Welp, this isn't working Closed

It was about a week after the First Years had arrived at Hogwarts and had been sorted. Allie was sitting in her Charms class, watching other classmates try to perform one of harder charms.

Allie sighed and waved her wand as if she had done it millions of times and said the words that made the spell work. Immediately, the quill that had been sitting on her desk stood upright and began to the dance. Allie waved her wand again and the quill stopped moving and lay back down on the desk in front of her.

That's when Allie noticed one girl sitting near the corner of the classroom, struggling. Allie pushed back her chair and stood up. Walking over to the girl, she tapped her on the shoulder. Then said to her, "I'm Allie. Can. . . can I help you? I think I know why it isn't working. But if you don't want help then. . ." She waited patiently for a response, noticing the small anime figurine that perched on the corner of the girl's desk, smiling and unmoving.

She had seen one of those somewhere. . . but she couldn't remember where. No matter, she thought, and stayed where she was, waiting.

Akina's sapphire eyes glowed as she gave a pleading look over at Allie. She really needed help and she wasnt ashamed of asking for it. Maybe this kind soul was a second year tutor who passed by saw her struggling. Maybe it was a helpful classmate who saw bang her head against her desk repeatedly.

Honestly, Akina wasn't sure which one she prefered out of the two. But she was happy that she was able to get some help to figure out what was wrong.

The hufflepuff started nodding, looking a bit like a whipped puppy. Trying to get up to bow as a courtesy and a thank you, Akina slams into her desk and topples back into her desk.

"Thank you Allie, I would really appreciate it" she winces instead, slightly in pain. "The name is Akina Kuroshima"

Holding out her hand she tries to get a handshake, unsure still of wizard custom. Maybe they thought it was rude? Selene surely thought her bowing was odd, but then did most of her hometown. Mentally shaking her head she looks back at the girl.

She noticed the blue and gold touches to her outfit, Ravenclaw then. From what she remembered of the houses and their status, Ravenclaws were cunning and smart. Maybe that's why this girl thought she could help a 'lowly muggleborn' like herself. It didn't matter anymore. She just wanted to do this right.

Allie smiled despite herself. Akina seemed almost desperate for help, and Allie was glad to give it. She shook Akina's outstretched hand and then raised her wand.

"Watch me carefully." With a flick of her wand she said the spell loud and clear with emphasis on the right letters. The figurine on Akina's desk whirled around. Allie carefully made sure it wouldn't drop and then, after a few more seconds, stopped and looked back at Akina. "You need to make sure that you pronounce the word clearly so that the magic actually works. And a sharp flick of the wand to start." She blushed when she saw Akina's face. "Um, sorry if I sound too much like a teacher, people tell me that a lot. Which isn't really such a bad thing, because I DO want to be a Professor at Hogwarts someday. . ." she rambled on, not really knowing what she was saying. "Um. . . want to try?" Allie asked Akina, wondering if what she had shown her helped at all. She had overheard Akina when she was trying to perform the spell, and her wand movement seemed alright, but she had been slurring the word.

Akina looked at the dancing figurine and smiled, it looked like a dance she saw in a different anime that the one the figurine was involved in. She looked on in wonder as she listened to the way that Allie talked. "I slurred my words?" the Hufflepuff thinks, and looks back up at the Ravenclaw.

"And I don't think it's a bad thing, especially right now. It's kind of what I need." Akina smiles, one that is wide and bright. "And if you ever what to start and learn how to be a teacher, I'll probably need more help in the future. I know I'm not dumb but this is all so new that I think I'm a bit over whelm and have no idea how to fix my mistakes.

The Hufflepuff then re-looks at the figurine, now having stopped dancing, then back at Allie with a small head tilt before speaking again. "Tantaragella?" the Rs are still rolled but the G doesn't get swallowed. "Is that right?"

The Asian girl looked determined, she really wanted to get this right. If she knows her problems this girl would be able to get her act together. Maybe that's what she needs, not really a tutor but a coach.

Allie grinned after she heard Akina saying that Allie could help her in the future. When Akina tried again and said it right, Allie was delighted. "You did it!" She said, excited. "You did it!"

The word had been pronounced perfectly. Now all Akina had to do was perfect the wand motion that went with it. Allie showed her again, giving her wand a sharp flick but didn't say the word that made it all happen, at least for first years.

