Not Another Tea Party

Time: Afternoon, after classes

Slowly but surely classes were growing less exhausting. Halfway through exams, most teachers had gone through their curriculum and everything that was left within classrooms was the communal longing for summer holidays to start so everyone could fully appreciate the nice weather and some free time. With the end of the school year approaching and the stress of classes subduing, however, Ruka's own anxiety seemed to be rising to new levels, almost to the point of picking up his counting tic again at every possible opportunity.
This year, despite all his expectations, the end of the school year didn't mean getting on a train to nowhere, a summer of fending for himself and sleeping on trees or dirty alleyways. No, this year it meant going to live with a whole family, a brother, parents, in a house with his own bed to sleep in. The thought was calming and terrifying at the same time. It was all consuming these days, the only thing he could really think about. Never having had a family or a place to call home, Ruka could already see all the ways he wasn't going to be able to fit in there, how it was going to take him less than a week to mess up so much his new family would regret their decision to offer him a home.
Of course he realised that there was no point in stressing and obsessing about all the what-ifs of the upcoming summer holidays, but he couldn't help it. The only thing helping with taking his mind off of it these days was his Fire Dance practice, and he still stuck religiously to his schedule, so that Thursday afternoon after classes he had put on his all black fire retardant outfit and his grey sneakers, taken a couple of torches with him, and made his way to the Rehearsal Room.
He was eager to get to practice, eager to calm his mind and just clear his head for an hour or so. However, as he pushed the door to the Rehearsal Room open, the first thing he noticed was that the room wasn't as empty as it usually was on Thursday afternoons. No, as surprising as it was, right there by the piano, was a girl with dark brown - black even, maybe? - hair, seemingly... Having a Tea Party by herself?
Kicking his sneakers off and pushing them against the wall as he usually did when entering the room, Ruka slowly moved towards the girl, clearing his throat noisily. He would have just turned around and left, typically, would have returned to his dorm maybe to wait until after dinner to go back for rehearsal, but he had been looking forward to this all day and he wasn't going to let himself be delayed just because this girl had mistaken this room for a tea parlour.
"Uh," he started as he approached the girl, tilting his head to the side in question. His too long hair annoyingly fell into his green eyes but he brushed it away impatiently, dropping his unlit torches by his feet. "You realise this is the Rehearsal Room, right? Not exactly the spot to have a tea." He interrupted himself with a thoughtful expression. "Unless you feel like you need to practice tea drinking but that's be slightly worrying." He shrugged his shoulders as if to dismiss the topic, instead getting a bit closer to her and observing her tea cup. "Pretty sure they wouldn't have minded you hosting your little Tea Party down in the Great Hall, don't you think?"

