It was a lovely summer afternoon, the perfect time to take a walk by the lake. Fawkes took a deep breath of fresh air as she went towards the lake. It was beautiful and peaceful with a gentle breeze in the air. The leaves of the trees swayed slightly in the wind. She watched it with a smile on her face as she approached the water.

She leaned down and dipped her hand into the lake. The water was nice and cold despite the heat of the sun hitting it all day. Maybe she could do some light reading here. She had brought one of her astronomy books along with her to read somewhere and what better place than by the lake. She stood back up and reached for a bag to pull out her book. That's when her world suddenly began to spin. A few seconds later-

SPLASH. She found herself in the water. She immediatly started panicking. She didn't know how to swim, she barely used to go into large bodies of water to begin with. Her head came out of the water only to go back down again. She was struggling to breathe as she felt the water enter her lungs.

HELP was all she managed to yell before she was under again. When she was able to come up again, she vaguely noticed two figures where she stood. The blue and green robes were unmistakable. There was a Ravenclaw and Slytherin student over there. So why wouldn't they help her? She was clearly struggling.

Then it hit her. They were the ones who pushed her in. She felt herself go under again. This time however, her strenght was completely exhausted. She couldnt pull herself up anymore. She saw the edges of her vision slowly turning black. Was this how she died? At the young age of 12? What did she do to deserve such a fate? She always tried her best to be kind and helpful to everyone. So why was she pushed into the lake?

Her vision was near black now. She closed her eyes terrified. The faces of her family flashed through her mind. Then came her friends..... She wasn't going to see them again. And no one would know why. Would she just be left here? At the bottom of the lake? Her mind went blank.

Cecilia often indulged in leisurely walks near the Great Lake. It helped clear her mind after failing to use it properly. All she really wanted to do was indulge in a sweet treat whilst basking in the summer sun.

The breeze caressed her skin and the sweet melody of the birds soothed her. What a perfect day.

She had been enjoying the last bites of her strawberry over cream popsicle with a bounce in her step when she heard a loud, distant splash.

“Ugh,” she groaned and let out a deep sigh. It wasn’t unusual for students to take a swim in the Great Lake during summer. However, she had no interest in wasting her precious time on handing out detention. Out of sight, out of mind. Right?

At least she thought so, until an audible yell reached her ears shortly after. Instinctively, Cecilia glanced over her shoulder to see a student flailing about in the water. Next thing she knew, they were under.

For a moment, her gaze shifted between the unfinished popsicle and the drowning student. Admittedly, it took longer than a fraction of a second for any sense of morality to kick in, but she got there eventually.

Oh forget the bloody popsicle!

Clutching her robes, Cecilia ran as fast as she towards the lake. When she neared the edge, common sense finally kicked in as she removed her outer robe right before diving in.

The water was murky, but she had a vague sense of where the student had fallen. Swimming deeper and deeper, Cecilia quietly hoped that no creature would be disturbed by their presence. By Merlin’s grace, she soon reached the girl.

With her arms hooked underneath the girl's, Cecilia swam to the surface as quickly as she could. Ensuring that her head stayed above water was a challenge given her mediocre stamina, but she did her best. At the same time, she began kicking her feet until they reached the lakeside.

It took all (4) of her (notable lack of) strength to pull the girl out and lay her on the grass. Cecilia then leaned closer, with her ear a few centimetres from the girl’s nose to check whether she was still breathing. It was difficult to say, perhaps her breath was too shallow or her ears were blocked from the deep dive. Either way, Cecilia then grabbed her shoulders and shook her gently.

“Hey, are you okay?! Give me a sign!”

Her auburn curls were now completely drenched and flattened, with water droplets dripping slowly from the ends and her eyes were filled with pure terror. What was she to do if the girl gave no response?

It was cold. Well that was to be expected the water was freezing. But it wasn't like icy cold. It was closer to a more bone chilling kind of cold. The kind one would normally feel in winter. However it wasn't winter. It was the middle of summer. Why was it so cold?

Oh right..... She was pushed into the lake..... Hardly an exciting experience for someone who didn't know how to swim. But she was no longer sinking. Had she reached the bottom? But she didn't feel water around her either. How strange. Perhaps she had already passed on from this life? But then why was it cold? Shouldn't it be warm?

