A Way to start

1st August, 2026
First day at Hogwarts after a month of vacation, and it felt like an eternity had passed. So much had happened in July that it seemed unbelievable how little time had gone by. Meyra returned to the castle grounds carrying something that finally filled the void that had always been a part of her being. She carried with her a new family that had welcomed her with unexpected warmth, as if she had always been a part of it despite the years spent away, unaware that she also belonged there, with them.
It was with this feeling of completeness and lightness in her feet that Meyra arrived at Hogwarts Summer Camp. Her luggage followed behind her as she pulled it, making the wheels turn on the uneven earthy ground. She had never felt so confident arriving there as she did that year, as if the cloud that had hung and weighed on her shoulders had finally disappeared, as if discovering this piece of her history had freed her from doubts and uncertainties she hadn't even noticed before. It was as if she had found a part of her identity and was now returning there with her head held high, a smile present in her emerald green eyes and the slight smile that now seemed to permanently illuminate her face.
A smile with which she addressed Jun, her cousin, who, as always, accompanied her on yet another adventure. Well, in reality, Jun, this year, was part of the committee that had organized that event. And Meyra couldn't be prouder of her best friend. It was as if they had both agreed to face their fears in these last few months and now they arrived there a little different from prior years. But at the same time, it was as if they were returning as the little Mochizuki that the world had known long ago. Not in their fullness, because the world was not the same, they were not the same, nor would they ever be again. There were invisible and visible scars that would always exist to remind them of their story.
"Aren't you really going to tell me what's going to happen here?" Meyra asked Jun for the second time since they arrived, “Seriously? Not even a little? Just a small, little spoiler?” She continued, bringing her index finger and thumb together, leaving a small space between them. Her smile was mischievous now, knowing perfectly well that Jun would keep everything she had prepared a secret and that there was no point in insisting. But it was fun to see her cousin's reaction!
As they approached the area where the various cabins were located, there was a large blackboard. On it, Meyra read the names of the group they had been assigned and which Department of the Ministry of Magic they had been given. “Is this the theme?” Meyra asked Jun enthusiastically, “The Ministry of Magic?”. In general, the names written on that board seemed familiar. Some were probably from her year and had already shared some classes or common spaces in the castle. But many she had never heard of. However, one name caught her attention, Cursa McCoire. Her smile widened almost imperceptibly as she read that name in there, “It seems like it’s going to be a very familiar cabin. Do you know him, Jun?” Meyra asked her friend, pointing to Cursa’s name, “He was with us at Beauxbatons!”
Meyra was excited about the Department she and Jun would be in. It made perfect sense, considering that both had family ties to Law and Enforcement. Meyra had always dreamed since she was a little girl of following in her father Rodney's footsteps and becoming an Auror. The bed time stories he had told her had always fascinated her with that profession. Maybe one day she would end up making that dream come true, who knows? Although she had always felt torn between that and becoming a potions expert. Perhaps she would become both?
Holding the strap of her guitar case that hung around her shoulder, Meyra walked alongside Jun to their assigned cabin. As soon as she opened the door, Meyra almost felt at home with the decor she could glimpse before her wheeled suitcase got stuck behind her and she had to turn around to see what was happening. The wheels of her luggage got caught in the door frame when she couldn't find the right angle for both bags she was carrying to fit through easily. With a small tug, the bag finally spun forward, but Meyra applied too much force and the weight of her guitar case caused her to lose her balance. With nowhere to brace herself to prevent a fall, she thought she was going to fall on her backside onto the dark, polished wooden floor. But instead of hitting the hard ground, her shoulder collided with someone that was already inside the cabin, someone she hadn't yet noticed. She felt a hand on her lower back, helping her to steady herself.
Her first instinct was to look up to see who had been kind enough to help her after she had shown her most never-welcomed clumsy side. A soft scent of waves breaking against cliffs, sea salt, and forest sage gently caressed her senses and Meyra felt her cheeks warm and blush in the same instant her green eyes first saw him. Tall and charming, with slightly disheveled brown hair with soft curls, dark eyes that made his gaze intense yet gentle, and a face that could only be described as worthy of a classic romance novel.