The same routine, wake-up, eat study eat again then sleep. The usual not much was going on anyways. Well, for the young witch at least. Did she enjoy it? Was she complacent with the fact that hags, vampire mosps, spiders are running around the school? Perhaps. She didn't care much about it at first, like most students in the school. But unfortunately, things were definitely getting out of hand with the new rules coming. There were already rumors spiraling regarding the dhampir race. All those boring stuff. Did it even matter anymore? Summer was approaching.
With nothing to do and already done doing revisions for the next school year, what better way than to enjoy her free time with the most beautiful thing the world has ever seen? Tea! Come to think of it she never did have any use for the teabags she made in that one errand and who knows if it might be her last tea party before something happens to her-with too many things happening inside the school, she was ready for anything. She could have gone to the great hall to enjoy her little tea party, but of course, she mentally disliked when a person suddenly barges in while she only wanted some time to herself, but fate hated her for a reason. If it's only a couple of people she wouldn't mind, she loved making tea anyways but not in a suffocating environment. So why not the rehearsal room? Usually, it's empty after all, with people suddenly singing on their own or someone without a full reason began to play sad music. That's why. The rehearsal room was a very depressing place where you can enjoy and listen to people having their own moments and free music! She's heard a couple of people doing so many times while passing through...is it really that important to have a filter moment where someone just suddenly plays a piece of music that instantly makes them depressed? Selene shook her head, she's been reading too many novels and 'comics. Most of them were ones that muggles loved and created without knowing the pure existence of purebloods, magic, wizards. Her lips clamped shut as she looked out of the window,' What would it be like?' She wondered. ' To know nothing about everything? To believe that everything was a lie?' Could things have been different? Would her mother still be alive? Immediately she liked her tongue. 'No, the answer will always be a no.' Her mother will never come back and that will be something she had to live on with forever, what was it with dead parents? Almost everyone she knew had it. She was nothing more than basic, the same as them.
She sat down in a fluid movement, putting down her grandmother's tea case. If her grandmother's dead doesn't it belong to Selene now? Is she dead? Not even Selene knows where she is right now. she left her, that's it. She just had to accept it. It was all in the past she had to forget it. Her grandmother wasn't there anymore. Her aunt's the only person who stayed, but who knows when she'll die as well. Perhaps Selene was just accepted on people leaving her behind that it suddenly becomes a cycle In her life, will she one day leave to? It was inevitable.
She opened up the blue box, revealing too many tea sets to count. Fortunately enough, her mood became more relaxed after seeing them. Tea always knows it's way into her heart. She carefully prepared each of them. Then she heard footsteps, then the door opened!- Wow was that supposed to be dramatic? Selene was surprised when she heard the footstep, she knows how to keep her composure, after all, one must always be careful of who or what's lurking.
As soon as he approached, she immediately examines him? How could she not? The boy was cute, he reminded her of Jeremy with his eyes. Selene out of all people would know the difference between liking and loving and this was just plain interesting. He seemed to be older than her, a second year? Come to think of it he's the first second year she met aside from her prefect. "You realize this is the Rehearsal Room, right? Not exactly the spot to have tea."
As soon as he spoke something clicked inside her. Somehow, it only means one thing. That the person will be, very, very interesting, there's a reason Selene loves mystery, could he be another one? Selene looked at him as her eyes widen with surprise until it disappeared quickly. At least if she was going to get killed by a dhampir for being alone, now she had someone else besides her to be bait!
"Unless you feel like you need to practice tea drinking but that's slightly worrying." Selene couldn't help but stifle a giggle as she looks away. Well, he is right on that part. This will be very interesting indeed. "Pretty sure they wouldn't have minded you hosting your little Tea Party down in the Great Hall, don't you think?"
She looked at him once more straight into his eyes with blue ones. "Well, it is called a Rehearsal Room for something," Selene then noticed that had torches with him..? Selene never went to the circus, 'Vogel im kafig', a good word to describe herself. The boy's hands looked like ones of a performer, did she barge in his peaceful realm, or was he the one that barged in on him? "circus boy." She continued. Well, she didn't know his name yet, it's not like she would call him carrot-head or something.

Despite the fact that Ruka had approached the girl to make her realise how strange and inconvenient a spot she had picked for her little tea party - or maybe not so little judging by the size of her tea set - she didn't exactly seem very fazed by his words, even giggling here and there as if he was somehow amusing. Not exactly something he thought of himself as, but he wasn't going to argue this girl's perception of him just yet.
Tilting his head to the side as she spoke, Ruka found himself unable to suppress a surprised laugh bubbling from his chest. "Circus boy?" he repeated, lifting a scarred hand to run through his too long hair, brushing it out of his eyes and away from the scar he had obtained at the last Tea Party he'd found himself in, still faintly pulling from above his right eyebrow to the left side of his forehead. "Where does that name come from? Do I just look like I escaped from the circus?" His words came out sounding like he was strongly offended but his expression revealed some amusement, a welcome distraction from the things running through his mind so insistently these days.
His eyes dropped to the torches he had left on the ground by his bare feet, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips. Maybe she had seen the torches and immediately connected them to a circus act. Well, it wasn't a far cry considering his dad had been practicing his art in a circus before, but Ruka himself had never set foot in one of those tents, had never performed his dance in front of that kind of audience. All the word circus meant to him was a community that had abandoned his father the second he needed to devote his time to caring for a baby. It wasn't necessarily a term he wanted to be associated with, but of course he couldn't reasonably blame the girl for it; How was she supposed to know that, after all?
With a little sigh, Ruka picked his torches up again, pulling out his wand to cast a quick and simple Incendio on them, grinning brightly as the tips caught on fire. "Alright then, Tea Girl," he said, slightly mockingly as he took one lit torch into each hand, wand tucked safely back into the pocket of his airy black trousers, and started twirling them on either side of him. "So what's with the Tea Set? Are you expecting more guests or was I crashing your party?"

