Afternoon :Time
With one hand holding her book and the other supporting the silver mackerel tabby against her chest, Elara made her way across the grounds. Lumi shifted in her arms, ears twitching at every little sound around them. She seemed far more interested in the birds than in staying still. "You know, you could walk too," Elara said quietly, looking down at her. Lumi simply blinked at her. A small smile crossed Elara's face before she continued walking.

When they reached the lake, Elara took a moment to look around before choosing a spot beneath a tree. It was quiet enough for reading, but not so far away that it felt completely empty. She placed her book down first, then carefully let Lumi onto the grass. Her cat stretched lazily, looking much more awake than she had a few seconds ago. Elara watched as Lumi wandered in a slow circle around the tree. She paused to sniff at the grass, watched a dragonfly hover for a second, then became fascinated by a dry leaf rolling along the ground. Elara reached over to stroke the top of her head. "Stay close, alright?" Lumi answered with a soft meow that sounded almost like a promise.

After making sure her cat was comfortable, Elara finally opened her book. She had only planned to read for a little while, but that rarely happened. Once she became interested in a story, she tended to forget about everything else around her. The pages passed quietly. She didn't notice when Lumi stopped making small noises nearby. She didn't notice when her cat wandered a little further away. Not until she reached down without looking. Her fingers searched for soft fur. Instead, she touched the grass. Elara paused. Her eyes moved down to the empty space beside her. "Lumi?" No answer.

She looked around the tree, expecting to see a silver tail or a pair of curious eyes watching her. Nothing. Closing her book, Elara stood up and brushed a few bits of grass from her clothes. "Lumi?" she called again, slightly louder this time. Her cat liked exploring, but she usually came back when called. At least, she usually did. Elara walked a few steps away from where she had been sitting, checking behind the tree and around the nearby patches of grass. Still nothing. She frowned slightly, looking around the lakeside. Where did you go this time?

The Great Lake in September was a massive W only. It completely blocked the NPC energy buzzing in the Gryffindor common room. Bartholomew was vibing max with the great lake. Literally the perfect afternoon to escape all that unnecessary chosen-one drama, bro.

This skinny eleven-year-old fellow was sitting cross-legged on the grass hunching over his acoustic guitar. He was casually strumming the strings letting the rhythm mix with the lake water splashing. It was background music to settle the mind honestly giving major main character energy without doing any extra overacting. Total W vibes only!

Pearl was vibing next to him. The spotted Egyptian Mau just chilled on his thigh purring to the guitar like a boss. Since reaching Hogwarts this was their routine only. Total W energy, literally ignoring all that magic drama for pure peace!

Only, Pearl’s ears twitched like anything. She stared at the grass. Out trotted a silver tabby cat having a crazy positive aura. This new cat wasn't even scared; she was totally checking out the instrument and Pearl with major curiosity. Seeing this Bartholomew instantly muted his guitar strings trying not to kill the vibe or spook the visitor. All you cannot be acting sus when a new magical bestie drops in unannounced!

"Bro, whose cat are you only?" Bartholomew whispered. Pearl just trilled back totally vibing. She wasn’t acting sus all staying maximum chill because the bond, with her wizard owner was literally built different I swear.

Before the silver tabby could pull a on sus stunt Bartholomew caught a stressed voice on the breeze. "Lumi?"

He looked up. Spotted a girl holding a book searching around a tree. Figuring out her situation took zero effort. He gave Pearl, a nudge—who was completely vibing and not bothered at all—and called out to her.

"Hey!" Bartholomew waved lazily keeping his voice soft to not spook the cat. "If you think your curious cat is lost you are totally delulu! She is here only acting like the main character and just chilling with us."

The moment she heard the boy call out, Elara turned toward the voice. With her book tucked against her side, she didn't take long to spot the familiar silver mackerel tabby sitting a few feet away. "There you are." She let out a quiet sigh before walking over. So that was where Lumi had disappeared to. As she got closer, the reason became obvious. A guitar rested across the boy's lap, and Lumi was sitting nearby as if she'd decided that was the most interesting thing by the lake. Another cat stayed close beside him, watching everything with far more dignity than Lumi seemed capable of.

Elara stopped a short distance away. "Thank you," she said with a small smile. "I was starting to worry." Lumi looked over when she heard her name. For a second, Elara thought the cat might come back. Instead, Lumi wandered closer to the guitar again. "...Of course." She shook her head, trying not to laugh. "I'm sorry if she's been bothering you." Her cat circled around the guitar case, sniffed at one corner, then sat down again as though she'd been invited. "So much for staying close." There wasn't much point in picking her up now. Knowing Lumi, she'd probably wriggle free the first chance she got.

