I'm Only Here for You
Rosie was nervous. In fact, one could probably say that she was more nervous than she had ever been in her entire life. And, believe it or not, what she was scared of was meeting a friend's family for the first time.Hey @Lauren Vanes! This is the starter to our thread, I'll format it later. If you want anything changed at all or it to be longer or shorter or anything else, just let me know!
Did that sound like her? No, absolutely not. She was bubbly, outgoing, and always looked forward to meeting new people. That was the entire reason why she knew so many people, and was friends with the majority of them. She could definitely be considered an extrovert because of her willingness to just walk up to people and decide then and there that they will be friends, even if she has to continue politely pestering the other person until they agree.
However, today, Rosie was over at her friend Lauren's house, for a sleepover. Something that seemed at first simple and childish, as it should. However, Lauren's family were the Vanes, apparently a relatively rich and dark family, and also pretty terrifying. They'd hurt Lauren so badly throughout the years, and Rosie wasn't looking forward to knowing them. But, her friend needed her, so she was trying her very best to act brave, way braver than she felt.
In order to get to this point, walking through what she assumed were the grounds of the estate or manor or mansion or whatever it was that rich wizarding families called their big homes, she'd had to ditch her parents and manage to get from York to London. Which wasn't super easy, considering her mum and dad had been paying way more attention to her lately. Ever since she'd gotten home from school like a few days ago, they'd spent the majority of their time either talking to her, doting on her, or staring at each other in ways that looked very unhappy. Though Rosie didn't know what she'd missed exactly while at school, she knew that whatever it was must've been big and caused them to not get along very well.
Relax Rosie, she thought, it'll all be fine. Maybe they're just having a bit of a disagreement, but it'll be okay in just a bit.
Anyways, in order to escape her parents, she'd had to execute quite the elaborate plan. First of all, she convinced them to take her to some of her favourite shops in London, which got her just a bit closer to Lauren's house than she was from York. That was her step one, which she'd successfully completed, though the tension in the car during the 280-ish kilometer drive was nearly unbearable. She just distracted herself by crocheting on the way. Why in the world her parents took her was quite the mystery, but she assumed they'd just want to make a full day of it.
But, with step two of her plan, she would never be able to find out what they did with the rest of the day. While they were walking through the shops, she claimed to need to use the loo. She left a note for her parents before sneaking out of the shop and leaving them behind. The note read-
After she walked out of the shop super secretly, she grabbed the bag she'd stashed as they arrived inside of a potted plant, packed with all of the stuff that she'd need, and started walking. Since she was in London already, it luckily wasn't a huge distance to go. But she was very very tired when she finally reached some gates, which said 'Vane' on them, so that was definitely a good sign.Dear Mum and Dad,
It's Rosie, your one and only favourite daughter! Don't worry about me, I'm fine. I just left to go and have a sleepover with my friend. I didn't tell you because I knew that you're too protective of me to say no, but don't worry! It'll go great because I know this friend really well and we're just going to do normal girl stuff, no danger at all. I love you all and please don't worry, I know you were planning on staying here overnight so just come and pick me up here tomorrow!
Love,
Rosie-Posie!
And there she was, standing at the big door, as she worked up what little courage she'd saved up throughout the journey to knock on the door. After a minute of just pathetically standing there, she finally raised up her fist, and gave a tiny little 'knock knock' at the door.
After a minute of waiting, she was sure that nobody had heard it. Which was to be expected with the sheer meekness of the sound, though she'd still hoped that Lauren was waiting near the door for her and would have heard the tapping.
Alright, I've got this, she thought as she raised up her hand again and gave a louder bang at the door.
When there was once again no answer, she assumed that she'd found the wrong door. Therefore, she needed to go and see if she could find another place to knock on, because maybe this was the back door or something of the sort.
Because of the conclusion she'd made, she left the porch and began to walk around the property. The place was absolutely huge, intimidating her even further, which she hadn't even considered possible. Admittedly, she found the place scary, yes, but also a tad bit beautiful.
Don't forget, Rosie, these are the people that have hurt Lauren so badly and made her feel as if she is worthless and evil just for existing she reminded herself, wanting to make sure that she was in the right mindset for this upcoming encounter. She was at the place for her friend and nothing else, just to see her and make sure that she was okay and have a sleepover with her.
My parents are so going to kill me the second that they hopefully come to pick me up in the shop tomorrow…but hey, at least I'll get to see my friend!
