Gosh. Summer camp. Had it really already been a year? So much had happened since then. Last year, camp had been hosted at the London Quidditch Stadium. It had been incredible to see! But this year, summer camp was being hosted right at Hogwarts! Pyce spared a moment to think about the possibility of other schools hosting summer camp. They would like to see Ilvermorny. They had, of course, seen other schools, as traumatizing as certain instances of that were, but highest priority was Ilvermorny.

Pyce walked through the campgrounds looking for their assigned cabin. They had, naturally, signed up for the Department of Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. Did Pyce have any interest in Ministry work? Not really. But they did have an interest in creatures!

The cabin was easy enough to find, and the lion slipped inside. No one else was there yet, being early was utterly unheard of for Pyce (at no small fault of Hecate's.) It was a bit weird.

Pyce set down their things next to the door and explored the cabin. It was much larger than the tent they spent their first summer camp in. Multiple rooms, a fireplace. It was simultaneously very cozy, yet very spacious. The walls were a clean cream color, accented by brown wooden trims and shelves. The shelves had all matter of plants on them, creeping vines, humble ferns, and a few succulents here and there. There were a few that Pyce recognized, but many more that they couldn't immediately name. They had to wonder who cared for them all. Would the cabin be in charge of them? It was a nice thought, Pyce quite liked plants.

The common room, as that was the only way Pyce could describe it, had several plush looking couches and armchairs decked out with soft pillows featuring little critter designs. There was, of course, the fireplace, Pyce hadn't really gotten over that bit yet, with a few knick knacks (and plants) on the mantle. There was also a bookcase, filled to the brim with books, that matched the rest of the wood present in the cabin that Pyce would absolutely have to look over once they were settled in.

The walls were decorated with all sorts of sketches of creatures and- gosh, Pyce knew they were going to love living here for a month.

They peeked into the bedrooms, noting the bunks and similar decor to the common room. Pyce itched to claim a bed (bottom bunk, Hecate was a menace when it came to bunk beds... Hecate was a menace when it came to anything, actually, Pyce is glad he decided to room with his Slytherin friends and not bother them. Pyce didn't sign up with anyone, theirs was the first name, so their roommates were a mystery.) but they had manners and were polite enough to wait. They made their way back to the common room and dug through their trunk. With a bit of effort, Pyce found Horrorcow's terrarium and set it up on the coffee table in the common room. She didn't spend too much time in it nowadays, Horrorcow was a polite and respectful lizard who was content with a warm rock or the entire portion of Pyce's room floor that was rennovated so she could have her own little habitat without the glass box. But the cabin was somewhere new and Pyce didn't fancy losing their animal best friend. So Horrorcow got settled into her terrarium and Pyce flopped onto one of the couches. They practically sunk into the cushions. Goodness, were these couches comforable.

This was it. Rain’s first long time stay from home without his parents. He looked back to his parents waving from where they were dropping him off at the Campgrounds. He waved back before reaffirming his grip on his trunk and going to find his cabin.

Seeing parts of Hogwarts for the first time sure was something. Even just the campgrounds was more impressive than Rain’s manor home, maybe. Still, the woodsy scent on the in wind and the fresh breeze coming from the Great Lake was amazing. It reminded Rain of the woods surrounding his home and he hoped he wouldn’t be so homesick because of it.

As Rain was walking around and thinking about how he’d miss home but was looking forward to this experience he finally found his cabin.

Walking into the cabin he couldn’t help but be amazed. The natural feel of the room and the warmth from the fireplace. Rain saw the murals of magical creatures in the room and wanted to go around and take a close look at every one. His parents would love this. Rain was so entranced that he didn’t even notice the other student in the room.

I need to find my room next. This trunk is getting heavy. Though he wanted to keep looking at the murals Rain’s trunk was starting to hurt his arm to hold up and he wanted a place to store his things. He wondered into the first room he saw and noticed a bunk bed and single bed in there. He didn’t notice anyone’s things in the room and figured he was the first to arrive.

That’s alright. I’ll be able to get situated before more people arrive and have a second to think. With that thought, Rain decided to put his pillow and favorite stuffed animal on the top bunk and claim it as his. The room was quite nice. Smaller than his room back home but it would do for camp. He would need to get used to a smaller room anyway for school.

After that Rain placed his trunk against the wall and returned to the central room to check out more of the murals. That’s when he noticed another student lounging on one of the couches causing him to startle.

“Goodness! I didn’t see you when I came in. I’m sorry, I just went and claimed a bed without saying anything to you. How impolite of me”. As Rain quietly spoke he made his way around the sofa and faced his new cabin mate. “I’m Rain. Nice to meet you. I hope you don’t mind that I chose that top bed. I want to get along well with every one, I’m afraid I’m just not used to having to pay attention to things like that, yet. And now I’m rambling”, he said with a nervous chuckle.

