It was an unusual activity, given that wands are the core of a young wizard's power; students become dependable with their wands. Yet while your magical ability is undoubtedly important, a capable witch or wizard requires more than their wit and magical ability. Combat training introduces another approach to handle threat when in specific circumstances. After all, a wand could only do so much if the wielder lacked the focus, physical strength, and the ability to remain composed under pressure to use it efficiently. Who knows when one might need it?

Students are introduced to an open field, surrounded by an elongated shape longer than it is wide. The dirt and debris that outline it stand out against the grass that surrounds it. The earth-made track was designated for running and jogging in an orderly manner. Halfway through the area, the grass gives way to two broad expanses of packed earth, which are carefully cleared of rocks and debris. The clearing gives a spacious amount of space for students to conduct their warm-ups and exercises. In the middle shows a pathway to the fencing area.

Set apart from the main training grounds was a small bearing tent. Inside was filled with tables and stations for medical practice. The wizarding world may have no use for this—but in the Muggle world, in dire need, one may find this basic skill useful. But other than that, it also contains your basic magical aid. Stocks of first-aid kits were visible; inside, they would contain the following:
  • Bandages
  • Gauze
  • Medical tape
  • Splints
  • Slings
  • Antiseptic wipes
  • Cold packs
  • Scissors
  • Cotton swabs
  • Burn cream
And a small selection of healing potions.

On the far opposite side of the field stood several enchanted targets, a few suspended higher off the ground than the others. Some remained stationary for those who wanted convenience, while others drifted unpredictably from one place to another across the area, forcing the students to adjust their aim before casting. These targets were divided into sections, with each reacting differently when hit. It requires accuracy rather than force. More specifically, the target becomes harder to hit if one were to cast repeatedly in succession.

The other half of the field takes you to the designated fencing grounds. Significantly separated from the others, students can occasionally practice their parries and strikes here. But to play officially, students are required to sign up.

OOC Clarifications:

1. All site rules apply here.
2. You will earn [MERIT] points by posting. If you wish to receive [MERIT] points, please state your [Cabin name] and [Department] on each post. Otherwise, your [MERIT] points are NULL. I recommend to adding it in on each post you do for the convenience of the moderators for a paper trail.
3. You can only earn [MERIT] points once. Meaning, you can post here multiple times, but only be rewarded ONCE through your first post.
3. You can RP in a solo post or with other participants, such as but not limited to your cabinmates.
4. Daily moderation will be applied to ensure each student adheres to the rules. But we hope this isn't necessary.
5. Do NOT push your character forcibly through these exercises. These activities are for engagement and activity.
6. The activities you partake in DO NOT give you extra points for your Stats. Although you can reference your Stats for your performance in each training you do purely for RP purposes. For example, a character with higher agility can portray themselves faster than the other.
Basic Exercises and Warm-ups:
- Here, you can train your physical abilities. By the means of “physically,” this does NOT refer to hurting or harming other students whatsoever.
- There will be NO magic used in this area of any kind, as this is a physical exercise.
-Participants may engage in activities such as stretching, balance exercises, squats, lunges, and other basic physical exercises/warm-ups. Please keep all activities within reasonable limits for your character.
Jogging and Running
-You can only use the designated track area for Jogging and running activities to ensure there are no collisions with any other activities.
-Any sort of enhancement that affects your speed, agility, or stamina is strictly prohibited. Such as potions, spells, etc. Again, this is purely for engagement and exercise.
-Laps and set records are not a requirement unless otherwise specified. Students are free to run or jog at their own pace. They can either participate in a playful race or jog at their own speed.
Target Practice
-Do NOT aim your wand at another student, resulting in an accident. Aim your wand responsibly.
-If an accidental miscast were to happen, do NOT use it to push harm towards another student.
First-Aid Training
-There are no students who were harmed who will be used for this activity. Instead, it will be replaced with enchanted training dummies that simulate minor injuries that require basic first aid.
-You can apply first aid using the supplies provided.
-If a student were to be injured, eg: a slight bruise, a small cut, etc that requires basic first aid during the activities, you are allowed to RP applying first aid to them. That is, if you both mutually agree to do this RP. You CANNOT create, cause, or RP to injure another student for the sake of this activity.
-Training dummies are the default way to go with this.
Fencing
-Fencing sign-ups will be up soon! If you're willing to wait for it..

