An Unusual Duel
Apparently, Silas was so focused on his sadistic desire to watch the suffering that he forgot to actually focus on casting his spell properly. Karma clearly had ideas for him today, since his own spell proceeded to, quite literally, blow up in his face. It knocked him back with more force than he expected, feeling like he had been punched hard. Well, now he knew what he was attempting to inflict on the other person. Yeah, that should work. A couple of those on top of the damage she had already sustained, and she should be out cold.
He had stumbled back when hit, but he regained his footing quickly — remarkably quickly, in fact. A particularly observant eye might notice the practiced ease with which he did it, though whether they would actually suspect the reasons behind it was another question. Nevertheless, he resumed his duelling stance, readying himself for his next spell, which would hopefully be far more successful than this one. It would be pretty hard, if not impossible, for it to be worse, after all. “You should just give up already,” he said flatly to the opponent, though he wasn’t sure he even wanted that. He’d much prefer to have the satisfaction of seeing her get knocked out. But a little demoralisation for her wouldn’t hurt him — far from it.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━sta 06|eva 05| str 03| wis 08| arc 07| acc 06━━━━━━Prodigal Astronomy Learner━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━This was getting tiring now. She didn't know how much longer she would last with this duel. She was getting exhausted. And it was starting to show in her movements. She just hoped that her opponents wouldn't notice that fact.
She had fired Flipendo at Silas again. It was the strongest spell she knew so she thought might as well use it. At best she knocked the boy down. At worst? She hit herself with the spell. But at this rate she couldn't bring herself to care about that fact. She watched as the Slytherin just barely dodged the spell. Shoot She said to herself.
She didn't have time to rest as another Flipendo was sent her way by the older Ravenclaw. She quite literally almost fell over trying to dodge as fast as she could. She took a deep breath to steady herself. She couldn't falter. Not now. Not ever.
She watched as Silas had the unfortunate experience of having his Flipendo cast backfire. She knew the pain. It had happened to her before. Her head snapped up as she heard the words that left the boy's mouth. You should just give up. Perhaps she should have listened. Perhaps she should have just forfeited. It would save her from further harm. But something stopped her. Was is a sense of pride? She could hear a small voice tell her not to give up. Was it her own voice? Perhaps it was. That small bit of pride she held being a duelling captain. Though there wasn't anyone around, she was still going to hold her head high and set an example, to show that she wasn't going to give up, to show why exactly she loved the sport.
Never Norwood, she retorted lifting her wand again. She never called her peers by their last name. It was something she avoided as much as possible. But at that moment, it felt necessary. It felt necessary to show her opponents that their words were not going to affect her.Action: as strategised.

Denise must have felt horrible for Vetra. She had to watch again, as her spell missed Chaos, AGAIN.
Again, again, again.
How long is this going to take? Denise thought sadly.
It was a duel; it was a duel where everyone was using Flipendo, hoping to run into lunch. She was hungry indeed.
If Denise heard another Flipendo, she would lose her mind.
Crack!
At least Chaos and Norwood did something; Chaos was able to knock Norwood down hard, and it looked like it would take a while for Norwood to stand up. Norwood, at the same time, aimed a Flipendo at Chaos as well, knocking her down, but she was able to get up quickly.
Either way, both first-years were at their wits' end, looking like they would pass out any moment from another Flipendo. Everyone was tired, and perhaps even wanted to attack Denise so they could go off to feast in the Great Hall.
"Looks like Vetra missed her spell... again, but look, Chaos and Norwood hit with a Flipendo again, and it looks like Norwood would be taking a while to stand back up!"
Perhaps Chaos might get her revenge by KOing Norwood; Vetra was an impossible feat, remaining undamaged and untouched.

