The Random Art of Boredom solo closed

Evander didn't have any reasons for his actions at all. And maybe that was the most amazing part about this whole situation. The thing was, he had got bored. Not slightly bored, but properly bored. Evander had been sitting next to his sketchbook for almost an hour without making any sketches. After spending enough time looking at the same page, he decided to take care of this problem. It seemed the most logical way of solving it was drawing a person.

Preferably, someone else besides him. Evander stood up, took four sheets of parchment and wrote four identical invitations. The thing is, he chose nobody in particular. He didn't think about who would be interesting to draw. He didn't even spend any time thinking whether he needed four specific characters. Instead, Evander folded four notes, attached them to four owls and studied his collection of birds with thoughtful expression.

"Alright..." Evander said. "Decide yourselves." Owls stared at him blankly. "It has to be random." One of the owls fluffed its feathers. "Don't think too much." And apparently, it was enough to instruct them. Evander opened the window and let the birds fly away. They flew off in all possible directions, and Evander watched them with half-grin on his face. It was absolutely unclear who would receive those invitations. Some innocent student could be studying, having lunch, talking to a friend or just peacefully relaxing, while an owl would drop off an invitation from the guy they probably barely knew.

Exactly what Evander needed. He collected his things and headed for the courtyard. It was quite a huge number of supplies for what should have been a casual afternoon. Sketchbook, few pencils, charcoal, sharpened graphite, erasers, extra amount of parchments to draw everybody in the class, and some face paints which Evander collected just for experiments.

He placed all the supplies under the tree and sat down, studying it carefully. Especially Evander liked the idea of face painting. Well, not that he had some specific design on mind. He didn't think so far. He'd just probably ask the person about their wishes and improvise something. He would draw stars, flowers, silly animals, complicated patterns, anything that seemed entertaining. And, of course, Evander would gladly draw proper sketches, too. He loved to draw people. To Evander it was quite enjoyable process to capture some character on a piece of paper when this person did not expect to become an object of artistic entertainment.

Evander leaned against the tree with his sketchbook on knees. Now comes the hardest part. To wait. Every minute or two he glanced towards the entrance. Nobody. A little bit later... Somebody. Unfortunately, not one of Evander's randomly chosen victims. Evander sighed and returned to his doodles. He really did not know if any of the four would come. But it was alright. He had plenty of materials to entertain himself. Or so he told himself.

Moreover, watching four completely random persons receiving mysterious invitations and deciding if they would come there already seemed like quite an entertainment. Evander smiled at his sketchbook. "Come on, little owls..." he murmured. "Please, don't disappoint me." Somewhere in the castle, four people opened mysterious letters. And Evander couldn't be happier with his boredom.
