❀ With the school year having come to an end, Leo was feeling a mix of emotions as he packed up to leave his dorm room. Persephone was hiding under the bed for a few minutes before Leo could finally get her out. "I know you don't want to leave either but we have to go home silly kitty." He chuckled as he held the little black cat in his arm and pulled his luggage behind him with his other hand. Leo had grown so accustomed to his little home away from home that leaving now was a little sad.
For the trip coming to Hogwarts he had entered a cabin alone and had one other student join him, now for this ride home he was going to be enjoying the ride with his friends. He was excited to spend the trip with them and knew the time would fly by as their little group talked and hung out.
Leo met up with Rosaline, the two were usually the ones who were most likely to arrive places early compared to the rest of their friends so today the two would get to the train first and save a cabin for the others. What was going to be interesting was seeing them try to fit the whole group into the cabin. Were they going to have to basically be in each other's laps or on the floor? Not just that but he knew Perse was going to be wandering around to everyone wanting attention, which he didn't necessarily mind but hopefully the others wouldn't mind as well.
Looking over his shoulder at the brunette girl, Leo pointed to the first empty cabin and asked her what she thought. "Here okay to you?" There wasn't much difference between this cabin and any of the others but he figured he would ask anyways. Entering the cabin now and placing his luggage away, it truly felt real that he was going home for the summer and his first year at Hogwarts, the thing he had looked forward to for so long, was now over and he was going to be a second year. There was so much that happened over the year, good and bad, that Leo was suddenly feeling so nostalgic of all those moments he got to experience. He did feel truly lucky to have the group he did though. Without them he wasn't sure he would have had as much fun as he did and he couldn't wait for them to all come together again next year.
Once he sat down on the seat, he looked out the window and watched as students were filing onto the train. "I can't believe we are done with our first year." Leo said softly to Rosa as the two waited alone in the cabin for their friends to join them. Persephone had become fond of Rosa, almost as much as Leo himself, and climbed over onto her lap to lay down. Leo just laughed and smiled at the sight, "At this point she is going to miss you as much as I will." He admitted before he could stop himself and instantly felt embarrassed at the words. Leo kept his eyes down, focused on the little black cat as his eyes changed into dark purple.

Vera had forgotten how much she packed when she first came to Hogwarts, or rather, how much extra she'd brought in the winter break. It didn't help that she only had her suitcases, a severe lack of shrinking spells, and no interest in leaving anything behind lest the cleaning elves decided to throw something that happened to be important while she was off the grounds for two whole months. Not that she believed they would, but the Scottish Highlands were quite the distance from London.
At the very least, she wasn't carrying them alone, not with the levitating spell she did learn during her first year. The bags trailed behind her, floating just a few inches off the ground. A bead of sweat formed along the edge of her forehead. It was hard to believe her first year at Hogwarts had gone by so quickly; among all the daily classes and three meals, she had become a duellist (and a captain, for a short period), secretary of the school newspaper, and gone overseas among many other disasters. She let out a deep sigh. If that was first year, she didn't want to think too hard about what second year was going to look like.
Passing through all the compartments, Vera found two of her friends. She had made a fair few during the year; Leo and Rosa, for one, who were already inside the compartment; @Cecilia Merrick, another musician she'd met in the Rehearsal Room one day; @Erast Yan, a Hufflepuff prefect that Vera had grown somewhat close to. There were others, too, like her roommates during the Tenūsa event earlier this year.
She knocked lightly on the compartment door, then slid it open and leaned her head in. "Hello," Vera greeted them, giving them a big smile, "You don't mind if I join, do you?"
Vera waved her wand towards the upper luggage rack, watching as her suitcases landed one on top of the other in an orderly fashion. Once they seemed secure, she closed her eyes and brought her wand arm down.
She slumped into the seats, letting the residual tension bleed out from her fingertips. She sighed. "What a year."

Summer. What came with it was the hot and stuffy air, but also the lush green and the end of a semester, which meant homecoming for her. As Rosaline checked her trunk again, she looked at the window. Ever so blue. Bright like her mood. A faint smile appeared on her face. Thumbing the crest of the Wrenford engraved inside of her trunk, she stared at the delicate sign for a brief moment. It was a gift from her cousin Cedric. He had fabulous fashion taste, so Rosaline would always trust his judgement. Yet, she could feel the weight of it. The expectations, the glory of the family, the stress from her invisible surname. The more she learned about how the wizarding world worked, especially at those gatherings, galas, and balls, the more she felt suffocated by the rules and the convention. The Gryffindor tower was bustling. Everyone was busy with their preparation: finding their missing pet, looking for lost items at the last moment, seeking their friends to say goodbye. “Smoky!” Someone called for their pet loudly from the common room. It broke the silent contemplation of the young Everhart. She closed her trunk and locked it carefully. Rising up, she straightened her clothes. She was ready to meet with her friends. The delightful upcoming event cleared the dark clouds lingering in her mind. “Leo!” Arriving at the outside of the train, she waved with both her hands. The presence of a familiar black-haired boy could always cheer Rosaline up. She giggled as she thought of their plan. It could certainly be called crazy - trying to fit in that amount of people in one cabin. They shall see what will happen next. Rosaline’s eyes lit up as she saw the little black cat; she had the same effect on Rosaline as Leo had. “Perse! Have you been a nice cat?” She reached her right hand to pet her and muttered with the sweet voice people would use when interacting with cats and dogs. “Do you miss me? You little cutiepie.” Her voice was so soft towards the little cat. “You’d love Daisy May so much, I can guarantee you.” As she thought of Lu’s little cat and imagined the scene of the two of them playing together, she grinned before she even noticed. Soon, there was a flood of students, so they decided to get on the train to find an empty cabin for themselves and for their friends. To answer Leo’s question, she peeked inside the cabin. Nothing weird. Just a standard cabin. But she chuckled as she pictured all of them sitting inside. That would be such a memorable scene. “This one looks great to me. Although I doubt that we can all fit in there and be comfortable at the same time.” Rosaline grinned widely and entered the cabin after Leo. She sat on the seat beside him because she wanted to leave space for others after she put down her trunk. The seat was soft and quite comfortable. The window facing the platform distanced them from the busy crowd. She signed softly as she heard Leo’s remark. “I can’t believe it either. The sorting ceremony feels like yesterday. How do we become second year so fast?” She propped her elbow on her lap, leaned forward, and put her chin on her palm lightly. Tilting her head at Leo, one strand of stray hair falling on her face, she gently tucked it back to the back of her ear. She said, “But I’m so glad that I met you and all the people who were going to be packed like sardines with us.” With a soft giggle, she readjusted her posture to a perfect one after she noticed Perse wanted to lay down on her lap. She petted her gently; her silky hair was so smooth, she almost forgot to reply to Leo. “I’ll miss her so much too… And you… Of course.” The fleeting, brave honesty dyed her face rosy pink. She kept her head down, looking like she put all her focus on Perse, but the truth was to cover her shyness. She turned her head up as soon as she heard the noise of the door opening. It was Vera! “Hey, did you encounter any trouble finding us? And of course, please join us.” Rosaline beamed. After watching Vera settle down, she craned her neck to see students passing by outside of their cabin by the windows, wanting to know who would show up next. She was excited to enjoy the journey back home. She was sure it’d be a great ending for her first semester. | re | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

