Dang it! The game had started and she hadn’t been watching. The day was hot and humid, the kind of day you would want to spend indoors somewhere with air conditioning. It was also the kind to lull people to sleep or, at least, into a drowsy state. Exactly that had happened to her as she waited for the whistle, her eyes unfocusing, breath slowing and completely zoning out of her surroundings.
The whooshing sound of everyone else taking off was what brought her back to reality. Kicking off the ground, she soared up to meet her teammates.
She was dressed in a black tank top and track pants, probably not the best idea considering the weather. Her hair, it’s ends now reaching the base of her spine, had been wrangled into a winding braid that now waves behind her as she flew.
Their team was already suffering, their captain had been knocked unconscious by a fifth year playing on the opposing team. How is this fair? she thought to herself. If she could take out a person with a single hit, who knew what else she could do? If that in itself wasn’t terrifying enough on its own, it didn’t help that she was the oldest on the pitch.

No, no, no, no, no, no, no... This match had just started and was already going horribly. Ebony was dangerously strong, and Ophelia realized she envied that. The other girl had bludgered their captain and second beater, the impact so strong that he'd been knocked off his broom, unconscious. As much as Ophelia wanted to fly down to get him before he hit the ground, she knew she couldn't reach him in time, because she'd frozen when she saw that happen in front of her eyes, and she still had to concentrate on the match.Looking to the more positive side of the game, they'd scored thirty points already, thanks to
Avis who scored them, and no Quaffle had entered their goals yet, thanks to Lily's fast movement. Just as she thought the game couldn't get any better.... or worse.
"Shit-" she shrieked as Amalie blatched her, embracing herself for an impact out of reflex. But, surprisingly, nothing came. Ophelia opened her eyes when she finally felt the familiar feeling of sitting on a broom. Ah, yes, Lauren Vanes, the girl you are. Ophelia let out a sigh of relief, "you're literally a saviour," she whispered to her, then looked around while holding onto the girl to analyze the worsened situation.|

Speech -- Thoughts
Flying was easier.
The waiting had been the difficult part. Once her feet left the ground, everything else settled into place almost automatically. Wind. Speed. Broom. Breathe.
Look.
Look again.
Still no Snitch.
Pam drifted higher, squinting against the morning sun.
Maybe she'd imagined seeing something.
No.
That had definitely just been a very shiny bird.
She sighed.
Fantastic.
Below, someone scored.
People cheered.
She looked down just long enough to see red jerseys celebrating before forcing herself to stop watching.
Not my problem. Not today.
Well.
Hopefully not.
Her eyes wandered back across the sky.
There had to be something.
The Snitch couldn't just disappear
Actually,it was the Snitch, so it probably could.
A crack echoed across the pitch and Pam instinctively turned.
"Oh."
Their captain was falling.
That...
That wasn't supposed to happen.
She hovered for a second longer than she should have.
People were already moving beneath him. Denise practically launched herself off her broom, and a couple of students ran over to help.
Somehow that did not get easier to watch no matter how many matches she'd already participated in.
She watched until someone shouted for the match to continue.
Right.
The match.
Pam looked away before she could keep staring.
Focus.
She angled her broom lower, weaving across the middle of the pitch instead of circling again.
Still nothing.
Not even a flash.
She caught sight of Henry nearby, attention fixed somewhere behind her.
Without really thinking— Well, thinking slightly— she nudged her broom sideways and threw a shoulder into him as they crossed paths.
It almost worked.
Almost.
Someone caught him before he could fall far enough to leave the game.
"...Seriously?"
Pam muttered under her breath, already pulling away.
Then—
"GRAHAM! LECLERC! I SAW THAT! PENALTY LAP!"
...
Right.
She'd forgotten referees usually watched the game.
"Sorry!"
Whether Denise heard that over everyone else was... debatable.
With a quiet sigh, she peeled away from the play and started the penalty lap instead.
One lap.
Could've been worse.

Lily was up in the air, straining to watch what was happening. There was a girl on her team. What was her name? Oh, right, Avis or something like that. She saw Avis grab the Quaffle and score... TWICE! That was great! And oh.

