WC: 299Selina walked around with a slushy in her hand, the sun touching her pale skin. Selina was enjoying the summer the best she could. Despite all of her friends, from hogwarts, being various places.
On this shiny hot tuesday, her mother forced her out of the house.
Despite her living in the wizarding world , her muggle father insisted on spending the summer in muggle London. She didnt mind the muggle world, the downside was, she wasnt allowed to do magic.
Well she wasnt allowed anyways, but her mother was restrained aswell, which made everything a bit harder.
But her father loved hard work, and reaching your goal through blood and sweat. And in some ways, Selina was also like that. Knowing you had to earn your prize.
As she took her usual route, she stumbled upon something new. The sounds of laughter and screams filled her ears, as she took the sight in. A fair. A fun colorful fair. She stepped in intruiged.
"Come and win your prize!"
"Step up! Step up!" came from left and right, of people desperate to earn some cash. She observed the place. Games, in every corner. Rides other places. And a big fat ferris wheel in the end. But a tiger plushie caught her eye. She adored tigers. And what better way to earn a tiger. She approached the stand, ready to face her exciting challange, of knocking down cans. But then saw a familair brunette.
A hogwarts student? Maybe. She thought. But she intended to find out. The girl was already trying to knock cans down and succesfully knocked them down. Selina took a step beside her, and put on an easy smile.

A cheerful grin was drawn from the stall owner as the final can toppled from the stack with a satisfying clatter. "Well done!" he exclaimed as he reached behind the counter. "Pick any medium prize you like." Diana blinked in mild surprise. She hadn't thought she'd knock all the cans down on her first attempt. Her father had always insisted that accuracy mattered more than strength whenever they played games together during the summer, and apparently some of those lessons had stayed with her. Diana's eyes then drifted over to the prizes. Her eyes lingered thoughtfully before settling on a soft snowy owl plush. It immediately reminded her of Khione. "I'll take the owl please." As the stall owner handed it over, Diana smiled warmly, gently brushing a thumb over its fluffy white feathers before tucking it under one arm. Now Diana has two Khione's, one real one and one as a plush toy.
A voice beside her pulled her away from her prize. She turned to see a girl around her own age standing at the neighboring position with a bright smile. "Thank you," Diana replied, returning the smile. "I wasn't expecting to win." Diana studied the girl for a brief moment. There was something vaguely familiar about her. Hogwarts was a large school, and over the course of her first year Diana had become very good at recognizing faces, even if she had never spoken to the people behind them. "I think I've seen you before," she said after a thoughtful pause. "At Hogwarts?" Her gaze drifted briefly toward the large tiger plush hanging above the game before returning to the girl. "I'm Diana by the way." She shifted the snowy owl plush slightly in her arms. "Going into second year."
Diana then glanced toward the stack of cans that'd already been set up for the next player. "Are you trying for the tiger?" she asked gently. "It's a pretty impressive prize." Diana smiled encouragingly as she stepped aside to give the girl some room. "I think you've got a good chance."

Selina smiled at Diana in relief, as she regonized her aswell.
"Yeah. Im from hogwarts. Going into second year too. Slytherin" Selina added. She was aware she had a bit too much house pride, even though she had expected to become a Ravenclaw, like her father, probably would have been in. And people had always said they looked alike, but apparently not.
But the at the end of the day, it was just a house, and she knew that. She just got carried away sometimes.
"Are you trying for the tiger?" Diana asked gently. Selina glanced at the reason she had approached in the first place.
"It's a pretty impressive prize." Diana smiled encouragingly as she stepped aside to give me some room. "I think you've got a good chance."
"You think so? I mean I'm no chaser, but I think I have a fine shot"
Selina smiled as she payed her muggle money to the man in exchange for a ball.
"Cute owl by the way" Selina pointed at the owl plush in Dianas arms. Selina took her attention back to the game and aimed.
The first can said a clunk, when it hit the ground, and Selina let out a silent yes.
"Name is Selina by the way. Selina Nightheart" another can fell down and after a few other tries, the giant tiger was safe in her possesion. She rubbed its fake fur. So soft and cute. She smiled down at her prize.
"So what brings you here?"

