Maddra had never been a girly-girl to the immense displeasure of her mother. Her mother, Barbara Ava Turner, was a Stylist. The only Stylist in their home village of Ellingham, which made it rather conspicuous that the village’s only Stylist own daughter spurned girly things. But the truth of the matter wasn't that Maddra hated girly things, it was just that, well, those activities weren’t as exciting as helping her father, or exploring the countryside. It didn’t help that the only girls her age in the village were all overly enthusiastic about all things make up and nail polish.

All the village girls seemed to want to do was stay closed up in a bedroom painting their nails, over and over. It was so tedious. And they didn’t do it right. The one time Maddra actually hung out with them, it was obvious they didn’t care about doing a good job. They just slapped it on, just to take it off again. Her father had taught Maddra from as far back as she could remember, ‘if you are going to do something.. Do it correctly. Take your time. Concentrate. If it means double checking your work, so be it. Better to get it right the first time, than to have to clean up and start over. It had some trial and error on her part, before finally, she understood what her father had meant.

It was that day when she tried so hard to conform to being like the other girls, Maddra realized it wasn’t ever going to happen. While she had taken her time to carefully paint each nail without getting any polish on her cuticles, the other girls hastily splashed on polish and had wiped it off twice over before Maddra had finished one hand. When she was finally done, she thought hers looked the best compared to the other girls, but they hadn’t cared about the quality of the work. They thought her nails were bland, because Maddra had picked a pale pink color in comparison to bright garish colors that were asymmetrical.

Now here Maddra was, at Hogwarts, freshly arrived and completely new to this world of wizardry. The Makeover and Manicures party that the Head of Slytherin had arranged with Professor Equinox was the only thing that was familiar to her. In all the time she had spent thus far at Hogwarts, Maddra had kept to herself. She went out of her way to escape notice. She tried to blend into the background and observe everything from afar. When she had received the letter about her acceptance to Hogwarts school, she had originally thought this was another one of her mother’s attempts to make her fit in. But when she found out it had been her father’s school, her attitude completely changed. To learn her father was a wizard, had seemed like a lark at first. But when she arrived at the train station to take her to Hogwarts, all the stories which she had suspected were to make her feel more at ease were put to the sword of truth and found to be righteous. Magic and wizardry was real and she was going to learn how to use it.

Everything about Hogwarts was a new and foreign experience. And while it had been exciting at first, it had quickly become overwhelming. Secretly she longed for something ‘normal’ to do, even though she didn’t consciously know this. So when Professor Jensen posted the Makeover and Manicures poster, she knew she had to attend. Finally there was something she could do that she didn’t have to worry about it exploding, or causing someone else harm. This was tame and easy.

In her typical skulking and surreptitious fashion, Maddra made way to the Makeover and Manicures party destination and slipped in. She hadn’t made any friends so she assumed her quick and furtive entrance went mostly unnoticed. She quickly slipped off to the perimeter of the area so she could cast a critical and judging gaze over the set up. There were small tables set up about the area. Each table seemed to contain the same type of set up. She was too far away to see if the items contained on all the tables were exactly the same, but by the size of the boxes and layout, it seemed there had been a general overall attempt to make sure all the tables were the same.

Still lurking in the sidelines as it were, Maddra watched as several people made their way to the tables and began to rummage in the boxes. Everyone who came in seemed rather at ease with each and they soon began to group themselves together easily in small clusters. She was actually quite surprised to see some boys come in. Boys that were actually trying to make an attempt at participating, even if grudgingly. Things were certainly different in the wizard world than home.

Squaring her shoulders, Maddra nodded to herself, silently affirming, that if a boy could do this, so could she! She finally left the safety of the perimeter and moved toward an empty table. After she sat down, she had a thorough perusal of the items in each box. She pushed the box containing the make up away. Subconsciously she made a face and rolled her eyes. Makeup, it was too much like work using it. She focused her attention on the nail polish. She relaxed. She could do this.

Methodically she took out each bottle of nail polish and set them in a line in front of her. From lightest to darkest. She held her hand out in front of the like of little polish bottles, eyeing the color against her skin tone. Immediately her eyes were drawn to nude color. She picked it up and set it aside. She then found the base coat and set that one beside the nude color. Lastly she rummaged for top coat, but she didn’t see one. Well it would be nice to have, but she could press on with it for now. She placed all the unwanted polish bottles back in the box and pushed it aside.

