Lily found herself once again in the Duelling Club. Yes, she had to admit it, she was obsessed. She might as well move in for all the time she spends in here. She wasn't here to moderate a duel this time, she wasn't even sure why she was here. Lily sat herself against a wall, in the corner to be honest, so she was less likely to be hit by a spell. All her classes were done for the day and she was procrastinating on her homework way too much. So I guess that was the real reason why she was here, trying to find something to do that was not homework. As she watched all the other duels, her eyes landed on Axyen Dragonclaw. A fifth year like herself and a Duelling Captain! The two had competed years ago in the Gobstones Club. Good lord that seemed like forever ago! It had defietely been a bit since the two had talked, so Lily stood up and walked over. "Hi, Axyen! It's been awhile since I've seen you around!" He definitely looked different from the last time she had seen him. In a good way, of course! Actually, he looked really handsome. And Lily wasn't just thinking that to be nice.

Fifth year... and this year was going to be different for sure! Axyen had one reason about why he would be at the Dueling Club. He somewhat had a bit of a losing streak, and so he was going to prevent that by training as hard as possible. Especially since he was the Dueling Captain, didn't that put more pressure onto himself?
"O-okay... set a good example, and don't mess up... how hard can that be?" Axyen told himself as he walked towards the Dueling Club. Very hard, apparently. I keep messing up in almost every single duel... Axyen frowned, before shaking the thoughts away. As he arrives, he looked around uncertainly, idly fidgeting with the sleeve of his robes as he tried to figure out what training precisely meant.
Usually, the biggest weakness was that he really, REALLY sucked at dodging. So, Axyen knew that was something to work on, but how do you even dodge... what, exactly? Axyen looked down at the ground thoughtfully when... he heard his name being called? A-ah! Someone's trying to tal—
Axyen stopped internally freaking out! He recognized that voice!
A considerable amount of time since their last interaction has taken place. "Hello Lily!" Strangely enough, Axyen actually felt a bit of confident in his words. Was this a sign that his communication skills were getting better, or perhaps it was just because he had already interacted with Lily before. "Yeah... it has been a bit... How have you been?" Axyen asked, feeling unusually happy.
Things were going better than he had anticipated, since he had been expecting to be stuck training alone, but this was quite nice (and it made for a convenient excuse to stall on training). Is she here to train as well? Axyen wondered to himself. That was likely what all of these students in the Dueling Club were doing, after all. Axyen had planned on picking a corner and sticking to it, to not get in anyone's way, or to not accidentally hit anybody.
Axyen looked around the Dueling Club, those training dummies tend to be quite useful for at least testing the effects of new spells safely—but that's about as far as he went with them... until today, at least. Lily smiled at Axyen as he started to speak. He asked her how she has been and as usual she mentally scowled. Everyone always asks her how she was doing. But to Axyen, she presented a smile. "I've been all right. What about you?" For a minute, her eyes wandered away from him mostly to check out her surroundings and make sure they weren't about to be accidentally blasted by a spell. But inwardly, she had looked away to stop herself from blushing. He was very cute and honestly if she hadn't looked away she would have wound up turning bright red and probably shown that she thought he was cute. She turned her attention back to him as he asked if she was here to practice duelling. Lily giggled a little. That was certainly all she seemed to be doing nowadays. And so she said it, with a laugh. "Actually that's all I've been doing! I've been moderating duels a lot as well as participating in them. What about you? Have you been practicing a lot?" She tilted her head, a purplish lock falling out of its designated spot in her ponytail and she pushed it behind her ear.

