It was chilly out. Lovely. Nico took in a deep breath of fresh air before setting out. The winter up north was alot colder than in the south. It was very distinct. Her new fluffy coat, sent over by her mother, kind of looked like it could be made out of teddy bear fluff. It was soft in dark blue and a little bit too big. But she'd grow into it. The sleeves stopped only at her finger tips. Nico didn't mind. It was cosy and fun to pull ones legs in. It could become a small tent. A tent for one.

Today, her pet Pip had decided to burry itself in the fluff of her hood as she happily strided over the Grounds. He had been anxiously waiting to go outside. To be fair, it had been a while since she brought him on another walk across the Hogwarts grounds. 'Some fresh air will do you good, Pip. And it's even just a little bit sunny today.' Perfect. The young prefect felt happy and smiled as Pip nuzzeld her hair. Looking over her shoulder at him peeking through few strawberry red locks. Nico giggled and gently scratched his tiny head. He was such a fool. A silly little ball of fluff that just knew what would melt her heart and what would carry her on. A small fluffy hero.

The Great Lake seemed quiet today. Just the way she liked it. 'I think we have the Lake for ourselves, Pip.' She rubbed her finger against his tiny fluffy cheek, as he squinted his eyes with delight. Nico still hadn't regretted the day she bought him. Honestly, she'd prefer to say 'adopted'. 'Buying' a pet sounded so cold... The dhampir just wanted to give him the warmth and love he cleary deserved. After a few minutes of walking, she noticed something in the corner of her eye. Someone was seated by the lake, leaning against the tree, reading a book. Did she know her?... Oh! It's Serena! The Hufflepuff girl she met at the Halloween Party. Nico wasn't sure if she ever thanked her for approaching her that day. Her loneliness was washed away when her warm personality showed up. 'Let's go say hi, Pip.'

Walking over, Nico shyly waved at the Hufflepuff before carefully kneeling down near her. 'H-Hi, Serena. It was Serena, right?' With a soft blush on her cheeks, as her social skills were still on edge, she smiled at her. Pip carefully rolled down her fluffy sleeve and sat in the palm of her hands. They were resting on her knees, where he could curiously look up at the new face.

Her eyes scanned the page in front of her in utter boredom. She had just opened her book, read about three lines and was already rereading the same three lines over and over again because she could not get passed them. The little brown rat in front of her kept distracting her. Or perhaps it was the fact that she had no real motivation to study today. She hated studying, after all. Any distraction was a good one. Well, not in terms of actually succeeding in studies but good in terms of appreciated to prevent her from getting bored.

Speaking of distractions, however, she heard a voice say her name. The voice was rather timid and quite shy. She could not say she recognised it straight away but she glanced up to see a young redhead that did look familiar. She blinked a little, unsure why she looked so familiar. "Oh! Nico! From last year's halloween party, right? Yeah, it's Serena!" She exclaimed after a moment, the smile breaking out on her face as she spoke enthusiastically towards the Slytherin.

Pizza had stopped rolling the ball, having heard noises and just frozen still. He did not move, clearly eyeing up the new arrivals. "Oh my! A pygmy puff? Adorable! What's his or her name?" Serena continued, her tone of voice full of energy as she stared at the little purple ball of fluff. Her book had immediate started to close, clearly bored of studying already.

To Nico's delight, the Hufflepuff recognised her. Why wouldn't she? For some reason the dhampir always felt like she had no real presence in this world and everytime soemone met her with happiness and excitement, it nearly made her cry. She did have friends in this world.

Serena's energy was astounding. Like a gentle radiant sun. A warm presence that soothed Nico's aching heart. Her iceblue eyes dropped down onto a small rat, rolling around in the grass until he noticed the new playpal arriving at the scene. Oh. Right. Rats were concidered pets too. Her mother hated them. Just like mice. Rodents were so fast and squeeky, everything her mother disliked. Nico thought differently. They were cute. Maybe their tail was abit weird. Abit meaty. Not hairy like the rest of its body. As it eyed at both the dhampir and Pip, Nico couldn't help but smile enchanted. It was so adorable. Serena had noticed the fluffball in her hands who on his turn had noticed the brown rat in the grass just now.

'Oh! Yeah. This is Pip. He's a boy.' The purple sphere of fluff dropped down into the green and wiggled his nose in the air, taking in Pizzas scent. It wasn't scary to him because off he went to say hi. With a cheerful squeak, Pip greeted the fellow rodent.

'Back in... well, the Muggleworld, we don't have these. Pygmy Puffs. I honestly don't know much about them but when I saw him in the shop I... couldn't take a different one. The... shopkeeper was pretty odd but...' The redhead tried to block out the throwing against the wall scenario and cleared her throat, putting her mind back on Serena. '... uhm well he's a treasure. And who's this little fellow? He looks so pretty.' Seated in the grass, Nico put up the collar of her teddyfluff coat and gently rested her hands on her knees.

"I love him!" Serena exclaimed as she looked at the beautiful purple ball of fluff that she now knew as Pip. She nodded as Nico explained the reason why she bought him. That made sense. She never really thought about it before, having grown up with magic all around but it dawned on her that most muggleborns would probably find pygmy puffs or owls more exciting than rats and cats, which seemed to be common for them. Though, she did not really know if people kept rats as pets or simply considered them vermin in the muggle world. Tilting her head, she frowned a little in confusion, "What do you mean odd?" She asked, in regards to the shopkeeper that Nico mentioned.

When she went to the pet store, the shopkeeper was great. But then again, she thought pretty much everyone was great usually... Oddness was not really something Serena thought in regards to most people outside of Hogwarts. After all, Hogwarts itself was full of oddities. The rest of the world seemed rather normal in comparison! Her eyes lit up within an instant as Nico mentioned the little brown rat that played around with the ball not too far away, seemingly minding his own business, "Ahhh this is Pizza. Well, Pizza Rat but I usually just call him Pizza for short," She explained as though it was the most normal thing in the world. After all, she was not odd. The name was not odd either! It was just normal, right?

Pizza had stopped playing for a few moments, frozen as he watched the new intruders. But after some moments of staring, he seemed to relax and just carried on pushing the ball. Though, he started to push it closer to Serena, perhaps a thing he was doing out of comfort or familiarity. She had no idea but she watched him nonetheless.
