CICTF River Dolphin vs. Arapaima

A small gasp escaped Liliya has her eyes spied a distant smudge of colours hidden within the tree line. It was just beyond the foliage, the tufts of green that stuck out from the treetops above her, covering her visions with flecks of nature. At least there were no monkeys hanging and dangling from those branches.

And thank goodness. She could not risk another distraction, especially not when the prize was this close. She could see it, the red obvious against the colours on the opposite side of the wheel, camouflaged by attempts at hiding. Yet to an artist's eye, trained to be perceptive and always searching for the details within the environment, she did it.

Yet now came her problem. She was also utterly, utterly along in zone two, without a single team mate in sight as she trudged towards the distant promise of victory, pushing pass the annoying tall grass that reached her waist. She was almost there. They would almost win. She just had to push through and-

She stopped, glancing around. Vigilance was of the utmost importance. Soon, all her opponents in this zone might start slinging spells at her. And those would be far worse than monkeys.

TERRIBLE PRESENCE [AFFECTS ALL] | PERFECTIONIST | BINDING MARK [BORAM]
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
The wind for this round brought along favourable fortunes for the durmstrang boy. The Raven haired child had made no secret of his displeasure around the wildlife that resided castelo; they were annoying, incessant and simply erratic in their behaviours. Monkeys had no business with wands, or a capture the flag game and yet their presence had ruined much of Arno's time. Much to his benefit, this next zone had far less monkeys than what he'd grown accustomed to and only offered high temperatures as a challenge.

Liliya chose to stay back while Arno ventured forward towards the next zone. It seemed the two of these had managed to make the most of the distractions provided and found themselves deep in enemy territory. It was both fortunate and unfortunate event. Fortunate as diving this deep into enemy territory meant all their bases were covered and when Liliya took her time to sweep the place, she located that darn flag much too soon.

Unfortunate because they were neck deep in hostile zone and without a doubt, Arno was sure to find himself the target of a few spells. Lad was no seer, but human nature; it was much too common for all.

Being nestled in the snake’s grasp was, after the initial panic had settled in, somewhat comforting. It was almost as though the anaconda was holding him tightly in embrace to provide a much needed respite from the game. At the very least, being layered under the winding coils meant no spells could reach him. Any hostile attacks would ricochet off of its scales before so much as touching a hair on his head — and for once, Luuk could almost breathe. There was no constant swivelling of the head that rendered him akin to an owl; there was no cautious, measured treading for fear of traps lying agape in wait; there was no holding of the wand before him defensively. Snakes were not inherently evil, as with everything else in the rainforest, including the vicious wand-snatching capuchin monkeys; they only desired to thrive within the natural order of the ecosystem and were occasionally driven by curiosity for the unknown. Entangled, he almost felt one with the ecosystem, one with the many species that inhabited the lands. Almost at home. Almost the most at ease he had felt in a long time. There was hesitation for a split second — of indulging in complacency, for not struggling harder to break free. The question of his teammates needing him floated in Luuk's mind —

But he could almost close his eyes. Surely his teammates would manage fine without him, just for a moment. Nobody would miss him — the boy was quite certain that nobody had noticed he was no longer with the group. The only thing that worried him in the slightest at this very point in time was the unbearable heat, one so stifling that it seemed almost unnatural, though it was nothing the Surinamese was not accustomed to.

Black spots.

The edges of her vision began to blur, the spots dancing in the forefront of her eyesight like bacteria in a petri dish, which did remind her of Biology class—no. Aurelia Valentine took that file with a snatch, slamming it in a compartment furbished of locks with the force of her agitated fear. It was difficult to push down the recurring homesickness which threatened to squeeze a fragile heart, and being that she was within an anaconda's powerful grip she merely had no time nor the energy to grapple with such memories today.

Is there no one going to come for me?

Surely it is not listed in their itinerary to let a child die a gruesome death?

The canopy above looked breathtakingly beautiful, she noticed, like paths branching to different directions but in green and blue.

“What should my last words be—AAAAAAAH!” Sudden heat instantaneously enveloped the land, the forceful arrival of it made it appear as though they Apparated to the stuffy atmosphere of the Sahara Desert. The heat only seared the skin, and wholly unforeseen for a rainforest. Resting the back of her head on the snake's bulk, curls cascading down akin to dew drops, the young Valentine only wondered about the finish line with tears brimming in her eyes. Said rainforest reacted visibly from the heatwave, the sway of the dewy leaves; ill at ease calls and growls from the fauna; the wildlife stirred alive in its entirety.

The anaconda's body, at last, uncoiled itself from her own, perhaps planning to shelter itself from said heatwave. The Hufflepuff witch collapsed against the protruding root, inhaling greedily for oxygen before wet coughs racked her being.

Aurelia M. Valentine survived yet another round.