The Quaffle was with the opposite team now, a girl zooming her way, apparently determined to score. But Lily was prepared. She blocked it from going into the post. The girl somehow grabbed it again. Ugh, where was Avis? Lily needed to give the Quaffle to her at any cost. But right now, what was more important than finding Avis was blocking Rosy's attempt. She barely managed to block it with her fingertips.
At least it hadn't gotten into the goal. That's what mattered most.
And there was Avis, bless her. She had somehow managed to get the red ball again, and SCORE!! It was absolutely perfect! Which obviously meant that some sort of trouble was going to happen soon.
And of course, as Lily had predicted, someone on her team was kicked off their broom. Ooof, that looked rough from a distance. She flew down momentarily to look at the boy. Apparently, the boy had fallen onto the grass. That was bad. They had lost one of their members. Sure, other players could replace him, but still.
She sighed and flew back up to guard the posts. She couldn't afford to lose any points. She wasn't sure if she could do it. She had to, though, not just for the team, but for herself. Even though this was just an official match, it mattered just enough to her.
"Focus," she told her brain.

793.200 | action as strategizedxxxBrookline observed her unofficial teammates slip into the game, hands securing around wooden broom handles and bats. Rather keen eyes were getting trained for that evasive little twerp. Blood red and midnight black spheres flying into direct place.
Oh well, I mean, all is fair in love and war, she thought with a smug shrug of her shoulders. Brookline was ready to observe, crude remarks ready to roll off her lips, and she tightened her laces.
Before the Quidditch match started, Avis, a fellow Ravenclaw, shot a small smile over to Brookline gave a weak grin back the Eagles’ chaser. The Quidditch player went over to Team 1, and the Welsh girl silently mourned. The fact that a seasoned Chaser like Avis wasn’t on their team made Brookline feel a little skeptical about their chances. At least they had terrifying Ebony, another Ravenclaw. (@Avis Greymond)
Back to the present, and already the girl was bored. Her disinterested gaze flicked to the elastics on her wrist, the taut black band tightening. Brookline knew at the end of her long day, she would have red and deep indentations. She didn’t necessarily care; it reminded her that she wasn’t invincible and she was able to get temporary marks akin to everyone else. It reminded her that she was still here.
A younger student with a rather loud jersey sat on their side with her. Another second-string. The Ravenclaw saw the name on the back of his shirt was Turner, and she assumed that was the lad’s surname. “I’m Paul,” the boy turned to Brookline with a grin. She froze for a second, what in the name of Merlin was she supposed to say? This underclassman wanted to strategize and talk with her? Who would want to talk to her? Why, oh why, Marie? Why the hell would you bail? Why the hell are you so shy?
“Uh, hey. Brookline,” she managed to get out, “Brookline, uh, Quinn. I’m a Ravenclaw-third year. No, I don’t think I know Denise, if that’s who you’re referring to as Den.” The girl cringed at the light sound of her voice, her accent bright and as Brookline describes it, unmistakably sour. Normally she adored her Welsh origins, but today, she cursed them for granting her with this ridiculous accent.
Turner began to cheer for their seeker and Brookline sent her flying teammates a thumbs up and a cheesy smile to anyone who would catch it. The thumbs up, in question, was quite lazy and more for shits and giggles than actual support. She just wanted to seem normal and how was that so hard to grasp? The Gryffindor kept yakking as the game unfolded, and Brookline was glad for the first year’s chatter. At least she didn’t have to offer her own piece in the conversation. Paul even continued to cheer and at one point he whistled. Brookline nodded blankly, and thought, Yep, this is what I will have to go through this match. Let’s hope it ends early.
Greymond gave Team 1 thirty points (Brookline wished they could go back in time and rearrange the teams slightly again, perhaps 30-point Avis could get Team 2 some points), and Clarke blocked Parker’s shot. Leclerc, Team 2’s literal keeper, decided to slam an arm into Team 1’s beater and earned herself a rather unfair penalty lap. Brookline just hoped that Team 1 didn’t see those quite obviously unguarded hoops and decide to shoot some goals. Then, Vetra slammed a lighting-fast bludger right into Pass, and down the fellow third year went. She was on the edge of her seat as the nice lads carried Pass off the pitch. Now Brookline was more than scared. She knew any bludger would hurt like crazy but Vetra’s? It knocked Pass out clean. Brookline then watched as Goblet Boy (Henry) was blatched out of the sky by Brookline’s friend, Pamela, and down he — oh well, never mind that. A teammate swept Holbrook from his overwhelming doom and helped him onto their broom. At least Pam got a lap akin to Leclerc.
All right, way to go. They just needed to do more. At least neither Turner nor I have to go fill in the first round, Brookline thought, a puff of air escaping her lips. She hoped her teammates were well-versed in Quidditch more than her thus causing her not to sub in. Brookline crossed her fingers and pulled her knees to her chest. “We should get some points soon,” She murmured to herself, a palm raising to itch her nose. If she had glasses, then her fingers would be all over her face, always pushing those frames up.
Okay. All we need to do is cut them off and throw that Quaffle around. Hopefully. Perhaps. Right??