Suddenly, she became quite aware of her position, and awkwardly took a step back, pushing away from the hand that still held her. A hand that left behind the ghost of its touch, and a sensation that wouldn't let her stop blushing. "Sorry," she said timidly, trying to sound self-assured, but obviously failing miserably. Mey tuck a strand of hair behind her ear, quickly avoiding looking at his face, taking the excuse of adjusting her clothes instead, "And thank you." She finished, properly placing the strand of her guitar case over her shoulder, "I didn't hurt you, did I?" she asked, finally gaining the courage to look at him again. He wore a rich blue and white summer shirt and light-colored trousers, a satchel draped around his broad, athletic shoulders. His composure and attire told her that he almost certainly belonged to a respectable family, and his presence could make her swear he was a sportsman of some sorts.
At that moment, she almost felt grateful for having lost the battle with her mother and for having worn what her mother had chosen for her that morning while she rushed and hurried to avoid being late for the train. Because, obviously, Meyra had fallen asleep and woken up at the last minute…again! “Meyra Lancaster…McCoire…I guess.” She introduced herself, stumbling over her words. Never in her life had she felt like this…so unsure of what to say, how to act, where to put her hands… Mey finally looked at Jun, and in her gaze two words could be translated: please, help!

He was content with the cool Nordic summers and his days spent sailing and swimming at the coastline of their estate. There usually was one or the other event and the days were long with nights bright as day. Scottish summers, Vilhelm noted, gladly weren’t much warmer than Swedish ones, but rather around the same temperatures. Yet, he most likely would not have chosen to attend Summer Camp at Hogwarts — camping was truly not his preferred type of vacation — if it weren’t for the international quidditch games. As of this year, he was on the Quidditch team for Durmstrang Institute as Second String Beater. The „second string“ in that position was a bit disappointing but Vilhelm had been taught that patience, discipline and determination were what formed a steady, strong force in oneself. Therefore he had no problem waiting for the place in the team that he actually wanted.
With perhaps a little too much confidence, the Swede strut across the Campgrounds. After their arrival he had spent a moment to familiarize himself with the surroundings, specifically the Great Lake — which seemed perfect for a morning swim, though presumably not allowed. Vilhelm had yet to figure out whether he cared. Though those who knew him would have most likely guessed that he did not care. Rules were made to be stretched thin and possibly broken through. There was a forest close by, named the Forbidden Forest, which he had snapped up while walking past some soon-to-be first year. Research had of course been done before coming here, not only by him but by Solveig talking his ear off, of how Hogwarts simply let any half creatures attend here for education. An education that Vilhelm was yet to be convinced of to be even half as good as Durmstrang’s. At least the Scottish nature seemed to be quite beautiful, though of course it was not comparable with the cool, far north of Europe.
With his Satchel strung across his shoulder, Vilhelm made his way through students that appeared either lost or far too elated for their own good. There was a blackboard with Departments of the British Ministry of Magic and names of participants categorized into groups. His name appeared with a group of names unfamiliar to him, within the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. In his hopes, that was one of the more sophisticated Departments, which was why he also hoped his cabin group would be similarly.. well behaved. Living in a space with complete unworldly, artless, unkempt slovens — for a whole month not to mention — would have been worse than many things he could have imagined. Sharing a bathroom with his twin sister on vacation, for example. Who needed that many beauty products laid out on the counter?
Upon finding his designated cabin, the Swede entered the space with the welcoming sight of no one else inside. The interior was held in deep navy, forest green, mahogany and brass, which made for a grounded, almost calming aesthetic. From what he could see from where he stood, there was a large fireplace in the common room with several leather sofas and armchairs. Perfect. Camping was by far not luxurious, but this was far better than what he had expected of Hogwarts and its provided sleeping arrangements. Vilhelm’s gaze moved around the space, from bookshelves with classic reads to portraits of Aurors and maps of Britain. The space smelled clean and woodsy, which was also not a downside. And now that no one was here, Vilhelm could choose one of the bedrooms without anyone being able to stop him. He wanted a window by his bed.
