He watched, with no small amount of displeasure, as Meiyu literally slipped through his fingers.

No, that was inappropriate. She didn't so much as slip as she did brush him aside. And she had every right to. Of course. The other girl, the one who'd made the hair on the back of his neck stand on ends, was clearly a close friend of hers. A relationship he wasn't privy to and never would be. A person who captured Meiyu's attention so easily, so warmly, so simply compared to whatever his floundering amounted to.

His jaw clenched, but he kept moving all the same. To interrupt would be rude, after all.

But push quickly came to shove, and he watched as Meiyu traversed the foliage, pushing into the next zone with their teammates. In contrast, he was left behind. The situation didn't sit right with him, all for a reason he couldn't exactly place, but he knew better than to argue against his team's tactics. In any team-based competition, trust and cooperation were imperative. Thus, he'd trust. He'd cooperate. Even with—

"Who's this? Your pet or somethin'?"

... the nonsensical words coming out of his peer's mouth. Pet? He was seriously just called a pet? And by... Jamie's face scrunched with disgust as he watched the other boy squash a bug, just to immediately scratch his behind. What kind of person was this?

"Please tell me you've received some kind of... home training," he said, a familiar kind of irritation building within his chest. Slowly. Steadily. He passed a glance between the ghostly girl and this... potentially unhygienic blonde. "Anyway, let's stay focused. All this fooling around will do nothing more than slow us down."

For once, he didn't bother refining the words before they left his mouth. There was far too much going on, far too many things refusing to go his way—and although he's used to less than ideal circumstances, he ironically couldn't get the image of Meiyu walking away, ignoring him, out of his mind.

xxxxMeiyu had soon bid Hana a farewell as she wandered ahead of the group with Evpraksiya and the Slytherin prefect whose name was beside her. Lifting a gloved finger, Hana slowly wiggled each of her fingers as the former red-head faded in the distance.

Before she could address the two boys, everyone was seemingly plunged with ice cold water from the sky. Her eyes widened as her lips twitched upward slightly—the feeling were similar to that of being waterboarded. Oh, how she missed home.

"What is a tequila? Is it a vita component to this downpour ritual," Hana inquired curiously, leaning closer to him as she awaited an answer, "You shall show me how to conduct such a ritual when the game was completed." Despite the unfortunate occurrence, Hana continued to move about the battlefield with grace, despite her appearance now reminiscent of a wet feline.

She wasn't sure why but the words that came out of the big-nosed boy's mouth served to do nothing but irritate her. His mood was sour, his face was sour—everything about him seemed unpleasant. "I am unsure if you are unaware of your surroundings, but, due to the sudden downpour we are already 'slowed down.' I advise you to curb your insolence if we are to continue this game together."

Will format later
It seemed, at least for Lottie and her two wayward "compatriots," that this match was turning out rather dull. That wasn't to say it was unideal - from the sounds of rushing water and surprised shrieks, Lottie was glad to be on the dry end of that predicament.

It was a strange collection, Lottie, Meiyu, and Evpraksiya. Two current prefects and a former. In fact, the former that had directly preceded Lottie. Perhaps that was a part of her distrust for the girl. A deep and wary curiosity. Though the rumor mill had done it's magic, Lottie still didn't know exactly what had brought Evpraksiya down from her position. She wished she could say she didn't want to, but her recent investigative spirit had her craving any lick of information.

Abruptly, she was tugged from her thoughts by a somewhat familiar voice. Meiyu Xiang, Gryffindor prefect. That was about the extent of Lottie's knowledge regarding the girl, save for maybe a few scattered rumors and remarks she hadn't cared to hold onto. Her pleasantries were both a relief and a vague reminder of Lottie's recent ascension to some degree of popularity.

"Meiyu, yes? The pleasure is mine," Though a smile failed to upturn her lips, a light air of familiarity allowed a pleasant atmosphere to engulf the girls.

A sudden shift in energy had Lottie's eyes darting around the zone, searching for what Meiyu saw that she didn't. At her hurried question, Lottie's expression turned guilty.

She said, "Er- not particularly. But I'll try my best." Following Meiyu's lead, Lottie procured her wand and stood at the ready.

26TH OF JUNE, 2026 IN THE JUNGLE ARENA
MODERATION — ROUND THREE.
The unpredictable weather of the Amazonas had the arena in its chokehold, albeit mild this round. Mist, two consecutive downpours, and a lone jaguar crept over the zones. Finishing up his trap, @Aodhan Shaw was the only one subjected to a heavy mist in Zone One, but the boy managed to maneuver the surroundings with surprising accuracy. After needing several attempts to make a trap, Santiago would not have been surprised if he had gotten lost in the severely limited view.