"Lauren? Hey, Lauren, are you out here? Please please please be out here, I don't want to have to knock again" she said while wandering through the maze-like grounds, hoping that the universe took pity on her and made it so that she didn't have to meet Lauren's parents, or her siblings, at the moment.

The memories came back to her. Her aunt persuading her to abide by her family's wishes and reconcile with them a month ago. The detention at Hogwarts -- how Rosalyn Willows, someone she thought of as a friend, had in her twisted mind believed that Lauren Vanes was planning to kill her. She rolled her eyes. Even if she wanted to kill someone, she wouldn't do it to her friends. She knew that she was stupid, she was evil, she was the worst person (with the exception of her family) who ever lived. And she still had to bear it.
The voices came to her mind again. You're worthless! You don't deserve the amazing Rosalyn Willows as a friend! You don't deserve how well she treats you! You don't deserve ANYTHING from her! Nor do you deserve any joy! You brought sadness, hatred and anger to this world! Your family would never have hated if you had never been bored, or if you haven't been a damned Parselmouth or burn that bedside table! She cast a sideway glance at the small table on her right, the corners of it still singed and blackened.
You see? You're nothing! You're nothing but a horrid creature filled with anger and hate! You've no right to interfere with other people's lives or to befriend them! Every soul is a soul tortured to have to see your damned physical form every day! No wonder everyone hates you! You deserve it! You should be hated! They're right! Maybe you should even apologise, it's just that they'll probably throw you out of the window if you dare show your face to them again, but you deserve it! I wish you were never born!
She did, indeed. She hated herself more than anything in this world, except perhaps the Vanes family. Nothing would outweigh the hate she felt for them, the burning desire to rid them of everything they held dear and destroy them and cast them into the depths of the Chamber of Secrets, where she stuck her face to the only place where there was light and tell them that they would feel the torture she felt for all those years.
But you deserved it!
They do more than you do! The Vanes family treated you like shit. Even if you were a piece of shit at first, they shouldn't have been so mean! Maybe they're just manipulating you to think all this! But nobody would know -- you wouldn't, at the very least! Because you're too stupid to know! If you hadn't been born, then they would never have to feel your hatred and be constantly reminded of it -- Her thoughts were cut off, then the voices in her mind changed to words of positivity. I'm so glad that you were born now! If you hadn't been born now, those dimwits would never have to face your wrath! And they deserve it! You showed them their true colours, and they should be grateful to you for that. They will never know your pain until they feel it for themselves. That's why you're here. To be the daughter who will always oppose them, no matter the cost!
Her lips curled into a thin smile, almost like that of the cresent moon showing itself timidly beneath the sky of blue and purple. Her heart lightened at the view, her attention subsequently diverted. She gazed at the setting sun and the warmth it radiated, and smiled. But her smile went upside-down as she remembered reality.
I'll never be able to radiate warmth. I was never born for that. I was always hate. And anger. And just a plain nobody who experienced childhood trauma, which led to this mess. If only it could be prevented! I'd give anything for that now. To be honest, I didn't even deserve that treatment from my family! What did I even do? Being a Parselmouth was completely out of my control! And that bedside table was just a result of me performing magic! It's their fault that I was treated like this! Maybe tons of other Hogwarts kids also did this and were unconditionally loved and supported! My family should be no different!
Her first year had been the definition of 'inconsistent feelings'. She didn't even know why. At times, she hated herself, wished that she didn't exist, and just wanted to die and disappear. She doubted whether she was right about how she hated her family, questioned why she hated them, and thought of herself as the true enabler of this mess. This had brought her immense quilt that she most certainly did not enjoy coping with. She had felt as if she deserved every single bit of the torture that was directed at her. Perhaps it was because she had done quite questionable things in a moral sense in the past year -- a lot, indeed.
She had just hated herself. She wanted to torture and punish herself further for what happened. Because it was satisfying to blame someone and gain the control of serving justice, even if the punishment was directed at herself. As far as she was concerned, no sane person would ever think that. She sighed. Why can't I just be a normal twelve-year-old for once, a child who just loves her friends, her grades, and experiences new things? Why does this all have to stop me from having a real life? Why?
Then this was her other side. She wanted revenge. She believed that she didn't deserve being treated like shit by her family, as she would often describe it as. She wanted to make her family suffer just as much as she did, and vowed to dedicate her life into torturing her damned family. Every piece of her heart and soul will be for that. Torture, and the inflictment of pain. It felt... more satisfying than doing it to herself. Because her family had caused all this... in her current state of mind, they did.