Alas, he seemed to be too late as the entrance opened behind him, causing light to flood the otherwise comfortably darker area. Vilhelm turned just in time to see a long, silky head of dark hair and a glimpse of light skin provided by her ponytail swishing over her delicate neck as she pulled on her luggage. The always respectful and well raised boy was about to offer his help when one of the bags twisted loose. With it, the girl — who‘s face he had yet to see — stumbled toward him a little too fast. Her shoulder hit his chest and he instinctively reached to steady her. His warm, strong hand made contact with her lower back, just as when he steadied one of his sisters or his mother. A gentle, guiding gesture that he was so used to.
Only that now a shoulder wasn’t the most prominent thing hitting him square in the chest. The scent of warm cherries, pine trees and sandalwood was, in fact, a far harder hit to his senses. Almond shaped amber green eyes moved to look up into his dark ones. Like staring into the leafy canopy covering a Swedish autumn sky as the sun sets. They were curios and holding a glint of something that almost made Vilhelm forget that he wasn’t supposed to be staring at this girl that had just stumbled into his arms. Her cheeks blushed in an awfully cute rosy color and the corner of his lips twitched as she straightened up and his hand fell from where he had been steadying her. His fingertips prickled slightly and he shoved his hand into his back pocket in an attempt to ignore that odd sensation.
His opposite seemed clearly nervous, as she brushed a strand of that silky hair back and adjusted the strap of her guitar, as well as her clothing. A white top, a soft green cardigan — the color wasn’t nearly as pretty as her eyes — and cream colored trousers. There was a delicate gold necklace dangling around her neck too. She looked.. nice. Casual, yet put together. He liked that. He liked something about her. Even when she apologized for her rather clumsy arrival and asked whether she had hurt him. „Nah… don’t worry about it, Ангел1. You’re light as a Перо2… ah, feather.“ He smirked slightly, voice smooth and warm.
Vilhelm was fluent in four languages, but switching between the four was at times just a little rocky. Especially since he used English so rarely. There was a light Russian and Swedish accent to his speech too, though that often only added to his charm when he spoke. The pretty girl, presumably a Hogwarts Student as she spoke perfect English, introduced herself as Meyra Lancaster McCoire. He almost spoke on her little „I guess“ at the end of her sentence but chose to let it slide. Meyra was clearly already nervous enough. „Vilhelm Hugo Djupandstierna,“ he introduced himself and extended that same hand that had lingered on her lower back not long ago, „But you are welcome to just call me Vilhelm.“ His last sentence was accompanied by a small wink at her.
Only when she turned to look at someone, Vilhelm realized there was another girl behind her. Deep brown hair, brown eyes, but most definitely related to Meyra. They looked alike in a way that was almost odd. Like the girl who stood behind Meyra had taken polyjuice potion and the effects were slowly wearing off. However, compared to the green curios eyes he could have stared into for hours, that… sister(?) of hers looked like she hexed anyone that got too close. Nonetheless, he shook hands with her too and she introduced herself as Jun Mayumi Mochizuki, which was odd as that wasn’t even one of the last names that Meyra had introduced herself with. So they weren’t sisters?
Vilhelm decided not to spend any more time on the thought — he’d surely find out over the summer — and decided to get this further than awkwardly standing in the middle of the entrance. „Would I be correct in the assumption that the two of you attend Hogwarts?“ Vilhelm asked and simultaneously dropped his satchel on one of the armchairs close by, then walked back closer to where Meyra stood. That warm scent filled his nostrils again and he found himself thinking that he wouldn’t mind spending a summer surrounded by this scent. „May I offer my help with both of your luggage? My mother would have my head if I let ladies handle their own baggage.“ No matter how unexciting the summer had seemed previously, good manners were something the Djupandstierna family had installed into their children from their birth. And charming both of his cabin mates from the start, especially two pretty girls, seemed like a good way to ensure a smooth stay.

A Way to start

It was my first summer camp. It was hot outside, and I was already starting to tan slightly. Although, my shoulders were slightly burnt. When I got to Hogwarts, I dawdled, looking at the view. Then, I went to the blackboard. It had the room allocations on it. Thankfully, I was in the law enforcement one - the auror one. But, I barely even recognised any of the names on it. But, I picked up my luggage again, and headed to the cabin.
When I got there, there were only three people, partially blocking the doorway. I manouvered past them, and put my trunk, broom, and cat carrier on the floor. I looked briefly at the books on the shelves. Then I went back over to the people, just in time to hear them introduce themselves.