"Here, keep practicing saying the word and the wand movement separately. It needs to be just right if you want to be able to complete this spell. If it isn't, you might end up setting something on fire or making the lights go out." She explained. "The way you pronounce it is key, as well as the wand movement." Showing Akina the wand movement one more time, she finally performed the spell herself again. This time, the quill started to move.

Allie wanted to twirl with it, that was the feeling she got every time she performed a bit of magic, whether it was on accident or not. Then, once she was sure that Akina would be doing everything alright, she sat down next to Akina and pulled out one of the newer books she had gotten from the Library the day before and started to read.

Akina's eyes widen and started to tear up. "I did it right!?" The girl's smile makes it known that the tears are that of joy as she starts to mutter the word over and over perfectly.

Looking at the hand movement that Allie did, Akina starts to mimic it. A simple short flick that had her hand feeling an odd cramp. Maybe she was doing it wrong? Thinking about it for a second she shakes her hand out. Relaxing again she tries the movement again, and the cramp doesn't happen. "I guess I need to not be that tense, that might be a problem. I've been wanting to be so perfect that I forgot how to be me."

The girl laughs as she looks at her wand before flicking it one more time. "Just like all those movies I watched as a child. How did that song go?



The girl sings as she flicks her wand to the song, trying to get it right. When the song is over she stops, eyes looking firmly at the anime figure as she examines its lifeless body. Hoping that she finally got it she flicks her wand once as a rehearsal before pointing it at the figurine.

"Like this Allie?" Akina calls to her friend as she flicks her wand and speaks clearly, "Tantaragella!" The figurine starts to dance and Akina semi tackles the Ravenclaw into a large hug.

Allie giggled and stumbled back as Akina hugged her tightly. Hugging Akina back, she smiled. "Yes! You've got it! You did it!"

She felt proud of her friend and of herself. She had never really tried to teach anyone before, she just knew she wanted to be a Professor at Hogwarts someday, as she had told Akina. Maybe even Headmaster, if she could work hard enough.

Allie set down her book and then looked at Akina with a glimmer in her eye. "Anything else you need help learning?" She asked, smiling. She knew everything in the school books by heart, as she had read them at least twice each and so she didn't worry that she might be asked to teach Akina something even she didn't know. But even if she didn't know, then she could totally figure it out. She was smart.

Then Allie remembered something she had heard. "What was that song you were singing?" She added. "It was really pretty. It reminded me of something I heard somewhere once." She laughed at her own sentence. It had been SUCH an exact sentence, she thought sarcastically. Then she looked back at Akina, waiting.

Akina shakes her head laughing. "Not right now, the theory about things is different then practical things." She points to her notebook filled with numerous notes on the charms themselves, all neat and organized.

She then looks confused, wondering what Allie was talking about. "You mean the song? It's from a movie i watched when I was a kid. Shrek 2? Yeah, the name of the movie was Shrek 2." A smile grows across her face, like that of the Cheshire cat. [color=#00080]"Do you guys have movies? I haven't seen anything that is electronic since coming here and it would be quite weird."[/color]

Akina just tilted her head while waiting for Allie to reply, thinking deeply into what the answer could be. Because yes, the Hufflepuff hasn't seen any TV or screens since coming to this place. It was almost archaic in nature, like she was brought back in a bit of time. Maybe that was just how they worked, more old fashion and in traditional standpoint. She could get behind that, though she would miss not being able to see her movies and enjoy a fun time laughing from a show.

But who knows, maybe there is a way to watch something like Shrek 2 here?

Allie was a bit disappointed that Akina didn't need help with anything but she got over it quickly as Akina explained where the song had come from. That's when Allie remembered why she had heard her mother singing it, even though she wasn't a muggle.

When Akina asked Allie whether they had electronics, she just shrugged.

"You mean those odd screens they keep in their houses?" she laughed. "Why in the world would we need those things? Muggles use them because they don't have magic like we do. At least, that's what I think. Although my mother was really interested in muggle television for a while. . . that's probably why she was singing a song from Shrek." Allie explained. "We do have some electronic things, but I mean, we also have magic, which, you know. . ." She slowly trailed off. Then she looked at the time and smiled at Akina.

"I think I'd better go," She said, a touch sadly. It had been fun helping and talking to Akina, and she didn't really want to leave. "It was really nice meeting you, Akina, and maybe we can talk again soon?" Allie asked hopefully as she picked up her books.