The she felt shaking. Why was she shaking? Was someone shaking her? She had so many questions and no answers for them. For someone who was so incredibly curious, she hated the fact she didn't have any answers for her questions. Why ask questions if they can't be answered? But maybe there is lies her answer. Questions are asked regardless of whether one can get an answer or not. Cause that meant at least you attempted to solve the mystery.

She felt the water at the back of her throat. She could feel it moving up thanks to the shaking. A few seconds later, she opened her mouth and began coughing violently as the water began to leave her lungs. With whatever little strength she had, she moved her hand to cover her mouth as she coughed. She may have almost died but that didn't mean she had to forget her manners.

She took a breath. Fresh air filled her lungs this time. She had to breathe in and out a few more times before she felt a bit stronger. She opened her eyes to see a girl staring right at her. She had this terrified look in her eyes. Why was she scared? Fawkes wasn't scary, was she? At least, she hoped she wasn't.

She has lovely curls was the first thing Fawkes thought about when she saw her. Who was the girl? She had no idea. Maybe she was the one who pulled her out of the lake? But at the same time she didn't look like she had the strength to pull her out. But of course, looks can be deceiving as well.

Uhm hello? She said. Her voice wasn't clear. Probably cause of the amount of water she swallowed. W-who are you? She asked making sure to lower her voice to her vocal chords didn't hurt further.

It truly was quite cold today.

The girl was ghostly pale and cold to the touch. Although her pulse felt weak, it was reassuring to see that she regained conscious. Had Cecilia been a moment too soon…

The sudden violent expulsion of water from her lungs quickly interrupted that train of thought. Cecilia fell silent for a moment, slightly taken aback by what was happening. Whilst it was a good sign, the sight was simply so… grisly. Still, for the girl’s sake, she refrained from grimacing whilst patting her back in hopes of assisting. Merlin knows if she was actually being useful, but the attempt could provide them both with shared delusions of comfort.

Somehow, the well-mannered girl garnered enough strength to cover her mouth whilst coughing. If a drowning victim could have such decency, what excuse did others have for failing to? She digressed.

When their gazes finally met, Cecilia’s expression softened as a sense of relief washed over her. She was fine. Well. Perhaps ‘fine’ seemed like a stretch given her state, but she was — at the very least — responsive.

Then came her question.

“Cecilia,” she answered quietly. “I’m a pref—,” she began, wincing at how obnoxious it almost sounded to her. “Healer intern,” she quickly corrected herself. Amongst other things, she mentally added. The last thing she would want to hear after a near death experience is something mouthing off about their titles.

Despite the urge to ask more questions of her own, Cecilia knew that the first priority was helping her regain some warmth. She rose briefly to reach for her school robe then quickly returned to her side.

“Here, take this,” she insisted and began draping it around the girl’s shoulders. Alas, her hair was still dripping wet. Cecilia was fairly certain there was some spell that would be more effective, but she had no clue what it was. This would simply have to do for now.

Given that this was her first — and hopefully the last — time dealing with a drowning victim, delicate approach seemed reasonable. However, Cecilia feared that beating around the bush could lead to more harm than good if she required further treatment; something that only the nurse could provide.

“What’s your name?” Cecilia asked cautiously. “Do you know where you are or… what happened to you?”

Cecilia. She has pretty hair. Those were the only thoughts Fawkes could form with her oxygen deprived brain. Ceci- She began, trying to repeat the girl's name before she started coughing again. Her hand went up to cover her mouth again as she coughed. She groaned and rubbed her eyes before looking back at the other girl.

She suddenly felt a warmth around her. It had helped her stop trembling.... Since when was she trembling? Thanks she mumbled pulling the robe around her tighter. Was it just her or were the Slytherin robes warmer than her own were normally? Probably was just her. They probably just felt warmer cause she was freezing.

So the girl was a healer intern? Made sense she knew how to help Fawkes out then. Im.... Fawkes... she replied, her voice just as soft as Cecilia's was. Im an Astronomy Intern and a duelling captain for Ravenclaw, she added mentally. She still wasn't quite used to the role yet so she refrained from mentioning it. I dont... I don't remember much. That was true, the last thing she saw was two people, one in blue and one in green. I think someone pushed me in? she continued glancing around.

Ah everything was blurry.... Have you uh by chance seen my glasses? She asked sheepishly.