The boy had a surname that I couldn’t write if I tried, but his first name was Vilhelm. He winked at the girls, which I found slightly strange - winking at a stranger seemed a bit off.
The two girls who looked similar were called Meyra, and Jun. Meyra was the one with a blush, who was also stumbling over her words a bit - I subtly raised an eyebrow. I vaguely recognised the girls, meaning they were probably Hogwarts students, or I’d met them on an international event.
“I’m… Mira.”
As far as I was aware, that was the first time I’d ever asked people to call me by my nickname. It was satisfying.
“I’m twelve, nearly thirteen. Going into third year.”
I moved back, so that there was some space.
“Can I suggest that we move out of the doorway, and take advantage of the comfy-looking chairs?”

Mikey had been at Hogwarts for less than an hour and somehow already felt like he'd forgotten something. He stopped halfway across the campgrounds and looked down at the trunk dragging behind him, then at the broom balanced awkwardly over his shoulder. His satchel was still there. Wand was in his pocket. Clothes were hopefully in the trunk. He had remembered his broom, which was probably the most important thing anyway. After another few seconds of mentally going through everything he'd packed, Mikey decided that if something was missing, it clearly wasn't important enough for him to remember.
Coming back to Hogwarts after only a month away felt stranger than he'd expected. Normally the summer meant returning to Liverpool and settling back into his old life for a while. Football at the local pitch, wandering around with friends, spending time with his dad, and generally pretending magic wasn't involved in nearly every part of his life now. This year he'd barely gotten comfortable at home before it was time to pack everything up again. But the moment Hogwarts had come back into view, he'd realized just how much he'd missed the place. Summer camp was different, though. The grounds looked familiar, but everything felt much more relaxed without the normal rush of classes hanging over everyone. There were students wandering around in summer clothes instead of robes, luggage scattered everywhere, and people greeting friends they apparently hadn't seen in the extremely long period of about four weeks.
He'd barely made it onto the grounds before catching himself looking around for familiar faces. First, he needed to figure out where he was supposed to sleep. That turned out to be easier than expected. A large blackboard displayed the cabin assignments, and Mikey stepped closer to search through the names. His finger moved down the board until he found his own beneath the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. "Could be worse," he muttered. Aurors were interesting. Chasing dark wizards certainly sounded better than spending the summer pretending to understand magical taxes or whatever some of the other Ministry departments did all day.
Then he started reading the other names. Avery Gray. His expression brightened immediately. Well, summer camp had just improved considerably. He recognized Mirada too, which earned another smile. After their latenight conversation in the Ravenclaw common room, he was glad he'd apparently have someone else around that he already knew. There were a few other names that seemed vaguely familiar, although he wasn't confident enough to say he'd actually met them. Meyra Lancaster, Jun Mayumi Mochizuki, Cursa McCoire. Vilhelm Hugo… Mikey stopped as he stared at the last name. "Djup... and..." Nope. He wasn't even going to try. Whoever Vilhelm was, Mikey sincerely hoped introductions were done using first names.
He grabbed the handle of his trunk again and started toward the cabin, his broom still resting against his shoulder. The uneven ground made the trip slightly more annoying than it needed to be. Every few feet one of the wheels caught on something, forcing him to yank the trunk forward before continuing. He pushed the door open and immediately stopped. There were already several people inside. For half a second Mikey considered quietly backing out and pretending he'd walked into the wrong cabin. Not because he minded meeting new people. Usually he was pretty good at that. It was more because he'd apparently arrived directly in the middle of something. Two girls who looked enough alike that he immediately assumed they had to be related were standing near a tall boy Mikey didn't recognize. Another familiar face was nearby. Mirada or apparently Mira, judging by what he'd caught just before entering.
Mikey stood in the doorway for another second, taking everything in. Then he realized something. He was standing in the doorway, with a trunk, after someone had literally just suggested everyone stop standing in the doorway. "Yeah, that's probably a good idea," Mikey said, immediately dragging his trunk farther inside. Unfortunately, one wheel caught against the bottom of the doorframe. One final yank freed the wheel so suddenly that Mikey stumbled backward two steps and nearly introduced himself to everyone by falling over his own trunk. Somehow, he stayed upright. He glanced around the room as though checking whether anyone had noticed. A grin appeared on his face as he moved his trunk safely against the wall and finally got a proper look around.
