Again. For the umptiefth time, Nico retreated to the Great Lake. It was chilly today. A gentle breeze flew through the Prefects strawberry red hair as she crossed her arms. There was an empty glaze on her blue eyes. A spark was missing. Lately Nico didn't feel like herself. For some reason she thought everyone was out to get her. Why would they though? Increasing her pace, she tried not to look at other students she met along the way. It must've been odd to see someone speedwalk straight to the comfort and isolation of the dark lake.

Luckily the lake was big. There were enough spots where one could hide and think. Just what Nico needed. She specifically chose this time of the day, skipping class, to sink away in the soothing silence of the water and creatures that lived near it. Carefully, she walked up to the edge of a rock that loomed over the murky abyss. Not that that bothered her. She had been here plenty of times. Her leather boots, dangled over the water surface. Just a few more centimeters and they'd meet. What if you could walk on water? You could go anywhere. No need to pay for transportation... You just needed your feet. Looking down, she could see her reflection staring back at her, distorted. Her signature ice blue eyes didn't glisten the way they used to. They were dull and dark. What happened, Nico? Those spiders.. that's what. Sometimes at night, she could still hear them scitter across the floor, climbing onto her bed. The nightmare ended everytime right before a spider could sink its fangs into her back or leg. The same spots she got bitten before. Hogwarts was a scary place... She should've known... She WAS aware but... Of course you'd think it would never happen to you until it does...

With a deep sigh, the redhead leaned back on her hands, watching the horizon and the sky. This was calm and peaceful. Just what the doctor ordered...

Dmitri tread through the Hogwarts grounds---footsteps sinking into the cushion-like texture of the freshly-trimmed grass. It was early afternoon, and he was just wandering back into the vicinity of the castle after being dismissed out of class ahead of time. Care of Magical Creatures had to end early--the professor only had enough time to hand over a new piece of homework (over most of the students' audible cries of protest) before immediately getting called for an urgent meeting.

They've been having a lot of those lately, he thought to himself as he walked across the entire lawn towards the lakeshore on a whim. The mind-boggling incidents that happened to the entirety of the school have left everyone on edge--even the usually indifferent and unbothered Dmitri. It was part of the reason he decided to visit his favorite spot at the Great Lake after a long time--the Slytherin boy had long since foregone going there in fear of risking his life (in light of the mysterious occurrences). He missed the small outcropping dearly.

However, his fears weren't unwarranted.

What if someone or something abducted him like they did a lot of his schoolmates? No one would ever hear his cries for help as he preferred a spot only a few people ever hung out in.

Today, though, was different. A lot of Dmitri's housemates--who shared the same class as him--were all scattered around the grounds, wandering aimlessly, and free to do so for the rest of the afternoon. Quite a number of them found the lakeshore appealing as well. Already, a chattering gaggle of third years was skipping stones near the water, large ripples reflecting the soft, afternoon sunlight. They'd definitely hear him if he screamed for help--at least, that's what the Slytherin hoped.

A few skips over half-submerged stones later, Dmitri arrived at his favorite rock--and immediately grew a frown on his face.

Someone was already there.

The Slytherin boy watched as a seemingly younger girl stared at her own leg before throwing her head back, rested on her arms, and stared at the sky.

Who did she think she was?

"Hem hem." Dmitri cleared his throat haughtily, trying to catch the other's attention. "It seems to me like you're on my spot." He hasn't been here for only a few months, and someone's already deemed themselves worthy of being on his rock? His expression would reflect the disdain anybody would hear in his voice.

Footsteps approaching. Great... Was no one going to leave her alone on this dreadful day that just wouldn't pass? A boy cleared his throat and didn't seem to leave any time soon. With a soft groan, she tried to ignore him long enough - hoping he'd give up and leave.

"It seems to me like you're on my spot."

