Leo liked walks.

The grounds were not that busy today. Lucky for him. He wasn't feeling that hungry today. Lucky for the apple trees around.

As he walked, he looked around. Trees of all shapes and sizes and species were spread around him, and a few students walked here and there. One was sitting on the ground leaning against a tree, sketching something, while another boy was running around, chasing a girl. He wondered why.

The gentle breeze tousled his hair and the grass crunched slightly beneath his feet. As he passed by an apple tree, he spotted an apple hanging just out of reach. He could catch it if he jumped, or better, he could climbed the tree and eat four of five.

Nope. Not happening. Either he dropped half eater apples on others' head, or he himself fell from the tree. He had those experiences, and although me made good friends at the end of those days, he just didn't want to go through any drama today.

He noticed that his footsteps and the slightly audible crunches were making a slow steady beat. He smiled, and started to whistle. He had this habit. He would randomly started whistling and humming, completely unaware of his surroundings. Once he was so absorbed in a book, he started singing ''Twinkle Twinkle Little Star'', forgetting that he was in the library. Oof.

The whistling went up and down. He could go on and on until his mouth ached without stopping as he could whistle while breathing in and out, which he acquired by years of practice. He also started humming too, cos why not?

Before Leo knew it, he was humming and whistling, a full instrumental rendition of ''Mary Had A Little Lamb'', but with too much vocalizing. He internally laughed at what he called what he was doing right now.

That was when he realized he had been going in a circle around the same tree with his eyes closed and his head bobbing along. I must've looked insane, he thought, and promptly.

You're in a public space, Leo, remember that, he told himself, and resumed his walk. Hopefully no one saw him.

The sun was high in the sky. The weather was mild, and it was pleasant to walk in such conditions.

I had eaten just before; it did me a world of good, as I was tired from the homework I had done this morning.

After work, I went for a short walk in the park. As I walked, a tree caught my eye, and I quickly studied it. It could easily support the weight of a girl as frail as me. I quickly climbed into its branches, quite high up, and settled comfortably on a branch, out of sight but where I could still see my surroundings.
As I closed my eyes to rest a little, I heard whistling to a tune I knew well. My father's sister often sang it to me. It was "Mary Had a Little Lamb." I looked down. A young boy, I didn't know him. Probably older than me. I hid from his sight as he began to meticulously observe my tree. Then he started walking around it several times. I whispered softly.

- 彼は狂っている ?
Is he crazy?

I had gotten into the habit of expressing my thoughts aloud in Japanese; I really had to stop this bad habit.
The young boy stopped both whistling and walking. Then he started walking again in silence. Before he got too far away, I sang one of the lyrics to the song he was whistling.

- And everywhere that Mary went,
Mary went, Mary went…

I can't wait to see his face when a tree starts to sing.
