Secret Blossom Ball
Thomas was naïve to believe the goal this evening was back on track. The excessive factors at play did not allow for a calculated approach, too many moving parts. The key to this evening was to adapt, react to the hand that was dealt. An attempt to anticipate the moves of so many unfamiliar parties was a moot point. There was no method to this madness. Thomas was forced to focus on his target, and the willing resources he had at his disposal. One fewer resource now, as Jack called out from a distance to retain his fellow fox.
There was a moment of hesitation before Tan announced he would take his leave. His remorseful expression was reinforced by a parting sentiment. Thomas did not show signs of anger, lacking any notable emotional reaction. The snake was well acquainted with the disappointment that comes with relying on others to achieve his ends. It was up to Thomas Lestrange to complete his goals, and if he was to fail, that result is squarely on him. Still, the loss of this flame wielder was disappointing. The boy has proven to be a capable asset, his departure would only decrease Thomas’ chance of success.
Tan’s torch would find the grasp of a reluctant hand. A torch in each hand now, the flames obscured a piercing blue-eyed stare at Tan. “At his beck and call I see. One day you’ll learn to think for yourself.” The words left his lips coldly, but the tone of voice dead, reflecting his indifference. His contribution this evening was not lost on Thomas, and his intentions would not be forgotten."Don't kill anybody, Please." Thomas issued a respectful nod before the boy turned away. Death of another was not a part of his agenda, at least not by his hand.
Ruka left his side in approach to the once ardent flames, now extinguished collectively by several wizards, leaving a trail of white smoke into the evening sky. Underneath the smoke, a motionless body lay next to Jack. Victor Moore now hanging by a thread, or perhaps he was no more, accentuated by a helpless sense of panic in the Slytherin fox. Thomas’ stomach churned as he processed this possibility Victor was beyond repair…that he may have been dead. So it goes.
The intentions of Thomas Lestrange were not highlighted by good morality, but to lose one’s life at this age was a result no one deserved. It was unlikely the fire starters intended the horror from their heedless actions, but repercussions have arrived. Alas, these students were not soldiers, trained to handle their emotions when under duress. Only children, feeding off their emotional reactions, fueled by this perpetual state of panic that came with bellicose insects, fire, and personal vendettas. Victor Moore may be the first death this evening, but was he the last?
Interior conflict arrived with the boy’s introspection. The once paramount mission suffocated beneath the gravity of a fatal situation. Was his plan to intervene on Vladimir’s behalf only going to stir the fire, furthering to risk of other casualties? Was the abating plan worth this risk? Thomas Lestrange was far too selfish to completely deviate from his agenda. However, a voice emerged from the deep recesses of his mind. One he would actively attempt to repress. No no no, the mission must go on.
Thomas eyed the position on the dance floor he had last seen Selim. He waved his pair of torches to light the path of hasty steps through the surrounding smoke. Additionally, to keep the buzzing creatures at a distance. His theory that these creatures would not attack without provocation proving true thus far. Thomas neared Selim with heavy breaths from his trot, feeding off the adrenaline provided from hostile tensions. Selim still near Vladimir’s bag, not far away was a boy (Flash) Thomas has seen once before. Not as charming this time around with blood gushing from his nose. The pain mirrored in the grimace from his counterpart (Willow), a girl he saw tagging around with the evening’s brash catalyst earlier this evening. Thomas eyed the pair of torches he held, offering one to the girl to help assist keeping the mosp at bay. The encroaching Sir Buzzington would be met by an active wave if he approached during his handoff. Was this…Thomas Lestrange…preforming an act of kindness? Of course not, he simply needed a free hand for what came next.
Thomas then approached his partner (Note this is following Vlad’s departure). If he did not already witness the brief altercation with their target, he would presume nothing had happened. Denoted by the AIT’s unwavering deadpan demeanor. Selim’s position was now compromised, Thomas opting to relinquish his date after a few words. “Wrong bag.” He clarified sternly, but this result was no fault of Faust, Thomas did not properly specify. “You’re compromised. Time to get out.” Lestrange’s blue eyes flickered to the pitch’s exit. “Hope you found something worthwhile.” With a nod of appreciation for his efforts, Thomas turned away. Though during his turn, he caught a familiar pair of green eyes (Opeila). The girl Vladimir arrived with this evening. Thomas paused, his lips parted to speak, but nothing came out. There was nothing he could say to redeem the following choice.