His spot? What was this? Did she miss out on something? She had been visiting this place for the longest time and suddenly some boy decided it was in fact his spot. But what if it was his spot? Then she'd be the one who was being rude. A slight panic overcame the Second Year as she slowely looked over her shoulder, up at the stranger. She hadn't seen him before. Oh Merlin. What now? For a moment she forgot she had a certain authority to uphold... Uncomfortable, Nico got up, feeling guilty for no particular reason except she might've upset this student. 'I-I'm sorry? B-But as far as I can see...' She folded her arms and tried her best to sound intimidating, but failed rather horribly. Her nerves got the best of her as she wobbled her leg nervously and annoyed. Why did this happen to her again? 'I-I don't see your name anywhere on yourrock..' She wasn't planning on moving. Not any time soon. He might look kinda scary, she wasn't First Year Nico anymore. All she could do was stand her ground and hope the problem would walk away and let her be. What if he came to bully her...? But why would he? A question she asked herself plenty of times during her days at a muggle school in the center of London. Some kids just... knew how to pick them. But why did it just had to be her. 'In fact, I'm not going anywhere...' She spat at him. Her icecold eyes piercing into his. She had to proof that no... third year? ... could scare her.

If Dmitri were a whole other person, the stuttered apology would have sufficed and he and this random girl would have laughed the rudeness off--probably even become lifelong friends from this small debacle. It would probably happen for the Hufflepuffs, maybe a few of the more demure Gryffindors and snotty Ravenclaws, but for him, the sight of the sniveling girl would only fuel his growing irritation.

He didn't even particularly like the actual rock. It was obviously hard and ridden with bumps and ridges uncomfortable for almost anyone who sat there. He stayed there mostly because of the solitude it offered. No. To be frank, the possessiveness and the rudeness only stemmed from his innate competitive spirit and the need to be left alone to his devices, away from the hustle and bustle of a whole castle filled with a pack of loud, cantankerous children.

"That's right. There isn't anything that would indicate that this rock was mine, that's fair." Dmitri would give the rock a little once then turned to address the girl.

Only to freeze in his tracks.

For the girl's eyes were red.

Not in the I-am-an-edgy-teenager-and-sleep-is-for-the-weak way, but in an actual inhuman manner--it almost even seemed to glow. The boy's eyes would widen in surprise before he disguised it by clearing his throat.

"From the looks of you, it seems like I've been in this school longer than you have." He would raise his head a little bit and look at the girl under his nose. "By that logic, I have been a "discoverer" of this rock earlier than you and thus have earned the priority to sit on it." He didn't even know what he was talking about--the girl's eyes took him off-guard. However, his confrontational and competitive nature did not allow him to waver from the verbal attack.

"If you didn't relinquish your position from this rock, I'm sure we can form some sort of agreement." Dmitri would say, snaking a hand to where he kept his wand, knowing full well that the girl can see it and hoped she could follow the subtle threat.

To her surprise, her attempt at intimidating him actually worked pretty well. Did she stare at him too hard? Staring was rude, as her mom would say. But he was the one being rude. She just stood her ground instead of letting him walk all over her. That was the right thing to do, right? This boy was bad news, and that wasn't going to change soon by the looks of it.

'Oh. So just because you're older you assume that you get a first row seat to everything in this school?' What a ridiculous logic. This boy was a bully in the making. Did he even realise he was adressing a Prefect? The Prefect who used to be the sweetest of the team of four girls? Big mistake. Nico was getting tired of being picked on. The question was if she could handle this one or if she would eventually back down. What was this boys deal anyway?

However, alarmbells went off in her head watching Dimitri slide his hand over to his wand. Nico wasn't sure how to react but she knew she had to act fast. There was no way she would be easily scared off like that. There was only one way that she could settle this. Her ice blue hues punctured by a crimson red dot locked with his. Was he mocking her? Maybe. That would be his mistake either way.

As fast as lightning, her hand snatched her wand into her grip, aiming it at his idly hand. With the right handmovement she'd yell with a stern voice: 'Expelliarmus!'.