𝕴t was the fourth of August. Three whole das spent in a place with new faces. She sighed and closed her eyes for a moment. They had announced that today would be dedicated to combat training. Something Marcella was readily excited for. Her Aunt Hemithea had drilled her enough in physical training that she could do more than a simple jog. She had gotten a letter from her dad, when she had wrote to him with all that was scheduled for the camp, asking her to give everything a shot. But how could she go on and about with life when she was the reason why someone else's heart stopped. Marcella di Angelo....a muderer....an involuntary shudder went through.

No not today. She will do this for her family, if not for her. Today she will try to be someone she isn't anymore. Even if every thing she did and said was faux and forced.

She soon got dressed and went out. But before she left she took her fencing equipment with her. She walked into an open field, surrounded by an elongated shape that was longer than it was wide. The track there was made for jogging and such and Marcella wondered where she should start. A warm up would be good for her aching muscels. Her eyes, though however snagged on the love of her life. A fencing arena. Oh how she missed it. She did bring her fencing equipment with her. All thanks to her gut. A genuine smile spread on her lips. Finally, something I'm an ace at

When she looked around, Marce saw a small bearing tent.

She stood for a while, contemplating her options. And finally she came up with a schedule. First she'll warm up, jog for a while, then head over to the tent. Then after resting for a while she'll go and FENCE! The though of fencing made her excited. So much that it thrummed.

“ n/a, August.4 2026“

Camping hadn't been so eventful but combat training was proposed by the committee that organized this event. Angel surprisingly had fancied combat especially with duelling and considers herself somewhat athletic with her high speed and physical prowess. She made a commitment to give this thing a whirl earning points was her forté just like how Slytherin kept earning the house cup for the third time in a row.

Being cautious she knew some people would be tryhards. Knowing athletics and sports, things can get heated and it will be a inconvenience for those who simply just wanted to spar without the whole dramatics. But what does she know? People have their own autonomy, yet Angel agrees whole heartily that some people need to tone it down from time to time and refrain from being competitive as it was not muggle sports, the wizarding world had it's own way of running things.

It dawned on her that she had regonized a face. It was Ms.Di Angelo, her teammate for the King of the Hill duelling during first year. Perhaps she can regard their other meeting in the corridors as well.

As she entered the arena already she already eyed the fencing part of the space. Angel previously had stretched and did a few laps around the campgrounds from jogging. First aid can wait until she can get used to fencing. She recalled once again on how she loved it back home. Admiring the "Foil" she adored it's light weight and easy handling and so she chose it.

Now then, will she have rust?

This was the first sporting of the "Summer Camp" and despite having just obtained a Seiðr staff but a few weeks ago, it seemed that the beings that were in charge of the sport wished to eliminate magic from the equation entirely.

Peering from behind an English Oak, cool blue eyes purveyed the surroundings with a curious yet cautious gaze. There was a tent, with cloths, bandages, bottles, silver scissors, and strange statue-creatures that were limp and unmoving. A healer's hutch, no doubt. Some creatures ran around the perimeter of the area, like to practice escape from predators that would attempt to catch and trip them. Still others seemed to be practicing the art of the hunt, ones that would fight rather than flee like other compatriots. More practice statues were set up where other creatures pointed their seiðr staves--sticks--but nothing bloomed from them... yet. What was the purpose of not using magic, or using magic, if one could not use the magic or was not supposed to use the magic?

It seemed... unintuitive.

