It is almost midnight. Millie cross-checked her class' schedule on her pocket journal, making sure she didn't misread the time written there. Night class astronomy, huh? That's new, and actually, quite a nice idea. Good her Ma didn't need to know this schedule or Millie would likely heard her strict rambling that night time can only be used to rest.
She climbed the stairs to the astronomy tower. She thought her house's tower is already high in the sky. Long tiring stairs. But this class's tower, which the actual highest point in this school, makes her wish she had wings or at least can levitated herself without using her feet. If she doing this until she graduated, she totally certain she'll gain more muscles on her calf rather on her hands.
Finally, she arrived at the top of the tower! Good job, me! She huffed breathlessly, clicked her tongue, and wipe her sweat. There are already quite a few students there. Luckily, she hasn't caught any sign of the Professor yet so she casually walked in and flopped her body in the closest vacant seat she spotted on.
She leaned her head to the edge, facing an open night sky, thin but seemingly soft gas of cloud in the far, and cool breeze brushing her face. Truth to be told, she feel dizzy with this kind of height. How if this tower suddenly collapsed? How if this barrier cannot hold much of her and just let her fall free? She shuddered and quickly move away from the edge as the Professor come out from the seemingly his office to the classroom.

Leo was excited. He was so excited, he had to restrain the urge to whistle with joy with all his will. One might wonder why he was that excited. Why? Simple. He just liked Astronomy.
It didn't run in him family. It was a weird quirky fetish Leo's elder sister, Cas picked up. She would read books, buy star maps, and stay up all night gazing into the sky using her telescope. Growing up, one of the major ways he would interact, and later make memories with her was through astronomy. It was sad his younger sister found it boring. A pity, really.
Now, he was learning Astronomy in Hogwarts. He took out his notebook and pen and waited for the professor to come. Cas had asked him to owl her anything new he had learned, and he didn't want her to get upset.
Flop. Leo looked to his left, startled to find a girl taking a seat rather hurriedly beside him. She probably ran up all the way here. Running up those stairs? Wow. She really must be motivated. And it clearly took a lot of effort on her side, because she was breathless, huffing and puffing. She then rested her head on the edge of the table. She was sweating.
Didn't Leo have a handkerchief with him somewhere? In his robes, pockets....Ha! He produced once from his right pocket and set it on a table. ''Want to wipe of the sweat? Seems like you ran up all those stairs.'' He smiled, and stretched his left hand for a handshake. ''I'm Leo. Leo Madahand.''

She snapped out when she caught a handkerchief from the corner of her eyes, which was pushed by a boy she didn't realized was already sitting next to her. Looking back down at the handkerchief, she was doubtful at first. He kindly offered it to her to wiped the sweat out off her face. Though, however, she still accepted it just to be polite and dabbed a little spot on her face.
Before she got a chance to express her gratitude, the boy already stretched his hand toward her and start to introduced himself. Without a doubt this time, she returned the gesture. "It's Millie. And thanks for your handkerchief, Leo. I think I already got used of the stairs but ..." She just huffed and shake her head. "Still a torture."
As the class finally begins, they have no choice but to keep their mouth shut for a moment. Millie produced her parchment and quill, ready to take a note once the Professor immediately got down to the lesson. But when she looked at her side, to where Leo sit there quietly, she saw the bright sparkle on his eyes. Like he seeing something that ignite his excitement to the very deep core of his. Well, who knows? Maybe he really just love astronomy that much he even forgotten his things on the table. No note. Just stare excitedly to what Professor had said.
"You sure like this lesson, huh?" Millie whispers softly as she take a note on her part. Glancing aside, but hearing no response. She can't help but hold her chuckle. She shrugged, continue her hands movement on the parchment. "Hm. I can see it clearly anyway."

The class began. Leo lost himself.
He liked astronomy. That was an understatement. Cas said she found Leo's interest in the subject intimidating, which he sometimes found annoying, and never understood. Maybe she was referring to the fact tat out of sheer curiosity he had memorised all the moons of all the planets of the solar system. Okay, maybe not all, but the most important when it came to the gas giants. He had memorised star names, constillation shapes and positions, black hole and nebulae names, and other celestial bodies. He had learned how stars form, how they die, how neutron stars form, how black holes break reality. All of it through sheer interest.
Well, maybe now he could see why this could count as intimidating, but he had to admit Cas was better with the telescope than him. She was the one to taught him how to spot a meteor with one. Both Cas and Leo have tried to instill the interest in astronomy to their little sister Diane, but she was more interested in plants, saying that she found staring into ''that glass tube'' was boring. It was very offending, and Leo had to remind himself that he was talking to his sister at that moment.
Now, he was learning how magic met astronomy. Sure, this was just a start, and nothing more complex or dangerous, but this little taste was enough to keep him going. He only realised that he forgot to take notes after the lecture had ended. Oh no. Now Cas was gonna be mad, going on about how he never listens to his sister.
Then he realized the girl beside him said something. What did she say? ''You sure like this lesson, huh? Hmm... I can see it already.''
He looked at her with a jolt. That whisper sure startled him. He smiled sheepishly. ''Oh...yeah. I like astronomy. Why, is it that obvious?''