She shifted the book beneath one arm before crouching beside Lumi, resting a hand on her back. Lumi accepted the attention for all of three seconds before looking back at the guitar. That earned another quiet smile. "You've made a new friend already?" she murmured, watching Lumi for another second. Only then did she look back at him properly. He looked around her age. The guitar was still across his lap, while the spotted cat remained comfortably beside him, completely unbothered by Lumi's sudden appearance. "I don't think we've met before," Elara said. "I'm Elara." She gently scratched behind Lumi's ears. "And this curious little one is Lumi." For a moment, she watched the two cats sitting near each other. "I hope she didn't interrupt your afternoon too much."

Before Elara could even finish walking over Pearl had already started saying hello. The spotted Egyptian Mau made a sound and gently bumped her head against Lumi’s chin like she was welcoming her to a special group. Bartholomew watched this. Nodded slowly. His cat was definitely better at making friends than some of the kids in the Gryffindor room. It was a cool thing to do.

"Oh she was not bothering us all" Bartholomew said with a smile moving his guitar to give the cats some more space. "Your cat really likes music. She walked up like she knew what she was doing. Pearl was just showing her how to ignore all the noise around the castle."

He moved his legs a little. Leaned back against the tree. The sunlight coming through the autumn leaves hit his guitar right making the whole scene look nice and calm. It was, like magic.

"I am Bartholomew" he said, introducing himself with a tilt of his head. "This is Pearl. Do not worry about interrupting I was just trying to get through the afternoon without getting too stressed. You can stay and hang out with us if you want if your book is not calling you back that is."

Elara watched as the spotted Egyptian Mau greeted Lumi, her head tilting slightly when the two cats seemed to get along almost immediately. Lumi gave a quiet meow before rubbing her cheek against the other cat. "They seem to like each other." Her attention shifted back to Bartholomew when he introduced himself. She gave a small nod. "Bartholomew," she repeated quietly. "It's nice to meet you." She glanced down at Lumi for a moment. Her cat had already settled beside Pearl as though she had completely forgotten about her owner. Elara couldn't help but smile. Lumi seemed perfectly comfortable there, her tail resting against the grass as she watched Pearl.

Bartholomew had said she was welcome to stay, though Elara hesitated for a moment. She looked toward the tree where she had been sitting earlier, then back at him. "Are you sure?" Her fingers tightened slightly around the edge of her book. "I don't want to interrupt you." The lake remained quiet around them. A light breeze moved through the leaves above, and Lumi's tail flicked lazily against the grass. Elara looked at her cat again. I guess Lumi had already made up her mind. A small smile crossed Elara's face. "I suppose I can stay for a little while."

She carefully sat down on the grass, placing her book beside her. This time, she didn't open it right away. She adjusted the book so it wouldn't get caught beneath her, then rested her hands loosely in her lap. Her gaze returned to Bartholomew. "She doesn't usually wander this far," she said. "I guess she found something interesting." Her eyes moved to the guitar resting across Bartholomew's lap. She'd noticed the guitar earlier, but only now did she really look at it. The instrument looked well cared for, and Pearl seemed just as familiar with it as Bartholomew was. "Do you play often?" Elara remained quiet after asking, giving him the chance to answer. Lumi, meanwhile, seemed perfectly happy where she was. At least she stayed this time.

As Elara carefully sat down and placed her book safely on the grass Bartholomew gave an easy approving nod. He comfortably rested his hand against his acoustic guitar, his thumb brushing out a soft mellow chord that hung in the quiet air for a moment. It was nothing just a gentle rhythmic hum that made Pearl purr even louder next to Lumi.

"Literally every day, bro" Bartholomew answered with a relaxed chuckle looking down at his wooden guitar. "Home I had a proper music setup but since Hogwarts magic completely scrambles all Muggle things I am relying on acoustic vibes only. It is basically my survival tool for when the common room gets way too chaotic. You know how it is sometimes you just cannot be taking tension about everyone Drama. You simply have to mute all the background noise and chill honestly."

He glanced over at the two felines completely amused by how they had become besties. Pearl was notoriously picky with her company so Lumi passing the vibe check quickly was a massive flex. They were literally sitting together like they owned the lakeside acting totally prime today.

"So, what is your excuse, for hiding here?" he asked, tilting his head slightly toward the book resting beside her. "Are you dodging the castles energy too or is the Great Lake simply your designated reading spot? Because if you are just looking for a place to do timepass you and Lumi found the absolute best spot, no cap."