Diana watched as Selina lined up for her throw and when the first can toppled over with a satisfying clunk Diana smiled. "See?" she said quietly. "You had a good throw." She stood patiently to the side and watched one can fall after another. Her snowy owl plush was tucked comfortably against her side. The large tiger was safely in Selina's arms by the end of the game. "It suits you," Diana observed with a soft laugh, nodding toward the plush. "I think it was worth winning." Diana looked down at her owl when Selina commented about her prize before she smoothed one of it's wings with her hand. "Thank you," she replied. "It reminded me of my own owl. Her name's Khione." A fond smile crossed her face. "She's a snowy owl, so I couldn't really leave this one behind." To Diana, it would've felt like leaving Khione behind, and she couldn't do that.
"It's nice to meet you, Selina," she added after the introduction. "I ended up in Ravenclaw." The difference in their Houses didn't seem to matter to Diana. During her first year she'd learned that people were much more than the colors they wore around the castle. Plus, when meeting new people and creating relationships with them, Diana didn't care about what house that person was in.
Diana glanced around the bustling fair at Selina's question. Children hurried between brightly colored stalls carrying oversized prizes while the Ferris wheel turned slowly against the blue summer sky. "My parents wanted to spend the day in London before summer ends," she explained. "We found the fair while we were walking, and it looked like fun." She smiled sheepishly. "I wasn't really planning on playing any games, but then I saw this stall and thought I'd give it one try." Diana looked back at Selina with quiet curiosity. "What about you? Were you hoping to win the tiger all along, or did you just happen to wander in like I did?" Everyone always had a reason to go someplace, even if they didn't know what that reason was. Her gaze briefly drifted toward the Ferris wheel in the distance before returning to Selina. "Have you been enjoying your summer?" she asked. "It feels strange that we'll be back at Hogwarts in only a few weeks."

"Oh no. I stumbled here like you did." Selina glanced at the entrance. "My mother forced me out of the house. To be honest she had every right to." She shrug holding the tiger tighter.
Selina looked back up at Diane's mention of school. "Yeah it really does feel strange. But Im excited none the less. I honestly miss the cold halls and boring classes." she offered an easy smile. It felt nice talking to someone, she hadn't talked to someone in weeks. Only in letters.
She observed the carnival, from game to game, then to the ferris wheel. Then something rather interesting and simple caught her eye. A Dunk Tank. She remember trying one as a kid, and never being able to stop laughing. The suspence of not knowing, when you will meet you watery defeat, until someone hits the target and you fall, drenched. She had loved it. And honestly, Selina longed for some fun right now.
She looked at the game of cans again, and an Idea sparked.
"How about a game?" she asked playfully, putting her atention back to Diane. Nothing was really fun without a bit of competition. "Play a game of cans and the first to topple all the cans win." she nodded towards the stall "The loser has to be the victim of that" she pointed towards the watery tank. "You up for it?" she asked more gently. She hoped she would say yes, but would have no problem of saying no.

When Selina admitted she'd simply wandered into the fair as well Diana couldn't help but smile. "Then I suppose the fair managed to catch both of us," she said with a quiet laugh. "Sometimes those end up being the nicest afternoons."
When Selina spoke about missing Hogwarts Diana nodded in understanding. "I know what you mean," Diana admitted. "I miss seeing everyone every day." Her eyes drifted thoughtfully toward the Ferris wheel. "Even the moving staircases although I don't miss getting lost because of them."
Her attention followed Selina's gaze across the fair until it settled on the brightly painted dunk tank. A blink of surprise crossed her face before she looked back at the Slytherin. "A competition?" she echoed. For a moment she considered it. Diana wasn't typically the sort of person who'd challenge someone to games and she also didn't particularly care about winning. But Selina's enthusiasm was difficult not to smile at and the whole idea felt wonderfully harmless.
A quiet laugh escaped her. "I suppose it wouldn't really be a summer fair without doing something a little silly." She hugged the snowy owl plush a little closer before carefully setting it on the edge of the stall where it would stay dry. "Alright," she agreed, a hint of amusement creeping into her voice. "You're on." The stall owner grinned broadly as he reset the pyramid of cans for both girls. He'd clearly overhead the conversation. "One round each?" Diana suggested, glancing toward Selina. "That seems fair."
Diana took the first ball and rolled it thoughtfully between her hands before aiming carefully. The first throw knocked several cans tumbling. The second throw cleared away a few more except for one stubborn can which seemed to remain balanced on the very top. She paused exhaled softly and threw her final ball. Clunk. The ball had struck the stack however the last can only wobbled dramatically before settling back into place.
Diana simply stared at it for a second before letting out an embarrassed little laugh. "I suppose" she said, looking over at Selina with an amused smile, "I'm already getting an idea of how cold that water is going to be."

