A Furry Friend
PV @Alan Vanes── ❋ ──𝓐madea's daily walks around the grounds might be considered quite mundane and boring to others; after all, three years of taking walks around the same area had to get boring eventually, right? To Amadea, it didn't. There was always something exciting about each day that she could have never experienced during her previous walk. The Grounds was big enough that she could even stray toward different areas, sometimes choosing to walk toward the Great Lake or head toward the Quidditch Pitch instead. There were plenty of options for Amadea, especially considering the sheer size of the outdoor area Hogwarts had to offer.
Today, Amadea had decided to stick with a normal route, following the paths around the castle on the grounds closest to it. The sun was shining and the birds were chirping; it felt like a beginning of one of those upbeat and happy movies. As she walked along, there were many students milling around, talking and laughing with each other. Amadea tried to keep to herself, remembering the many times she had accidentally bumped into someone during a walk. While most people were quite nice about it, she didn't want to risk ticking anyone off, especially on such a nice day.
Amadea turned a corner and immediately came to a halt. In front of her stood a small, striped cat. She looked down at it. Cats were never something that Amadea loved. She was definitely more of a dog person herself; cats had those creepy beady eyes and they hissed too often. With dogs, there was never a question about what they meant or how much they loved you, but with cats it was much harder to distinguish their feelings. Amadea didn't like how complicated cats were. It also didn't help that her best friend's cat was an absolute lunatic; Leo kind of ruined cats for Amadea. Thankfully, this one didn't seem to be as crazy as Leo. She surveyed the area, looking for the possible owner. She knew that cats liked to stray on their own but with all of the people out on the Grounds, she wanted to make sure that it found its way back to its owner; considering the size of the Grounds and the amount of students enjoying the beautiful day, it would be easy for the poor cat to get lost.
Sitting in the grass in the distance, Amadea noticed a boy. Maybe the cat belonged to him? There was no one else simply sitting; everyone else was moving around and Amadea figured that whoever owned this cat wasn't going to just set it down and walk away. It was much more plausible that the boy just was engrossed in whatever he was doing in the grass and the cat wandered away to where Amadea now stood.
She looked down at the cat and pointed toward the boy. "Let's go over there," Amadea said to it. "Is that your owner?" She felt kind of stupid talking to the cat since she knew it couldn't understand her, but she wasn't sure what else she should do. She took a few steps and looked back at the cat, which had now sat down and started to lick itself. Amadea sighed. There was only one way to do this now. She went back over the cat and gently picked it up, holding it at arm's length in case it was going to attack her. The cat seemed to be a little confused, tilting it's head at Amadea as she stared at it, wide-eyed. Thankfully, it didn't scratch or bite her, so she moved it a little closer to her chest and began walking over the grass to where the boy was seated.
"Um, sorry to bother you," she said when she had reached him. "But is this your cat?"── ❋ ──

A Furry Friend
Alan had been sitting on a nice patch of grass in the grounds as his mind wandered off while he was attempting to count the days left until the summer vacation would start. As much as he loved Hogwarts, the most recent events had made him belief that perhaps going home for a bit was not all too bad. Home, as much as it could feel like a prison to him also was a symbol that represented safety in his mind because after all, his whole life his parents had gone through all lengths to keep him safe and his spirit free. He had sit through a detention and while he did not mind the detention, he was still not through thinking about what had been the cause of it. He did not care much for rules in a way, or for detention for the matter but it had been odd for such an amount of mosps to leave the forest and Jake had been acting incredibly weird that evening. And even after the ball the young lad had seemed weird and more quiet. While the third year could not actually judge that because he was convinced the young kid went through a lot that day, he was worried about the impact the evening had left on the boy and hoped that the little badger would fight his way back to the way he was.
A gentle voice broke him out of his deep thoughts and he looked around as he focused on his surroundings for the first time since he took a dive into his own thoughts. "You aren't," he reassured her after she voiced her concerns of perhaps having bothered him. His voice still sounded a bit absentmindedly but he was slowly regaining his focus on the here and now as his eyes cleared up, he gave her a small smile. "Th-That's Tiger, yeah, why? Did he bother you or anything?" he wondered out loud. Perhaps the feline had tried to snatch some food from her or something when he had walked off or annoyed her in another way. He had no idea but would probably hear about whatever Tiger did as soon as she would reply. "I'm Alan by the way, it's a pleasure to meet you!" he introduced himself to her as well, in case their conversation would go on for longer than a quick chat about Tiger.