The cabin was actually much nicer than he'd expected. When he'd heard summer camp, Mikey had imagined cramped wooden cabins, uncomfortable beds, and possibly spending a month trying to convince spiders that his pillow wasn't communal property. Instead, the place had leather chairs, bookshelves, a large fireplace, maps, and dark wooden furniture. It looked less like summer camp and more like somewhere an Auror might actually live. The Ministry theme suddenly made a lot more sense. Mikey shifted the broom off his shoulder and rested it against his trunk. "I'm Mikey," he said simply. then "Forville."

xx 𝕷Summer camp. Avery could not believe that it has finally come the time for the event to roll around again. She knew she should be thrilled. She was going back to Hogwarts and escaping the nightmare that was now her life. Though there was little joy within the lioness at the moment. She had lost her grandfather just days before. The thought alone still tortured her. Plagued her nights as she lay awake staring at the ceiling. Wishing the nightmares to go away.
Avery barely registered the trip to Hogwarts. Her head leaned against the window of the train as she watched with unseeing eyes as the scenery flew by. Changing from the familiar Welsh countryside to the rolling hills of Scotland where Hogwarts was located. She was like a machine. Going through the motions and barely giving a glance to anyone. Dylan, who had chosen to attend summer camp with her, seemed the same.
Upon entering the grounds of Hogwarts, Avery made a beeline for the campground. Not even a glance given to see if her cousin had followed suit or not. She was a woman on a mission. A lioness on the hunt with her prey in sight. And her prey? Well, that was soon to be revealed.
Cabin assignments were not too bad. Was she part of a different group than normal? Yes. Was she mad about it? No. Not at all. Instead, she felt a trickle of joy flow within her. This was her chance to start fresh and meet new people. At least Mikey and Dylan would be there to support her. Then again, after how she and Mikey had left things the last time they had seen each other, she hoped he would be as overjoyed to see her as she was. All she really needed was his presence. She did not need sympathy. No. Sympathy said she was weak, and the lioness was far from weak.
She walked silently into the cabin. Dylan following close behind her. Though there were other people in the room she didn't recognize, she set her sights on one person. Mikey. Relief flooded through her. The angst of seeing him again after the kiss on the cheek leaving her system. "Mikey." Her lips whispered out as she dropped her bags on an empty bed and approached him. Her arms enveloping him into a tight hug. "I've missed you." She spoke softly again.
Then she pulled away from Mikey, but lingered near. She needed his strength and presence to get her through this. Turning her attention to the other people who were probably staring at her now, she knew she should be embarrassed. Though considering she was already miserable and done with life, she felt not even a lick of embarrassment. She had not seen her boyfriend since the end of June. Of course she would greet him first. Besides, she needed him. She had lost everything, and he was the only stable ground she had at the moment.
"Hi. I'm Avery. Avery Gray." Avery gave the group a half smile.xx

Name Name| MENTIONINGSummer had been rather uneventful except for turning a year older and lounging around in Kyōto, or going on horse rides around home. However, now Summer Camp was here and Jun had truly worked hard along with the rest of the Planning Committee to create an original theme and make camp somewhat exciting. Whether they had succeeded at that would show throughout camp.
This morning however, Jun wanted to at least try not to worry about logistics, the next month working out, or anything else regarding planning really. Instead, she walked beside her best friend and cousin, Trunk levitating after her and the girl’s trusted satchel on her shoulder. There was a fresh summer breeze ruffling through her tied up hair, feet in elegant sneakers hitting the gravel with each step. Jun felt quite different returning to Hogwarts this year. Some would perhaps find the new air of confidence surrounding the now third year, which had wavered strongly in her second year. Especially at the end of last year, Jun had struggled with a severe sense of loneliness. While she still would not call herself particularly social, Jun was far more content with her abilities to approach and communicate.
A lot could change in just a couple months.
When Mey spoke, Jun could not hold back the smile that slipped onto her lips as her cousin brought together her thumb and index finger. This Summer had brought changes for Meyra too and Jun was quite glad her cousin seemed so happy after all that had been going on. “I am not supposed to! Merlin you wouldn’t believe how hard this has been to keep from you!” Keeping secrets was not usually something the two of them practiced. Anything big in their lives was normally discussed over tea, hushed giggles or long letters. Summer Camp planning had truly tested the Ravenclaw’s strength regarding concealment.