Her eyes flicked from area to area, watching the creatures play as her thin fingers traced the tree bark's ridges and details. Kolibri had told her that this was a good opportunity to get to know children her own age... yet Zyva couldn't help but feel that perhaps the optimism of doing so was far less than the pressing knowledge that they were so different. Already the difficulty of different languages, different dispositions... Zyva was not sure what to do.

But if this was a sport of combat, surely she had strengths that others didn't. Her hand slipped from the tree and tightened on the elk leather pouch that hung over her head and shoulder. A smile began to grace her features as she stepped away from the comfort of the copse. Her soundless steps were only given away by the clicking and jingling of bones and beads that were laced in the countless tiny braids that her hair was tied back in.

She stood for a moment next to the track, watching the prey rush past her in an attempt to beat their fellows out, and a slight grin manifested at the thought of the futility of it all. Yes, flight was useful, but not in an open area such as this. No, to flee required proper cover and concealment--a place to hide amongst the branches and the brush. None would escape if a truly famished predator wished to sink its teeth into them.

As she crossed, her gaze passed over the herbalism hutch. While it was interesting in theory... she was not interested in learning things that she was already familiar with. And as for the hunters who were interested in their physical form and brawn... the girl knew when she was outclassed and intended by nature for a more subtle art. And yet standing among those aiming their staves at a target with no magic to show for it seemed entirely depressing.

Which seemed to leave her once again at the crossroads. A crossroads she resolved herself to depart when she elected to take her place among those who were stretching and warming up. Stretching her long, thin arms towards the skies, she leaned to and fro with a wave akin to a reed. She was thin, petite, short. She looked out of place, especially since she was dressed in a lacy pink and white girl's outfit that her mother had given to her shortly before she had departed with her twin for the United Kingdom.

Yet her eyes tracked and watched each of the hunters around her, and each of the prey creatures that ran the track. She was observing. Watching.

Waiting.

There were blades nearby. She was curious what they would use them for.

Diana certainly had to admit that the training grounds were considerably more extensive than what she'd expected. As she stepped onto the field her muted grey green eyes wandered over the different areas before they took in the running track and the cleared spaces for exercising and even the fencing grounds which were further ahead. A couple of students had already gathered there and she briefly recognized Angel and Marcella among them because she had met Angel on the Hogwarts Express before her first year had even started a year ago and Marcella is a Ravenclaw like her. Another girl was stretching nearby while seemingly keeping a careful eye on the activity around them. There certainly seemed to be no shortage of things to do.

Eventually Diana's attention drifted toward the small medical tent and she could see tables and stations were prepared for first aid practice. It was certainly something that she'd investigate later but for now her curiosity was won over by the enchanted targets.

She then made her way over to the practice area with her wand comfortably resting in her hand as she watched the various targets move. Some remained perfectly still while others drifted unpredictably across the field. She didn't immediately draw her wand to cast. Instead she stood a moment and observed. The moving targets seemed chaotic at first but there were small differences in how they travelled. Some shifted slowly before changing directions while others seemed to move with much less warning. Diana slightly tilted her head and tried to figure out whether there was any sort of pattern to them. There wasn't one that she could see. However she still had a strange feeling that she should wait.

Her gaze followed one of the targets as it drifted across her field of vision. Diana raised her wand just before it changed direction. "Now." The spell left her wand though the target had already begun moving away which meant she missed. Diana lowered her wand and blinked at it. "Right." A small smile tugged at the corner of her mouth despite the miss. Apparently observation alone wasn't going to make this quite easy as she'd hoped. She adjusted the grip on her wand and returned her attention to the targets and was determined to figure out how they worked before she tried again.

