Rosaline’s expression was anxious, spinning her pen unconsciously, contrary to her usual relaxed, optimistic smile she put on her face every day. The parchments laid in front of her on the desk; there were only a few ink dots on it. Rosaline stared at them for a moment. It was several weeks after the Christmas break and she had gradually found her study pace back, yet when she needed to face the Herbology, her brain was all mixed up and she was confused again.
Rosaline peeped her head from her high-stacked of books, observing the library to avoid the essay she needed to write about Fire Seed. The requirement was a daunting three feet long! If it was any other subjects, she could simply nail it and write out even more than three feet, but it was Herbology, the nemesis of her life, she had no idea why she was so not good at this. Rosaline grew up in a house with large garden and she went to her grandparents’ house for summer, where they had a giant greenhouse with all the herbs and plants. Logically speaking, she should’ve aced this subject. Only Merlin knew why. Though this was frustrating to the young girl, she wouldn’t be beaten down so easily; that was why she had brought so many books from the shelves to here. Her arms were a bit sore by moving with heavy, large books. Her mind came back from her loose threads of thoughts to reality.
The library was full of people, not because of tests but because of the dim damp weather today, the young brunette speculated. Her eyes darted around to see if there was anyone that she was familiar with. Apparently, none of her friends were here. Though Rosaline liked to spend time alone, the scenario of solving the homework by her own wasn’t the best for her.
Some books laid open besides the parchment, while others remained on the stacks. Rosaline sat back, leaning her back on the chair, shifting her weight and crossing her arms in front of her. Scanning every spine of books that she had carried here, she decided to pick One Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi to help her, yet it was under three other books. As she leaned forward, the precariously stacks of books were already teetering, as soon as her fingers put on the specific book she wanted to get reference from and gently pulled it out, the three books on top of it soon fell on the ground. Rosaline tried to reach her wand but there was no time for her to cast Levitation Charm. A heave thud, luckily the rug on the floor was soft, still, the sound drew some attention from other students. “Sorry, sorry…” Rosaline muttered her apology in a low voice as she leaned down to pick the books up. Worrying if she would be kicked out from the library because of this chaos, she was so focused in her mind for now.

Who would have thought he would become someone else' disaster today, in his experience, that was usually how things started going wrong. It was not his intention when he went to the library. He was left with no choice because of the bad weather, which was already a pain because his sketching time was ruined. As much as he wanted to stay outside, it would be of no use to his sketch pad if it's completely soaked. With no other plans in mind, he decided to put his attention to their homework about Fire Seeds, and that was why he even bothered going to the library in the first place. A quick read, write, in and out, as simple as that. He was not a perfect O student though he would argue with you that he was not that bad either. Being new to Hogwarts and to the Wizarding world, he was mostly driven by the will to prove himself, that he belongs in this world and that he could also do what other students do. It was the main reason why he could get by with his lessons, no matter how difficult, challenging, or impossible they were, and he was proud of his accomplishments so far.
Outside, the rain kept tapping the windows in uneven patterns. The willow branches near the glass moved rapidly. The library was warmer by contrast, you can smell parchment, hear slow chatters and the occasional rustle of pages turning. Those were the things he was used to encountering while he was in there, without fail. He was walking between shelves when he heard the thud, which made him stop pulling one book about Herbology. His head craned in that direction where he heard the sound.
In all his experience in the library, that sound had never been anything good. Slowly poking his head out of the row he was in, he saw a girl crouching beside a fallen stacks of books. One thing he noticed, that's a lot of books and definitely a falling hazard. Here he thought he was just watching, but he had not realized his feet were already moving, bringing him to that direction before he could think too much about it. Thinking usually made things more complicated, and books on the floor were not supposed to be complicated problems in his personal opinion. Sometimes he didn't know if that was a good trait of him to always offer some help, or it's a bad habit at this point because it usually put him in an embarrassing situation.
Reaching where the girl was, he also crouched down. "Here, let me help..." He picked up one of the books and set it back onto the pile she was gathering. “Careful...” It's not meant to sound serious but it came out as such. His gaze went to the parchment she's working on and accidentally saw what it was about. That earned an exhale of breath from him. No wonder, the girl had that expression, it's the same one when someone was trying to wrestle plants into their mind when they all wanted to do was avoid doing it. The corner of his mouth lifted slightly, showing his amusement.
Now that he was looking at her closely, he realized he knew the girl, they're on the same year. "Fire Seed homework I suppose?" He put the book he got on top of the other books. “Everything okay here?” That seemed like the correct way to go about this without looking like he's intruding while she's doing their homework.

date place tags wc speech outfits 03/02/26 Library @Zephyr Deakin 594/200 #36563c With uneasiness, Rosaline picked up the books one by one. Usually the texture of the old, hard covers could calm her, yet not now, not this situation. It did not work, at all. The wanted time. She could’ve used them on researching or actually writing her essay. Sighing, she shook her head and didn't want to indulge the negative feelings in her chest anymore. Finally finishing organizing a stack of books that were scattered on the carpet, she didn’t enjoy this specific experience.
Propping her hands on her knees, she stayed still in the crouching position, contemplating her life choice. Should she not tell her parents about the possible grade of herbology? Should she abandon the concept of excelling in any subject? A sound of footsteps disrupted her self-doubt. Rosaline was almost on the verge of panicking. The thought of being thrown out by the librarian was eating her stomach like little black ants. She clutched the hem of her skirt, head down, staring at the carpet. It was as if she were deep in thought studying the patterns of it. She wouldn’t blame the librarian if she had gotten thrown out, since she indeed made those noises. Yet a warm voice and steady hands came through her anxiety and into her sight. She looked up and found their owner was a gentle boy. He seemed vaguely familiar, perhaps the same year as her. She hadn’t interacted with him before, yet she definitely had seen him around on campus and in classes. “Here, let me help…” Upon hearing his words, she felt her miserable fate today was a little bit salvageable. “Thank you…” Her face flushed from the awkwardness. This wouldn’t be the first impression she would ever want anyone to remember, let alone a classmate. Her head went down again, focusing on the task of saving books, not saying too much.
With the boy’s help, they soon gathered all the books and placed them back on the desk. Rosaline rose up, straightening her clothes. After the short silence, she had gained her composure back. The rosy pink still lingered on her cheeks, but it was less noticeable. Hearing the inquiry about herbology from the boy, with the late realization, she had pieced everything together. The boy was in the same herbology class with her. “Yeah, I’m working on it. Although as you can see, I am also struggling,” Rosaline answered with a sheepish smile, reluctantly acknowledging the fact. Thumbing the edge of her parchment, she said, “I’m Rosaline, by the way, a first-year too. It’s a pleasure meeting you. Although not the perfect situation. If I recall correctly, you’re a Hufflepuff, right?” She tilted her head and looked at the boy in front of her with a curious light shining in her cerulean eyes. Then she answered his question, “Thanks for asking. I’m just a bit confused about the effect of Fire Seed. I really did listen to the lecture, but it keeps slipping out of my mind.” She sighed dramatically. Her brows furrowed. Glancing at the boy, Rosaline noticed what he had brought here. “Are you here for the same homework?” Then she chuckled softly. “Sorry for the silly question. If you don’t mind, this table should be big enough for both of us.” She cleared the table, setting the books aside to make some space for him. “Also, I might’ve borrowed all the books about Fire Seed. They are all here.” Finishing adjusting the books on the desk, she sat down elegantly, composed, like the little accident didn’t even happen before.