Is it that obvious, he said. Seriously? He totally dazed, looking so intently like the Professor lecture's had hypnotized him to the unknown world only he can access to his own pleasure. Millie smirked. If he doesn't want people to know what he thinks or feels, he should at least be aware of his surrounding first.
"As clear as the sky," she nod and tidying up her notes and quill to her satchel once the Professor had ended the class for tonight. She honestly ready to hit the bed after this, but seeing this new friend of hers looked genuinely loved this very subject, she couldn't help but knowing more. "What makes you like it? I mean, generally speaking, astrology is an enormous subject with so many topics include in it, right?"
It is also not the very first astronomy lesson she attended to. Back at her old school, she learnt it too. Her impression of it is: awesome. She didn't believe out of the planet she lived on, there still so much space that she couldn't even imagine how huge or far it is. Like, for comparison, she maybe was just a speck of dust to the tiny meteor circling in the andromeda.
"Indeed it's cool to know something outside the earth. Yet I thought that was too overwhelming for me," she said while she slinging her satchel over her shoulder. "I once thought, about the first person landed on the moon, how if you lost. Could do nothing but floating with no directions in mind. Your chance to be back safely is too small reminding how far the space it is."

Leo was starting to like this girl. Until when she said astrology.
He stopped himself, pinching the bridge of his nose. Yes, and she went on, talking about the man who landed on the moon. Neil Armstrong in Apollo 11, accompanied by Edwin Aldrin and Michael Collins. Leo often felt sad that so many people didn't know about Collins, as he was still stuck on the shuttle revolving around the moon while Edwin and Neil had an absolute blast on the lunar surface.
Okay, maybe that was exaggerated, but still. Leo forcefully focused on the present, reminding himself that the girl in front of him confused astronomy with astrology.
''Millie. It's astronomy. Not astrology. How did you confuse those two? Both are completely different.''
He didn't expect his voice to sound that stern. He sighed and looked up. ''I mean, a lot of people confuse those two, and it often gets on my nerves. Because one is about space, and one is using that space to predict the future.''
He looked at Millie. ''Okay, forget about my outburst. I feel like you like astronomy too. Why? What part do you like about it? I like it because it's very mysterious and it's cool. And also my older sister kinda drilled it into me practically since I was a baby, so I didn't have a choice,'' he said with a wide grin.

The girl suddenly stood still once Leo voiced his opinion that stenly, almost rising his voice another octav. Tilting her head, she then widen her eyes and slapped her forehead.
"Really?" Millie timidly muttured, then sighed. "Ugh, 'supposed I always did this when I'm confusing something, sorry."
Actually, Millie didn't even know who should she blame about, herself or herself. Maybe because she wasn't used to stayed up this late that she blabbering something she even meant, even though the different about those two only slightly different.
I hope I can just make him forget about all of this and go to bed immediately like nothing ever happened, she thought as she still carrying her embarrassment.
But luckily, Leo doesn't intended to prolong this issue further as she heard another amusement tone out of his voice when he assumed that Millie like the subject too and asked her the reason of it. Leo said that he liked the mystery and the coolness about those astronomical things, and honestly, Millie want to said the said same thing as she also thought that whatever around and outside the planet she recide is indeed still full of question mark, and the things other expert can't even solved themselves yet. More mysterious it is, more intrigued she can be.
"Yes, I liked its mysterious aspects too. There's one of a kind I still curious about," she said with a board smile, looking up at the dark sky just above them. "Hm, what it's called again ... black hole? Or worm hole? I just don't understand why that magnificent topic doesn't have more articles about it. Is it that impossible to solved, or we just still lack of technology, or is it too controversional to openly published that topic? I mean, Mama once said to me that sometimes knowing too much have its own loss that I shouldn't dig more but ..."
She just sighed. Her shoulders lumped like her previous spirit just disappeared out of thin air. She couldn't help but disappointed that there's something she can't do about to fulfilling this curiosity of hers. But then she realized she already talk too much (and too deeply on the topic) that she intended to shifted it to another.
"I somewhat like how intense your sister did to you, but since you were just a baby?" Millie raised her eyebrows, chuckled. "Are you serious? No, rather, you remembered everything when you still a baby?"