A steady pace led Thomas in the direction Vlad went. As he neared, there were some new individuals to note. Ah, the Gryffindors. Commonly known for their bravery, or as Thomas would see it, their desire to be relevant. The girl previously aflame made a miraculous recovery, storming Mary. Ivy?[actually Ana] Questions arose from the girl’s choice to involve herself in the chaos. It appeared Vlad has come to the defense of Marion, who Thomas actively distanced himself from to avoid being called out as another assailant.
As Vladimir retrieved his wand to defend Marion from this assault, Thomas found the older Ravenclaw’s side, swiftly declaring his stance to assist. “You’re a hot commodity this evening.” Thomas has seen no evidence to support this public theory of his villainy behavior. A tad cocky, yes, as made clear in the letter Opeila revealed earlier this week. But on this night, the victim, not the aggressor, constantly having to fend for himself. Perhaps the attackers knew something Thomas did not, knowledge that would alter this choice. But no denying there was more to Vladimir that met the eye. “Allow me to upset the order.”
His words were idle, likely to fall flat in garnering any interest from the boy. Especially when you consider the chaotically hostile environment, this was no time for conversation. To back up his words with actions, a necessary move to establish Thomas’ stance as another resource going forward. Then the most peculiar thing happened. Ivy…duplicated. She was in two places at once, one version in an aggressive rush to Marion, the other approaching Vlad’s opposite side, armed with a goblet. A befuddled and squinting Thomas paused, failing to realize Opeila’s emergence as another threat to Marion. Twins, perhaps? A doppelganger? Duplication? I don’t remember there being two at the family parties? A topic Thomas would be forced to digress from, as non-burned Ivy approached Vlad and she appeared confrontational.
“Ivy…sto--” Thomas tried verbal intervention initially, but it was clear Ivy was set on her assault. Additionally, it was far too late to threaten with his wand or words, springing the boy to step in front of Ivy, blocking her from Vlad. She lifted the goblet high, aiming for the Raven’s head. Thomas hurriedly transferred the lit torch to his right hand, freeing up his dominant left hand. With a lunge forward, he attempts to catch the goblet as Ivy brings it down to strike Vladimir. Thomas’ intention was to twist and turn it out of her grasp, and harmlessly toss it to the ground.

Adam was lying flat on his back, breathing hard, staring at the open sky above the Quidditch pitch. His head was spinning, still trying to wrap itself around the feat that he'd just accomplished. He'd been so sure that he was sending himself to his grave -- but miraculously, Adam was still alive. His slide move had worked, and his wand hadn't failed him. He'd killed his insectoid opponent at long last.
The creature was definitely dead. Adam's eyes had been closed the entire time he was under its body, but he'd heard the telltale sounds of its skin ripping open and known that his Severing Charm had struck true. He turned his head to look over at its crumpled form, unmoving on the grass next to him. He'd done that. Adam Harringtom, fourteen years old, had brought down a monster that had been threatening his classmates. It didn't feel quite as good as he had thought that it would, but there was no denying a small sense of pride. He'd failed to take down the giants at the Halloween Dance, and he'd never been able to put out the fires that plagued Hogwarts' social calendar. This time, though, he had come out on top. He'd combated the threat and saved at least a small part of the day. Adam was still alive; the creature was definitively not.
Bolstered by his accomplishment, the boy sat up straight -- and instantly regretted it. A wave of burning pain blackened the edges of his vision and threatened to knock him out, forcing him to brace himself against the grass and take a few deep breaths. Slowly, Adam looked down at his chest and found himself swallowing back vomit. His respectable, reliable dress robes were absolutely soaked in blood, and in the center of his chest were two horrible wounds. He brought a trembling hand to them and winced as his fingers made contact. They burned when he touched them, and the feeling lingered even after he pulled his now-bloody hand away. Adam turned his head slowly to look at the dead creature, his gaze catching on its stingers. Maybe he'd been less lucky than he'd thought....
He had no idea how he'd missed being stung. The adrenaline must have blocked out his senses, or something -- was that even how it worked? The more he thought about that crucial moment, the more that he recalled a sharp, quick pain in his torso. He'd thought that he'd just hit a rocky patch of terrain, with his eyes closed. Apparently, it was much worse. He had no idea what kind of damage those stingers were equipped to do, but the burning suddenly made a lot more sense. A small part of Adam wondered why it didn't feel worse. Getting impaled was no walk in the park, but he was still conscious, and that didn't feel right. The boy supposed that he had always been able to take a hit. He'd just never expected this type of attack.
