Studying and chocolate.
School had started, and it meant a new school year and learning new spells and potions. So she had decided to try and finish her remaining homework and the assignments given for the day.
She walked out of the common room wearing her Hufflepuff robe. Her white hair was pulled up in a bun. Her bag was slung over one shoulder. Inside, just in case, were her books and some sweets.
The familiar smell of the library made her realize how much she had missed it. She missed the smell of the books, the familiar voice, everything. She sat at one of the tables that had the light perfectly centered. Too much light bothered Lenora, dim light made it difficult for her to see, and her pupils dilated because she was a Dhampir.
As she took her textbooks, ink bottle, parchment and quill pen out of her bag, ink dripped onto the tip of her right sleeve. She squinted and found the necessary books on the shelves.
She had started working on her astronomy assignment. She had already finished half of it. Her hair had fallen in front of her face while she was working. She was sure her eyes were trembling even more.

✽It was a new year and Avery could care less. The ghost of her past self lingered the hallways. The laughter, the friends, the pure joy of being at a school she loved. That was all gone now. Leaving a shell of the girl that once tried her hardest to be there for everyone. Now all she could do was use all her energy trying not to cry again. She had lost everything.
Avery burst into the library with her head down. Gripping her book bag tightly in her hand. The familiar scent of dust and old parchment filled the air and Avery let it envelope her like a warm embrace. Tilting her head in the air she closed her eyes. Breathing in the smell. It was her grounding point. Otherwise she would have flown out of the room in a panic.
The lioness was broken. Her spirit had been destroyed the moment the last breath of her grandfather filled the air. Now his ghost lingered near, but not close enough. He was gone. Had been since July, but she still could not accept it. It was too hard to bear.
Avery collapsed into a chair. Letting her book bag slide off her shoulder. Putting her head in her hands, she did not see the other girl sitting opposite of her until it was too late. The moment she looked up, she straightened. The lioness' eyes widened in surprise at who she saw. A younger Hufflepuff. Probably a second year considering the Astronomy homework assignment the girl was working on.
"I'm so sorry. Did I intrude upon you? Just say the word and I'll go find another table." Avery smiled weakly. ✽

Studying and chocolate.
Lenora only realized someone was sitting opposite her when the girl started talking. She's wearing a Gryffindor robe. She guessed the girl was in third grade because she looked older than her.Lenora noticed that she had been silent for a while. She thought the girl was still waiting.
"Uh, you can stay. It's no problem." She smiled and continued with her homework. 'Was that too short an answer?' she couldn't help but wonder. She glanced at the girl out of the corner of her eye.
She seemed to have a problem. 'Maybe she doesn't want to talk,' she thought, when an idea struck her. She pulled a chocolate bar from her bag and pushed it towards her on the table. "Chocolate always makes me happy," she smiled and she whispered, hoping the librarian hadn't heard.
She looked up when she finished her astronomy homework. The idea of trying to talk to the girl came back to her mind. She opened her mouth, but then remembered she didn't know the girl's name. Her pale skin flushed at the thought. "Uhm sorry I didn't kno you're name Haha. My name is Lenora. How about you?"
She continued talking while looking at the girl's books. "Which subject are you studying for?"

✽Avery smiled briefly, but the smile did not quite reach her eyes. It had been a long time since it had. Too long. But at this point Avery did not care to keep track. She was hurting. That left no room for bright smiles and a joyful attitude. There was no hiding what she felt anymore behind a mask. Now her emotions were laid bare for all to see. Most probably knew her grandfather had died anyway. If they even knew he was her grandfather. He had been a well known mazoologist back in his time. Probably thanks to his passion of taking care and learning about the world.
“Thanks.” Was all Avery said to the girl. She did not have a clue what else could be said. Should she go into a spiel telling all her grief and problems? No. Definitely not. The lioness knew better than to just dump herself on others. She could handle herself. She always had. Besides, the younger girl did not deserve to have to hold the pain alongside her. She could not put her through that. It was too much for anyone.
Then the girl pushed something towards Avery. Looking down, the tears nearly welled in her eyes again. Chocolate. It was chocolate. It had been so long since the lioness had last seen such a delicacy. She could still remember its sweet rich taste. The last time she truly remembered eating the treat was in her first year where she and her best friend had met. Their love of chocolate and books drawing them together into an unbreakable bond.
“Thank you so much. You’re so sweet.” Avery spoke softly. Her voice barely audible.
Taking a small piece, the lioness savored the rich taste and sweet tang of chocolate.
Then the girl spoke. The lioness found in that moment that the younger girl’s name was Lenora. A beautiful name. Suiting of the sweet and beautiful girl sitting across from her.
“Wow. Lenora is a beautiful name. I’m Avery and as far as the subject I’m studying, well, it’s divination. Quite a fascinating subject, but definitely not easy.” A faint laugh escaped Avery’s lips.
Laughter. That was something that was rare coming from her nowadays. Maybe the chocolate was helping. The girl was right. Chocolate always lightened a mood. Brought light into the darkness where it seemed that no light would shine through anymore. ✽