However, Meyra and everyone else attending would soon enough find out what had been prepared for the coming month. Upon approaching the area in which the blackboard — that provided the cabin groups and Departments — stood, Jun recognised most of the names in their group. “Cursa… guy with red-orangy hair?” She questioned in return to what her cousin had asked. The Japanese girl did not recall speaking to him but his last name made it very clear to whom he belonged.
They made their way toward the cabins, which Jun was particularly pleased with. The design choices had been something she’d enjoyed going through and finalising and the cabins had turned out mostly how she wanted them to. The Department of Magical Law Enforcement was also a Department she found fitting for both Mey and herself.. she could very well see both of them working there in the future and stepping into their Families reputation there. Her father had always shared what he could of his work as Auror, the training and schooling needed. There was no doubt in her that Meyra and her were smart enough.
Once they arrived at their destination on the campgrounds, Jun let Meyra step in first. A smile had spread across her lips as she watched her cousin walk in, when the wheels of her friend’s luggage got caught. Jun was about to reach out and help, but it was too late and Mey tumbled forward. It was a rather amusing sight to watch, only because there was no way she’d hurt herself, just make quite the entrance. “Pfff— are you that eager to—“ Jun started with a small snort of laughter, only to step closer to the door and catch sight of her cousin in the arms of some tall dude. The smile was wiped right off her face as the scene unfolded right in front of Jun.
The guy who had caught her best friend in her little stumble was tall, awfully Nordic looking — Swedish or Norwegian maybe? Definitely a Durmstrang student — and had a far too charming smile on his lips, at least for the Ravenclaw’s taste. Mey blushed and finally freed herself from the guy as Jun stared at them in both appalled silence and a very knowing expression of what had just occurred to her best friend. She had never seen the Gryffindor act quite as speechless. Well, Mey was speaking but it seemed more like a ramble of words. He introduced himself as Vilhelm Hugo Djupandstierna which already sounded far too presumptuous for him not to be of some wealthy family and he certainly had the looks.. but something about him bothered her. Maybe it was the way he was staring at Mey.
Speaking of the brunette, she was currently looking at Jun in a ‘help me!!!’ way, which there was nothing that Jun would rather do. So she stepped in and shook Vilhelm’s hand too, clearing her throat. “Jun..” she started, “Mayumi Mochizuki. Don’t call me that though, just Jun..” the Ravenclaw added and pulled her hand back. He set his Satchel down and turned back around, only to as whether they attended Hogwarts. “Yes, we do. Third year now. Where are you from, you sound rather.. Scandinavian? So Durmstrang I’d presume?” One thing Jun had become accustomed to was simply talking when a situation was odd. This was odd.
Vilhelm had just offered to take their luggage off of them when another voice appeared within the group. It took one look over her shoulder to find a blonde-brunnette-ish girl behind them, causing Jun to move out of the way. So did Vilhelm, whether that was out of politeness or Jun’s clear body language wasn’t given. “Hello Mira. My name’s Jun. That is actually a great suggestion.” A smile had settled on the Japanese girl’s lips again and she found herself reaching for her best friend’s arm, turning her gaze back to her. “Should we perhaps put our stuff in one of the rooms beforehand?” There was no way Jun would share a room with another person but Mey for the whole month.
Just then another person entered, a guy this time. Dark hair, familiar face.. wasn’t he in Ravenclaw? Jun was about to say hello to him too — a part of what she disliked from social interactions, repeated introductions and hello’s and smiling at strangers that she had no desire to smile at. However, she was saved from that by a girl walking in and greeting Mikey. That was Avery Gray, at least one person that Jun could surely say she had seen in classes and around Hogwarts before. When she introduced herself too, Jun once again directed her smile at them — Avery, some guy who stood by her and Mikey — “Hello! Nice to meet you, I am Jun. We just decided we should move further into the actual cabin instead of standing in the middle of the doorway,” she said kindly and hoped she wouldn’t have to repeat her name for the next 5 to 10 minutes at least.