Adam grit his teeth and clutched his wand tightly, pulling himself up from the ground with an immense amount of effort. The parts of his shirt that hadn't been torn away by the creature's stingers were sticking to his chest, red and shiny from the blood. His pants were still torn and now dirty from sliding across the ground. His face was probably pale and sweaty; in other words, Adam was certain that he looked like a wreck. Still, he had to keep going. As long as he was on his feet, Adam had a job to do. He'd officially saved the group of first-years, although it didn't seem like many of them had stuck around (thankfully). His mind was turned to Cecily now, remembering his efforts to find his friend before everything had gone south. She wasn't down on the pitch -- he was sure of that. He couldn't search the girls' changing rooms, which only left the stands. Adam raised his eyes to the seats above him and saw a distant scene of general commotion, much like the one down here. He swore, letting go of the hope that Cecily had avoided any conflict. She was so going to kill him if they both lived through this.
With one hand putting light pressure on his wound, Adam stumbled across the pitch towards one of the towers that lined the ring, once again determined to find Cecily before he was too late. He was distantly aware of fires burning across the pitch, of screaming and yelling and -- were those adult voices? That was strange. There were still creatures buzzing around, but Adam knew that he was in no shape to deal with another one of them alone. He had to find his friend. He could make another plan once they were together again.
Finally, Adam reached one of the staircases that led up into the stands. He took another deep, semi-ragged breath and mustered up strength to get up the steps in front of him. He could do this. He had to do this, if he was going to find Cecily and get out of here. Gritting his teeth, Adam reached one hand out for the railing and pulled himself up stair by stair. It was slow going, but he was still up, still willing to fight. It was going to take more than two deep, inflamed, horrible stab wounds to bring him down.
Although, maybe not very much more.

This was no place for children. Fires were raging, deadly mosps were running flying rampant around the mostly dark pitch, and incessant screaming was ringing around in the air. Although it wouldn't be obvious, thanks to the darkness, Thora's face paled even further as she surveyed the situation. Thankfully, the flaming girl [Anastasia] had been extinguished, along with Victor. It should've been relieving, but the realization did little to calm the Slytherin's fears as she continued to glance around. Smoke was spreading across the ground from someone [Katrina's] Fumos, there were fingers being poked into eyes, fists were flying, and basically, it was far from a situation where Thora could be optimistic.
Her scan of the scene did, however, alert her to the presence of figures about which she didn't know whether to be relieved or scared about. As she swiped a sleeve roughly across her face in an attempt to wipe away the awful burning in her eyes from the ash rising from the ground—and thus offering her eyes a quick respite from the spots still appearing from her gazing into the fire—Thora paused as she noticed something. Taller figures had arrived on the scene, but she couldn't tell exactly who they were, thanks to the darkness and chaos. There were countless possibilities of their identity, but she couldn't stop hope from welling up within her and warring with the overpowering doubt. They could be more enemies, just random students, or…professors? Could they—?
No. Thora couldn't allow herself—couldn't bring herself—to believe that help might have arrived on the scene. Besides, they'd probably all get detention for going behind the professors' backs and starting not just any ball, but something that had clearly been cancelled for a reason. Detention wasn't her biggest problem right now, and it was really a trivial thing, but ruining her so-far perfect track record would still be somewhat disappointing. Even if they were the professors, she could only hope that they would be able to help. Some had proved themselves perfectly capable, and the Slytherin might go so far to say that she trusted a couple. Still, could they really save all of the students?
As she continued to stare at the people who could potentially be their saviors—or something completely different—she couldn't help but drift off into a dream where they could be freed from this prison of their own making. If only this nightmare could just stop. But doubt finally prevailed, and Thora faced the dim possibility of such a thing happening. For now, all she could do was to do her part and help.
Her eyes met another fire, this one threatening to consume the entire place. While the voices in her head only got louder, questioning the identity of the person who would do such a thing, she couldn't let herself be the judge of that. There wasn't any more time for her to waste. But still, there was no clear indication of what her next action would be. She'd just about ditched both Bridget and Tyranni, and although Thora knew they were perfectly capable, it made her uneasy to leave them and end up doing nothing. She didn't necessarily mind working alone, but it was always good to have backup if it was needed.