Elara listened as Bartholomew talked, occasionally glancing at the guitar resting across his lap. What he said about the common room made sense to her. It could be difficult to find a quiet moment there when everyone was around. "Yeah, I understand," she said. "It can get pretty loud in the common room." A quiet chord sounded from the guitar. Elara's eyes followed the movement of his hand for a second before she looked back at him. She had heard music around Hogwarts before, but she wasn't used to sitting this close to someone while they played.

Then his question brought her attention back to the reason she'd come to the lake in the first place. "I wanted to read somewhere quiet." She glanced at the book beside her and lightly touched its cover. "I usually go to the library." She paused, looking out across the water. "But I felt like coming here today." It was supposed to be a simple afternoon. Find a quiet spot, read for a while, then head back before it got too late. Instead, Lumi had decided to go exploring. Elara looked over at her cat. Lumi was still beside Pearl, apparently having no problem staying where she was now. A small smile appeared on Elara's face. At least she seems happy.

Her attention returned to the guitar. She had seen it when she first came over, though she hadn't had much time to pay attention to it while looking for Lumi. "I've never learned how to play," she admitted. "I don't really know much about guitars." She looked at Bartholomew for a moment. "But I do like music." Her fingers rested against the cover of her book again. "What do you usually play?"

Bartholomew smiled, tapping the wooden guitar body. He understood the library appeal, but sitting outside was a massive W for the aesthetic. "The library is decent, but the vibe here is way more valid for chilling," he agreed, watching the lake's gentle ripples. "Plus, you literally cannot play an instrument inside without Madam Doukas going absolutely feral on you. She would hex the strings right off!"

He looked down, casually repositioning his fingers on the frets. "As for what I play, it is mostly acoustic fingerstyle. Honestly, mastering guitar is exactly like learning a whole new foreign language. You must strictly drill basic chords and scales every single day. It is just like drilling vocabulary flashcards or practicing language lessons until your brain and hands sync up automatically without taking any tension."

To prove his point, he started plucking a slow, peaceful melody. The notes were relaxing, mixing perfectly with the gentle breeze rustling the autumn leaves. It was a soft, eastern-inspired tune he had been practicing to keep himself grounded before exams. He completely ate that up, letting the music's calming aura take over the entire space without doing too much.

"I just make up a lot of it as I go, or learn random melodies having a chill energy," he explained softly, not wanting to break the spell. "You do not even need to know guitars to enjoy it. If it helps you do solid timepass with your book, and keeps these two premium felines fully entertained, then it is doing its job perfectly. No cap, this is the best way to spend an afternoon."

The comparison to learning a language made sense to her. You had to remember things at first, then keep practicing until they became easier. "I think I understand," she said. "It probably takes a lot of patience." A few more notes came from the guitar. Elara listened quietly. She didn't know much about playing, but she liked the sound.

It suited the lake somehow. There was still the sound of the water nearby, along with the leaves moving whenever the breeze passed through them. "But I do like listening to it." Her fingers rested against the cover of her book. Reading and sketching were more familiar to her. She could spend hours with a book or sit with a sketch for just as long. Sometimes she didn't notice how much time had passed until she finally looked up.

All those chords and scales sounded like a lot to remember. Elara had never really thought about what went into learning an instrument before. She supposed there was more to it than simply knowing how to play a few songs. "I've never learned how to play anything," she said. "I wouldn't even know where to start." Lumi shifted beside Pearl, but neither cat seemed interested in leaving. Elara let out a quiet breath, then looked back at Bartholomew. "How long have you been playing?" She waited for his answer, still listening to the soft notes from the guitar.

Bartholomew kept his thumb moving in a steady, relaxing rhythm across the lower strings. The fact that she was actually vibing with the music was a massive W. He lowkey appreciated that she was not treating him like a complete weirdo for ghosting the loud castle drama.

"Honestly, I have been playing since I was basically a five year old, bro," he replied, keeping his tone as mellow as the acoustic chords. "My family kept lots of Muggle instruments around our house back in Godric's Hollow. I just naturally gravitated towards them and started doing solid timepass. It was mostly self-taught, just messing around with strings until things stopped sounding like a crying mandrake."

He let a soft, echoing chord ring out over the gentle lapping of the lake water, shifting his dark eyes toward Elara with an easy nod. "And hey, not knowing where to start is totally valid. You literally just pick it up and focus without taking any tension. But if you are more into reading and sketching, that is a total flex too. Everyone has their prime way to escape the absolute NPC energy of this castle, no cap."

Down on the grass, Pearl stretched her spotted paws out lazily before resting her chin closer to Lumi. Bartholomew chuckled softly at the sight. "Looks like these two premium felines are completely locked in for the afternoon. If you want to stay here and dive into your book, I can totally keep providing the chill background vibes. Zero pressure, you just do you."