She laced her bedsheets between her fingers, and smiled at the white. Her past year was dark, if not black. She suddenly remembered the time she played chess in the Slytheirn Common Room, spent almost a day choosing between black and white, and finally chose black because it matched more with her personality. She wished that she had chosen white; it would have given her an advantage as she had found out that white was the first team to move their pieces. Her family had never played chess with her, ever, because as always, she was the unwanted, neglected daughter who her family would very much love to kill. Kill, as in destroying her soul and essence, not in the literal sense.
That was minor. There was a lot of major things in life that Lauren regretted... more, much more than that. Getting an 'A'. She grimaced at the thought. Receiving aunt Loratrix's letter, even though she couldn't exactly control it. Vandalising the portraits. That tanked her reputation and landed her in detention with the Headmaster, who probably hated her. All thanks to Arianna and Felix. She rolled her eyes. They had been the source of her misery for the year, and why she had begged for the sorting hat not to land her in Ravenclaw.
She smirked as she recalled how she had recieved the Howler from her parents about her house. That had been entirely her siblings' fault by snitching to her parents, but the young Slytherin couldn't expect any less. If they were going to cover up for her, Lauren might as well be in a fairytale.
But it had all been rather embarrassing. If it hadn't been for her friend, Rosie (why did her thoughts always lead to that girl?)'s comfort, the day would have turned out to be one of the worst in Lauren's history. Something decided to push itself up to her throat, and the Slytherin didn't want to think anymore. It was just like some acidic liquid threatening to throw itself out of her mouth to ruin her thoughts.
Somehow, she was glad that her thoughts were interrupted. The Slytherin really wouldn't like to spend the rest of the evening dwelling on the happenings of the day and the awkward interaction with Rosie. She had enough to worry about for the future, and the young Slytherin did not especially like to ruin her otherwise fine evening by her own accord. So far, neither her father Astote; her mother, Sabrina; her brother, Felix; her sister, Arianna; her aunt, Loratrix; her cat, Blaze disturbed her.
As she thought of Blaze, a pang of resentment flooded her veins, sending waves of hatred across her mind. She wished that the family cat had died in her accidental conjuration of fire when she was six. That tomcat had been the source of her miseries. If Blaze hadn't decided to claw her arm until it bled out like it held hell in it, Lauren needn't have suffered so much because of her family. Arianna wouldn't have snuck the snake into her present box in a spiteful attempt to rid of her by snake venom. And her being a Parselmouth would have been kept secret. Even she, Lauren, would not have known about it.
That was the life she wanted to have. The life of an ordinary child, the happiness of socialisation, the pressure, self-loathing, and doubts lifted off her shoulders. That would have been the life she craved. Many would call her ambitious, but in terms of goals, expectations and desires, she was pretty much the opposite of that. The Slytherin had longed for being normal, yet intelligent and being a master of magic. She was, indeed, a natural perfectionist.
Without the torture, without the suffering, without the trauma, she would've been a Ravenclaw. She wouldn't have craved for revenge so much, because there would have been nothing to get back at. She wouldn't have been that ambitious as to wish to surpass her siblings. She could've loved her family, then sighed as the memories flooded her mind. She had been loved when she was four or five. She was the favourite. She was the golden child. Her siblings had looked up to her. Her parents had bought her every book she wanted. She had been happy... genuinely happy. And innocent.
Unfortunately, that was the opposite of the current her, and Lauren Vanes would hzve to learn to cope with that. Cursing reality, the Slytheirn decided to get off her bed and paced around her room. She really needed a break in sitting down, and from her experience she found out that walking while thinking was easier than sitting while thinking.
That theory was proved true yet again as Lauren remembered that the friend who kept appearing in her thoughts -- the friend who comforted her twice; once in the Slytheirn Common Room and once in the Hogwarts Grounds -- was coming to her house today. And she knew that her family would shoo them both out. Yet the Slytherin had long admitted that she would not survive a day with six demonic creatures in her house, creatures who have allied together and would love to see her suffer. Her father. Her mother. Her brother. Her sister. Her aunt. And her cat.
She tiptoed towards the front door, careful not to disturb her family, who were seemingly in their respective rooms. Good. Lauren really didn't needed anything bad to happen that day, especially not when she was worn out from thinking. And she had already embarrassed herself enough times in front of that girl. Today, she vowed to herself, I will not do that again.