The rain never stopped pouring in Zone Two, though it did little to bother the Toucans, instead granting them a distinct advantage over their opponents. Spotting enemies in the zone, fortune seemed firmly on their side. @Diana Roberts was still struggling to free herself from the mud left behind by the downpour, while @Avery Grey had likewise fallen victim to its sticky grasp. The outcome practically wrote itself with their opponents stuck or otherwise standing around aimlessly, yet every offensive attempt somehow fell flat.

Diana, in theory, never stood a chance when @Fire Davis aimed his wand at her. In practice, however, the spell amounted to little more than a pathetic fizzle from the tip of his wand, a clear overestimation of his own competence. @Jamie Saeng opted for a more physical approach, charging at @Avery Grey with wavering confidence. What exactly he intended to accomplish remained wholly unclear as he barreled straight past her, catching nothing but rain-soaked air. It had looked vaguely like the beginnings of a tackle, but by the end of it both Avery and Santiago were left equally bewildered, staring after the boy as though he had forgotten his own plan halfway through.

While the boys failed their embarrassingly simple tasks, @Livia Machavariani finished up her successful trap. Meanwhile @Hana Bakir surveyed the zone for the hidden flag, and found none. They were soon joined by @Charlotte Winfield, who came sprinting back from Zone Three, injured, after being attacked by a jaguar. With the sudden change of plans, she lost sight of @Mikey Forville before she could properly aim her spell at him, despite the situation being heavily in her favor. The spell was successful, but bounced uselessly against the surrounding foliage.

The rest of Zone Three fared little better. Everyone except @Meiyu Xiang seemed content to linger in place, while her own attempt to locate the flag yielded no results. Frankly, Santiago was beginning to suspect that the entire Scarlet Macaw team had collectively forgotten their strategy this round.

Equally little happened near Scarlet Macaw's base, save for @Emiline Hunter being forced to spend even more time in the trench after the downpour threw off her footing. At the very least, they still had a trap that would hopefully yield better results for them.

HOW TO PLAY

The game ends when either team successfully retrieved the other teams flag to their base. Team Toucan will be starting the game in Zone 1 and Team Scarlet Macaw will be in Zone 4 at the opposite end of the arena. There will be at most 10 rounds, each requiring a post of 200+ words. Please make sure you include your character's stats in your post.

During the first round only, each team must state which zone their flag is hidden in to the thread moderator. You may chose to hide the flag in any of the 4 zones. The flag remains in that zone unless successfully discovered or moved through gameplay mechanics. Do not reveal in game where the flag is located.

Each round, everyone in the team must make at least one action from the Capture the Flag actions list, unless they are unable to act due to a status effect or restriction. These actions are zone dependent. The team scores points by making successful flag actions or interceptive actions towards a flag carrier. Please note that players may only move between adjacent zones and cannot skip zones while travelling.

At the conclusion of each round, the zone state map will be updated to reflect all player locations. Players may only target characters who are in the same zone as them at the end of the previous round. If a target moves out of the zone during the following movement phase, the action automatically fails, with the exception of Flag Intercept and non-magical support actions that include a chase mechanic. When performing these actions, the player automatically follows the target into the destination zone as part of the interaction.

If the action fails while chasing, the pursuing player is left behind in the original zone while the target successfully gains distance.

Rules regarding roll resolution, action priority, and other game mechanics can be found HERE.

At least one member of the team must owl the entire teams' action list to @Santiago Peralta before the posting deadline.

The rainforest refused to make anything easy, which was starting to get annoying. Even after someone had saved her from becoming one with the earth, Diana found that every step through Zone Two demanded careful attention. Rain continued to pour from the sky, drumming against the thick canopy overhead before cascading onto the flooded ground below. Her black cardigan clung heavily to her arms, and her soaked jeans brushed uncomfortably against her legs with every movement. Her Converse made quiet squelching noises each time she lifted them from the mud. Perhaps Diana should've worn a different outfit than the one she was currently wearing. But then again, she was used to England weather, not Brazilian weather. She let out a small sigh. "I don't think I'll ever complain about rainy days in England again."

Diana glanced down and tried to rub off some of the thick mud from the sides of her shoes against and nearby rock, which barely helped. Only a clean layer came off while the rest stubbornly stayed there. She couldn't help smiling to herself despite everything. First mischievous monkeys had stolen her wand, then the jungle had nearly swallowed her whole. Castelobruxo certainly knew how to make a first impression. Still, she found the school and this Capture the Flag event interesting.

