@Brookline Quinn
Ava was so tired from class, all she wanted to do was go back to her dorm, cuddle up with her plushies and sleep. But the moving stairs had other plans. In her tired state of mind, the stairs made her feel more dizzy. Stepping on the wrong pair of stairs, she is now stuck in some corridor she doesn't even know. Ava was so frustrated that she was starting to get teary-eyed.

The corridor was empty, since the classes had ended a long time ago, but the Ravenclaw accidentally knocked her bag off, thus getting left behind. Usually she could just tag along with some fellow housemate to their tower, but now Ava was alone with a number of different moving stairs that kept changing their positions.

She wondered how long it would take for someone to come along this corridor so that they could help me find the way. These are the moments where Ava wished she could have a cat; if she did, she wouldn't be getting lost every once in a while. As if the god had blessed her, she heard a sound. Looking around to find the source of the sound, she stood up excitedly, her eyes still a bit teary, but she dare not let them fall.

all the little fragments and splinters of hope burst and disappeared
𝕴 should get back soon, right?

Brookline Isabella Quinn tapped her chin, thoughtfully, as her quill scratched across the yellowed parchment. Her ocean-like gaze fluttered to the clock in the silent, dark library, and realized she had been there since classes ended, skipping supper all together. At least she was getting her homework done. That’s all pre-second-year Mum would say. God knows what she’ll say now.

Actually Brookline knew. All her mother would do is dismiss her daughter, words never leaving her pursed lips. The Ravenclaw knew Amy wouldn’t give two hoots about grades, homework or her children. Why have children if all you’re going to do is ignore them?

Think about it, dear old Mum, think about it, Brookline wanted to scream in Amy’s pale face. In due time her mother would be just as horrible as her children’s father. When Chase left the house, the Quinns didn’t lose one parent, they lost both. Honestly, I could care less.

Inside, deep inside, Brookline knew she cared. She cared so much that she could see her outer shell cracking slightly sometimes. She really missed her former self, and even though the universe might not right itself like she wanted it to, Brookline had to sit tight and wait. She really wanted to cease her unrelenting care, sometimes.

With a final period, the Welsh girl packed her quill and parchment inside her satchel. She had finished her homework and a heavy feeling fell away from her chest. There was no denying that her work definitely caused major stress and she did all she could to stop herself from blowing up. She sighed. Brookline slipped the rest of her things in her bag, and made sure to tidy up her table, pushing in her chair as she left. Leaving the ominous repository behind her, the eagle stepped into the corridors.

It was quite uncomfortably quiet. Brookline didn’t like it one bit. Strange and silent. She’d tiptoe across the carpet, her boots barely skimming the floor, she was going quick. Hopefully the trip back to the tower wouldn’t be long. Being a Ravenclaw had its wealthy cons. Why would you place this lovely library five or six flights below the witty? Answer me that, great sir.

Through the halls, Brookline was as stealthy as a fox. She did not wish to be heard nor seen. At this point in the early night? It was near curfew and even though she had broken the rule multiple times before, she wasn’t quite feeling an encounter with a professor. Ever, really. Brookline tried to keep conversations with staff to a bare minimum. For one thing, her voice was probably raw and scratchy as hell. Serves you right for living without unnecessary speaking for six, eight days.

Stairs here, stairs there. One step, two steps, three steps, four, five, six steps. So many flights of stairs and Brookline’s legs were ready to give out. Every single day. Three or four times a day. Brookline has to wonder how unfortunate they were cursed to be schooled in a spacious castle. Castles are great and all, Brookline just didn’t know there had to be so many stairs. She then took another step, like any normal step as her boot caught onto something, and with a sudden gasp—

WHUMP!

Brookline slipped and fell right there. Shit! Was that the disappearing step? She asked herself, her breah knocked out of her lungs. Her knee connected with the plush carpet, and her palms contracted a rug burn or two by stopping her fall. She shook her head and did her best to stand up again. The young third year grabbed hold of the railing, and felt something weighing her down. A heavy bag’s strap was wrapped around her ankle. Well, someone is clumsy tonight. Brookline kneels down and takes the satchel off her foot, and she thought, Who’s bag is it? It might be a Ravenclaw’s. We’re nearer than we think. She takes the bag with her, hoping to find the owner as she walks up to her house’s tower. Hopefully. She probably could just leave the little bag in the Common Room and inform her Head of House. That would probably be the best decision, if she can’t find the student who lost their bag. Brookline crosses her fingers and she prayed that the owner of the receptacle was a stranger.

More enchanted stairs later and Brookline found a dark figure sitting on the staircase, most likely looking around for someone, anyone, for help. As Brookline pondered on whether she should ask the young silhouette, an item slipped out of the bag and clattered to the floor. The item (probably a quill) bounced a couple feet before the eagle flashed out her hand and grabbed it. Brookline shoved it back into the satchel she found and she noticed the student who was sitting stood now, the person now glancing at her. Like she had said, most likely the slhouette needed help.

Exhaling, Brookline pulled out her wand, lighting her wand with a spell (“Lumos.”) and pointed the stick towards the person. “Hello?” Brookline approached the figure, and the light made the shadow turn into a young girl with long dark brown hair. “Ravenclaw-third year here. Everything okay? I’m pretty sure curfew might be here soon.”

Brookline glanced down at the extra handbag at her wrist. She held it out to the underclassman, her gaze questioning despite the raging in her insides. “Uh, is this yours? Found it on the stairs, or more, like, tripped on it.” The girl gave a weak chuckle, her chest moving slowly with the sloppy effort. The light shone slightly brighter and Brookline noticed that the underclassman’s eyes were watery. She wondered if the student had lost her way on these enchanted stairs or perhaps this satchel was really was her bag and couldn’t walk into the common room without it. Brookline would never forgive herself if she didn’t help this girl so she took a step closer and gave a small smile to the other witch.

“You all right? Lost your way?” Brookline would ask, her voice as gentle as it could. “Um, if you’re a Ravenclaw, I can lead you to the common room. If not, I can try to direct you to a patrolling prefect.” Despite her own fears and anxiety, she gave the younger girl her best impression with another smile. She just hoped that the girl didn’t think Brookline was stepping on her toes.