She peered outwards from the window, and realised with a jolt that Rosie was wandering around both the exterior and the interior of the Vanes manor. The Vanes family was quite well-known in the wizarding world; surely her friend should be able to recognise how it looked like? Then she remembered that Rosie was a muggle-born, and suppressed a sigh. Really, she didn't get how muggle-borns were permitted into Hogwarts. They had no knowledge of magic beforehand. The admittance was all in the name of an instance of magic.
Still, the Slytherin couldn't exactly argue with it, as Rosie had done quite well in her academics, yet the Slytherin could bet that it wasn't as well as Lauren. Then she remembered the 'A', and sighed in frustration. She still hated herself for it. Then she looked outside again, saw that her friend was stupidly wandering between the numerous fronds of green (why was it green, the Vanes family clearly rejected that colour and would have gladly turned every plant located one metre from the manor blue). Whatever. Lauren didn't want to care about her family's decisions. Besides, she adored green.
Then she heard a voice, similar to that of Rosie's. "Lauren? Hey, Lauren, are you out here? Please please please be out here, I don't want to have to knock again," it had said. Lauren felt a wave of guilt wash through her as she realised that she had been too intent on her thoughts that she had completely forgotten about Rosie and her pleas for the door to be opened. Such a simple task. And Lauren, stupid and worthless and pathetic as she was (or so she thought), had failed to do it.
She sighed in dismay as she found that Rosie had left the door, and put on her fluffy green slippers. She walked out of the front door, cautiously checking that no one was behind her, and closed the door behind her, ever so gently -- which was quite unlike her, given her violent nature. Yet she didn't want to be found out; Merlin knew what would happen if her family caught her during her act. No, she attempted to reassure herself, they're stupid. You're smarter.
Lauren herself wasn't quite sure.
But there was no more time to argue with the voices in her mind, and the young Slytherin had to get a move on, unless she wanted Rosie to give up on the search and walk right out of the front door. She quickened her pace, outstretching her arm in hope to catch her friend, realised that she was too far away, then decided that she would have to execute another plan. She ran away from her house, far enough so that her family in her house wouldn't hear her voice, but close enough to ensure that Rosie, who seemed nearby, would.
"Rosie! I'm here!" Just as she shouted it, Rosie seemed to come closer into view. Relieved, Lauren panted and ran towards her, her harms outstretched, tired but excited -- rare, considering her current mental state. Normally, in the holidays, she was depressed or angry or full of hatred. She pushed the thought away, and focused her attention on Rosie and Rosie alone. "I... searched... everywhere... for... you..." she said. "Did you get lost again?"

I'm Only Here for You
To be formatted later! @Lauren Vanes, let me know if you want anything changed!
I really, really don't want to be lost out here right now.
What if it's one of her family members that comes out and not Lauren, and they catch me before I'm even in the house?
I mean, I'm sure we'll get caught at some point, because it is her parents' house. But I would much rather be caught inside of the manor, sitting on her bed or playing a game, not wandering around outside.
It was thoughts like those that were filling Rosie's mind as she walked through the grounds, still very very lost. She felt as if all the walking she was doing was in circles, but didn't know for a fact. She thought she recognized a few things, but the entire place was foreign to her.
Rosie was truly, really, and undeniably a Muggle-Born. The idea of living in a manor with a pureblooded family, with a whole lot of money but people that hated her, was not something familiar to Rosalyn. Though, to Lauren, it most certainly was. Rosie herself had zero previous knowledge of the magical world, and no family to help her through any of it. No reputations to uphold or to escape, no siblings that she risked running into at school.
Come to think of it, Rosie had no siblings at all. Lauren, however, had two horrible older ones. Felix and Arianna, one brother and one sister, who were absolutely, positively, the worst. In fact, the two had literally told Rosalyn horrible things about her friend before erasing her memory so she didn't know it was them. That led to a lot of chaos in detention, including a Forbidden Forest trip, multiple injuries, and the largest argument that Rosalyn had ever had in her entire life. It was really bad, and even just thinking about it made her feel sick to her stomach.
Why did I say all of those horrible things? I'm lucky that we made up again…
Anyways, she decided to push all of the thoughts of what had happened on that terrible night out of her head, swallowing the nausea that came with reminding herself of the horrible things that had been said. Though, to be fair, Rosie was not at all in her right mind. She'd had her memories and her mind tampered with, gotten injured by their trek into the forest, and was outrageously upset by what Lauren had said to her first. Though not excuses, at least why she got so angry made a bit of sense.