Axyen was somewhat glad that his social skills reached his level; before, it was bad and just getting a single word out felt impossible. Now, he was finally able to keep up with most people, at least. "T-that's good to hear—" Was that awkward to say? Axyen didn't know, but he already said it, so he may as well stick with it at the very least. "—I have been doing great myself, for the most part." Axyen nodded, satisfied with his own answer, even if he he might have slipped up a bit there.
The moment Lily laughed, Axyen immediately panicked internally. Did I say something stupid!? Luckily for Axyen, he hasn't quite reached that point yet (assuming he reaches that point ever during this conversation). "O-oh!" Well Axyen had been doing a lot of the same—just moderating duels and getting thrashed each duel participating in duels himself, but otherwise, outside of learning new spells, not much training has been done.
"Mmmmm... k-kind of? I guess I've been learning new spells, but outside of that, it never really occurred to me to train until recently." Axyen closed his eyes momentarily, and then a thought emerged. Wait... WHY AM I OPENLY ADMITTING THAT!? What kind of Captain doesn't train!? What am I even saying right now!? I need to fix that somehow, but how!? Axyen briefly thought, trying to recover as quick as possible. "M-magic training! T-the heart of dueling is knowing w-what spells to use in the moment, a-a-and having more options can make a big difference!!!" Axyen said rapidly, gazing at the very interesting ground as blushed from embarrassment.
Was that a lie? Half-lie? Axyen didn't want to really think about it, because it would only make him more flustered than he already was. "A-anyways, I decided to practice other aspects of dueling... um..." Axyen decided to just leave it at that, for now. Why was he still flustered? He figured he would've gotten over the formal embarrassment after his not smooth change of subject.
"Are you... practicing anything specific?" Axyen asked, for Axyen, he had to practice with his aim and evasion a bit more. It was an unfortunate weakness of his, given that usually, he relied on his magic to help him out a lot, but there was a chance that wasn't much of an option anymore with how the past few duels went. This year will be different! That's what he liked to tell himself in preparation for dueling, but he had a new kind of confidence that it really will be.
Maybe she needs a training partner? Axyen wondered, but he was sure he was going to figure it out in due time. The thought remained stuck in his head, but just in case she did, that would probably be a good time to make some kind of offer. Lily watched Axyen with a small smile on her lips. He was very obviously embarrassed by what he had said if the blush on his lips was any tell. She gently laughed it off and then preceded to try and make him feel better. "You're the captain. You don't have to practice all the time." She laid her hand on his arm. "I'm sure you are a great duellist don't worry about it." Lily shrugged as he asked her if she was practicing anything specific. To be completely honest, no she wasn't. She was here to moderate and maybe cast some spells if someone needed a duelling partner. She was actually not sure why she was here to begin with. It wasn't like she needed the practice. She was pretty good at casting and dodging spells herself. "Not really. I'm just here if someone needs something." She shrugged, her hand dropping from his arm as she looked out over the groups of people sending spells at each other. She looked back at Axyen and raised an eyebrow. "Sooo what's up with you? Ready for the end of fifth year?" She honestly did not know what else to say. Though maybe bringing up O.W.Ls were most likely not the way to go .

Lily's words conflicted with what Axyen assumed was expected of him as Hufflepuff's Dueling Captain; after all, it's he who is leading the team, so should he not by nature be working as hard as he could to... what, exactly? I think I'm supposed to set an example, aren't I? But the more I think about it, the more it feels like I should be practicing more than ever. . . Axyen had a thoughtful expression, and then he noticed Lily's hand on his arm? "W—" Axyen tensed a bit in surprise for a brief moment.
"A-ah... um—uh... th-thank you..." Axyen murmured shyly; it felt wrong to accept such a compliment considering that his current losing streak. I-I'll just get better to earn that compliment...! Axyen thought to himself, determined for the upcoming duel that would be soon. "I-I guess I'll try to take... it easy?" Axyen lied, but perhaps it was him sounding so dumbfounded that made the lie sound more convincing.
At Lily's answer, Axyen paused as he contemplated that answer—that was the second time she mentioned moderating duels. "Do you usually always help people practice their skills... or something like that?" Axyen asked, because that's what it was sounding like to him—which was kind, so he was a bit curious about how that usually went (like what if someone got knocked out?). As for Axyen himself, he was basically against the wall. He wanted—no, he needed to start winning. He just had to get better, but... what about outside of dueling?
"Well... I guess I am? There's still a lot I think I want to try and do, so it feels like I am in a bit of a rush now..." Axyen admitted; you only get one shot at Hogwarts, after all. "..." Axyen decided to try one of his favorite socializing techniques that always helped him when he was in a situation where he didn't know how to respond: parroting. It saved him a bunch of times, so surely it would come to the rescue again!
"Uh... what about you?" Axyen asked, but then he had a new idea—from parroting so much, he could actually become more and more functional in a conversation due to the fact that he learned how conversations tend to evolve. "Do you have like an um—" Axyen internally cringed at his attempt to form a coherent sentence. "—you know, a uh..." A realization, Axyen knew what he was asking now. "A career path, yet?"
Axyen had a vague idea of what he wanted to do in the future when that came about, but he still felt somewhat uncertain. So many choices, so many options, such little time to think, it felt. The homework seemed quicker to pile up and suddenly, Axyen found himself more and more busy with each passing year. It didn't help that this year was going to be especially important and busy for him; actually, it'll be his busiest year next... and it was only going to get more and more busy.