Picking up the base coat bottle, and she read the tiny print to make sure she was correct in assuming it was step one. It was. Opening the bottle, she began to apply the base coat to the nails of her left hand in careful even swipes. She was able to get most of her nails with only one pass. Except her thumb. That one required two swipes. She capped the bottle and absently waved her left hand hoping it would help it dry faster before she started on her right hand.

Elspeth was happy that Katrina seemed to be in on the idea to just pretend like their bathroom confrontation had never happened and to give each other a fresh chance. Of course, it was hard to give someone a fresh chance when all you know about them is the roughest stuff. Small talk doesn't come as easily when what you really want to do is ask more about how the other person is feeling vis a vis their dead relatives. So, Elspeth stayed quiet, deciding to look through the materials in a far too thorough kind of way to mask the fact that she had no idea what she was doing here.

Looking around, all of the students either had elaborate ideas for how to glamorize themselves, or, in the case of a handful who seemed to be converging around Professor Equinox, to glamorize their professors. Seeing her head of house in such casual wear made Elspeth feel weird - like seeing a teacher at the grocery store. Now that she thought about it, she'd never considered how the professors at the school must feel about living on campus all year. Sure, they had Hogsmeade, but otherwise they were kind of trapped in this castle with all of the rabid magic children. Where did they even live? Was there a secret wing of the school with professor housing?

Part of her was pulled to join her peers and give him some sparkly nails. But another part of her wasn't sure she quite new Professor Equinox well enough, yet, to buddy around like that. Instead, she looked back at the box of makeup materials and the mirror before deciding that she wasn't especially interested in giving herself a proper makeover anyways. Maybe... maybe she'd just draw a little something on her face instead.

With the sky so blue and the light breeze rustling some of the nearby trees and flower bushes, Elspeth's eyes wandered around, trying to look for some kind of inspiration. She could definitely draw a tree, but she wasn't so sure it would fit very well anywhere on her face. Leaves seemed a little complicated, she never knew how to get the veining pattern right on them so they would look realistic. There were some flowers nearby (she didn't know the variety, but they were purple and a bit bulbous) that looked lovely. Maybe she could try and draw one of them?

Reaching into the box, Elspeth managed to pull out a black liquid eyeliner pen that looked like it could make some nice, thick lines. As she flicked through the rest of the contents, a small, chubby bumblebee landed on a small splotch of spilled (but now dried) nail polish in a bright yellow color. Maybe it had mistaken the polish for a flower. It sat there for a moment before flying off toward something else. She smiled. Fuzzy little chubby bumbles were so cute, and she appreciated that they couldn't sting her so she could appreciate how cute they were without being afraid. Her hand brushed against a small bottle of bright yellow powder (eye shadow? highlighter? she had no idea) in the box and it was clear that the universe was trying to send her a sign. Make a chubby bumble of your own, Elspeth.

Looking in the mirror, she carefully applied the various products to her face, trying to keep the drawing super simple so she wouldn't mess it up. Which seemed to work in her favor as the bright cartoony bee took shape. Her grin reached from ear to ear as she finished and saw the adorable lil bug resting on her cheek.

She waved to Katrina as she stood up and walked out to the grounds to go enjoy her bumblebee in its native habitat.

Alexis watched Atlas slowly cheer up again and listened as she explained her plan. Girly? She almost wanted to say Personally, I prefer the term ‘Ladylike’. but she chose to ignored it. She should loosen up. Instead, she replied, “Lucky me, I’ve got some experiences. And... I’m willing to share.” She continued, “You said sunset? Fascinating!”

Alexis’s flickered to Ethen as he held a small item up, he squeezed it a little. She squinted.“Is that... Is that a beauty blender?” She asked, confused. “Why would you need those?”

“My mother actually taught me all this, she thinks I should know how to do it myself when we go to a formal event. Apparently, we have a lot of those.” She replied when Atlas talked about her mother, maybe she should share something as well. She chuckled when Atlas jokingly called Ethen ‘a character’, even more so when he replied with confident attitude. “I’m sure you are a master.” She spoke in total seriousness. “And Atlas? I’m more than happy to help.” she assured.

The raven haired girl stopped a bit, blinking at Ethen. She didn’t expect the boy to be the one answering that question. “That’s... a pleasant surprise. You have a completely opposite reaction to my brothers.” She shook her confusion away then added, “Maybe you could help me do mine, having one hand isn’t exactly ideal to me. If you don’t mind, of course.”