Hearing a shout at last, she snapped out of her own thoughts. It was distinctly Lauren's voice. Her friend had come to rescue her from her aimless wandering, and to start this party!
Well, was it really a party? I mean, Rosie had been invited over for a sleepover, which could be a party. But the manor was a bit gloomy…but perhaps Lauren's room wouldn't be! She was obsessed with disobeying and defying her parents, which Rosie most definitely understood the reason for, so there would be no surprise if the girl had the most anti-classic room ever.
She doubted she would be allowed to decorate it in that way though, but still. Any room with Lauren in it was immediately better than one without her, so no matter what happened, things would be okay. Just as long as they stuck together.
"Lauren! Oh, it's so good to see you!" Rosie said as her friend came fully into view, despite the fact that school had only ended a bit previously. Eh, any day Rosie had to spend with just her parents and the tension among them was a very long day indeed, so it felt more like an eternity than the few days it had been.
She noticed how Lauren ran up to get closer, arms outstretched. Rosie of course ran herself, not wanting to leave her to do all of the work!
Once they met, she pulled the girl into her arms, surprised by the fact that Lauren had been the one with her arms out. She most definitely was not the sort of person to ask for a hug, but Rosie most definitely was, so she took the opportunity and held on tight. Not tight enough to choke her though, of course!
"I missed you so much! How are you?" Rosie asked, biting back the rest of the questions that she wanted to ask, mostly about her family and if she brought enough stuff and what the plan was and how her summer was going so far, despite them only having spent a little bit away from the school. The rapid-fire questions would be a bit too much, she was sure, so she held herself back, instead just savouring the moment of the embrace.
She listened as Lauren asked some questions of her own, about if Rosie had been lost. The answer was most definitely yes to said question, but she didn't know if she wanted to admit that.
You know what, it'll be fine. She's known me for nearly a year at this point, so she knows how clumsy and…directionally challenged I can be. Also, she has to understand that this place is huge! How am I not supposed to get lost?
"Yeah, I was lost. And thanks for looking for me, sorry I was moving around! This place is just…huge! How do you manage to not get lost every day?" she asked, genuinely curious as to how she could live in a place this large and find her way around.
Maybe if I had a map or something, this would have been a lot easier. Or if someone had answered the front door.
On second thought, the odds of the person opening the door not being Lauren were too big. So nevermind, I'm glad nobody answered!
What would I have even done if someone else had answered the door? Pretend to be a Girl Guide selling biscuits, or a very lost girl? That one would be the most accurate, obviously. But still, I definitely am glad I was not in that situation.
Snapping out of her thoughts again, aware of how weird it would look if she continued with those for even a second more, Rosie tightened the hug for a second before letting go, not wanting it to reach that point of being too awkward.
She'd known people over the years with habits like that, making hugs last uncomfortably long. Family friends especially, they always held on for way too long. There's a huge difference between 'oh, I've missed you, it's been too long' and 'I'm holding on for dear life and not letting go ever'.
Oh no, back in her thoughts again!
"So, are you ready for this? I didn't quite know what to bring, because I didn't know what you had. But, I brought a pillow and blanket and toiletries and stuff. Also a few games, a deck of cards, and some chocolates that I stole from the pantry!" she said, remembering that particular stealth mission.
The chocolate was kept in a bin at the very tippy-top of the pantry. To Rosie and her very short self, getting up there was nearly impossible(which was the point of her mum and dad putting it up there). She had planned on just grabbing some while they were gone at work, like they usually were. But, of course, they chose those few days to take off to be with her to celebrate the summer. Luckily the time they were taking off ended yesterday and today was a weekend, so she wasn't cutting into any of that time with her whole 'sneaking off for the sleepover' thing.
Anyways, the chocolate. She decided to wait for the night, because then her parents would be asleep. It would still be difficult to get down the hall and down the stairs to the kitchen, especially with her mum and dad sleeping in separate rooms because 'your father snores', her mother had said, therefore two rooms with parental authorities she needed to evade.
She had tiptoed as quietly as possible to get through the hallway and past their rooms, barely breathing at all. Then, when she reached the stairs, she walked down the first several with no problem. But that stupid third-to-last step creaked really loudly, so she jumped down from there. Thank goodness for the carpet, or she could've been heard! Then, she dragged a chair out from the kitchen table to stand on, and snatched the chocolates, which she hid in the bag she was slowly sneaking things to take into.
