Loren walked in sulking as usual and hurried to an empty desk in the very back because she really did not feel like listening. She felt more exhausted than she had in a long time, but this was what sleeping in a new place would be like for at least another 2 weeks.

She pulled out her text book and shoved it to the far corner of her desk. She tried. She really did try very hard to keep her eyes open but no matter what she did she couldn't fight off the drowsiness and she threw her hood up and thought I'll just close them for a second.

Suddenly she hears a bunch of foot steps and finds everyone moving around to get a partner. She was very confused and then suddenly a group of students talking and laughing walked in almost 20 minus late for the lesson.

"Great." she grumbled "I have to work with a partner" she hissed angrily under her breath. She stood up and asked to be excused for a moment. She stepped into the corridor and took a few long deep breathes. She straightened her shoulders a bit and walked back in and slunk back to the desk she had been dosing on. She pulled her chair out and quietly sat down, put her hood up closed her eyes and as soon as her head hit her arm she fell asleep instantly.

“Good lord.”

That was his reply to most things he wasn’t a fan of. Group projects was one of those things. Unfortunately, you can’t just get out of group projects unless you can skip class, and his grades were beginning to suffer from all the times he’d skipped.

Wyatt was terrible at working in groups, and he preferred to work by himself. The universe heard his good lord, apparently, and he saw another student unconscious laying on the desk. That meant he could work alone, and give the sleeping Hufflepuff the notes later.

The assignment was to write an essay on the Importance of the Defense Against the Dark Arts. What are you supposed to write about that? Dark arts are bad, and you may have to fight them one day? It’s not exactly rocket science, is it?

The sleeping girl would be the perfect partner, so he picked up his textbook and sat by her. He began flipping through the pages of his DADA textbook, looking for dates and random facts to use to look more intelligent or whatever. Turning his head, he watched the girl.

Sure, you can get tired, but to fall asleep in class? He was tempted to say nothing, and sit back and watch as Hufflepuff got house points taken away, but he couldn’t resist poking fun at the Badger. It was just far too easy to pass up.

He slammed the book shut, and it made a loud enough startling noise to wake the girl up.

“Good morning. Fall asleep in class often? Or did you just choose today to lose Hufflepuff house points?”

She heard a book slam close right next to her and with a gasp she sat bolt upright immediately. She groaned as she had been in the middle of a great dream were she din't mess everything up. She turned to look at the boy who had disturbed her slumber.

He was a Slytherin, he had light blonde hair and finally now being fully awake processed what he said.
"Good morning. Fall asleep in class often? Or did you chose today to lose Hufflepuff house points?". Her face went pink and she said, "I-I... No I didn't its not my fault its hard to understand and boring for that matter!".

He looked like he was about to start laughing at her so she quickly said "who are you anyway or are you just a Slytherin with nothing better to do then bother me?". She was actually confused she had never seen him before but to be honest after being sorted she really paid the Slytherin house no mind.

Suddenly she thought *oh no... he's my partner fir this project isn't he* and she slammed her head on the desk and said "You better hope you are good at this class because if you rely on me I can guarantee you will fail". She looked up at him then at the floor.

"who are you anyway or are you just a Slytherin with nothing better to do then bother me?"

Though she was awake, and it was likely she’d want to work with Wyatt now, the dark-haired Slytherin didn’t regret the choice he made to poke fun at the Hufflepuff.

“Oh, I’m just a Slytherin with nothing better to do than to bother y- oh, you said that didn’t you?” He kept his expression strictly empty. He was very hard to read. The boy hardly laughed, too. The only thing he did other than scowl was roll his eyes. “I’m Wyatt. You are?”

"You better hope you are good at this class because if you rely on me I can guarantee you will fail."

I’ll be fine.” He looked her up and down, just to mock her, really. “I’m not so sure about you, though.” With that, he began flipping through the pages and jotting down notes on a piece of parchment. As he was writing and looking from the textbook to his paper, he said, “feel free to nap, I’ll survive without you, yet, I have to ask… what kept you up last night?”

He was very curious. What could be the cause of this? Even if you felt as if you were falling asleep in class, wouldn’t you try to skip and leave the room to go somewhere like the Abandoned Toilets for a rest? This Hufflepuff didn’t seem very smart, though, so Wyatt could sort of understand. Sort of.

"oh, I'm just a Slytherin with nothing better to do the bother y- oh you said that didn't you?".

The boys face was well empty no smile or even a glint in his eyes to mimic his attitude. He was hard to read but boy was he annoying."I'm Wyatt. You are?" he said, "I'm loren" she said quietly, and yawned. Compared to the boy she was easy to read her face went pink whenever she was embarrassed and when she was happy you could tell very easily.

At her telling him she wasn't a good person to be partnered with he said "I'll be fine." and looked her up and down, "I'm not so sure about you though". At that she got very upset so what she wasn't good at it, she didn't need that comment. "Feel free to nap", she might just take him up on that offer she was still exhausted.

"I'll survive without you yet, I have to ask... what kept you up last night?".
She studied him for a moment and said "Don't you have trouble sleeping in a new place? I mean on top of that the girl in the bed next to mine has a pigmy puff that coos all night long but I don't sleep well in a new setting".