CICTF River Dolphin vs. Arapaima
Though the boy originally asked them to come over to him after they got their wand back, Valeriy feels oddly uncomfortable around him. They want to listen and hopefully please him enough to have their failures forgotten, and maybe even get into his good graces, but that seems unlikely given his demeanour. Additionally, they aren’t sure whether it’s something about him that’s off-putting, or whether it’s just that his presence is tinged with the after effects of his disappointment, but, either way, Valeriy feels the need to distance themself from him. Like an animal attempting to escape the watchful gaze of a predator, they slink off and essentially vanish, becoming one with the environment, as they are wont to do.

They depart from the area the boy is in and make their way into the next zone before he does. However, they get a little distracted and tired and end up pausing for a second. They catch their breath and look at their surroundings, admiring the beauty of nature and considering all the things that are different about this place compared to home. But it being different comes with problems, too. The heat hits them all of a sudden and they feel like they’re suffocating, the warmth unbearably extreme. They don’t know how people can feel comfortable in this — they’re much too used to the cold, personally. Their hair shrinks drastically in hopes that it will make them less hot, sweat making their clothes stick to them more tightly. They glance around, and it looks like the nearby Durmstrang girl is suffering similarly.

The incessant roar of the waterfall continued to fill the air, enveloping the jungle in a deceptive calm. The water cascaded down with the same force it had for centuries, completely indifferent to the small game a handful of students were playing among its roots. Stelle took a deep breath, carefully moving aside a damp branch as her eyes scanned every corner of the area. A flicker of movement on the other side of the vegetation caught her attention. She barely managed to make out the silhouette of a girl from Team Arapaima before seeing her react in a way that was far too obvious for someone who was simply exploring.
She had found her. Stelle's heart skipped a beat. There wasn't time to think too much. But the jungle seemed to favor those who knew how to navigate it. The Russian girl dodged the enchantment with surprising agility, disappearing into the vegetation just an instant later. The spell was lost among the curtains of water and the enormous roots that surrounded the waterfall.
Stelle slowly lowered her wand. She felt no frustration. Just a slight disappointment in herself. She had reacted quickly... but not quickly enough.

"What reflexes..." she murmured to herself, observing the spot where the girl had disappeared. Her attention immediately returned to her surroundings. Remaining still meant giving the opposing team precious seconds, and in a game like this, seconds could mean defeat.

"We have to move," she said, raising her voice slightly so her teammates could hear her over the roar of the water. "If she found her, the others will come this way." She gripped the hilt of her wand more tightly.

xxx writing as Tati Stewart, NPC
Wandering through the rainforest brought breathtaking views. The towering trees stood like guardians, watching with an almost judgemental surveillance, their roots extending infinitely below the forest floor as though they connected the entirety of the vast lands. Sunlight filtered through the gaps of the tree canopies, dappled silhouettes becoming imprinted on the ground. Tati could not help but admire the beauty of the Amazon; it was almost as though she was simply exploring the nature around her rather than participating in an aggressive game. The illusion was further advanced by how she was meandering alone, all of her supposed teammates already deeply engrossed in action.

As she approached the cascading waterfall, the blurry figures of individuals began to make themselves clear; wands were wielded aggressively, and spells were evidently being exchanged. It seemed as though the opposing team had spotted the flag. She herself did not know how well it had been obscured; perhaps they had done a lackluster job, resulting in an easy find for the opponent. Or perhaps they were simply keen-eyed, having been able to spot the flag despite it blending seamlessly into the vivid fauna. Treading toward the fray somewhat carelessly, Tati decided that it would do well for her to make herself useful.

This event is part of the Castelobruxo International Capture the Flag event
26TH OF JUNE, 2026 IN THE JUNGLE ARENA
MODERATION — ROUND FOUR.
Things were getting heated, literally and figuratively speaking. While another heatwave drove in over Zone 2 and 4, an Iara terrorized the remaining zones. @Arno Dorian where too focused on attempting to set a trap to fall for the Iara's call, but he still ultimately failed with his task. Only @Mirada Johnson, @Stelle Mims and @Talvikki Tähti seemed to notice that anything was wrong among the rest of the action. It was the second time in a row that the latter got heatstroke, adding to her already weakened physical, and mental state. When he thought she couldn't be in a worse enough state after the previous round, the Jungle proved him wrong.

Mirada was seconds away from following the river seductress into the river if @Pamela Graham hadn't noticed her suspicious straying. Still, the girl would spend the remaining round wondering where she was and what she was doing. Despite her daze, Mirada searched Zone 3 for the flag, finding nothing. As soon as she'd finished her search, there was no Pamela to save her skin when @Aurelia Valentine appeared from the shadows to hit the unsuspecting girl with the blind-folding spell. Fumbling with the blind-fold, the girl would not be able to withstand anything until she'd removed it from here eyes. After saving Mirada from a gruesome fate with the Iara, Pamela still had enough wits about her to assemble a trap in Zone 3.