── ❋ ──𝓐madea held the cat gingerly in her arms. Carrying cats was not a subject Amadea was well-versed in, and she didn't want to accidentally hurt it. One, that would be terrible for her conscious, considering the cat seemed to be quite nice and two, she didn't want it to scratch her in retaliation.
As she looked down at the boy in front of her, she realized she had broken him out of his thoughts. Amadea hoped that he hadn't been thinking about anything terribly important; she knew how annoying it was to be stopped in the midst of deep thought. Luckily, she hadn't bothered him for nothing; the cat was his! And now she had a name for the cat as well, Tiger, though he didn't seem anything like the vicious cats he was named after.
"Oh no, he wasn't bothering me," Amadea quickly assured the boy. She had just been worried about the poor little cat. Come to think of it, Amadea was slowly beginning to warm to the idea of these furry creatures. Sure, she still much preferred dogs to cats and she still had no regrets about purchasing her owl, Nova, who was probably happily munching away on some food in the owlery. However, now that she had met some other nice cats that weren't as dreadful as her friend Ami's crazy cat, Amadea was realizing that maybe she had unfairly judged them. Maybe instead of them all being crazy with a few exceptions, she was realizing that Leo was probably the exception to the majority of cats that were nice.
"I was taking a walk and I saw him wandering around," Amadea explained. "There's so many people outside today I didn't want him to get lost." Realizing she was still holding Tiger, she bent over and tried to set him down as gently as possible. As she set him down, she heard the boy introducing himself as Alan Vanes. Amadea had heard the name before, but never actually met the boy. "Amadea," she responded, wondering if it was too formal to stick out her hand for a handshake. "Amadea Campbell. It's nice to meet you as well!"── ❋ ──

Alan nodded in slight relief when she told him that Tiger had not been bothering her which in itself was something good. But it also made Alan wonder why she had felt the need to bring Tiger back to the third year but it quickly dawned on him that it must have been her being nice since he knew that not everyone could let their cat wander off and expect them to return. Alan however knew that the four pawed Bengal would not run away and usually always returned no matter where he was prowling around. Lately however the two of them had been inseparable and Alan had been wondering whether it was a coincidence or if the cat actually sensed the up and downs in his mood lately. He knew that Tiger was smart but perhaps he was just imagining things.
"Th-Thank you, th-thats very kind of you t-to do!", he spoke with a light voice as he offered her a smile. She did not look all too comfortable carrying the cat and quickly sat him to the ground where he trotted over to his owner when Alan gestured for the feline to come join him. Now with Tiger back he reached out for the animal and began to pet it gently as he listened to the girl speak. She introduced herself as Amadea and Alan would make sure to remember it, at least he would do his best to do so. "Tiger likes t-to roam and explore, so it's not new t-to me for him t-to wander off like th-this," he explained to her with a soft chuckle.

── ❋ ──𝓝ow that Tiger was out of her arms, Amadea stood awkwardly in front of Alan, unsure of what she should do with her arms. Eventually, she settled for casually crossing them in front of her. Immediately as she did so, she wondered if it made her look too stern or unhappy and fought the urge to release them to hang at her sides. Trying not to think too much about her posture, she focused back in on the conversation.
Tiger had made his way back to his owner and looked quite content as Alan rubbed the cat affectionately. "No worries!" Amadea said brightly; she hoped that he didn't think Tiger's wanderings had inconvenienced her; she was happy to bring him back. "Honestly, I can't blame him," she added. "If I were him I would want to explore too. Hogwarts is so big and there's so much to see." After three years of taking almost daily walks around the Grounds, Amadea felt like she knew the area fairly well. But then again, it had been three years. Plus, Tiger was a lot smaller than she was and though she was sure he was quite quick and nimble, she had a feeling it would take him a lot longer to explore an area than it would take her to.
Now that Tiger was back with his owner, Amadea was unsure of what to do. The conversation seemed like it was a natural ending point, so should she continue it or just walk away now that her job was done here? She had no idea what to do, so she decided to just continue awkwardly standing there and wait for Alan to either bid her farewell or say something else.── ❋ ──

With a light smile on his face he would still glance up the girl who seemed to be slightly in discomfort for a reason Alan was not all too sure about. Perhaps it was simply talking to someone that she did not really know, but Alan could not be all too sure about that either. However he could not ask her about it either because that would overstep personal boundaries since she probably would not want a stranger to be snooping around like this.
"You are right with th-that! And I believe it is even more interesting from th-the view of a cat, you are t-tiny and can explore much more by sneaking around everywhere. He probably knows more secret passageways th-than I do!" he would let her know with a genuine snicker. He was not all too sure if she had found any of the secret passage ways before but there were plenty around Hogwarts and it seemed like the whole castle was alive sometimes. The stairs could even play pranks and lock you in an area which could be a reason for getting late to a class and Alan hoped that would not happen to him anytime soon. Especially because Vernatis might threaten him with detention again which he really had no desire for.
Perhaps the conversation would be over soon or so it seemed for now. But at least the two of them were acquainted now which would make any future encounter easier on both of them because there would be a sense of familiarity.