"Well..." the Head of Hufflepuff stammered as he heard Quinn's plans. "I guess we'll find out how that look will suit me." A grin would appear on the professor's face, yet he couldn't help but letting a slight worry slip into his mind. He had no clue for Quinn's skills, nor Breana's for that matter. What he was going to look like at the end of all this was going to be quite the surprise for everybody, he figured. Not that he actually minded it a lot. It was just some make-up and a few braids. The worst that could happen is him cutting his hair and washing his face later tonight. In fact, that haircut was coming for some time anyway. Little 'nora would have scolded him weeks ago if she saw him like this.

But his daughter wasn't here. And he'd have to find another victim for him to cut his hair. He could try to modify it himself. But really, he had witnessed so many accidents in his time of friends cutting their own hair... he knew better than to trust himself. Or else spend the entire night figuring it out strand by strand. Which really wasn't anything that would fit the schedule of a Head of House.

His eyes shot sideways towards the other two professors sitting by another table. She was looking very pretty today, and she actually seemed happy to be outside with Al and the students. His eyebrow arched up in surprise as he witnessed her agreeing to a boy. Was she... actually going to allow these kids to- Oh, yes, she was. His lips curled up into an impressed smile. It seemed the Slytherin Head of House was full of surprises still. He actually was a bit proud of her. It was nice to see her open up to the children a little. It could only do good for both parties.

If you're reading this... You're awesome.

After receiving some odd looks and greetings from the professors, Amara continues applying her base layer of makeup. She finishes her foundation and begins on the concealer to hide her under-eye bags. Amara does some light contour until it is time to wash out the hair dye. She lays her head back into the small bowl of water and combs the gunk out as she makes sure to keep the water away from her makeup. Amara ties her hair back into a low bun after she sits back up.

Amara starts working on her eyes and applies red shadow all along her crease before cutting it. Once she cuts her crease, Amara covers it with gold glitter. She is about to start working on her second eye when a dark-haired boy comes over to her and makes a face, "What did you do to your hair?" he asks disgustedly.

Amara sets the makeup brush down and looks at the boy, "Excuse me? Who do you think you are?" All Amara wanted was to have a peaceful afternoon, but this boy just had to come over and judge her. Amara continues to side-eye the boy- one she thinks is another Slytherin- until he speaks again.

Alexis Greeted them, and while Alaric was conversing, he offered her a smile and a nod in agreement that it was indeed a nice day. “It is a beautiful day indeed” he responded to Cassandra as she made her entrance musing to the wind.

As Mars guided his arm and hand, Alaric relaxed to allow them to do as they needed. He allowed his long fingers to gently lay across theirs. Alaric watched Mars with an amused smile as they looked over his claws and with a quick ‘hold on’ Mars was off, which was a good thing because Alan made an exclamation Alaric was able to turn behind him to see that Alan had gotten some on his skin. “Not to worry, let’s just grab this bottle here and these cotton pads.” Alaric grabbed a bottle labeled as acetone and some cotton rounds. He opened the bottle and applied a little to the pad and handed it to Alan. “Use this to clean up the extra polish. No need to worry about it, it will come right off. Then just gently touch up the polish on your nail. I suggest setting holding your hands up in front of you and blow on them. While this is fast drying polish, it does still take a little bit of time.”

It was then, how he had missed it before he didn’t know; he noticed the very tall boy that one of his best friends was sitting with. Caradoc Browne, someone that he only saw ware stage makeup when their band had performed. So watching him mill about and helping some of the students warmed Alaric’s heart. His attention, however, was pulled back to as Mars appeared again. Alaric would lay his arm back on the chair and his hand back in Mars’ “No, not allergic at all, please proceed.” He would watch them interested in what idea they had for his claws.

May was happily enjoying her nails, but it was her usual design. She wasn't very impressed, and to be honest, she very much liked Ariana's much more. When Janet came, May smiled at her friend. <<Oh Janet, don't be silly! Anyone can do makeup and manicures!>> she pulled Janet into the chair she had just leaved, and still with a smile on her face, she picked up a hair spray. <<What do you prefer? Red, pink, blue...? Maybe yellow? The rainbow?'>> May couldn't stop smiling at her friend. She was over exited, and that was not a good sign. She could attack like a tigress if they would refuse. Now, it was time for makeup and manicures. <<What color do you want? What nail polish? Maybe like Ariana? Oh! I have a idea! One hand is my nail style, and the other one is Ariana's! You tell me, now!>> she was with her face red. Literally. She was suffocating, too much activity and artificial products.