Diana slipped her hand into her pocket and felt for her wand. She was relieved when she felt it. At least it hadn't been stolen again. Movement took her attention away from her being relieved that she still had her wand. Several members of Team Toucan stood only a short distance away, partially obscured by the curtain of rain. Diana instinctively straightened, watching them through the downpour. Before she had much time to think, she noticed one of them raising a wand in her direction. Diana tightened her grip on her own wand. She had never dueled before, but she was more than ready to defend herself if she needed to.

However, a spell never came. There was no light. Diana wasn't hit by anything. Instead, only a faint fizz escaped the tip of the other student's wand before disappearing into the rain almost as quickly as it had appeared causing Diana to blink. "...Was that aimed at me?" The young Ravenclaw wasn't entirely sure, but it certainly looked that way. Whatever had been intended, the rainforest seemed determined to interfere with everyone equally today. On the bright side, she didn't need to have a duel with whoever cast a spell on her.

However, nearby Avery wasn't having much better luck. Diana glanced at the older girl and saw that she had become trapped in the thick mud as well. A sympathetic expression crossed her face. "Hang in there," she called gently over the sound of the rain. "Hopefully it'll let you go sooner than it let me."

Her muted grey-green eyes then drifted back across the swampy terrain. Water rippled around exposed roots, puddles hid beneath the muddy surface, and every uncertain step seemed capable of becoming another trap. The rainforest remained beautiful in its own wild way, but it demanded constant respect. Then in the back of Diana's mind a familiar feeling settled there. It wasn't fear. It was just some quiet instinct reminding her to stay alert. She had long since stopped questioning those feelings. Whether they came from experience, coincidence, or something she couldn't quite explain, ignoring them rarely seemed wise. Plus, every since she found out she was a Seer, whenever she got these feelings, she decided to let them be and listen to them if they became to overwhelming.

Drawing a slow breath, Diana steadied herself and continued watching both the rainforest and the opposing team. "So much for thinking the jungle had run out of surprises." Because it was clear, the jungle hadn't, and the opposing team probably had a few surprises to send toward her or Avery. For now though patience was the best thing she could offer her team. The game was far from over, and if today had taught her anything, it was that the rainforest always seemed to have one more challenge waiting just around the corner.

CICTF Toucan vs. Scarlet Macaw
The glint of light caught his eye as it flickered off to his right side. Without thinking Mikey flinched, automatically sinking down into a crouch behind the massive tree trunk nearest him. His heart pounded in his chest as he waited for the pain of a spell to hit him, but he found that nothing seemed to happen. The spell shot past him without hitting its mark and embedded itself into a curtain of vines that fell away to reveal an explosion of green leaves further in the forest.

He crouched there in the silence for a minute, not hearing any more sound apart from the pitter patter of the rain dripping from the canopy. The distant cries of birds called somewhere in the air. Slowly he pushed himself up from behind the safety of the tree trunk and scanned the thick underbrush. "I think I dodged a bullet there," he muttered to himself. A half nervous smile twitched at the edges of his mouth. It was all well and good to know that people would try to throw spells at you during a game like this one, but it was something else entirely to witness it in person.

Mikey surveyed the area, trying to determine the source of the spell and where his opponents were hiding, but the ferns, vines and patches of mist made it impossible to tell where anyone was hiding. Tightly gripping his wand he took a deep breath and pushed himself away from the protective cover of the tree. He couldn't keep charging headlong through the jungle. It was obvious that that wasn't working since every path looked the same as the last and he ended up even more confused than when he started.

What a seriously weird jungle this was. Or... Okay, it made sense that it was weird, considering the place was likely imbued with magic. But did it have to insist on bothering him with so much?

As if having to reveal his incredible dodging skills wasn't enough, now a suddenly thick mist had filled the area. Thankfully, he was blessed with genetics and skills from the gods, so although its presence was certainly a distraction, Aodhan found that he could still see relatively fine. Honestly, he was reminded of the dueling matches he moderated earlier in the year. Nebulus this, Nebulus that. Having to deal with such an irritating spell made this little more than an annoyance.

Ignoring the jungle's foolish attempt at blinding him, Aodhan sadly found himself very, very bored all the same. Though, he did just finish setting up his trap despite all the setbacks... Maybe he could push forward and meet with the others? Or maybe...

He did just finish setting up his trap despite all the setbacks (and what a wonderful trap it was, if he had anything to say about it)... Maybe he could push forward and meet with the others?

Suddenly, he was struck by a brilliant vision of the future.