All of that just for some chocolate…
"So yeah! I'm up for whatever you'd like to do, but I do want to get inside eventually. It's pretty hot out here!" she said, wiping a bit of sweat from her brow.
Rosie adjusted the strap of her bag, moving it to her other shoulder, as she wanted her left arm to bear the weight rather than her tired right arm. That reminded her of the long journey it had taken her to get to this very manor, which made her entire body feel rather tired.
What I would give to sit down…
"Could I talk to you real quick, though? It feels like something is...wrong, with my family. Usually things are just pretty normal, but for some reason, it's pretty tense. And my mum and dad are spending less time around each other, and refuse to even be in the same room unless I'm there. They changed rooms! My dad's in the guest room now, and I just...I don't know what's going on, but I want to fix it." she said, unable to catch herself before ranting a bit about what had been resting in the back of her mind since the start of the break.

It was, most certainly, unbelievable. In truth, the voices in her mind had served as Aunt Loratrix during her time in Hogwarts; they were meant to guide her and provide her comfort and motivation, like Aunt Loratrix once did. But it was all over now. Aunt Loratrix had switched sides. Frankly, she was a traitor to Lauren.
Being observant, Lauren had noticed that the members of the Vanes family had treated her aunt differently to what they had treated her as before. Aunt Loratrix had been, in their eyes, what a true member of the Vanes family should have been. But despite all the twisted truths that the Vanes family believed and held utmost regard in, Loratrix Vanes was nothing but a traitor. A traitor to her own race, a traitor to the twelve-year-old who supported and loved her.
It had all been genuine. Lauren wasn't faking; no, not at all. She was always there for her aunt. Her aunt had offered the young Slytherin support, and she had offered support to her. They were for each other. They loved each other and were one miniature family. Just the two of them.
But not any longer. Lauren didn't want anything to do with her aunt now. The letter she had sent to her in May had scratched wounds in the young girl's heart that would never heal. Her buisness with any member of her family was finished. She would, instead, dedicate all her time and blood to her friends. The friends that stuck to her and didn't change sides.
Sadly, these friends did not include Rosalyn Willows. That, too, had been something that Lauren thought would not be reversed. Yet here they were, arm in arm, happier than ever to be with each other. Why was that?
It was because twelve year olds had hearts while women in their forties did not. They made it up. They forgave each other for everything that happened between them. And that was what friendship was for. Yet it appeared that Loratrix Vanes had some problem in her brain that caused her to not understand what little girls could. They were all sorted into Slytherin all the same, but maybe whoever taught Aunt Loratrix at that time didn't have a brain either. No, all the Hogwarts teachers were okay at teaching. Yes, it was probably because Aunt Loratrix didn't listen. Or maybe she did, but there was something wrong with her genes or whatever.
No, it couldn't be! Lauren, too, was a Parselmouth, which meant that she inherited her genes. She had gotten straight 'O's in her first year! Well, except for one 'A'. One stupid, fucking 'A'. No. It was just too painful, too disgraceful to think about. That transfiguration grade had ruined her straight 'O' record, and Lauren wasn't having it. It was all thanks to a Hufflepuff who calmed her down, or she would've probably jumped out of the window.
No, this was no time to dwell on sad memories. She was just glad that she and Rosie had made it up again and were to hang out today. She glanced at the door of the Vanes manor, and back at Rosie uncertainly. She wanted to break the news to her friend that they would have to wait outside for about a thousand more minutes before they could go inside as her mother was reading The Daily Prophet a few feet from the door, and Sabrina Vanes usually took hours, but decided that she would listen to Rosie's reply to her previous questions first.
Of course Rosalyn Willows was lost. If she wasn't, then Lauren would have reason to believe that some imposter had possessed her. But she kept her mouth shut, interiorly sighed in dismay as Rosie asked her other questions, and decided to be polite and answer them first.
"Eh, the usual," she said in response to Rosie's question about how she was. "I also missed you too. Did you have any idea how bad things were without you? I was literally dying of the fucking voices in my head. I hate them."[/color] She paused, then answered the girl's second question. "Well, this place isn't that big. Not even as big as Hogwarts. What, the Vanes manor only has, like, five floors plus a little basement and attic. Small. And of course, my room is the smallest of them all. So you'd better not break the door trying to squeeze in." She meant the last line as a joke, hoping that Rosie would see through it. "I guess I have to admit that this garden is pretty big, but I usually just get to the main door since it's a little different to the other ones. There's some names in it, see?" She pointed at the Vanes manor, which had 'The Vanes Manor' engraved on the door, but it was silver and relatively hard to see.
