Sitting by the lake, with a book in hand, enjoying the cool summer breeze. What better way to relax than this. I was seated beneath a tree, engrossed in "A Study in Scarlet", one of my favourite Sherlock Holmes stories. I lived for the thrill that these books gave me. It was something that reality proved to be useless at. Of course, the incidents that happened in the wizarding world are no less thrilling and bone chilling than the stories I read, but I find living the suspense offered by fiction to be far better.
Indulged between these pages, I always found a new version of myself, sometimes someone whom I wished to be; sometimes someone whom I already was, but hidden beneath layers I'd built over. Amidst these pages, I couldn't be tamed, my mind felt... Free. There were no external expectations to live up to. Nothing I needed to uphold. I couldn't be judged, I just needed to exist and be myself.
I've always wanted to be a detective, especially because of two people- Sherlock Holmes, and Miss Jane Marple. I loved those characters and wanted to be smart, fearless, confident, and persistent just like them. I smiled as I read a line in my book, "There's the scarlet thread of murder running through the colourless skein of life, and our duty is to unravel it, and isolate it, and expose every inch of it." Wow, just wow! That's exactly what a great detective must do. That description is quite fascinating indeed.
Suddenly, I heard a vivacious laughter. I turned my head to spot a girl with beautiful blue eyes and brown hair, who looked my age. She clamped her hand over her mouth as she suppressed her laughter. She also seemed to be reading. Then I noticed her book, it was also "A Study in Scarlet". Oh my god! We're reading the same book! I held up my book for her to see and smiled brightly. I walked towards her and said, "Heyy, looks like we're reading the same book. How great is that! I chuckled slightly before adding, "I'm Avery, what's your name?"
Thank You Sherlock

WC: 249~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~The girl introduced herself as Kennedy. She quickly added that the book was on her TBR for ages, and that she'd just started it. I replied, "That's cool, Kennedy. It's a re-read for me though, it's one of my favourites." I watched as she dog eared her book. She suddenly gasped and glanced back at me. It took me a few seconds to realise why she'd gasped. I'd first thought she'd realised something about the plot, a clue perhaps, that always somehow seemed to happen to me. But it was because she'd dog eared her book. A lot of readers often didn't like dog earing books, and I was not one of those readers. I pretty much picked up the habit from my grandma and my dad. I added, "Don't worry, I dog ear my books too. I've hardly ever used bookmarks, unless it's one of those strings that come attached with the spine.
I sat down next to her, the grass slightly tickling my ankles. I spoke to her, "So, what genre do you enjoy reading the most? I love mysteries, but I'd probably go for fantasies as well. I usually read muggle books though, I'm not quite familiar with wizard authors. One thing that I loved about muggles was how they didn't even need magic to do most of the things wizards did. In my eyes, even muggles had magic, just a different kind than us, and that magic was always beautifully expressed through art and literature.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ReducioOOC: Thank you so much for your patience. My schedule's still a bit hectic, so my replies might be slow, sorry