Leo laughed alongi with Millie when she asked him about the comment about her sister. ''Oh no, not literally, but ever since I remember, the only thing she kinda talked to me when I was a kid had something space-related to it. Heck, she even managed to spin off sci-fi versions of fairy tales. You should listen to Little Red Galactic Hood and the Big Bad Alien.'' He cannot believe he said that with a straight face. It was true though, his sister genuiely said that once.
He suppressed a laugh when he remembered his days when his elder sister would try to put him to sleep while he would argue that the story itself was wrong.
''Black holes do have a lot of articles on them, but the major public just assumes them to be the universe's vacuum cleaner and leave it at that. And general society's opinion often influences the media and therefore, us. But if you know where to look, you would find tons of information on them, be it articles or books. Also,'' he continued, clearing his throat. ''Black holes and wormholes are different, though the concept is the same. A black hole is real, basically swallows everything, it's proven on paper and has been discovered using telescopes and all. A wormhole swallows and teleports the swallowed thing to somewhere else, but we haven't discovered it yet, we just proved it on paper. A wormhole is interesting, because it's a kind of solut.....'' He stopped himself. He was trailing off. About black holes and wormholes. Crap.
He peeked at Millie from the corner of his eye, smiling sheepishly. ''I was zoned out, right? Sorry 'bout that. I could explain in detail, but you'd get bored, I guess...''

Millie stunned silent once Leo started his speech, or lecture. Right. She guessed just right. Leo really does know a lot about astronomical topics. Maybe she can called him The Walking Astronomy Dictionary from now and asked him whenever she got a questions about these subject he seems so deducatedly educated on.
Like, seriously. She even started to comparing this boy with the books and sites she occasionally searched on to looking for the exact same topic now he just casually blabbering about like he just talking about his daily nilly activities. Impacted by his high spirit, Millie started to getting immersed too. Nodding along when he mentioned something she agreed on, and without realizing it she already took out the notebook from her satchel to take a note on whatever remarks from Leo she thought that was important.
Only until he suddenly stopped his short lecture and awkwardly took a glanced at Millie, his enthusiasm faded and now his insecurity took over. Looking at that, Millie sternly shook her head. Bored? Nonsense. Rather, her desire to sleep has gone long ago because of this talks.
"No, please continue," she requested, no, demands. "Besides, you've just stopped even before you reached the most interesting part, is it?"

Leo's eyes widen.
He was genuinely and pleasantly surprised. To think there'd be a day where someone would want to hear him blab about astronomy.
He couldn't stop the small smile forming on his lips. "On the contrary, we're a bit far from the most interesting thing here."
He sat up straighter, clearing his throat. If he was geeking out, and someone wanted to hear it, he should do it proprerly.
"Alright. Hmm....let's do this step by step. Firstly, what is a black hole? It's basically, it's one of the densest things on the planet. For comparison, take neutron stars. I could explain what those are, but for now, just know they're formed when HUGE stars die. Neutron star matter is so dense, one teaspoon of it weighs about the same as Mt. Everest. Yes, the tallest mountain on Earth, you heard me right. Black Holes are denser that that. TO put it simply, taking the Earth and compressing it to a size of a coin or a marble would make a black hole. It's kinda like stuffing stuff into a bag, but so efficiently the mass collapses onto itself. The weird thing is, these black holes has a lot of gravitational force on them. Gravitational force, not gravity. We exclusively use the term ''Gravity'' for Earth only. Anyways, that's due to the sheer amount of mass being stuffed into there. Even light can't escape it. There's even more complex stuff about black holes that spin and black holes that don't, and time dilation, and much more. These things are very complex, but the thing I'll talk about now is one major question."
He leaned forward, his eyes shining. "According to science, no matter what you do to an object, using some process or the above, you can reassemble it, or whatever. The information never get's destroyed. Even if you burn a document or something, with enough advanced technology, you can somehow reconstruct it. Same with everything else. Information stays conserved. To put it simply, the atoms stay almost the same, and just change shape. But, what happens if you throw them into a black hole? We don't know. No matter what you put in there, the information is lost. It's almost s if all matter is being rewritten as the same stuff. What happens to all that information?"