"Anyways, my mother's at the door reading a stupid newspaper, so we've gotta wander around here for about a thousand more minutes." Without waiting for Rosie's reply, she bounded over to a grassland and saw a garden gnome. Remembering that her friend was a muggle-born, she decided to teach her something about pureblood creatures just to pass the time, but she wasn't quite sure if Rosie would appreciate it. Whatever, she didn't care, because the muggleborn's knowledge of the Wizarding World was still... rather shallow despite staying in Hogwarts for a year.
"Right, so these are garden-" Her voice cut off abruptly as the garden gnome bit her leg, sending her flying backwards. Then it bared its razor-sharp teeth at Rosie."Never mind it. I'm calling this the end of playing around here. Let's get back into my house by back door. The reason I didn't want to go there earlier was because I put mom's kitchen knives onto the floor and hoped that someone would step on it, but nobody did. I got caught, but I secretly snuck the knives back in and I'm sure that they're still there because the Vanes family are cowards." She finished her rant and motioned for Rosie to follow her, who was telling her that she had brought a lot of muggle stuff there. The young Slytherin breathed a sigh of relief as she said that she had brought pillows and blankets. They would spend the day in Lauren's room. And it was good that she snuck some chocolate there, even though Lauren also had a pint of virgin butterbeer from Hogsmeade.
Then Rosie told her that she would really want to get into the house eventually. Lauren completely symphathised with her, so she agreed.
"Right." She quickly evaded the knives on the floor, and gestured for Rosie to do the same. But it seemed, though, that Rosie had something to say to her, so the Slytherin went out again.
Honestly, Rosie could have went into the living room instead, but Lauren didn't want to linger around there as they could be caught at any moment. She listened as Rosie ranted about her family, how her mother and father wouldn't speak to each other unless she was in the room with them and hated each other. Oddly, though, things were normal with Rosie and they had treated Rosie... normally. Instantly, Lauren felt a pang of jealousy and opened her mouth to speak.
"Seriously, Rosie! You should be glad that your parents aren't turning against you because of their selfish personal conflicts. I know that you want to fix it, but I don't think that's really possible. Just give them a while to cool down. Once you go back to your house, wherever it is, they'll probably be as cool as snow."

I'm Only Here for You
To be formatted later! @Lauren Vanes, let me know if you want anything changed!
When Rosalyn had asked Lauren about how she was doing, she was hopeful that the answer would be fine, or perhaps that things had changed with her family, and that they were being less horrible to the poor child. But, of course, the answer that she received was nothing of the sort. Instead, Rosie was informed of the most pressing issue at the moment being the voices within the girl's head. The idea was tragic, of her friend being plagued by her own mind, full of traitorous thoughts and ideas, though she was quickly distracted by the word thrown in with the rest of that sentence.
Fucking. Oh, just thinking the world made Rosie's own chest tighten up in a knot of anxiety, for fear of whatever moral judge was resting within her judging the quality of her soul based on the internally repeated word.
Raised in a house that, in comparison to the Vanes family, the girl was rather sheltered. Rosalyn had never heard a curse word, not until she got to Hogwarts, a place full of people with many different sorts of backgrounds and moral compasses related to what words they were willing to say.
Should I say something about it? No, I should just ignore it. Besides, what would I even say? 'Hey, Lauren, don't say curse words because I don't like hearing them'? That's stupid and sounds outrageously pathetic.
Deciding to just simply ignore the foul word, Rosalyn decided to respond to the rest of the sentence.
"I'm so sorry that I couldn't come sooner to be with you! It's so stupid that twelve year olds can't drive. I mean, if even I could manage to get here with no phone and my…well, my general clumsiness and lack of directional abilities, I'm sure that it'd be fine to lower the driving age." she said, getting lost in her own trail of thoughts, before she remembered that there were much bigger things going on than her own thoughts about the law.
Then, Lauren began to describe the manor, and Rosalyn turned to look at it in confusion when she said it wasn't that big. She looked from the manor back to the grounds, searching to see if there was a smaller house on the property that her friend was talking about. Because if they were looking at the same ginormous building, then she and Lauren had very, very different definitions for what was normal.