"Daisy May Rosenhart!" The sound of a little Gryffindor's voice echoed throughout the dorm room. Or perhaps she wasn't all that little anymore. A second year now, after all. Or at least, she would be soon. Lucille was packing up, frantically stuffing in items this way and that, and her little cat was being no help. Lucille was doing her best impression of sternness as the cat darted around the room, bouncing on top of the clothes stuffed in her trunk, ruffling the already poorly folded clothes.
Rosa had left already, as had become customary for the pair. Rosaline Everhart, her friend and roommate, would often be ready on time, while Lucille was the sort of person who needed those precarious last fifteen minutes. Rosa would go on ahead, and wait for Lucille. But, truthfully, Lucille was never far behind, the time difference between them often about 15 minutes.
But this time, it felt like it might be greater, what with Daisy May refusing to behave. The last time Lucille had packed up this trunk, Daisy May and her had come to Hogwarts, her second home. Lucille was excited to go home, but Daisy May was just excited to travel. The curious little cat loved going places almost as much as Lucille did, loving the exploration of new places.
Finally, despite Daisy May's interruptions, Lucille was done. She tried to close the trunk, only for it to stubbornly lie half closed, refusing to be zipped up due to the sheer amount of things inside. However, Lucille was just as stubborn as it was and, looking around to ensure that yes she was completely alone, she jumped on the stubborn trunk, landing on her knees and bouncing up and down a bit with the force. But the weight of the girl on the trunk had forced it closed, and she was finally able to zip it up.
"Your turn," she said finally with a sigh of relief, looking in Daisy May's direction. The cat didn't need a second invitation, and ran towards her, jumping up on the trunk with her. Lucille picked up the cat with one arm, the trunk with the other, and then placed the cat on top of the trunk. Daisy May, pupils dilated with excitement, dug her claws into the trunk, stabilizing herself and digging her nails into it. Lucille didn't mind; there were already quite a few scratches on the worn trunk, courtesy of Daisy May herself. The little cat's tail swished in an even motion as Lucille finally hurried out of the dorm and towards the train.
Although Daisy was feeling a bit adventurous, as Lucille expected, the cat stayed put when she saw the ground. Daisy had no ambitions to be stepped on by the crowd of students walking this way and that, some carrying their luggage, like her, and others using the levitation charm to hover it behind or in front of them in the air. "Well, that's an idea," Lucille muttered, upset she didn't think of doing that before. She was almost at the train now, and just wanted to get in the cabin.
Like always, despite the hiccups, Lucille was only 15 minutes late. She peeked in each cabin, darting left and right, before finally finding the people she was looking for. Rosaline and Leo sat next to each other, a cat in Rosa's lap, and across from them sat Verity Engels. Lucille didn't know Verity very well, but she had competed against her in an unofficial broom race once.
"Oh, that took forever. That was so hectic, I'm glad I don't have to do that for a few months," she said, entering the cabin. As they escaped the hum of conversation and entered the quieter cabin, Daisy May perked up. She jumped off the trunk, immediately interested in the cat in Rosa's lap, jumping up on the seat next to her and moving forward to sniff the other cat. Lucille smiled; they looked like twins, except for their eyes.
Turning her attention back to her luggage, she straightened, standing on her tip-toes and trying to reach the top compartment. When that didn't work, she dropped her luggage on the floor of the cabin with a thud, pulled out her wand, and used the levitation charm to neatly store it next to another trunk. Finally, she was done.
She collapsed next to Verity, stretching her arms. She then leaned forward a little bit, looking out the window at the other students still milling about, while the castle served as an elegant backdrop in the sky. "I can't believe we're done with our first year. It feels like yesterday I was just meeting you all," she said, much softer than was customary for her.
Lucille was quite a sentimental person, and the thought of leaving Hogwarts and all her friends filled her with a nostalgic sense of loss. She couldn't believe time had passed so quickly, and so she was uncharacteristically quieter and softer than usual, despite her haphazard approach and arrival in the cabin.
