The Mark of It
Ever the scholar, Silvio made his way into the library at Beauxbâtons to study for his classes quietly. Generally speaking, there weren’t many exams this early into his third year at school, so he had taken that time to settle into another year. As he walked to his usual study corner, the young Accardi scanned over the room to see if anything had changed over the summer. Seeing more than one familiar and relatively friendly face, Silvio lifted his chin briefly in acknowledgment as he passed them. Walking with purpose to start his day, the boy felt the shark-tooth necklace gently touch his shirt as he moved, and rubbed his calloused hands together in preparation to hit the books.

Sitting in a comfortable corner chair with an end table, the young student cataloged what he would study and thumbed through his schoolbooks. Silvio didn’t want to overdo it, but he wanted to refresh his memory of lessons from years one and two before following up on what he had learned in his first month of year three at school. With this in mind, he pulled his books for Magical Theory and Care of Magical Creatures out from the small stack he brought in under his arms and opened to a page.
After several pages of review of the Magical Theory book, Silvio noticed the light shift. Looking over at a large stained glass window, his eyes drifted over his rolled-up sleeve that left the old bite marks on his right forearm exposed. He idly rubbed the area, not even noticing the marks, scratching absently at an itch beneath the skin. After a moment, Silvio went back to studying and etching important notes in the corners of his books. This wasn’t the preferred Beauxbâtons way, but it was his father’s habit that worked better for him.
Minutes turned into hours as Silvio became absorbed in his studies. There was a passage that became particularly interesting to him, and so subconsciously he started tracing the words with his fingers. The young wizard used his quill to write another note, underline an important passage that resonated with him, and he barely started to notice the world around him. He was not without his senses, however, as he came back to reality when he heard someone enter — the same instinct that had always tracked movement on the reserve.
Silvio finished the sentence before tearing his eyes from the page to see who had entered. Briefly, he lifted his right arm from the end table to push his hair back, the motion pulling his sleeve further up his forearm — old bite marks catching the light, two distinct sets, faded silver-white against olive skin, long healed but never explained.

| XXXGeneviève sighed to herself for what felt like the trillionth time this school year already. Would this have been a normal school year, and she hadn't been dumped by her boyfriend -apologies- EX-boyfriend, then perhaps her demeanor would have been that more jovial and along the lines of her princess like stature. However right now she wanted nothing more than to... wear a sadly bedazzled tracksuit, curl up in her room and eat a bowl of melted chocolate and dip Cheetos in it... she didn't know anymore. She'd never been broken up with before but now everything hurt and she was pretty sure that at the very least her heart was dying.
Alphonse had introduced her to Cheetos... Technically, Siobhan had introduced Alphonse who had then introduced Geneviève to the cheesy snack.
A choked sob left her throat as she covered her face and thundered through the doors of a room she'd never been in. Four years at Beauxbatons and the Caussade heiress had finally, if albiet unwittingly, entered the library with the intent to bawl her eyes out. Not exactly the perfect place for a breakdown but there were couches and lounge chairs so it seemed as good as any.
There weren't many other students who were taking up space in the library but it wasn't like she was taking a head count of those who would be witness to the pity party she was throwing for herself. She barged into the library with the sounds of her flats clicking against the marble floors. It was the only sound she allowed herself to make that drew unwanted attention but as soon as she was dramatically slumped into a couch cushion, the sounds of sniffles and muffled snarky insults towards Alphonse. Even though he couldn't hear her from wherever he was, she hoped that in his heart she knew how much agony and misery that his actions, and lack thereof, where causing her.
She bumped into the table of a kid about her age. The sting against her hip was nothing short of the sting in her heart, and there wasn't so much as a mumbled apology from her as she threw herself in the first comfortable chair that she could find and sulked heavily.
It was only then that she registered how much her hip hurt from running into the table, and how hard it was becoming a single woman once again, and the gripping chokehold of being a lonely girl finally became too tight. The warmth of a tear track was the only thing that she could feel when the rest of the world felt so cold. She counted as they fell out of her eyes. One turned into seven, turned into fifteen, turned into an unreasonable amount.
A sight to behold, she remained curled in the ball of resentment and shame that she had built up over the last couple months. If only it would go away in an instant.
