Physical Description: She is a 4’11” tall girl with long straight black hair that fall past her shoulders. Her large, expressive black eyes and faint smile create a warm and gentle impression. She has pale skin and sharp fingernails, dressing in a comfy outfit that the light tone brings out her calm and charming presence despite her unsettling aura.

Mental Description: Rina is cheerful, gentle, and compassionate. Sometimes she find it hard to refuse requests from others and may be taken advantage of by those around her. Honesty and loyalty are well defined her as she has never been interested in grace or glory. Yet her sensitive emotions can make her somewhat unpredictable, leaving others to wonder what lies beneath her gentle exterior. She tends to overthink important decisions and often hesitates when choosing what to do. All she ever dream is to find a best friend whom she could completely place her trust in.

History: Rina Kusakabe was actually born in Tokyo, but after a year she was born, her parents moved to Osaka and raised her there. Her house was surrounded by forests, rivers, and old shrines that had stood for centuries. The Kusakabe family was nothing more than a warm and loving household to the ordinary eye. Her father, Kensei Kusakabe, worked mostly from home and often disappeared on “business trips” after sunset, while her mother, Yuki Kusakabe, took care of the house. The truth, however, was far more magical. Kensei was a vampire who had long abandoned the violent customs of his kind, choosing to live peacefully among humans after meeting Yuki, a half-blood witch who was one of the top graduates at Mahoutokoro. The home was built on mutual trust, patience, and genuine love, as they valued kindness above their blood ties.

Rina had learned she was different from other people. Kensei taught her to blend in with humans, keeping her claws and fangs hidden at a young age. It seemed a bit strict to her, especially when she was really hungry. Her fangs always extended automatically, no matter how much she tried to hide them. Still, she grew up fine, innocent, and kind as the family wished her to be. When she grew older, she noticed her father looked noticeably different from most Japanese people, and she had never met her grandparents from both sides of her family. Yet, she was too hesitant to ask, as neither Kensei nor Yuki ever spoke about their relatives. Kensei had never once mentioned his Transylvanian vampire bloodline, and Yuki never once brought her to visit her grandparents during holidays. She never realized that everything her parents did was meant to protect her from the hatred that existed beyond the walls of their peaceful home. Neither side of Rina’s family had ever been accepting of Dhampirs. Kensei’s vampire family saw them as an impure deviation from the vampire bloodline, while Yuki’s family held their own prejudices against those born between magical and non-human bloodlines. Though despite all the secrets she always wondered about, Rina still respected and followed her parents’ way of teaching.

After the small signs of her magical potential became impossible to ignore, she reached the age of seven. She joined Mahoutokoro’s Day Program, where she took her first steps into the magical world alongside other young witches and wizards. Rina had no trouble making friends, but she never became truly close to anyone. Particularly, her parents had strongly emphasized that she not speak about their family or ask too many questions about their past. She was expected to return home on time and rarely invited friends over, always giving them some harmless excuse instead. Rina did not fully understand why she had so many rules to follow, but she knew there were parts of herself that she could never tell anyone about. Perhaps that was why, despite being cheerful and friendly to everyone around her, she never had a best friend.

First Magic: One summer evening, when she was five years old, Rina was fascinated by many things, and one of them was the small paper lanterns with beautiful patterns painted across their surface. Yuki happily bought it for her, saying it would be perfect for their home. After returning to her house, Rina excitedly helped her mother decorate it, holding it against the wall. She wished it could be glowing. Then, the lantern burst into a gentle golden light suddenly. Brighter and brighter. The room fell silent before her parents exchanged their smiles, proud of their only beloved daughter who had just shown the first sign of her first instance of magic.