She couldn't help the plastered side-smile imprinted on her face, or was it a smirk? Depends on how the copper-haired boy sees it. She wasn't familiar with gingers, well what do you expect from a dolly like her? It was easy to guess. Unfortunately for the boy, Selene wasn't one to take things too seriously nor was she easy to offend. It was tea-time, tea-time will always be for relaxing and the boy sure looked like he needs one, could he be going through puberty? Or a man period? That could be the case considering studies have shown that summer, not winter, is the season when people are most likely to have higher levels of circulating stress hormones. The boy was older than her, it makes sense..she would immediately come to a conclusion that his stress hormones were off the chart. Why did she even care? A question that pops out of a Slytherin every now and then, well because her gut told her so, duh. He definitely needs tea more than Selene herself. Selene turned around to get a boss of sugar cubes, adding two cubes pouring her already prepared hot water. She continued to listen to the boy while preparing tea, for both of them.
"Circus boy?" The boy replied she couldn't help but let out a soft 'hm' as she glances at him, for a moment as the boy brushes his hair out of his eyes, once more, she thought she saw a scar near his eyebrow on his forehead, where else would you want your eyebrows on? Your upper lip? No, that's a mustache. She was clearly proud of the nickname..in a way, what? Did no one ever call him that? It made her a little prouder of it."Where does that name come from? Do I just look like I escaped from the circus?" He said as if he was offended by the nickname from the oh-so vitriolic tone of his, but the feeling was as if he was amused, a definite 180-degree difference, well quite. She took a look at him sideways before continuing to search for the tea box. The boy was definitely amusing! He wasn't annoying like many of her interactions, yet. Who knows? He might just be a jerk, looks can be deceiving after all. But what was that sudden feeling from her gut? It felt..different. She was cautious but at the same time fascinated, Selene was like a moth drawn to a flame whenever her intuition or gut decided to make a sudden surprise, she could be foolish of her actions yet reckless at the same time of the endgame of her progress. But her intuition was never wrong..was it? It's a ride or die relationship. She turned her back to him as she searched for her teabags, the fox, and the bunny. "Well, you might as well attract one." Isn't that right? From what she's seen in the movies, especially 'The Greatest Show' the ringmaster would be the one to recruit ones they thought deserve to be seen all around the world. The irregulars one might say, or the exceptional ones. Selene nevertheless, was unknown to the fact of how her nickname to him might have made him in a feeling of remembrance, who knows?
Selene, after finally finding the tea box made sure to keep count of them because of how much she worked on them, but hey she could just make another one. It only mattered a little. The bunny teabag for her and the fox one for him. "Alright then, Tea Girl," His comment made Selene's focus while stirring, definitely ticked it off. The sound coming from teacup she was preparing as she puts down the spoon, a little harsh, a little.Of course, the fact that inside this rehearsal room were only both of them, depending on how big the room is the sound would echo through the room. The fact and the way he said it so..disrespectfully...and how accurate he was on the nickname, definitely put a nail on her head. She did in fact loved tea. What? Did he not have any more nicknames other than that? She couldn't help but rolled her eyes while stifling another laugh, she already had one more nickname for him, she wondered if he had one more as well. Eh, she wouldn't set her hopes too high.
"So what's with the Tea Set? Are you expecting more guests or was I crashing your party?"As soon as she dipped her bunny teabag, it would jump around the teacup the tea turning into color with a resemblance of the midnight sky. It was based on an old Japanese tale after all, and just so happens to be her alter ego. While watching the teabag slowly turning lifeless, she replied to the copper-haired boy, "Is it necessary to have guests at a party? If so then there'll be dolls scattering around this room by now." She said putting the fox teabag near the boy's teacup. She'd rather have dolls everywhere surrounding her rather than wasting her quality time in shame. She was about to ask if she ruined his schedule practice, but any idiot nor a fool would know that the answer would be a yes, it would be pointless, so instead while he was already here. "Well, you said so yourself, a party. Every party has it's own surprise performance, does it not?" The question was rhetorical. She took a sip of her moon tea, the delightful taste, and refreshing aftermath, making her mood much more relaxed. Her shoulder finally not so tense anymore, she had been studying way too much.
"You're already here anyways and from the looks of it you're not holding back either." She took a glance at his torches, he was going to perform either way so might as well do it. The first step in getting to know someone is to try and make them comfortable enough with you. Some people were scared of the unknown, the boy in front of her now reminds her of scattered puzzle pieces, it takes patience to find all of them. But the question is, will they fit? Selene wouldn't call herself a liar, never. Lying is easy, deception and subterfuge are not. She will do whatever it takes to fit them, once she has found something that intrigues her, even if it means making the boy cried.
Will she be able to do it tho? She would never underestimate what's in front of her. This time, her gut tells her he was more than a tough cookie or a brain-twister, a closed book? or maybe even a conundrum.