Color code : Written | Thought | SaidThe game began, and everyone was moving here and there, flashing across the sky on their brooms, leaving Sere confused. Her vision had never been that wide to take in everything happening in front of her, and now she didn't know who to focus on.
Sere saw someone familiar to her, Avis Greymond, score for her team, and she nodded proudly. This was even better with the fact that the opposing team hadn't managed to score in this round. Team 1's Keeper, Lily Clarke, had successfully made two high speed blocks.
The Gryffindor heard her fellow Second-String teammate boo someone. Seeing who her target was, Sere followed with the same action. Ebony Vetra, was that her name? The Ravenclaw's presence looked intimidating and would likely put Team 1 in a difficult position with her senior-level abilities.
She saw Prat trying to blatch Ebony as well; perhaps the feeling was valid and shared by the entire team. Just a moment later... Ugh! That iron ball hit Prat so hard, caused him to fall off his broom and couldn't get back into the game. The Gryffindor felt goosebumps rise on her skin. And when Denise exclaimed, she realized that Pamela Graham was trying to blatch the opposing team's chaser.
What should she do now? Sere tried to recall all the Quidditch material she had learned in Flying Class, as if all those textbook material could help her find the right action to take in the current situation.WC : 245/200

| xx | Being faced with a barrage of negativity from the bench sure was one way to begin the game. It was not common for people to direct their jeers toward her, and the beater was not accustomed to being given any attention from the bench; Ebony did not think she would come off as threatening, though she supposed she stood out amidst first years who might be playing Quidditch for the very first time. Or perhaps she was too arrogant to think so — it was possible that the benched players simply disliked her personally, though she struggled to come up with any plausible reason for strangers to dislike her. It wasn't as though she was particularly offputting, was she? Though she did not want to admit it and did not let it show, the negativity was slightly disorienting. As much as she tried not to let any hateful words get to her, her broomwork just seemed to become slightly messier, her grip on her bat slightly slackening, some of her usual power lost. It did not help that the game was not off to the start that she had expected. Her team's score had remained stagnant since the beginning — a roundabout way to say zero, really — with the other team racking up thirty points almost in the blink of an eye. She did have to commend their team's Chaser — a blue-eyed Hufflepuff boy (Henry) — for managing to snag the Quaffle a couple times even though he was facing off against Avis, her Ravenclaw Quidditch teammate. And although Ebony wanted to win this match, that desire did not triumph over her house spirit; pride still inevitably bloomed as she watched her teammate and her fantastic Quaffle handling. She was shaping up to a brilliant Chaser. Seeing an opportunity to make contact with the bludger, the beater angled her bat towards Prat, who had also played as beater during the game that she had refereed. She had seen what destruction the boy was capable of. Perhaps she had been particularly lucky with the direction the wind was flowing or the angle in which she had lined herself up with the bludger, but the metal ball seemed to slice through the air more cleanly than usual, meeting with its target remarkably crisply. The usual rush of adrenaline and excitement coursed through the brunette as she stared wide-eyed at the boy succumbing to gravity almost psychopathically. She looked up again to see the Hufflepuff chaser on her team giving her a thumbs up; Ebony returned a thumbs up of her own, a rare, Quidditch-exclusive grin accompanying it. |

Amethyst scowled at what looked like ants sitting in a box, up in the air. The game had not even begun, and they had resorted to booing her teammate.
As if it would affect the Ravenclaw's seasoned skills.
The Slytherin tried her best to search for the snitch, while keeping an eye on the game. A bludger came Amethyst's way, and memories of her being thwacked by the bludger in the side of her head flooded instantly. By reflex, or more of her broom's reflex, she evaded. The basically stolen moontrimmer worked beautifully well with the seeker's own skills. It was however low of Ophelia. Amethyst vividly remembered the sadness that drowned her when Ophelia Vanderbilt was knocked off her broom in their previous unofficial quidditch match. Quidditch, was perhaps, nothing more than a social construct. A deep sigh escaped her lips.
She watched the game proceed for a moment, still deep in her thoughts and distracted. The idea of social constructs had struck her deep.
Ebony Vetra's skills were no joke. The crack echoed through the arena, as the other team's captain lay flat on the grass, unconscious. Amethyst did not know whether it was admirable or simply, scary.

