sarcastically and collected her things. She flicked her wand to levitate the cauldron and walked out of the library, with the cauldron flying after her carefully.
The cat ran off in the other direction, disappearing out of sight.

"seriously... since when has a Slytherin actually wanted to talk to a Gryffindor? I have better things to do..." she thought as she turned round the corner on her way to the Gryffindor common room.
She faced the Fat lady and said the password, which was apparently today 'Mimbulus Mimbletonia'. The portrait swung open and she went inside.

Ruby Slashexer, her best friend in Gryffindor, was playing exploding snap with a few others on the carpet. Tsuki flicked her wand again to place the cauldron onto a table and threw her satchel onto an armchair, then joined in the game.

After a few rounds, she got up and walked into her dorm. Tsuki grabbed the book 'Quidditch through Ages' and began to read. An owl flew past her window, hooting loudly. The shouts from the exploding snap grew silent after some time. Tsuki sighed in satisfaction of the silence and carried on reading.

“Yeah, based on your tone, I’d say you were going for sarcasm,” he said, walking briskly to catch up, while being careful to not hit the cauldron. It was rather painful, he knew from experience. “That’s not really how it works. And, really, that’s quite rude, don’t you think? To judge someone based on house? Just because I’m Slytherin doesn’t mean I’m an omnicidal maniac bent on world domination.”

Granted, he had been called a maniac by several people, dating back to when he was five years old. And, yes, he had spent most of Physical Education doodling plots and ideas for chemical bombs after he inevitably got benched for his general lack of physical ability, but not all were bad. Frankly, he was offended by the prejudice. Yet another reason to finish the job. And, the girl had confidence, meaning it wouldn’t be a complete waste of time.

“All I’m asking is for a bit of your time. Just a few minutes, so we can play a game. Checkers, maybe? Or chess, but I've only got a muggle set. Hey, wait up!"

She went into the common room. Really, how rude could one get? First refusing a potentially fun challenge from a potential friend (though Leonard’s intentions had not been for either, she should’ve at least considered it, he thought), and then having the nerve to effectively slam a door in his face. No matter. He decided to visit the library and try again tomorrow. While Slytherins were not known for it, he was absolutely persistent.

The next day, Tsuki walked back to the library to do her History homework. She loathed this subject but did well in it.
She opened 'A History of Magic' to the chapter about the Gargoyle strike in 1911.
The Gargoyle strike of 1911 was...
She closed the book after reading a chapter and placed it aside.

Tsuki took out a long scroll of parchment with the homework questions written on it and opened it.
She read the first question.
Describe in your own words- what a wildcat strike is. (minimum 25 words) 5/pt.
The Gargoyle strike is also described as a wildcat strike... (etc. etc.)

She yawned.
Why was History of magic so boring? It was personally to her a waste of time, even if she DID get good grades.
Next question.
Explain what lead to the Gargoyle strike and what happened after. (minimum 50 words) 10/pt.
The Gargoyle strike started due to the fact that they wanted to be treated in a better way... (etc. etc.)
10 minutes passed. Tsuki was on question 10 of her trip to the end of homework for a History of Magic.
Foot steps thudded. She turned round when someone came up to her.

Leonard was nothing if not thorough.

His previous encounter had left him scorned, to say the least. It was such an embarrassment. If Slytherins truly were supposed to be the evil masterminds with silver tongues she’d made them out to be, you’d think he would be able to persuade an already bored student (while he loved the teachers, homework was worth a nightmare and a quarter) to join him for a game. It had made him doubt his own abilities, much more than any other door that had been slammed in his face, and there had been many. How was he supposed to gain power without the power of coercion? The only good thing to come out of it all was he now had another reason for acting classes, though his mother would inevitably deny his request, as she had the past four times. Hence, the slammed doors.

He tapped her on the shoulder, trying not to give into the temptation to make it much harder than a light tap on the shoulder was supposed to be. It was very much a challenge.

“Hello, there. I believe we’ve met before, near this very spot, actually. Just in case you forgot, I’m Leonard. And I am here,” he sat on the chair next to her. “To offer you a safety net from this truly boring schoolwork. Once again, I’m giving you the choice of contest. A game of muggle cards, perhaps. I have a pack in my room down below. Also, I’d like to remind you that slamming doors in other people’s faces is not something expected of a Gryffindor. Or a good person in general.”

He attempted to keep his tone even, though the anger was seeping through the cracks. No matter. Once he won whatever she chose to challenge him in, there would be no need to speak to her ever again.

Tsuki looked round and at him.
"1 of 3. I didn't slam the door in your face. 2 of 3. I'm sorry I was rude yesterday, it wasn't one of my best days. 3 of 3. I actually wouldn't mind playing a game. This History of magic homework is so dull..." she muttered. She noted something down from the book 'A History of Magic', then closed it.
She placed her things neatly into her satchel and got up, pushing the chair back under the table.
For some reason she actually got to like this Slytherin, even though it was her rival house. Usually she would hear Gryffindors muttering insults at the Slytherins when they called them something rude or so. But she guessed not all Slytherins could be as rude and annoying...
She swung the satchel on her shoulder and looked up at the taller boy in front of her.
Tsuki readjusted it, it was in an uncomfortable position. There, better, but not perfect.
A girl from Tsuki's dorm came running up.
"Hey Tsuki, do you want to-" Ruby Slashexer asked, but then noticed Leonard and narrowed her eyes. That boy again.
Tsuki turned round and looked at Ruby. She turned back to Leonard with a hand on Ruby's shoulder.
"This is Ruby Slashexer, one of my childhood friends."

Ruby ignored Tsuki. She took 2 steps forward. He might be taller than her, but he wasn't threatening. She wanted to fight him so badly, but she knew she shouldn't. She decided just to ignore him.
"Tsuki," she said turning around to face her friend,"What are you doing with a slytherin? More specifically Leonard. Haven't you already realised he's an idiot like all other slytherins? " She didn't expect an answer. She remembered him. She had met him in the corridors. They had had been a big argument about houses. She remembered it distinctively. After all, it was only yesterday. Ruby walked past Leonard as if he wasn't even there.
"Tsuki? Are you just going to stand there and talk to a slytherin? If you are I'm just going to say SHAMEFUL."
She then walked off to a table and started doing her homework, trying to pretend that a slytherin was not only a couple of metres away from her. She couldn't focus like that. She got out a book and started to read.
"Maybe this will help block out that idiot" she thought before reading page after page of her book. It was almost as if the other 2 weren't there and that she was the only person in the library.

Tsuki gasped at Ruby's sudden rudeness. Her eyes went wide with shock. When did Ruby meet him? And he wasn't at all what she described him as! He wan't an idiot, let alone like every other Slytherin at Hogwarts!
She bit her lip anxiously. "Ruby was never that rude!"Tsuki thought.
She breathed in slowly. Breathe in, breathe out. Breathe in, breathe out. She remembered a quote from her favourite anime series in the muggle world. "We are Plazma. Let the oxygen flow as we spike, serve or block." she thought and snorted with laughter.
"All I can say to you Ruby, is that it's you being the idiot!" she said, and Ruby heard that clearly.
She gave Tsuki a death stare. "Gryffindor and Slytherins are rivals. They are not supposed to communicate as friends."she whispered quietly, but loud enough for Tsuki and Leonard to hear.
Tsuki went into peals of laughter. "You really need to study up on how to make friends, Ruby! And I only met him yesterday. Stop being so stuck up."
She could see clearly that Ruby was getting hurt, or actually, frustrated and angry. Ruby looked back to her book.
"You will regret communicating with him later." Ruby muttered.
