Fluffy Encounters
Three days until graduation; it felt so odd to even conceive, let alone say aloud. Tomorrow Aly and the rest of her fellow Hogwarts students would return to their Scottish palace, and then less than forty-eight hours later, she would cross the Black Lake, one final journey with the rest of the seventh-year class for their last foray as students. Twenty-nine of them had made it to graduation, after all this time.Banner by @Erendriel Ravaxidor

It seemed like a dream.
And yet, perhaps it still wasn't quite real to her because she was on one last international trip with her schoolmates. During her time as a N.E.W.T.-level student of one of the Eleven major magical institutions, Aly had visited a total of four others: Beauxbâtons first, then Tenūsa, shortly after Koldovstoretz, and now Castelobruxo . She hoped that these sorts of international bonding events would continue on long after her graduation; seeing the other academies, the beautiful landscapes of their countries and the kindness and hospitality of their welcoming students, was certainly one of her favourite parts of the last two years. That was why she had wandered off to her second petting zoo of the year on the morning of her last full day at the Brazilian wizarding school, without any of her mates or even her favourite of the Castelobruxo students, her longtime pen pal and close friend @Manu Macedo - to enjoy just a bit of time by herself, with gorgeous scenery and friendly cute animals, before life became all hectic and wild and suddenly so very adult, as it would in the coming days.
A young girl was explaining to the other gathered students - mostly younger children, though Aly was used to being one of the elder ones in these sorts of events by now - about the different types of creatures, but the seventh-year stuck mostly to the back, half-listening as she eyed tall jungle trees and the golden pyramid of the school, as majestic as Manu had described through years of letters. The brunette sat in one corner of the area, nearest the guinea pigs, and absentmindedly gave scritches to one of the little creatures after it crawled into her lap; it was like a brown and smaller version of her cat, Dauncey, and though Aly missed her big silver baby terribly, she was also suddenly glad he had stayed behind at Hogwarts instead of coming with her on the trip. He'd probably have tried to eat the guinea pigs, and the last thing Aly needed in the days before her coming graduation was for her fat fluffy prince to start an inter-school war over guinea pig consumption.
The little creature made a purring sound in her lap, writhing comfortably under her gently scratching fingers, and Aly smiled down at it, allowing herself to devote both hands to the animal's happiness. What a calm and pleasant moment this was. Even with one of the llamas spitting nearby, it seemed that nothing could disturb the serenity of it all - not even the looming, impending thought of a real adult life. (At least she had a job she'd be immediately off to - and one that interested her, to boot!)
Carefully scooping up the guinea pig with one hand, Aly used the other to push herself off the ground and wander with the furry little being over to the food. There were some grasses and greens there, and Aly took a handful, holding them up to its little wiggling nose and buck teeth; to the guinea pig, it must have seemed like a five-star meal, for it tore into the food immediately as the Ravenclaw cradled it gently in her hand. When the creature had finished eating all of the delicious plants she had offered it, Aly crouched to softly put it back on the ground. "Someone else will give you the rest, little one," she whispered, watching as it crawled over her shoe-clad foot and then zipped back off to where the rest of its guinea pig friends were waiting. That reminded her that she, too, had mates waiting for her, and the seventh-year turned and went, a soft smile on her freckled face.

