No. Absolutely not.
Jay was not prepared to come back to school and listen to a lecture! They had never had those in first year and now they apparently did.
Someone kill me. I beg of you
She decided to just give up and draw in her sketch book, she ended up drawing one of her classmates as she usually did whenever she was bored. As the lesson went on in the background Jay became increasingly aware that there was probably homework. Homework. And she wasn’t even listening to the teacher talk.
Jay huffed in annoyance and continued to draw, see homework and how she would complete it was a problem for future Jay. Not for present Jay to worry about. As her drawing slowly came together she noticed other students falling asleep, not paying attention or just zoning out completely.
Looks like not everyone is ready for back to school just yet
She thought, scanning the charms classroom and the rows of desks to see who else was dozing off in the morning sunshine pouring through the windows. Jay squinted to look out at the sky to see owls carrying letters that hadn't made it to breakfast into the owlery.
Maybe there's one for me
Jay had been expecting a letter. A howler most likely. From her dad. Her hair turned black at the thought, the inky mass settling messily.
I'll go up during history class

Aelis listened to the teacher, she was in second year! She survived her first year! Now this year, she will have the best grades of her class and whole year. For that goal, she needs to stay focused on class.
Last summer, when she came back home, she wasn’t greeted by excited hugs or smiles. Only coldness surrounded the house, no more warmth. Her grandmother and mother told her to come in the living room for a “talk”, by that they meant; asking how the fuck did you land in Slytherin and not Ravenclaw like all your whole goddamn family. Her answer was very philosophical and intelligent: “I don’t know.”. That’s how she responded. Her grandmother almost fainted while saying “My grand-daughter is a snake! A manipulator!”, it took Aelis all her will to not scream at her. Slytherins were always painted as the villain of the story.
But honestly? She doesn’t care. She’s a fucking Slytherin, deal with it. She’s the baddie she thinks she is. She’s ambitious and smart. She will never let anyone tell her she’s supposed to be a Ravenclaw. She is a Slytherin. She may be the black sheep of the family now, but she doesn’t care. She is a strong woman who will not bow to her family.
After a while of class, she felt observed, she looked behind her to see a girl. With her sketchbook and pencil in hands, she was drawing. Aelis wasn’t sure what, but she was drawing. She will ask her after class what she was doing.

Jay could hear people yawning and muttering complaints as the class neared its end and Jay was so ready to jump out of her seat and leave the room but if she did that... she could just imagine the yell of five points from Slytherin from her teacher who was trying to hype up the class.
Just give it a few days, a few days at least...
The dust particles on her desk shifted quickly as she blew on them, her head resting on her sketchbook, she had given up on the drawing and decided to look around the classroom. It hadn't changed much over the summer holidays and she hadn't really thought too much about it.
In muggle schools classrooms changed all the time, she remembered an owl containing a letter from her friend that was mainly her just complaining about her high school teacher moving the classroom around nearly once a week while they were learning, Jay could only imagine how annoying that would be, just listening to chairs scrape the floor while learning.
About what seemed like twenty minutes later, the class finished and everyone leaped up out of their chairs, weirdly in a hurry to get to the next class that would be the similar amount of boring as the last one. Waiting for the parade of students to leave, Jay packed up her books and pencils, tucking her artists pencil into her pocket as she waited.

Aelis was a bit relieved the class ended, she wanted to have good grades and everything, but it doesn’t mean she didn’t find them boring. She got up and packed her things while humming a little, she started to learn a new song and she couldn’t stop singing it. After a while, she noticed the girl she saw drawing earlier. She took her things and walked to the girl with a small smile.
“Hey, I saw you drawing in class… may I ask to look at it? I’m sure it is beautiful.”
The girl was beautiful, saying the opposite would be a lie, a goddamn big lie. If Aelis is right, the girl was not in her class last year. She seemed really kind… for a Slytherin? For now, every Slytherin she met, (cough, cough @Nicandro Henderson) was downright mean and annoying. Aelis noticed the girl bored look, maybe she was annoying her? It was kind of… weird, Aelis is annoying her, isn’t she?
“Hum… I’m sorry to annoy you, have good day.”
She tried a small smile and a little shy wave before she hurried to walk away. “Real smooth, Tavis-” she stopped the end of her thought, she’s not a Tavis anymore, but who cares? Her family is homophobic and they have stick up their asses, only her father is the less annoying.

speaking: bold word count: 538 outfit: •
“Hey, I saw you drawing in class… may I ask to look at it? I’m sure it is beautiful.” Without looking up, Jay sighed and kept packing her stuff away, debating answering her classmate but apparently she took too long for the other girls liking “Hum… I’m sorry to annoy you, have good day.”
With another tired sigh, Jay spoke aloud so the girl could hear her. “The people” she said without looking up “the classroom” Jay packed the last of her things away “all of it, whatever I can I guess”
Most of the class had left only leaving Jay and the girl opposite her in the now empty classroom “I just draw, it’s nothing special” she said, slinging her bag over her shoulder and sitting on the desk cross legged “it’s not as if anything specific is calling to me, it’s more the whole world”
I want to put it all on a page, draw it, paint it, photograph it…
Any way Jay could turn nature and her world into art was a window into her creativity. After all, making art was easier than talking about her feelings, why would she talk about her emotions quietly when she could be louder with her art?
Now the noise of their classmates had faded into the distance, heading towards their next class. Remembering the timetable. Jay knew that they had about fifteen minutes before they had to be in the next class. History.
You’ll catch me dead before you catch me in that class, no thanks I’ll be painting on my furniture
With that she hopped off the desk and went to the door, looking back at the girl standing alone in the classroom, the sun hitting her face just right to make her hair glow and her eyes shine vibrantly and in that moment:
I could paint that.
She tilted her head a bit, trying catch every angle of the scene, the rays of sunlight, the darker shadows in the corner of the room and the softness of the magical energy left in the room from the spell casting.
Jay slowly righted herself as she noticed a certain brown and cream coloured ferret darting behind and in between the table legs like it was a maze with no walls
So that’s where he went…
She crouched down in the doorway, holding her bag open so Nacho could zoom inside and cozy up in her scarf and that he did, he quickly ran into the bag and as Jay lifted it up, she felt him moving around, making space for himself in her scarf Winnie had knitted for her as a gift before she left for Hogwarts last year. Jay stiffened at the memory. Struggling to come to terms that her and Winnie Anbella. Winnie. Winter. Win. Weren’t talking anymore and that always hit like the trains they used to ride to school together. Five days a week. Twice a day. “I’m not going to History, I’ll see you in a few hours?” She left the question hovering. Maybe rhetorical maybe it could be answered. That was up to her classmate standing in the sun looking like someone who had dropped from whatever was up in the sky.