| _ | A brief moment of apprehensive surprise overtook her when she heard the words disseminated from the boy beside her. To give up. A long, sideway glance was cast toward his direction. Wherever was the sportsmanship? Ebony had played in sports for long enough such that she came to respect the unspoken rules of the game; the respect that must be given to opponents, the respect for the resilience that all players showed. The younger boy didn’t seem to have grasped such a concept yet — maturity would catch up to him, eventually. She, too, was becoming increasingly frustrated, however, at the fact that this annoyingly quick first year had yet to fall — and frustration was not the best for one’s accuracy. Ebony couldn’t quite seem to focus; though the spell itself was cast decently, the aim — the wand movement — was not precise enough, arm somewhat shaking as she attempted to direct the spell toward the Ravenclaw girl. It was thus unsurprising she was able to dodge again with an ease that was infuriating. The opponent appeared quite drained already; Ebony could tell, even with minimal experience, that a hit or two should be enough to take her out. Truly a wonder how they had managed to misaim so many shots at such a fatigued opponent. Her own teammate was not faring so well either, now having been knocked onto the ground and appearing as though he was on the verge of passing out. |

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━sta 06|eva 05| str 03| wis 08| arc 07| acc 06━━━━━━Prodigal Astronomy Learner━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━She fired off Flipendo at Silas once again. For once, it seemed her wand was willing to co-operate. As the spell hit him, he fell over backwards. Score! For once, she felt like she had actually done something during the duel. Unfortunately for her he hadn't been knocked out but at the very least he wouldn't feasibly be able to attack her for a bit. So that meant she only had to worry about Ebony.
She had dodged Ebony's spell again. Honestly, she had no idea how she had dodged the older girl's spells so many times in a row. It was rather impressive honestly. The fact she had dodged as many spells as she did from a 5th year. She sadly missed seeing Silas' spell come flying at her. He must have been able to fire it off just before she knocked him down. She felt it hit her almost straight off her feet.
She was just barely standing at this point. Her vision was blurring. She knew she was going to faint soon. Maybe one more spell before that? But first she needed a minute for her head to stop spinning..... It wasn't stopping. Blindly, she lifted her wand once more just hoping that she could fire off one more spell successfully before she hit the floor.Action: as strategised.

An Unusual Duel
Content warning: Trauma-based mental health issues showing themselves fairly clearly, beginning in the second paragraph.
“Never, Norwood,” came the reply to Silas’s taunting suggestion that the girl should give up. He shrugged, unbothered. “Suit yerself.” He didn’t miss the look his teammate gave him, either, though he chose to ignore it. He raised his wand again, ready to put the opponent out of her misery, his eyes cold, but was wholly unprepared for what came next. It seemed his comment had only served to motivate the girl, who fired back at him with the strongest Knockback Jinx yet, right as he shot one of his own her way.
Despite hitting her as well, his was nothing compared to hers. It knocked him straight to the ground, taking his breath with it. He felt dizzy — close to passing out — and before he could stop it, panic started to set in, triggered by the similarity to previous situations he had been in. His breathing became shallow and quick, his arms subtly crossing across his body protectively. For a moment, he was frozen, unable to move, fighting the feeling of dread and impending doom. He felt too vulnerable, defenceless — like a little kid again. His eyes scrunched tightly shut, trying to block out the memories that threatened to overcome him, but it was worse in the dark. He opened his eyes again, needing to make sure that he was aware of any further danger.
Pain stung his body where he had fallen and where he had been hit, and he was close enough to unconsciousness that almost everything hurt, made worse by what he was being reminded of. His head spun and he was struggling to breathe properly. But there was no one standing over him this time, no one to keep him down — just a teammate waiting for him to get up, an opponent who needed to be finished off, and a moderator (at least theoretically) watching to make sure things didn’t go too far.
Still, Silas needed a break, needed to rest, needed to heal, but something deep inside him forbade him from surrendering. He had survived far worse than a few hits from a girl his age. So, whether it was because of some internal strength, the inability to let himself relax and get help, some twisted desire to keep feeling the pain, the voice in his head telling him to stop being weak, or simply stubborn pride, he dragged himself back to his feet and grasped his wand tightly, ready to aim it at the opponent once more.