| x |
x
The unfamiliar scents had already bitten into his nose before he had even taken his pyjamas from his luggage. It was now the second time Lorenzo had travelled to another country without the Vincenti name accompanying him. After Russia, his father Salvatore had deemed somewhere warmer more fitting, and Lorenzo himself had not been opposed to the idea of further broadening his horizons by visiting other schools. The journey had originally been arranged around the Capture the Flag event. Although it stood upon the itinerary as the goal of their visit, Lorenzo had concerned himself with it scarcely, if at all. His thoughts remained far too entangled in the teaching structures of Castelobruxo. x
Ever since that one moment shortly after their arrival, his attention had continued to slip. It seemed to have become the quiet playing of a violin amidst the loudest brass orchestra in Austria. Rather than remaining stern and distinctly settled within his mind, it now vanished beneath the rhythmic noise. Nonetheless, Lorenzo’s blue eyes remained upon Naiane. She was a pretty student. The ends of her dark hair resisted its smoothness in a way he found fascinating, bending into gentle curls as though it tried to greet the sun. She was in the middle of thanking the guests with graceful courtesy for their presence, when Lorenzo's thoughts wandered once more. They travelled back to the feast — and to the origin of the orchestra: Headmaster Santiago. The boy had been able to observe him from amongst the students of the different schools. The headmaster’s presence was physically commanding. His eyes, though they had never met Lorenzo’s own, had stolen their way into his memory and now refused to find the exit. Lorenzo inclined his head gently to one side. His neck, ordinarily held in strict alignment, attempted to call him back to the present through morality and strict upbringing. Salvatore Vincenti's voice echoed in the back of his mind. Yet it failed miserably. The young Veela’s lips parted, and his features softened. He stood there with a dreamlike expression upon his face, entirely distracted from the discomfort of wrinkled clothes and humidity. The flags were forgotten. Even the uncomfortable pressure of his shoes disappeared somewhere between his interest in, and reverence, for the older wizard. There was no attention left for Naiane either. She was speaking, clearly. Lorenzo assumed it concerned one of the animals she had referred to as a llama, though the details no longer wished to settle in his thoughts. One of his father’s colleagues had already informed him sufficiently about the long-limbed quadrupeds. The soft creatures with their elongated necks were a new design, originating from a familiar animal's special environment. They were homosexual horses. Llama, Lorenzo therefore deduced with a slow blink of dense lashes, must be the Brazilian word for horse. Only a short while later, however, the word alpaca pressed itself into the cotton wool of his thoughts, otherwise occupied by Santiago’s cheekbones. The headmaster of Castelobruxo was nowhere to be seen, yet his face continued to circle before Lorenzo’s eyes like an oil painting in Hogwart's vast corridors. At the word alpaca, the framed fractured. It dissolved within his mind, and transformed the stern brows into the elongated face of a softer llama. His gaze shot towards the animal in utter confusion. It was more cushioned than the other horses. Its ears stood upright like furry bag charms. Its muzzle seemed, even from a distance, appropriate to sleep upon. Naiane was in the midst of explaining that one had to present an open palm facing upwards when Lorenzo had already set himself in motion and taken a step closer. The little animal had white fur and appeared to the young Italian as though it must have realised rather early that it preferred members of its own sex within the equine species. The possibility that his father’s colleague might merely have been making a sarcastic joke did not occur to him. |

OOC note: Reducio1) While everything written is true for Dido, much is intentionally incorrect (eg: Dido is not in Ravenclaw)
2) Apologies if this is too late!
On the 27th, Dido had woken up absolutely exhausted, every muscle aching after the chaotic events of the day before. Even after she had pulled herself up into a vaguely standing position, gotten ready, ignored Tina, and eaten a quick breakfast, she was still wincing every time she curiously prodded the quickly darkening bruises left by inconveniently placed tree roots. It was difficult to ignore Tina’s concerned eyes when the girl noticed Dido’s discomfort but, unwilling to even risk starting a conversation with the Ravenclaw, Dido kept her eyes trained down and her back slightly turned to face Tina.
Despite her exhaustion, both from Capture the Flag and the difficult night laying “asleep”, trying not to make too much noise with her shallow breathing, Dido was not going to miss the opportunity to pet some alpacas. She, and several other students, followed one from the Castelobruxo cohort. Dido was almost certain their guide was the same girl who had watched their game the previous day- she had the same pretty dark hair and taller silhouette, which was all really Dido could tell from the thick of the game while the girl was in the observation tower. Deciding it wouldn’t matter either way, Dido gave the girl, who introduced herself as Naiane, a slight smile, glad she could interact with someone there without panic.
Naiane took them over to a few llamas, roaming around a small area and lazily chewing their food. Dido grinned at the first, introduced as André, who seemed more interested in the growing crowd than their guide’s attempts to pet him. As Naiane began to talk about the next llama: a gorgeous silvery one with an expression that immediately reminded her of her family cat, Hellie; Dido twisted through the small crowd to get as close as possible to the first llama, determined to stroke at least one before they got too crowded. She edged towards the llama and, slowly as to avoid both offending André and Naiane’s gaze, Dido reached out a hand. She imitated the way the Naiane had flattened her hand before touching the llama and, smile growing by the second, she brushed her fingers against André’s chocolate coat.
Satisfied with her short, albeit fulfilling, encounter with the tall llama, Dido took a few steps back and faced Naiane once more. The guide was just starting to lead the students over to the alpacas and Dido quickly joined the crowd, anxious to learn about the animals she had been so excited to meet. She chuckled quietly as the students were warned about offending the alpacas before falling silent as she strained to hear more. Naiane introduced two of the alpacas, Lua and Carminha. They were sweet. Both seemed like happy animals, Naiane even described how joyful Carminha was. But, at Naiane’s description, Dido brightened before frowning. The alpaca was like Tina. And Tina wasn’t with Dido.
Sniffing, she turned away from the alpacas, choosing not to join the students moving to pet them and instead followed Naiane once more to the final collection of fluff: the guinea pigs. Dido forced herself to smile at each small little ball of fur in turn, even joining in the ring of laughter as the taller girl mentioned the last one’s name. Dido wasn’t quite sure why the name was funny, or even who the original Thales Sr was, but she embraced the feeling of warmth that came with sharing a joke, even if it wasn’t hers to share.
Intending to head towards the guinea pigs, Dido took a couple of steps towards them before stopping suddenly as Mikaela, of course, arrived in her view. Cheeks reddening, though this was unseen over her sunburn, Dido turned away from the petting area and faced away, staring up into the trees. She blinked away the prickling tears forming in her eyes and set her gaze on a parrot in a tree in the distance. It almost looked like Terrie from home. That was nice.