She suddenly realized the boy hadn't smiled or laughed once, so she asked "Why do you make it impossible to read your emotions..?"

"Don't you have trouble sleeping in a new place?"
“No.”
"I mean on top of that the girl in the bed next to mine has a pigmy puff that coos all night long."
“Ah.”
"But I don't sleep well in a new setting."
“Hm.”

As she went on about how it was difficult for her to sleep, he just mm-ed and ah-ed as he wrote down more and more notes, and as he flipped through the pages of his textbook. He got his answer, but it was a pretty boring one.

"Why do you make it impossible to read your emotions…?"

Turning his head to look her in the eye, he said, “why do you make it so easy to read yours?”

He looked back down at his book and rolled his eyes. There wasn’t a reason that he knew really. Emotions got him in trouble in the past, and he didn’t want to get in trouble again. There was no way he was going to talk to some random Hufflepuff about it though. What was the point?

“Why aren’t you asleep? You’re more tolerable when you’re unconscious.” The Slytherin looked down at his book and sighed. He hadn’t taken nearly enough notes for this bloody essay. He went back to the book. Turning back a few pages he jotted down the names of some dark witches and wizards.

There were so many of them. The worst part was, they were all such interesting people. Wyatt just wanted to know more. He had to remind himself that this was Defense Against the Dark Arts class a few times, and not just the last two words and it would be generally frowned upon if he tried to learn about the evil people’s backgrounds.

The only thing he said to the question he asked was mm, ah and no. Gosh she could tell he didn't like her. "Why do you make it so easy to read yours?", looking her in the eye as he asked.

She was thinking about why he wouldn't tell her when he said "Why aren't you asleep? You are more tolerable when you're, unconscious" he said as he continued jotting notes down. It was like he was trying to avoid her question about emotions so she reached out and slid the text book he was flipping through towards her and snapped it shut.

"I don't know maybe because you slammed a book closed in my ear and now you are making smart ass comments on everything I do so I am just gonna bother you back, and my emotions are easy to read because I want people to understand". she snapped. "Now maybe give me a legitimate answer instead of being an ass and then you can have your stupid text book back". She hated how indirect he was, it was rather annoying. But then again she expected this from Slytherin house.

However she was being rude, she thought. "sorry.... I just don't stop talking sometimes and I can be kind of mean... sorry". Now he might be a little bit more pleasant to her.

"Sorry... I just don't stop talking sometimes and I can be kind of mean... sorry."

“Yes, you can,” Wyatt replied… quite bitterly.
“I suppose you have a point, there, it is my fault you’re awake, but you could go back to sleep at any moment… yet, you continue to question me about my personal life,” he bit out, angrily. This girl was possibly the most annoying Hufflepuff he’d met yet. That was saying something. If Gryffindor didn’t exist, Hufflepuff would be the worst house. “May I have my book back?”

Without waiting, he just took the book himself, sliding it back over to where he sat. He went back to writing more and more notes. Dates of battles, names of heroes, names of villains. Why are there only good guys and bad guys, he asked himself. Nothing is just black and white, there’s always a gray area, one that history books choose not to see.

He slid the book again, to the right of his notes paper (to make it easier to write on the parchment, since he is left-handed). The Snake dipped his quill back into the ink and drew a little bee on the upper left-hand corner of the notes paper mindlessly before scribbling over it just as thoughtlessly and returning to writing boring notes.

"Yes, you can." He said rather sourly. "I suppose you have a point, it is my fault that you are awake, but you could go back to sleep at any moment... yet you continue to question me about my personal life," he seemed to get angrier as he went on. She was about to pick up his book and hit him with it. "I tried to apologize there was no need to tell me I am mean... I know."

"May I have my book back?" and he took it with out waiting for a reply... She thought about what he said, I mean he had a point she kept asking pressing questions. she thought about it but she felt this question would actually make him angry, but she asked anyway "What is your family like, do they miss you? do you send them owls?" she asked and quietly she added on "and you haven't answered the first question I asked you.."

Not really expecting a straight forward answer more like a slap across the face she put her head down, not quite going to sleep but this is to get him to stop complaining about it. He continued jotting down notes and he seemed like he kept doubling back to certain areas to reread like he expected something different.

"What is your family like, do they miss you? Do you send them owls?"

“They’re secret agents for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in America, and I’m here so they can do their job while I’m away and not have to worry about their son being taken hostage and tortured for information. If I sent them owls they’d be compromised.”

He told the semi-dark lie/joke (however Loren may have interpreted it) like he was just chatting about the weather. Mainly, the tone in his voice showed that he didn’t care for what she was asking.

“Unfortunately, now that I’ve told you, I have to kill you.” As he spoke, he continued writing. Pausing, he looked over his notes, let out a small “hm,” and picked up a new piece of parchment to begin the rough draft of the essay he had to write.

The boy just didn’t care to share information about his life.

"And you haven't answered the first question I asked you…"

“No, I have not,” he replied, simply. Usually, the first question was “where do your scars come from,” so he was glad all she was asking about was the way he chose not to make silly faces that match his emotions and feelings. It was a waste of energy and time.