── ❋ ──𝓐madea breathed a sigh of relief as Alan continued the conversation; she might be less shy but she still didn't have many social skills and carrying a conversation was something she hadn't mastered quite yet. She nodded along as he talked about being a cat and how interesting it would be to explore from their perspective. She had never thought about that before, if she was being honest. Whenever she imagined being an animal, she imagined being a bird that could fly and see the world from above or be a water-dwelling creature so she could see underwater. Being a cat almost seemed unappealing; why would she want to see the world from such a low point on the ground?
"Yes, I guess a cat's perspective could be pretty interesting!" Amadea replied as she thought about it. It was true; they could easily sneak around and see more of the world than she could. "It would definitely be fun to be able to sneak into all of the places I can't fit as a human and see what is there." Involuntarily, she shivered as Alan mentioned the passageways. While they had intrigued Amadea when she first arrived at Hogwarts, she now vowed never again to even go near the entrance to them. During her first year, she had befriended Kyden Goodlow who had shown her the passageways. One time when she and her friend Ami were exploring, they encountered a herd? flock? group of rats that attacked the two girls; from that moment on, Amadea never saw the appeal of exploring the passageways any further.
She relayed this encounter to Alan, hoping that she wasn't boring him with her story. "It was horrible," she said, remembering the dirty feeling she carried around for days after the rats had infested her hair, even though she had showered (multiple times) after the incident. "Though I suppose if you're a cat it could be fun. Don't they hunt rats?"── ❋ ──

He would smile at @Amadea Campbell when she would agree with his idea of being a cat. "Exactly!" he exclaimed when she mentioned the sneakiness about all of this. Alan's smile would level up into a grin that showed a bit of white teeth and hints of dimples around the corner of his mouth. "I guess th-that is why people want t-to be Animagi," he would add with a lighthearted chuckle.
When she told him about an encounter with a mischief [the word you were looking for] of rats and furthermore asked him if cats weren't predators of rats. Again he would ponder his answer for a few quick seconds before he would shrug, then nod his head yes. "Th-They are, well some are! They aren't really allowed t-to hunt in Hogwarts because some students have pet rats so th-that would be dangerous, you know," he explained once again reviving the lopsided grin on his face as his eyes sparked with mirth. "I am glad t-to have a cat as pet th-though. While I don't mind rats, I wouldn't want them on the loose in my room and Tiger usually scares them out at least, if one gets lost inside!" another chuckle would leave his lips and he was a little surprised with how easy this conversation had moved on to an actual conversation rather than the normal small talk that usually was bound to happen between two strangers. "Perhaps you can sit down if you care t-to talk some more?", he offered as he assumed standing must be exhausting while talking to someone who was seated on the ground.

── ❋ ──𝓐madea nodded as Alan spoke. While she herself had never considered being an Animagi, she knew it was something a lot of other people were interested in. Something about transforming herself just made her a little bit uncomfortable, not to mention the fact that she would never have good enough marks in Transfiguration to do that. "Yes," she agreed. "How about you, any interest in being an Animagus?" Even though she didn't want to, she certainly understood the appeal and would completely understand if Alan was interested.
As Alan explained that the cats at Hogwarts weren't allowed to hunt because some people had pet rats, Amadea shivered. She couldn't ever imagine owning a rat. Even before the incident in the passageways, Amadea didn't think of rats as warm, cuddly creatures that people could keep as pets. She thought of them as disgusting little rodents that ate your food. Luckily, minus Serena, none of her friends owned a rat so Amadea was able to stay far away from the creatures most of the time.
Alan then invited her to sit, so she plopped down in the grass next to him. He was right, standing for this long was becoming quite tiring and she was glad to give her legs a break. "I have an owl," she said, continuing the conversation. "I was never a huge fan of cats before all of my friends started getting them," she said. "They've definitely grown on me. But I love my owl. I wouldn't trade her for the world. And it's quite practical since my parents are Muggles so in the summer I can easily communicate with my friends still."

When she asked whether he had any interest in becoming a animagus he would halt for a moment before smiling slightly at her, but something about his smile seemed off. It was a honest, genuine smile but still, there was something about it someone might catch that told a whole other story; at least to someone who had a lot of experience at construing emotions and mimic of a person. "Not really", he would admit which was only half a lie. Even if he was interested in the ability, it would clash with his genetics so it was impossible for him to master the skill of transforming into a animal. He wondered what kind of animal he could have become if he weren't a metamorphmagus.
Alan would nod slightly, smiling about her story about her owl. It reminded him a little of George with Cadmus who could use the owl to stay in contact with him and all that. "What's her name?", he would ask her curiously and wondered if he could perhaps see her in the owlery at one point. The school owls usually flocked together and the private owls had their own area so that students would not accidentally use a private owl for their deliveries.