𝕿he day was bound to be tiring, Robin concluded after he read the itinerary again. Combat training? This is probably for the future Aurors, when are we doing anything related to research? Or any desk job? The boy isn't too familiar with the concept of summer camps, he does camping with his mother, it dances around the line of annoying and calming. He thought that this summer camp—location being in a forest considered—would give him a chance to preview one of his potential life paths. That's what it advertised, but judging by the currently released schedule, he is increasingly skeptical of the actual outcome. I can't be the only one thinking this, can I? Robin sighed as he made his way towards the combat training's location, hoping that there'd be someone he can share his thoughts with during this long month.

The path he was on opened up into a clearing hosting various distinct sections, quite a few students have already arrived, Robin's nowhere near the first. He observed the areas closely, hoping to find somewhere he'd be able to enjoy even just a bit. Jogging was out of the question, if he'd choose anything physical, it'd at least be interesting. Fencing for example, pretty cool to look at, but to be honest Robin would likely end up hurt even though the organizers hope they wouldn't harm each other. He has absolutely no raw power, stamina's also very low compared to his peers. That's why he uses magic to make up for things, or balancing luggage in a way that maximizes carrying capability while limiting the required strength. My brain is my brawn, he thought colorfully.

Robin looked to the idle and floating targets next. He thought it could be extremely helpful as a sort of dueling practice, if he still wants to be a part of Ravenclaw's dueling team. Which he does, he came to like the activity quite a lot, not enough to let it blossom into a profession, but enough to put some effort into. The boy almost decided to proceed towards target practice, but instead he turned his head just in time to catch a glimpse of a tent. A tent in this summer heat, already a plus. He looked closer, not even realizing that his feet took him right next to the area. First aid? Robin considered walking in for a long moment. There had been moments in his first year that he wished he knew more first aid, mundane methods, that is, in case he didn't bring his wand or any healing potions. Though it was later resolved and dismissed to just an "enriching experience", his friend almost died. At least that's what it looked like to him at the time. He also almost died right next to her.

With all the memories coming back to him all at once, Robin shook his head to refresh himself. He made his decision on what activity he'd participate in for now. First aid it is.

Arriving to the Combat Training area Rain couldn’t decide where to start. He spotted the tent that looked like it was for first aid training, he also saw the track that looked like it could be a good time for running, and he saw what seemed to be a target practice area. Rain wasn’t quite interested in the first aid tent, though it did seem that some other students were as one person was there already. Then, Rain saw someone he recognized from Diagon.

Diana was at the Target Practice area so Rain thought that maybe he’d go over there next. First I want to get warmed up with some light jogging. With that thought, Rain made his way to the track. It may not seem like it at first but Rain was fairly athletic. He wasn’t very physically strong but he was quick and his stamina was nothing to sneeze at. Training with his father and his adventures with both his parents had helped a lot with that. After making his way to the track Rain first checked his shoes and made sure they were properly laced up and on comfortably. Then, he reached down to his toes to get a couple stretches in before doing a couple squats. Just to make sure he was feeling limber and could get a proper form for running. Finishing with his small stretches Rain was ready to start jogging.

One lap… two laps… three laps. Huff, huff. The track seemed much bigger now that Rain had actually run around it. Maybe going to the first aid tent would be better, if only to take a small break in the shade after all that jogging. But no, Rain would much prefer to go to the target practice. He didn’t technically know any real spells for combat yet but it could still be fun to watch the other students. Plus he’d be able to catch up with Diana. Quietly Rain hissed to himself §Yes, that’s a good plan. Hopefully Diana remembers me§.

Once Rain caught his breath he made his way to the Target Practice area. Before approaching Diana he took off his outer cloak and laid it down at the base of a tree near where he was standing, making sure it was out of the way. As his cloak was securely put away Rain turned to go to where Diana was practicing. It seemed that she was trying to find the best time to strike the target and Rain didn’t really want to mess up her shot but he also didn’t want to interrupt when she was actually firing. Because of this he decided that it was best to speak up now.