She had always learned how to do manicures from her sister, and she couldn't imagine one day without manicure. When she finished Janet's work (if she accepted, if not, well, she would so the same thing) she sat in her place (if she was gone) and picked up some mask, and looked at what @Hjørdis Jensen did. She wasn't very good at makeup herself, but she did know the basics. She had learned most of it from her simple mother that used a little bit of makeup, or if she used some, it would be very simple, like mask, and then transparent lip gloss. Not much, but her mother was beautiful. May was worrying that she may grow ugly while she's sick.
<<So girls, are you enjoying this day? Or not?>>

A smile plucked at the corner of Ileen's mouth as the Slytherin girl reacted with excessive indignation. She really liked this kind of sarcastic humor. “Maybe a bit harsh,” she admitted and grinned brightly. “Isn’t politeness the most pushing kind of social forcing?” She laughed and hoped it was obvious that she was just joking. Of course, she was happy to be here. “Thank you for inviting me, Opeila.
She indicated a mocking bow and had to shake her head over herself immediately afterwards. Today she was really…. giggly.

She was glad Opeila seemed to get her kind of jokes as well. “Well” She grabbed a pencil from a desk - eyeliner or so? – and waved it around in front of the Slytherin girl. “Not forever maybe,” she conceded. “But how would you like it to run around in Hogwarts with some funny and weird drawings on your face? And yes, you should be worried.” With a checky grin she placed the pencil back on the table. “Huh, better to stay away from this, I guess. Or focusing on stuff we can wash off.
The hair, on the other hand, was something, Ileen was confident about to manage something nice. With a soft smile, she took a brush and looked at Opeila’s long brown hair. “Okay. Let’s do this. Please tell my if it hurts you or anything, okay?” She giggled. “My horses always complained when I pulled to much.” Carefully, she stroked the girl's hair and tried to part it. “I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't try to bite me, though.” She thought for a moment and then had to laugh again. “I don't think I can bribe you with a carrot either.
While she was speaking, she divided Opeila's hair into two thick strands, tied them together and then took the right side. She hadn't done that for a long time. So, she was even more surprised when she realized how well it worked. Even though the hair was long, it didn’t take that long to braid it. When she was done, she looked for two mirrors, placed one in front of Opeila and hold the other one to the back of her head so se could see the work. Ileen was proud. That looked pretty - in her opinion at least.

When Opeila asked Ileen about her grandparents, she shrugged her shoulders. “They would, I guess. But I don’t know them. Never met them, never will.” Probably that wasn’t the right topic for such a conversation. She liked Opeila, but they didn’t know each other that well. Ileen already started to regret that she had asked such an intime question. “Huh. Nevermind.” She waved it off and smiled at the other girl. “Nails sound good. Now, I trust you, don’t let me down!

"Uhhh yeah sunset...I see the idea in my head just can't quite figure out what to do with it." Atlas replied turning on her chair to face Alexis. From the jostling of makeup supplies and noises from Ethen she was sure he was set on the most extreme makeup of the day.

"You are most definitely a master...of disguise!" Atlas exclaimed realizing that if Ethen kept practicing he could make some serious disguises for the two of them while they were out pranking. "Keep working hard Tebo, we need to be unrecognizable to the plebs. Just think you can give me bushy man eyebrows and make yourself a woman! Orrrr you can turn us into trees so we blend in with our environment!" She laughed rolling the tip of her tongue over the cut on her lower lip as she turned her head back to Alexis.

"Uh yeah I've never done manicures, I think maybe my mom and I went one time together to a place to have it done but I've never done it by myself so we can definitely head over to that area once we uhhh tame my wild orange eye." She continued thankful that Alexis was willing to help her learn a few tricks.

"You go to a lot of formal events with your family? I can't say I've been to many except when we went to India but otherwise we are mostly a backpacking roughing it kind of family."

"So uhhhh where do we start getting this to look less like clown makeup and more like uhhh yours?"

Atlas figured she should stop making fun of makeup but it was all weird and uncomfortable for her and joking always seemed to ease the tension at least that's how it had always been with Ethen. They were gods at changing the subject when things got weird and had it not been for Alexis's invitation to help, Atlas would have left by now but here she was trying something new and strange in the hopes of obtaining a new skill but the day was still young and the jury out if she could actually get through the makeup lessons and come out with a decent look.

Permission granted by Rhea to godmod her and explain her permanent hiatus. ):
𝓐madea jerked out of her reverie as she heard the sound of her name. Unfortunately, the jarring motion as she came to her senses knocked her hand against the nail polish bottle, spilling the polish over the table. Amadea lunged to pick it up and set it back on the table, blushing as she did so. She liked to think that she had grown out of her clumsiness but every so often it would make an appearance, reminding her that she still was quite the klutz.

