Tragic as it was, Henry had no notion that the American suddenly on his team had feelings about him, platonic or otherwise. Perhaps after the match, the young men would have time to discuss the matter, or perhaps not, only time would tell. The other boy was... interesting, certainly, and wasn't particularly awful to look at, granted being conventionally attractive was a trait he'd noticed many who wielded magic seemed to share, for some reason. But for now, the blue-eyed boy from Bristol was focused more on the game, rather than fantasizing about romantic entanglements - he was vaguely aware that he liked boys, but he was also young enough that it held about as much sway over his day to day actions as the fact that he preferred peppermint toads over chocolate frogs.

As it happened, the narrator was correct, it was just like Henry to wind up in the only section of the jungle experiencing an obstacle this round. He'd barely stepped foot in the zone when a troop of capuchins paraded forth out of the towering trees, seemingly interested in the wands the four first years held in their grubby little hands.

Now... Henry wasn't a particularly strong fellow. Which is to say on an arbitrary scale of 1 to 25, he was hovering at around a 3. Sure, there were several at Hogwarts who he'd still beat in an arm wrestling contest, but it still wasn't saying much, and he was fairly sure that all three of the girls sharing Zone 1 with him could probably mop the floor with him in one anyhow. So, when he was confronted with a particularly frail looking monkey, he was pleasantly surprised at how easy it seemed to be to free it from the capuchin's grasp, albeit, he did struggle a little more than the other three, not that he'd ever admit that.

He chuckled a bit at Avery's quip, "Glad you kept hold of yours too, Why do they want our wands, anyway, they can't do magic, silly monkeys." He paused for a moment, "At least, I don't think they can, can they? They certainly can't with my wand, anyhow, I need it."

“Ugh, how much longer does this go on for?” she complained. The weather here was really starting to get to her. She thought it couldn’t get much worse but the arena seemed desperate to prove her wrong. A horde of nasty little monkeys appeared out of seemingly nowhere. The beasts arrived with their pointy teeth bared at us. It felt like she and Dido were being ambushed by the forest at this point. Two jaguars and now monkeys! This couldn’t just be a coincidence. They swung down from vines and clambered down the tree trunks all around them. “What the hell!” Jada exclaimed as one of them swung down and tried to snatch her wand. She held onto it fiercely; she wasn’t about to lose her most prized possession just so a monkey could snap it into a gazillion pieces. She swung around, narrowly dodging being bitten by another one. “Let go!” she shrieked, regaining possession of the wand back with a final tug. She examined it quickly, looking for signs of damage. Luckily, none were to be seen. She looked over at Dido. She, too, was fighting against her own mass of dark brown and white. “Come on! Don’t let it take your wand!” she yelled at Dido. Whether they were encouraging or not didn’t matter.

After a good couple of minutes, she had finally recovered from the snake encounter. She still remained on the floor for a little, trying to think about her next plan of action. She wasn't quite sure what to do now. This was the second time she had been hindered by the environment, and it seemed like it truly had it out for her.

She sighed and finally got on her feet. She brushed off the dirt and her hand touched her throat tentatively. Granted the snake hadn't constricted around her throat, it still felt like it had. And she could still feel the constraints around her. She took a breath in an effort to calm herself down further. Focus starlight She thought to herself before taking her glasses and wiping the dirt from them.

Just then, a leaf fell from a tree above her and landed on her head. Her vision was completely blocked thanks to how big it was. SERIOUSLY!? She exlaimed going to move the leaf off her head. Mother nature why do you hate me so!? She sighed as she finally got rid of the leaf. Honestly......

She trailed off as she looked back up and saw him. He seemed to hold his head high with this almost misplaced confidence. He was elegant and had this.... air to him... He was sophisticated, but at the same time didn't appear arrogant. And his looks.... by god his looks... If Fawkes were to compare him to something, he would seem like one of the stars in her beloved night sky. Absolutely gorgeous. And absolutely not on her team.

She shook her head. Snap out of it starlight she scolded mentally. But it didn't stop her heart from racing. Why was her heart racing? Was it because of the adrenaline rush from the near death experience with the snake? Yeah. That was what it was. However she couldn't stop her eyes from drifting towards him again. There was just.... something... something about him that she couldn't help but stare at him even as she moved to continue the game. Perhaps after this, she could ask his name...

Poppy was loving this whole Capture the flag game. Granted, she wasn’t entirely certain what was going on: loads of people, one she thought she recognised from America, were running around and casting spells at each other or sitting on the ground and laying traps. Even more were being attacked by the jungle’s huge variety of flora and fauna. Either way, she was having the time of her life.

The bright, hot sun was a start difference from her usual life, mostly spent with her nose buried in damp old tomes in dark, silent libraries. She had somehow already managed to end up covered in bites, which weren’t a terribly pleasant part of the whole Castelobruxo experience. But, despite the occasional itch of her elbow or wrist, she was determined to have fun.

Rupert, of course, seemed to be beating her in this endeavour. He, with his sun-kissed complexion and golden hair was a perfect fit at this school and his beaming grin proved how he felt about it. For a moment, she wondered whether he preferred it here, away from the cold glare of their mother and the crushing expectations from their father’s family. She wondered whether he preferred not being stuck in the library. Free from her.

But, as he sent a dazzling smile her way, she dismissed the thought. He was her brother.

