I’m sorry, school really is so silly, wdym I have to go to a building for almost 8 hours and learn about dozens of things I’ll never use. Like school develops so much anxiety in children but they are so afraid of failing. I know it’s impacted me a lot because it feels like you’re preparing your entire life to get into a different school to then work your life away just so you can be called successful. I have a lot more to say on the topic but I’m not gonna write a 10 pages essay right now

Very true! My school is a university prep private school too, so it’s a lot harder than public school and making all A’s (only had two B’s total so far) is super difficult, but somehow I’ve managed. Though extreme burnout hits me hard and makes me not want to do anything. This year is so much easier since I only have two core classes. :)

tbf there are kids who really want careers connected to the 'core' subjects- Reading, English, Math, Science, History...

It would be a lot harder to start those careers without any foundational knowledge. I don't think school itself is the problem; I think the issue is how long we stay stuck in the same subjects.

Like.. I already spent 12 years doing the "core classes" in school only to turn around and do the exact same classes in college because it was required and classified as a "common core". At some point it feels less like learning and more like repeating the same cycle. (btw, every criminal justice class I've taken repeat the exact same points in a cycle so it's just.. idk I felt even a degree was pointless if it was going to repeat.)

I think school is fine in general, but not every class needs to be required for every student. Some classes are interesting or useful and people take them because they want to, but others are required even when they don't fit a student's interests or future goals. For example, in my high school, we had classes like "bible study", psychology, health science, criminal justice, etc.

I wouldn't ahve chosen bible study or psychology because they weren't things I cared about but they were choices that counted towards specific credits that counted towards your graduation.

I feel school has value, but I really think the structure could be better. Not everything needs to drag into college, nor does every student need teh exact same set of classes to be successful.

If I had to choose things that I want to see revamped or overhauled, it's literally these three things because I see problems in all of them and I know it causes stark opinions because people feel so strongly about it.
1) Government - not going into details
2) School - sort of explained but not the full thought process
3) Corrections - for the love of god why retribution why not rehabilitation!

I just gotta say I took the exact same math class like three times. (Only because it was Algebra 2, Advanced Algebra, and College Algebra). I’m not even taking a math class anymore because I’m like, I’ve learned this stuff three times over. I think I know what I’m doing and I mean, I got a decently high score on the math section and overall ACT, so no use to take more.
