2025/2026 Stage 3 Hufflepuff vs Gryffindor: Match 2

It was as good as done now. Lindsey fell, Lea nearly followed with the explosions and the gust of wind that continued to expend her last bit of strength. It would be far safer to call it quits now, bow out and wait for her friends at the Hospital Wing. But after Lindsey stayed standing for so long, that sounded almost unfair.

"Thank you and a congratulations in advance." She nodded to each before extending her arm out once more, a little bit of fun for the road.

Morning Slot

Mere moments after the first semi-successful bout, Lea conjured another roiling thundercloud. Three striking bolts of lightning flashed in quick succession towards all three lions. Perhaps lacking the element of surprise this time, however, none would find their mark this time. Each Gryffindor dodged cleanly out of the way, and the piste gained another few scorch marks to show for Hufflepuff’s efforts. Nonethless targeted, no matter the success of such an attempt, Evelynn and Kim were already working together to incapacitate Lea as the clouds cleared once more. In a clean two-beat cooperation, a flashing Expelliarmus stripped the Hufflepuff of her wand, then the floor out from under her as Kim laboriously began to levitate her off the ground.

Well-covered by her teammates’ distractions and relatively safe from electricity, Rose turned her magic inward for a bit of healing. Yet what should have been a soothing balm over her aches and pains stung instead upon casting, far from its original intention. Despite personal harm, however, it was clear that Gryffindor had backed Lea up into a corner—a truly seiged stalemate, as clever and unfair as it was.

And indeed, their strategy hit the mark on both descriptions. Cassius did not even need to flip through his rulebook before raising a hand to pause the duel prematurely. ”I must say, and I apologise for the interruption but just to let you know now, it’s officially against the rules to attack a disarmed, levitated duellist when they are the only person still on the piste of their team.” Things could have been different if Lindsey were still up, but Lea didn’t have any means of defending herself anymore. ”A forfeit can be negotiated, or else you can drop her now or return her wand—those are your options, but we can’t allow both conditions at the same time.”

Ooc note: is that actually a rule? Body bind has it written in its description that they can't be targeted, but neither levitation or disarming charm do. I thought maybe this was a fringe event that had prompted new rules to be patched in, but it's not in the recent patch either.

It seemed as if Rose had been hurt worse than she'd originally thought because her attempt at healing herself went sideways and ended up causing her damage instead as Kim glanced over at her. "You alright?" He asked, sparing a look to the side. Eve's spell went off without a hitch like usual and made Lea's wand shoot away from her grasp as Kim's own spell levitated her into the air. He maintained his focus on keeping the spell active, turning his attention back to Lea. Lea's own spell Tempest had tried to make lightning strike them, a very good spell to think of but all the Lions managed to avoid it, which was a shame for her but good for them. Kim looked up at Lea who was still suspended in air from his spell. "Will you forfeit?"

He asked her, letting his eyes linger on Lea for a moment. "There would be no shame in doing so, as now it is impossible for you to win against us." He told her.

Everything had missed. It wasn't unexpected, the thunderstorm was more for show than anything, but it felt like her accuracy and their nimbleness had teamed up in adding salt to the wound. That sentiment only grew when rather than merely knocking her out, as she knew the Gryffindors were quite capable of doing considering her two teammates, they decided to drag this out. Her judgement clouded, anger rising as she realized her humiliation was the new duel. And for what? Because they had decided there was more fun in continuing? And so the lions decided to pressure test that theory until Lea wanted to scream.

"I am aware," she bit out, "of the situation I am currently in." His gaze met her glare in response, before she shifted her gaze to blankly stare at Evelynn. "And certainly no one wants to watch that." And so she had offered her final decision, not yet neatly wrapped with the proper bow to end things. That was one nice thing about being levitated without the pressure of getting hit, she could take some time to calm down- as much as the Sixth Year could while staring down at those who put her in this predicament.

"Didn't realize I was fighting the snakes today-," she muttered before declaring, "I forfeit. Now if you could let me down so I can check on my teammates." If given the opportunity, Lea was quick to leave the piste with a "good game" tossed over her shoulder, now mainly directed towards Rose.

With Kim still resolutely holding Lea in the air at wand-point, Evelynn was content to bide the duel’s little time left with a final burst of healing. Episkey, powerful though it was, was an arguably rare support spell on the piste for its high skill requirement, but there remained no greater exemplar of technical magical achievement than a duellist at the cusp of graduation. Both Rose and Kim would feel refreshed, the former still staring passively at their caught opponent.

By all technicalities, Gryffindor was forbidden to attack Lea, but a mutual agreement had settled upon the lions despite that. So used to duelling’s steady path towards aggression and truthfully incapable of correcting his senior even for the ‘little snake’ nickname, Cassius could only stand back and wait as terms were begrudgingly ‘negotiated’. Lea’s hand was being forced, and the moment that she announced her forfeit, proper arrangements put her back on her feet without fanfare. She left quickly, the Hufflepuff side of the piste now completely empty save for rubble thrown across its surface.

“Alright then, um…” Cassius began hesitantly before shaking off the palpable awkwardness that had stilled the duel’s once-explosive action. “With that, that is a win towards Gryffindor. Please, a round of applause for our duellists and a genuine congratulations to our almost-graduates for sharing their last stage with us! I wish you all the best. For those returning next year, have a good summer!”

Thank you, everyone, for showing up and lasting through the duel despite the brown Adult role relieving many of you from Hogwarts’ burdens! A late congratulations to everyone who graduated over the course of the duel, and I hope to see great things between your 2nd generation and any adult plans you may or may not have. For the rest, there’s still work to be done, but I have full faith that you’ll succeed in whatever you set your mind to.