“Hi, Diana. It’s me, Rain, from the Magical Menagerie. I didn’t know you were going to attend the summer camp. I hope I’m not interrupting you too much. I just recognized you and wanted to say hi. Plus, the target practice looked fun”, Rain started rambling with a small wave at his greeting. Great. Here I go again rambling. Why does this always happen to me? Too late now. I just hope I didn’t startle her too much.

Octavian stood near the edge of the training grounds looking over everything.
Okay so there is fencing, target practice, running and first-aid training
Ooh fencing, something he can do . He went straight for it but stopped halfway.
Warm up first.
How can he forget that his old coach had basically drilled the important of warm up into him. No matter what they were doing warm ups came first his coach always used to say if he concentrate he can even remember his coach's voice telling him it.
Octavian sighed.
"Fine."
If he had to warm up anyway he might as well get something out of it.
He headed towards the running track and started jogging.
He was not the fastest person you will ever met.He is pretty sure Margret beat him in a race which if he thinks about it too much is kinda pathetic that a 62 year old beat him in a race BUT he had pretty good speed and quickly settled into a comfortable pace.
Kill two birds with one stone or in this instate kill two..... where was he even taking this.
After jogging for about 12 minutes he i pretty sure it was not that long but whatever.
He stretched his legs glancing back towards the fencing area.
Alright. Now I can actually do something interesting.

For another moment Diana's attention remained fixed on the target with her wand loosely help in her hand as she considered her next attempt. When a familiar voice caught her attention she was just beginning to wonder whether she had been focusing too much on when the target changed direction rather than where it would be afterward. Her muted grey green eyes shifted toward the boy approaching her and for a brief moment she looked surprised. Then she remembered who he was. "Rain!"

As Diana lowered her wand completely a small smile appeared. Of course she remembered him from Magical Menagerie. How could she forget about him? Diana always remembers her friends and where she meets them. However it had been some time since she'd last seen him but she wasn't expecting to run into him here of all places. "You didn't interrupt me," she assured him and gave a small shake of her head. "I was only trying to figure out how these targets move."

Before returning back to Rain her gaze flicked briefly toward the track. It certainly looked like he'd already gotten plenty of exercise in. "You've been jogging, haven't you? You look like you've already had quite the workout." Diana then glanced back at the enchanted targets and watched as one slowly drifted across the field before it changed direction. "I've only just started here myself. I thought I could figure out the pattern before trying again, but apparently they're not quite that predictable." At her own failed attempt she gave a quiet little laugh. "If you want to try target practice too, you can join me. We could probably figure them out together."

Elara had expected the camp to be a little quieter after the welcome feast, but apparently that wasn't happening anytime soon. Another activity had already been announced. Combat training. She made her way towards the combat training grounds and looked around. The field was bigger than she had expected. A few students were already jogging around the track, while others had gathered in different parts of the area.

Elara stopped for a moment. Her eyes wandered towards the fencing area. A few students were already there, and she watched them for a while. It looked rather interesting. She looked around again. There were quite a few things happening at once. The enchanted targets caught her attention next. Some stayed in place, while others moved across the field. Elara watched one of the targets move across the field before looking away.

Nearby, she noticed a small tent. There were tables inside with bandages, gauze, medical tape and other supplies laid out across them. First aid. Elara stepped a little closer to get a better look. She recognised some of the things, though there were a few that she wasn't quite sure how to use. Maybe later. Her eyes settled on the students stretching nearby. She watched them for a moment before walking over and joining them. She began stretching. Her arms went above her head before she leaned gently from one side to the other. She rolled her shoulders, then stretched her legs. After that came a few lunges.

She paused after a couple and glanced around. Some students were already moving on to other exercises, while others were taking their time. Elara continued for a little longer before trying a few squats. She counted quietly to herself, stopping after several repetitions. Her legs were starting to feel warm. She looked towards the track again. Maybe I could jog for a little while. Elara walked over and started at an easy pace. She followed the track around the field, keeping her steps steady.