Indeed, he could imagine it in vivid detail. There Aodhan would be, forging onward in desperation, thoughts of his teammates's survival rushing through his mind like a raging torrent. He'd arrive at the last minute like Goku, his "friends" (well, at least one of them was), pushed to their absolute limits, most knocked to the ground, and the rest maintaining consciousness through sheer willpower alone. The sight would infuriate him—how dare those cretins!—but he'd remain calm on the outside. Smooth. Nonchalant, despite anger burning him to the core.

Then he'd unleash his wand and, in a great show of strength and magic prowess, launch the magic Kamehameha wave that he'd been working so hard to master!

Or, he could be sensible and defend home base.

He sighed and leaned against a nearby tree, tapping his chin in deep thought. What to do, what to do...

"I am unsure if you are unaware of your surroundings, but, due to the sudden downpour we are already 'slowed down.' I advise you to curb your insolence if we are to continue this game together."

Immediately, Jamie's head turned, and at first, sheer disgust settled across his features. It slithered into the downward curve of his mouth, into his furrowed brows, into the harshness of his eyes, into every crevice, every crack.

Then, it disappeared just as quickly as it came.

For him, there was a moment of silence as his gaze shifted upwards. Water droplets came down incessantly, tickling the bits of his face left unprotected by his cap. She was right. It felt like nothing he couldn't overcome, simply another hurdle in a long, long line, but she was right. For all he knew, they needed far more adjustment than he did. So, he needed to calm down. His sister—she would have a better grip, wouldn't she? Think of her.

What would Jamie actually do?

"Apologies. I don't know what came over me," he said, channeling an aura of calm. "I'll work to be better." Because that's what he always had to strive for anyway. But his eyes lingered on Hana for a second too long after that, and his eye twitched, and he swore that if he didn't already know better, then he would—no. Focus.

He took their remaining free time as a chance to practice breathing. In and out, mentally counting upwards and back down again. It didn't do much, but it was something until their opponents breached the area. And breach they did.

Jamie was able to catch two people entering the zone, and with rage resting just underneath his skin, he had no qualms with rushing them. On instinct, he moved to tackle the one he thought most affected by the rain, but in the very last minute, he... faltered. Slipped right past her instead. A tackle? What was he doing? He was supposed to be a wizard, good with magic, rushing to use magic! But—

He groaned. What a mess.

CICTF Toucan vs. Scarlet Macaw
Though Livia was to remain behind her beloved elder cousin, this proved to be of minimal issue. She busied herself with finishing the trap she had begun, the improvised materials coming together and forming something that would be at least problematic, if not overtly damaging, to the other team. The pieces clicked together like harmonious woodwork, bringing a warm sense of satisfaction to Livia's soul. She did not smile, but, perhaps against her better judgement, she found herself zoning into the work, everything else all but forgotten to her as she focused on the tangible, lifelike feeling of wood against her fingers.

Only when rain began to peter down through the canopy of the trees did the girl glance upwards. Green eyes stared into the mirroring colour of the leaves, peering as if able to pierce through and observe the overcast sky above. She cautiously moved herself away from the now-finished trap, deciding that, though she did not mind the rain, it would be better to avoid it than let it impede her movement. Ultimately, she ducked underneath a larger branch, watching with wide eyes as the downpour began to intensify. It seemed to be only rain – calming, methodical and hardly harmful. Nonetheless, its rhythmic collapse against the forest floor proved just as calming as the building of the trap had been to Livia, and she watched like a cat eyeing water dripping from a faucet.

CICTF Toucan vs. Scarlet Macaw
The failed attempt to gauge out the opposing team’s flag had begun to irk the young girl — her endeavours going to waste but fortunately, fate on her side for once. Mostly making it through unscathed, she had fixated on Jamie for most of the rounds, now left with Evpraksiya and Charlotte who had somehow found failure whilst her beloved doll had not moved an inch.

It was much like the lack of luck which accompanied most duels this year, Meiyu growing slightly agitated by the mere second the round continued. At least Charlotte had been pretty alluring to look at, though it was not enough to entice the others who were in the zone, nowhere to be seen nor heard.

“Do you think there’s anyone here, or are they just hiding like prey?” She spoke brashly, eyes gawking around the surrounding trees and branches that cascaded the zone they were in. If her words were true, she hoped they would come out so she could unleash her inner lion, primal instincts finally showing and bringing the action she desired the entire game.

Still, the game was in it’s early stages and the eldest Xiang could only use this opportunity to truly hone in on patience, something she had very minimal of.