She glanced at her team-mates, and, inspired by Rupert’s happiness, decided it was time for her to fully enjoy the game.

It was brilliant.

He was in a bloody brilliant jungle where they had seen a jaguar. A jaguar!

All of the students he had met so far had been utterly lovely, even if the jumble of Russian, Portuguese, Mandarin, Japanese and English he had heard throughout the day had thoroughly confused him, even ending up resorting to French, a language he hadn’t tried since he was about seven.

Even better, they were outside and they didn’t even have to do much schoolwork! He had woken up that morning dreading the hours of spells ahead of him when, suddenly, he had remembered where he was. The pure joy of the realisation had carried him through the day, lifting him up into the sky as if he were permanently playing Quodpod.

More than that, Poppy, whom he had worried about slightly, somehow seemed to be enjoying herself. She had been happily talking to some Hogwarts girls that morning and he was pretty sure that she and one of the dark-haired, short kids on their team had arrived together.

Meanwhile, Rupert himself had gotten to know a few others, particularly one Brazilian boy who had seemed fascinated when he had mentioned that he was a part-veela, though that could have been from some difficulty in translation.

Either way, the two had exchanged addresses and, as he excitedly looked back at-

The game! Rupert was in a game of Capture the Flag. He quickly straightened up, fixing a bright smile on his face and glancing at his sister. They would win, right?

26TH OF JUNE, 2026 IN THE JUNGLE ARENA

ZONE 1 : HEATWAVE
(Zone Modifier: -1 ACC)

Even as Poppy moved further away from the roaring falls, moisture still clung to the air. Perhaps that was what made the sudden rush of heat so insufferable that Avery and Dido simply could not withstand it. They either suffered from a dull headache or felt somewhat light-headed until they rested in the evening. Those who withstood the heat still felt their sweat stubbornly sticking to their skin. Such sweltering conditions certainly did not aid Henry as he tried to hunt down the enemy flag. Was it somewhere up in a trees, or perhaps well hidden beneath one of the roots growing upwards? He had no clue and neither did Avery.
She must have been so disorientated by the heat that during her pursuit for the flag she was led astray and wandered off in a completely different direction. Dido suffered a similar misfortune when her impedementa backfired on her and slowed down her movement. Whilst Jada had cast a brilliant incendio duo that nearly struck Henry, his keen reflexes kicked in and saved him at the last second. Very fortunate for Henry, but very unfortunate for the tree that caught the stray fireball during a heatwave.

ZONE 2 : NOTHING

Florence kept his guard up, ready to dodge an attack that would never come. All he could hear was the roaring waterfall and the singing of the birds growing nearer before they swooped down into the riverbanks.

ZONE 3 : NOTHING
(Zone Modifier: -2 ACC, -1 STA)

When Rupert left the crystal waters behind and emerged from the fog, he could notice his path slowly becoming obstructed by the thick, overgrown branches and dense shrubs. Tina began combing through some of the flora in search of the enemy flag. After suffering through the harsh downpour earlier, Fawkes decided it was her turn to call upon an unrelenting raincloud and pointed her to the sky, casting metelojinx above her enemies. At the same time, Denisse drew her wand to strike. Not only did she fail to cast her steleus, but her target was long gone by the time the incantation fell from her lips.

In the distance, everyone could see the poor souls, Denise and Humphrey, trying to shake the jaguar off their tail. They easily slipped into the dense greenery. A quick glance behind them would reveal no sign of the jaguar, who either moved onto greater pursuits or simply hid nearby to wait for its next victim.

ZONE 4 : JAGUAR

As Humphrey and Ophelia trekked through the thick forest, they had to push aside small branches and duck under large ones until they stumbled upon the freshly dug trench. As they moved towards the enemy base, the pair unsuspectingly drew the attention of a jaguar lurking in the lush greenery nearby. It slowly crept out and launched a swift attack. Denise and Humphrey were unfortunate enough to clawed by the jungle stalker and were forced to flee from the base as it chased them down. And then there were two – Ophelia and Lauren left behind in the cold, dark trench. Once Lauren was out of sight, she swiftly assembled a trap that was easily concealed by the stray leaves on the forest path.

HOW TO PLAY

The game ends when either team successfully retrieved the other teams flag to their base. Team Spider Monkey will be starting the game in Zone 1 and Team Sloth will be in Zone 4 at the opposite end of the arena. There will be at most 10 rounds, each requiring a post of 200+ words. Please make sure you include your character's stats in your post.

During the first round only, each team must state which zone their flag is hidden in to the thread moderator. You may chose to hide the flag in any of the 4 zones. The flag remains in that zone unless successfully discovered or moved through gameplay mechanics. Do not reveal in game where the flag is located.

Each round, everyone in the team must make at least one action from the Capture the Flag actions list, unless they are unable to act due to a status effect or restriction. These actions are zone dependent. The team scores points by making successful flag actions or interceptive actions towards a flag carrier. Please note that players may only move between adjacent zones and cannot skip zones while travelling.

At the conclusion of each round, the zone state map will be updated to reflect all player locations. Players may only target characters who are in the same zone as them at the end of the previous round. If a target moves out of the zone during the following movement phase, the action automatically fails, with the exception of Flag Intercept and non-magical support actions that include a chase mechanic. When performing these actions, the player automatically follows the target into the destination zone as part of the interaction.

If the action fails while chasing, the pursuing player is left behind in the original zone while the target successfully gains distance.