Selina eyes lit up when Diane accepted her challange. "Perfect!" she exclaimed. She put the tiger down on the ground, careful not to ruin the fabric. . She grabbed a ball throwing it in the air and catching it. "Be prepared to lose, Diane. I'll tell you I'm an excellent shot" she said with an amused smile.
And so they began. Selina barely payed attention to Diane's throw, focusing on her own pyramid of cans. Honestly she could care less about who ended up wet, but losing was something she dreaded. So she threw ball after ball.
Clunk. Clunk.
Two down, eight more to go. It only took her five more balls and the pyramid was down, with a crash. She smiled triumphly, before looking at Dianes cans. Most of her's was still standing. She had won. "Guess I am an excellent shot" she breathed. She hadn't actually truly belived she was gonna win. Afterall, she didn't know Diane enough to know, that she wasnt some secret talented thrower.
"Guess, I earned my prize. To see you, drenched."
Diane let out an embarressed laugh. "I'm already getting an idea of how cold that water is going to be."
"Oh, it's going to be cold alright" she smiled more kind than amused now. She grabbed her tiger, leading over to the tank. Selina bowed at the stairs leading to the seat where you fall in, for Diane.
"Your earned seat, my lady" Selina said playfully as Diane got up. Selina grabbed a ball ready to hit her target. She threw the ball between her hands, to keep the suspence. Eventually she felt bad for Diane, having to wait.
"Ready?" Selina didn't wait for an answer and threw immediately, hitting the target.
The seat, under Diane, gave in and she hit the water with a splash.
Selina couldn't contain herself from laughing, holding around her stomach. "Is it cold?" she asked amused at the wet girl infront of her. She felt slighly bad seeing how drenched she was. She would use a heating charm, if they were allowed to use magic, but instead she offered the jacket she had around her waist.
"Here, you deserve it. Im the one who dragged you into this in the first place." She offered a warm smile, after her laughing had calmed down.

Diana had an impressed smile on her face as she watched the rest of Selina's cans tumble to the ground. "You weren't exaggerating," she admitted with a quiet laugh. "You really are an excellent shot." Diana gave a small theatrical sigh as she glanced down at her own lone surviving can. "I suppose I picked a very determined can to leave standing."
Diana followed Selina over to the dunk tank and cradled her owl plush once more and was unable to hide the amused smile which tugged at the corners of her lips. She carefully set her snowy owl beside the tiger and made sure that both plushed animals would stay dry before she climbed the short wooden steps.
Diana couldn't help laughing at Selina's dramatic bow. "Why, thank you," she replied, dipping into an equally exaggerated curtsy before taking her seat. "I shall accept my fate with as much dignity as possible." Her hands were folded in her lap however a grin seemed to betray that she was already expecting what was to come.
The ball struck the target and a loud splash seemed to echo through the air as the seat disappeared beneath her. It was freezing and for a split second the water seemed to steal her breath. Diana resurfaced and was drenched from head to toe. Wet strands of her brown hair clung to her cheeks and water tank and the jacket she had on top. Now her jacket which was light before felt heavy due to all the water and droplets were streaming from her sleeves. Before breaking into helpless laughter she blinked a few times. "Oh," she gasped between laughs, brushing damp hair away from her face, "that's definitely colder than I imagined."
Shoes squelched softly with each step as she climbed out of the tank. She didn't seem upset in the slightest despite being completely drenched. The whole thing had rather became funny if anything. Diana's expression softened when Selina offered her her jacket. "Thank you," she said sincerely, accepting it around her shoulders. "That's very kind of you."
She looked down at herself before looking back at Selina with an amused smile. "I suppose this is what I get for agreeing to competitions." A quiet laugh escaped her before she added, "At least I can say I lost to someone who earned the win." Before looking back toward Selina Diana retrieved her snowy owl plush and checked with relief that it had remained perfectly dry. "I had fun." She smiled warmly. "Even if I am going to be dripping all the way home." The thought made her laugh again. "I think my parents are going to know exactly what happened the moment they see me."