Rain spoke again, “And I didn’t even ask your name. My apologies. What’s your name?” Rain hoped that his cabin mate didn’t think too negatively of him. Maybe I’m not meant for this after all.

With her trunk in one hand and Lumi's carrier in the other, Elara stopped outside the cabin and looked down at the parchment she was holding. She had already checked the cabin number twice on the way here. This should be it. She checked it one more time. Spending a month with people she had never met was a little strange, but that was also why she had signed up. It would be nice to know a few people before Hogwarts started. She knocked softly before pushing the door open. "Hello?" The cabin wasn't empty.

One student was relaxing on one of the sofas beside a glass terrarium, while another student stood nearby. They seemed to have arrived before her. "Oh... hi." Elara offered them a small smile as she stepped inside, careful not to let the door close too loudly behind her. "I hope I'm not interrupting." She paused for a moment and looked around the cabin.

It was much cozier than she had expected. Plants filled many corners of the room. Long vines hung near the windows, while shelves held ferns, succulents, and other plants she couldn't name. Sketches of magical creatures covered the walls, and a bookcase near the fireplace was filled with books. Her eyes stayed on the bookcase for a moment longer than the rest. She would probably spend some time looking through those later. The sofas and armchairs looked comfortable, and the room had a warm feeling to it. It was different from home, but she liked it. She thought she might enjoy staying here.

As she looked around, her attention moved back to the terrarium on the coffee table. Inside was a small lizard. Before she could take a closer look, the carrier in her hand shifted slightly. Lumi had noticed the lizard too. Elara smiled softly and crouched down. "Let's not bother them just yet." She opened the carrier door slightly and gently scratched behind the silver mackerel tabby's ear. Lumi answered with a quiet purr but stayed where she was, watching the lizard with curious eyes. When Lumi stayed where she was, Elara stood up again.

"Is that your pet?" She looked between the terrarium and the student sitting nearby. A second later, she realized she had forgotten something. "Oh... I'm Elara, Elara Whitlock." She gave them another small smile. "And this is Lumi." Lumi blinked from inside the carrier, still watching the lizard curiously.

𝕯enisse adjusted the strap of her trunk as she made her way across the campgrounds, her footsteps crunching softly on the gravel path, the summer air filled with the excited hum of anticipation. A silver Siberian cat padded silently at her side, tail flicking idly. Katya had insisted she come too, Denisse couldn’t imagine what she’d be doing for the next month without her.

The enchanted wireless announcement about choosing your Department rung still in her ears – “Choose your Department. Earn your place. History has its eyes on you.” Denisse had chosen the Department of Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, and the thought of a whole month surrounded by others who felt the same pull for magical beasts quickened her heartbeat. The cabin was located easily amongst the rest of the campgrounds with ivy trailing over the sides and a lantern hanging by the entrance that gave off a faint glow of color.

Denisse stood before the entrance just for a moment and listened.

Chatter carried softly on the warm night air, the soft murmur of names exchanged, the nervous cadence of the first introductions. Denisse gave a small smile. So, it begins.

Pushing the door open, a warmth greeted her that sent tingles up her arm.

Her eyes widened at the sight within; the cabin was practically bursting with life. Plants crowded in the corners of rooms, vines stretched lazily across the near window, and rough sketches of magical beasts adorned every inch of the walls. A gentle, crackling fire was nestled into the far wall, sending heat out into the room that washed over Denisse.

There were books on nearly every available shelf, and sofas the very picture of softness.

More than simply a camp cabin, it felt like… a sanctuary. Denisse eyed the common room; there one student sat on the sofa with a terrarium that held a lounging lizard inside, Another stood nervously in the middle of the room talking to a small brown-haired student named Elara with a silver tabby in a portable carrier and that’s when Denisse had caught sight of her cats eyes. Peering at the girl, Katya bounded lightly onto the arm of a sofa, her silver coat glistening from the firelight, and then sat up and peered at Lumi in Elara’s lap with narrowed, regal eyes. Denisse smirked, “Don’t mind her. She likes to make an entrance,”

Denisse smiled softly. She slid her trunk to sit just in the corner, near a wall "Looks like I'm not the only one who got here early.” Her words, although light in tone held curiosity as her gaze lingered on the terrarium.

“Brought a pet like that with you? Bold. I like it. What have you got in there” Denisse walked towards Elara’s carrier for a moment and peered in the opening seeing Lumi’s amber eyes curious “Not to mention two cats,” Denisse’s smile turned bright “I’m Denisse, I just couldn’t bring myself to be away from magical creatures for a whole month; I thought I’d see what trials they have for us,” She leaned against a nearby sofa, the cool fabric smooth beneath her hand as she observed her new companions. "So, it seems like we are going to be here quite a long time together," she stated softly, a sense of exhilaration bubbling within her.