"Rhea, hi!" Amadea exclaimed, smiling at her friend. Amadea hadn't seen Reha in ages and it felt nice to meet up with the girl again, especially under less dangerous circumstances than the circumstances in which they had met (fire). Before she could say anything else, Rhea had already disappeared back to the supplies to grab her makeup necessities for her look. Soon enough, her friend had returned as Amadea was beginning to detail the flower on top of her nail. Amadea gave Rhea a brief smile before focusing on the flower. The two girls worked in a comfortable silence for a few minutes before Rhea engaged Amadea in conversation, asking her how she had been.

It was honestly a loaded question for Amadea. She knew that Rhea had a lot of family problems going on, and Amadea didn't want her to waste any sympathy on Amadea's own problems so she debated on what to tell her. In all honesty, Amadea didn't like telling anyone what had happened, no matter how close they were to her. She hated the way people pitied her and she hated how painful it still was to talk about it. "Well," she began cautiously, unsure of where her words were going to take her. "It's honestly been a tough year," she said. "But it's starting to get better," she added, which was true. Even though it was a cliche, time heals all wounds. And though Amadea knew she was nowhere near to being healed, she was a million times better than she had been in the first day or first month. Each day was one step toward moving forward. "How are you doing?" she asked, hoping that her friend was doing okay. Amadea knew that there was a lot going on Rhea's life and she hoped that her friend was handling everything.

"I'm doing okay," Rhea said in the same hesitant tone Amadea had used. It wasn't like the two girls didn't trust each other; they did. It was just that these were unusually tough situations they were both in and it was painful to talk about it, even though they were close friends. Amadea tried not to look at Rhea with too much sympathy; she knew how much sympathy sucked.

"That's good," Amadea said. She wasn't the best at continuing conversations so she decided not to say anything more and went back to painting her nails. Rhea decided to carry on the conversation a few seconds later as she dipped her brush into one of the eyeshadow colors.

"Actually, um, I asked you to come today because I have something to tell you," Rhea said. "I was hoping Adam and Cecily could be here too, but..."she trailed off. Amadea looked around, unsure of where the conversation was going and thankful for something to do as she was not sure if she should say anything or just let Rhea keep going. She didn't see either of her blond Ravenclaw friends in the near vicinity so it looked like she would just have to relay the message to them later. "I'm not going to be coming back to Hogwarts," Rhea said, finally spilling th news.

Amadea's jaw dropped open without her meaning to. She quickly closed it, but her shock did not wear off. Rhea was leaving? She had so many questions but she kept quiet, hoping that Rhea would elaborate some more. Thankfully, she did. "You know...there's a lot going on right now," Rhea said vaguely, but Amadea understood. While she had never learned the full story of what had happened, she knew it was something to do with Rhea's father having an affair with Eris's mother and a scandal within the Pureblood community. While Amadea didn't understand completely the Pureblood society and what it was like, she definitely knew that it was a big deal and something that clearly affected Rhea a lot. "My mother and I ended up deciding it would be best to homeschool me for now," she said. "We can still hang out in the summer and on breaks," Rhea said with a slight smile. "I'll miss you terribly."

Amadea fought the urge to burst into tears. She had not been expecting this heartbreaking news on this day when she was supposed to be relaxing and pampering herself. Rhea was already in tears, her makeup look becoming more smudged by the second as the tears leaked out of her eyes. "Rhea...I-I don't even know what to say," Amadea admitted honestly. She truly didn't. She knew that Rhea going through a lot and she knew that when she had been going through a lot, she had taken a break from school as well. It made sense, but it didn't make it any easier. "I am going to miss you so much," she said, her voice cracking on the last two words. She put down the nail polish bottle so she could look deep into Rhea's eyes. "Just because you aren't going to come back doesn't mean our friendship is over," Amadea assured, as much for herself as it was for Rhea. "I will write to you all the time." Even though her nails weren't tried, Amadea leaned over and wrapped her arms around her friend, squeezing tightly.

"Do you want to get out of here?" she asked quietly. The two girls could go somewhere more private to talk and say their goodbyes. Amadea felt Rhea nod and she pulled back, wiping her eyes. It took only a minute to put all of their makeup supplies away before Amadea stood, offering her hand to Rhea and the two girls exited the courtyard together one last time.
Amadea and Rhea exit the thread.