As for the others, they were in a constant battle. Now when the flag had been found by @Liliya Starkova, the River Dolphins in Zone 2 could not spare a second without trying to slow her down on the path to victory. Ready for the moment the Russian girl would make a run for the flag, @Adeline Spinks stood ready in formation to guard. While that might have been the obvious —and in Santiago's eyes, impulsive —course of action, especially without any of her team members to have her back, Adeline's efforts were ultimately wasted when the Arapaima chose to conceal her movements instead. Santiago made a nod of approval.

The decision proved worthwhile once spells started flying. @Robin Marie's spell fizzled before it could leave her wand, while @Stelle Mims relied on an old classic. The spell succeeded this time as well, but Liliya slipped between the trees and evaded it. Both @Ivan Baskakova and @Valeriy Viktorovna Reznikov tried their luck with a spell of their own, but @Luuk Tjin-A-Wing moved out of range before Ivan's Flipendo could stop him, and @Robin Marie was completely safe in a different zone. It would've been impossible for Valeriy to see her from where they were standing, leaving Santiago to wonder what had possessed them to even try.

Seeing @Claire Ducasse was content to just stand around, staring blankly at @Evangeline Fleetwood, who now had free rein to scour the area, Santiago could only watch as she finally spotted the flag hidden in the trench. Maybe then Claire would feel some sense of urgency and try to stop her. Evidently not. Sighing, the man was not as excited as he usually was during these games. It was time to turn the tide. Rather inconvenienced, Santiago picked up the megaphone that had so far sat uselessly at his side. He spoke calmly, matter-of-factly.

"Evangeline has found the Arapaima flag in zone 4. I repeat: the Arapaima flag has been found in Zone 4. Don't waste time. My time." Then he put it down again exactly where he'd found it.

HOW TO PLAY

The game ends when either team successfully retrieved the other teams flag to their base. Team River Dolphin will be starting the game in Zone 1 and Team Arapaima will be in Zone 4 at the opposite end of the arena. There will be at most 10 rounds, each requiring a post of 200+ words. Please make sure you include your character's stats in your post.

During the first round only, each team must state which zone their flag is hidden in to the thread moderator. You may chose to hide the flag in any of the 4 zones. The flag remains in that zone unless successfully discovered or moved through gameplay mechanics. Do not reveal in game where the flag is located.

Each round, everyone in the team must make at least one action from the Capture the Flag actions list, unless they are unable to act due to a status effect or restriction. These actions are zone dependent. The team scores points by making successful flag actions or interceptive actions towards a flag carrier. Please note that players may only move between adjacent zones and cannot skip zones while travelling.

At the conclusion of each round, the zone state map will be updated to reflect all player locations. Players may only target characters who are in the same zone as them at the end of the previous round. If a target moves out of the zone during the following movement phase, the action automatically fails, with the exception of Flag Intercept and non-magical support actions that include a chase mechanic. When performing these actions, the player automatically follows the target into the destination zone as part of the interaction.

If the action fails while chasing, the pursuing player is left behind in the original zone while the target successfully gains distance.

Rules regarding roll resolution, action priority, and other game mechanics can be found HERE.

At least one member of the team must owl the entire teams' action list to @Santiago Peralta before the posting deadline.

CICTF River Dolphin vs. Arapaima
It only should have been expected that Liliya would have chosen to conceal her movement this coming round. She was in a far too dangerous position. Others seemed to have been aware that she had spotted their flag, perhaps acknowledging indirectly that their attempt at hiding it was not a particularly glorious or successful one either.

Despite opponent team mates trying to stop her, one attempted to stand ground in her path (an ultimately failed attempt), her concealed movements made it difficult for the lone soldier on the River Dolphin team to pin down where she should attack.

It was a valiant effort, that much she could and should give to her opponent, and it almost made her unaware to the spells that would be slung her way. But she was not so easily distracted. Taking the many trees to her advantage, she dipped and dodged between the bushes. Even without much need for evasion, the natural cover of the foliage assisted her as the spells went in wildly wrong directions.

So far, everything was going well. And her team was winning. Not only was her team winning, she, Liliya herself, would be the one to claim victory for her motley assortment of friends and accomplices.

Evangeline was walking around, finally arriving in the final zone, watching her every step, just to make sure no one was following her, or even planning an attack. She walked through the zone wondering who else would pass, what else she would encounter, and most importantly, thinking of her next meal. She was starving and honestly; she was really missing all the food at Hogwarts, and her plants. And she was wondering, how long would this still go on, i mean someone must be finding the flag any time now right.

She continued her search, because something in her just told her, this was the place to be, they must have hidden their flag here i mean, where else? Zone 3 no one had found it, and it was impossible for them to hide it in our zone because, we would have seen that by now. As Evangeline continued her search, she suddenly noticed her opponent standing right in front of her. She froze, and for some reason so did the opponent. It looked like, she couldnt see Evangeline at all. Had she gone invisible? She had no idea. She slowly, as silently as possible moved on, past her, to continue her search. And only a few moments after, she noticed the flag shining from between the bushes, and Evangeline smirked.