27th June 2026x

xxxThe day melted into the next. Ellaine – she’d felt quite frankly exhausted after the competition – had slept the night away with nary a thought for tomorrow. She’d woken up feeling distorted, not remembering a single concrete concept from her dreams. An odd sensation, but nevertheless it motivated her to get away!
Hearing of the morning’s feeding event? It sparked a curiosity in her, and Ellaine felt compelled to join; even more so when she realised Skylar was going as well. Within a quarter of an hour, she’d stuffed all her items into her bag: her cold water bottle, a novel – not that she’d read them today–, a notebook, as well as her hat. Not that she’d even need them today, what with the low-hanging sun, but it was the thought that counted.
On the site itself; Ellaine now made her way through the crowd. Every now and them she'd bump into somebody, whether it be another’s elbow on her sides, or a brush of their skin – she’d mutter a “sorry” or “excuse me”; yet even despite that she finally had the front-row seat to the show.
The lady at front – a professor, she assumed – introduced herself as Naiane. Ellaine mouthed the name to herself, eyes focusing on her face; the way she talked.
Hearing that they were starting off with llamas, Ellaine perked up, craning her head over to have an even better look over her current position. Shameless, mildly truthful apologies spilled out as she moved to be at the front.
The first llama, she delightfully noted, was a proud llama! An alpha – which she hadn’t even known of – and his name was… ‘André’. Odd, but Ellaine certainly did not mind the French-sounding name when she got to lay her eyes on his fur. An endless fascination borne out of a childhood show’s episode… Ellaine had to wonder how different they really feel when compared to a cat’s fur.
The second llama was no less beautiful than the other. In fact, Ellaine herself would say that Princess was the best of the lot! “Just look,” she’d insist, “look at that glorious, silvery, goddess-like coat!”
Ellaine had kept a close eye on her, watching as she seemed to preen with the students’ attention – or was she imagining that? Nevertheless, Princess was a happy dam; she was a prideful lady; and she did not like unworthy suitors.
She watched, eyes wide open on her actions… and so she could not miss how Princess looked. Where there had been a pleased upturn of the llama’s mouth – well, now there sat a glare. Or, more accurately, a llama’s version of a glare. Princesa was glaring at another llama, an unwanted suitor; quite possible daring him to go forth with his silly proposition. Ellaine huffed out a short laugh, surely seeming strange to others – insane, even!
“A high standard—?” Ellaine muttered to herself, eyeing how Princesa just spat at the offending llama, a speculative glint shining in her eyes. “‘s common sense,” she decided wisely.
The third llama! Was it only her imagination, or did it look awfully a lot like her neighbour’s cat’s? Ellaine simply get the ungodly urge to just approach and… gaze longingly at his eyes? Pet his fur? Affirm to his demands? Criminally adorable! she corrected to herself. Joāo, a hat-thieving fiend? How does one do that?
Not much proof to go on, so far. Ellaine, with a curiosity that greatly exceeded her own sensibilities, carefully approached Joāo. She wouldn’t be doing much, of course. All she wanted was to observe what he did to hat-bearing people, and—
Just as she was about to pull out her lovey hat, Joāo suddenly made his way for a certain direction. Specifically, a student probably near her years, who was wearing a… hat. Well, she thought, turns out the testing phase wouldn’t take much to get through.
Elaine watched with fascination as the llama swooped down to get at the hat, succeeding… Surely an interesting way to fill one’s dietary needs, but Ellaine herself wasn't too peckish on what to eat. Why would she snap at a llama for what they loved?
Really! Shaking her head with a rueful smile, Ellaine made way for one of the calmer-looking llamas, readying herself for the cloudiness of their coat. She wasn't regretting things yet, so she might as well make new memories, no?Reducio