Danielle hardly took her eyes away from the field.
This game was being played with amazing speed, brooms flying everywhere in bursts of scarlet and blue as the crowd cheered every successful pass and interception. She could even feel adrenaline surging through the stands despite sitting in the second-string bench.
As Avis found the hoops and scored another goal for Team One, Danielle leapt up to cheer.
"Go! That's it!"
The cheering around her became even more intense as Lily Clarke blocked an attempted shot by the opponent's Chaser, earning more applause from the crowd. Danielle grinned. They were finally back in the swing of things.
Until she turned her eyes back to a familiar Ravenclaw weaving through the chaos.
Ebony Vetra.
Danielle knew all too well how dangerous the girl was in Quidditch. As Ebony made another run across the field, Danielle cupped her hands around her mouth.
"Boooo, Ebony!"
She laughed as a few of her teammates repeated the mocking cheers from the sideline. It wasn’t personal—it was Quidditch. In fact, it was more of a compliment. People only heckle those players who they believed could change the course of the match entirely.
The following second brought a familiar crack in the air as a Bludger slammed against some unfortunate soul out there on the pitch.
Danielle couldn’t help but cringe a bit.
"...Ouch."
Her grin slowly turning to one of worry as she leaned forward, watching the match once more.

"𝓴𝓲𝓵𝓵 𝓽𝓱𝓮𝓶 𝔀𝓲𝓽𝓱 𝓼𝓾𝓬𝓬𝓮𝓼𝓼 𝓪𝓷𝓭 𝓫𝓾𝓻𝔂 𝓽𝓱𝓮𝓶 𝔀𝓲𝓽𝓱 𝓪 𝓼𝓶𝓲𝓵𝓮."
🆂hit. The first thing she saw was someone falling from the sky to the sticky grass below. She abandoned the loops to be able to see more clearly and to pick up more details from the fallen player, and realised with a jolt that it was their team's captain, Prat (she privately thought that whoever would name their child 'prat' was out of their mind, but who was she to judge?). She remembered that the tall and sturdy Slytherin had been a star beater, then sighed. Things really wasn't looking great for her team.
Her revenge-oriented self starting searching the players for whoever had knocked Prat unconscious. To be honest, Lauren wasn't even sure that someone had attacked him and that he hadn't slipped and fell off his broom due to sheer carelessness, but she didn't have time to doubt herself any more. She looked around wildly, trying to scan the other team's players to find a guilty face. Then it would be mission accomplished when she found the team's other beater -- who was it? Right, she remembered -- it was Ophelia Vanderbilt. She had seen the other girl once or twice before, and she seemed... cool.
Her wish was granted, though not necessarily in a good way, when something heavy crashed on her. She glared upwards to find the source of commotion, and out of the corner of her eye, she glimpsed Amalie knocking a girl off their broom. Then she saw who she was -- Ophelia. She wanted to find her, but not in this way. There were no more 'soft spots' for her roommate anymore; she tried to get to her and teach her a lesson, but Denise, the moderator, had already issued a penalty lap for her and someone called 'Graham'. She didn't know what was going on in the other side of the Quidditch Pitch, but judging by her shout, it was not something good, but still managed a smug smile.
It might have partly been because their team was already thirty points ahead. Lauren would have preferred to throw the Quaffle in herself, but she guessed that in Quidditch matches, she would have to let the experienced players do most of it. She felt a prickle of guilt when she remembered that she hadn't been focusing on the Quaffle in the past moments, but rather on the unconscious, potentially dead beater and the weight of Ophelia Vanderbilt.
She made a mental note to tackle Amalie in the dormitory, when everything was finished. In this moment, Lauren would have to focus on helping Ophelia, to try and save her life so she wouldn't end up like Prat. The last thing she wanted was for the team to be left without any beaters. That would be a nightmare. She shuddered, and directed her attention to Ophelia.
"You okay?" she asked shakily. Then she corrected herself. "No, you have to be okay, because the team is not going to survive without you."