"FIVE FLOORS? How is that small to you! And it's even got a basement and an attic?" she said, barely able to hold herself back from talking about her own house. After everything that had happened between the two of them, Rosie knew that she may be on a bit of thin ice, and didn't want Lauren to think that she was uncool or that her parents, both Muggles, had made her not worthy of magic or something of the sort.
The majority of students in Hogwarts, the best school that Rosalyn had ever attended in her entire life, were pretty good people. Lots had been kind to her, as she'd gotten lost or needed help, and others had just been rather neutral. There were still lots that Rosie hadn't yet gotten to meet, which was most definitely a goal of hers for the next school year. In fact, she had begun making a list of goals for her second year, since she had figured out enough of the school to avoid getting lost at every turn she took.
Whoa, sidetracked! Anyways, though a lot of the students at Hogwarts were really cool people, there were definitely some that weren't, and who would look down on her because of her magic not coming from her parents or any other known ancestors. Thank goodness Lauren wasn't one of them, but things could switch up at any moment. Which meant that she needed to be careful about what she said, so she didn't seem lame or anything.Rosie's Foolproof List For School Awesomeness!

"I mean, yeah, sure, I guess it's not that big." she said, putting her hands behind her back, hoping that it would somehow make her seem more calm and cooler.
Then, Lauren made what Rosie assumed was a joke, and decided not to think much of it. She doubted any of the rooms in this entire house could possibly have small enough of a doorway to break on the way in, especially with how short Rosie unfortunately was. She had a bit of time left to grow, thank goodness, so she'd just have to wait for that. But, in the meantime, she was stuck in the body of a much smaller child, despite her teenage years being right around the corner. A concept that was alien to her, so she decided to just shake off the thought and move back on from her thoughts to the conversation at hand.
"Don't worry, I won't be breaking any doorframes! And yeah, a garden like this is my dream come true. I mean, honestly, the amount of flowers I could plant here! Roses, and Dahlias, and maybe some strawberries too!" she said, already picturing the way she'd lay everything out in the wide expanse of her head. She had a pretty vivid imagination, which meant that she could picture the future-garden ideas in her head.
"I do see that name on the gate!" she said, looking where Lauren pointed to. The gate itself was absolutely enormous, providing a window into the house she was hopefully about to go into.
Lauren mentioned her mother reading a newspaper, which meant they'd have to keep wandering around. Not Rosie's first choice of activities to kick of their sleepover, mainly because the majority of the time it took for her to get places was full of wandering, so she'd gotten more than enough of that for a lifetime.
Without another word, Lauren began to run off, so Rosie obviously followed. Slower than usual with the bag weighing her down, she had to fight extra-hard to keep up with her friend.
"HOLY CRAP WHAT THE HECKLE IS THAT?!?" she screamed, completely caught off guard as some strange-looking creature bit her friend. Taking a step forward immediately to help her, she saw as the creature turned and looked ready to attack her.
"Okay! That's fine, we can go in. Are you okay though? Is that bite venomous? What even was that? Do you need a plaster, because I have some packed!" she said, looking down at the bite. It didn't look too bad, at least at the moment, so she decided to just brush it off from her mind.
"Oh! Alrighty then, knives on the floor! Got it! Any other booby-traps I should be aware of?" she asked, trying to act like the fact that there were knives meant to sabotage her own family members was completely normal, which it may have been for the Vanes family.
After she had been able to share what was going on with her parents to Lauren, the girl did not respond at all in the way that Rosalyn expected her to. Though it did make sense, but after everything in the Forest, Lauren saying that friends could share with each other, she hadn't really expected one of the few things she shared to be met with such…anger?
"My bad, I guess? Do you need to talk about something, because you should just say that if you do. Something is really going on with my parents, and I don't know what it is, I was just trying to share like you said I should. And my house is all the way in York, by the way, where I had to convince my parents to leave to bring me close enough to your house that I could walk all the way here on my own. To be with you. I do hope they're cool as snow, and they may be to each other, because when I get back, I'm probably going to be so grounded I won't see the outside of my room for the rest of the summer, and then probably every summer after that for a very long time." she said, feeling a bit of righteous anger strike her, reminding her of how very done for she was the second she set foot back in that car, if her parents even took the time to come and pick her back up from that blasted store she'd snuck out of. All so she could come and be with her friend, and give her somebody to talk to that wasn't her family.
All because she decided to be kind, right?