"This is going to be quite the experience."

Damaris walked across the Hogwarts grounds, her trunk trailing behind her and her backpack on her shoulders. She was thinking about how she would get through the camp without her friends; none of them had signed up, which had really got her down—making her doubt whether she should go at all—though in the end, her father had convinced her to attend. "I hope I get a good bed..." she thought as she walked toward the cabin she had been assigned. Upon reaching it, she sighed and mentally prepared herself for the experience: attending a camp for the first time in her life—far from home, among strangers, and without her friends there for emotional support.
"Why didn't I just stay home?" she whispered as she stepped inside. She took in the interior, noting the vines and drawings of magical creatures adorning the walls, along with many other eye-catching details—though the illustrations of magical creatures she had never seen before particularly captivated her. She moved through the space with her trunk and backpack, looking for a spot to leave her things so she wouldn't have to carry them around. Finding a place at the foot of one of the beds, she set down her trunk; then, with her backpack still on her back, she climbed the ladder of an empty bunk bed to place her pack on the top bunk, claiming it as her own for the duration of the camp. After stowing her backpack, she climbed down and surveyed the room again, beginning to walk around and explore, eager to get a closer look at the drawings of magical creatures on the walls.
As she walked through the cabin, taking in the drawings, the décor, and the peaceful atmosphere, she noticed other kids were already there; she gave them a faint smile and a wave from a distance—too shy to approach and strike up a conversation on her own, at least for the moment. She knew herself well enough to know that on the first day—and perhaps the second—she would be very shy, wanting to leave and stay as unnoticed as possible; but once she grew accustomed to the surroundings and the other kids, she would feel confident enough to chat naturally, just as she did with her friends during classes at Hogwarts.

Kennedy was fit to explode. She was equally excited and nervous for camp, filling her with a hum of energy. She clenched and un-clenched her fists repeatedly to try and expel some of it, but it didn’t seem to work very well. It was her first year at summer camp, she had bypassed the opportunity last year, too afraid to leave her parents behind. But this year was different, this year she knew people and had real friends, like Denisse. The thought of her friend from Hufflepuff helped the excitement win over as Kennedy forced herself to enter the cabin. As she did, she nearly dropped Valor’s cage.
It was a jaw dropping sight, plants filled the space, making it appear warm and inviting. The armchair whispered to Kennedy, begging her to snuggle up with a book from one of the lined shelves in it. The walls were adorned with sketches and colorings of creatures that Kennedy was itching to compare to her own works of art. It was like a picture of Kennedy’s dreams come to life. She felt tears of joy prickle in her eyes at the sight of a room so perfect, but she quickly cleared them away as she turned her attention to the actual people in the room.
5 others were dispersed about the common room, including Denisse. Kennedy seemed to have entered mid-way through some introductions, hearing only Denisse when she said
“So, it seems like we are going to be here quite a long time together”
Wanting to start off on the right foot, Kennedy gathered what little courage she had.
“Uhm, hello, I really hope I’m not interrupting. My name's Kennedy and it's uhm really nice to meet you all. I mean I haven’t really met you yet but I mean- what I’m trying to say is I’m excited to get to know everyone.”
While it might not have necessarily been the right foot, it was still a step in the right direction.

Octavian stood outside the cabin for a few seconds trying to mentally prepare himself for how much social interactions he was about to do. After a moment he took a breath and pushed the door open.

The first thing he noticed was all the pets carts there where.

Huh... how do you even get a pet?

The cabin looked... nice.

No.

Not nice.

Cozy.

There were books everywhere, a fireplace, and drawings of magical creatures all over the walls. It honestly looked pretty cool.

There were also a lot of people.

Great... people.

He knew he wasn't going to be alone at camp. He'd known that from the start. Still a small part of him had hoped there wouldn't be this many.

He dragged his trunk inside and looked around until he found an empty bottom bunk.

He carried his stuff over dropped his trunk beside the bed, set his backpack down, then looked at the mattress for a second just to make sure nothing was on it.

Good enough.

He walked back into the main room.

Still a lot of people.

He listened to bits of different conversations instead of joining in.

Cats.

A lizard.

Someone was introducing themselves.

Someone else was talking about camp.

Octavian ended up standing near one of the bookshelves

Then it hit him.

Everyone had been saying their names.

"...Um, hello," he said after a second. "My name's Taylor."

There was a short pause.

"...Nice to meet you all."

Eevee walked in. She loved creatures. Animals always intrested her. And the room....it was what she had dreamed of, and more. Looking around, Eevee couldn't stop herself thinking "Ok, a month just being ignored while everyone else bonds." She shoved that thought away. She would make freinds. She smiled feeblaly. Time for her summer of magic animals to begin.