Even more of a problem were the mosps, as people were getting hurt. Which meant—she could use Ferula again, right? The snek wouldn't hesitate to help someone out, but the hard truth was that there were simply too many people hurt, and too painful of a decision to select a student to help over another. They would be okay, right? However much she tried to convince herself that it would be so, though, she couldn't. She'd help the first injured person she came across, Thora finally decided. Was that fair? If she had to be realistic, she supposed she could only do so much.
People were leaving, and Thora was glad. This wasn't just an adventure where people could play the hero and save everyone. It wasn't a game of survival. This was a Hogwarts ball. Those leaving were perfectly wise to do so, and she hoped they would stay safe and make it back to the castle. She, however, would not be leaving, fixated on the fact that she had a job to do—and as for those who stayed alongside her, she could assume thought the same way.
And as tradition would have it, there was fire. A fire that had yet to be extinguished. "Extinguo." she incanted, forcing herself back to what she decided would destroy everything in its path if not stopped. Surprisingly, the spell attempt wasn't enough for the independent, scared, typically self-preserving little girl. Thora herself was honestly quite confused as her legs brought her several bounds closer to the flames, away from safety and towards utter chaos--and a revelation. The Gryffindor Quidditch Captain was standing nearby, and she couldn't help but wonder if he was the instigator of the fire. Green eyes which had been wide in fear narrowed as she faced the blaze.
Thora was no Gryffindor. She was far from brave. But she had a part to play, and play it she would.

As expected, the event had gone to hell. Not that she feared hell. Of the bedtime stories she was read, she always was drawn to those of Hel and her dominion over hel. And yet, her parents had decided to name her Tyranni instead, invoking the power of the god Tyr. Drawing on him earlier, she had come to the ball prepared for battle just as the war god would want. The time for war was over, at least war in an obvious manner. Instead she summoned her best understanding of Tyr's other matters, Law and Justice.
Thankful for Bridget freeing her from her bonds, she made note to search the girl out later and properly show her appreciation. For now, she had to focus on the ball. Glancing around the room, many of the pawns in this game had moved. Despite her current rage towards Marion, it was not the logical thing to attack her regardless of the fact that she deserved all the pain that would come to her. A silent prayer to Tyr was all she needed. It was her goal from the start to see what was in Victors bag. Arlo insisted that whatever its contents were, she did not understand what it contained, hinting that something powerful might be inside. All she wanted was one jar to take with her, (she assumed they were jars due to the clinking of glass when the bag was the victim of tug-o-war). As she panned the room, she could see the bag with another girl that was near Rafael.
As she headed towards the girl, it took a few moments before she realized that out on the dance floor, Victor was lying on the floor and one girl was doing what appeared to be questionable life-saving measures while many others were assaulting others including Marion. The bitch deserves all that comes to her. Satisfied with the many attacks Marion was facing, she continued fowards, at least until Thomas caught her eye. Getting cozy with Vlad eh? Not surprising. . You really couldn't trust the boy farther than you could throw him, but that did not stop her from developing a flicker of appreciation for him If he wouldn't trust her enough to become her ally, at least he could be a powerful pawn. He was determined in his goals and committed to success. He took matters into his own hands, much like she would have to do. From the position she was, Thomas would not see her approach silently, his back turned towards her. Before she could gain his attention, she he jumped in front of the Ravenclaw, switching the torch his held to his opposite hand and attempting to stop a girl he was not familiar with from smashing a goblet into the older Ravenclaws face. The boy looked godlike dressed in black. A modern day Loki. Regardless of if Thomas failed or succeeded in preventing the attack, Tyranni would approach him. If he faced away she would tap his shoulder to get him to face her, or if he was already facing a way where he could see her approach, she would stride up to him confidently. She would reach out her hands, grasping him firmly around the neck, rising a bit on her toes and pull him down into a kiss. If he accepted the kiss, when it ended she would whisper to him, Choose your sides wisely. Together we can be powerful allies Thomas.. If he resisted, she would end the kiss, forcing herself closer to him to whisper, Choose your sides wisely. You do not want to become my enemy. .

Opeila was yelling at her. She really couldn't care about it right now. Opeila wasn't her concern, and neither was whatever was happening with her date and Selim. All she cared about was getting her and Flash out of this alive. Right now? It wasn't looking too hot. Well, it was hot. There was fire absolutely everywhere. Destructive. All consuming. She experienced it first hand in the Hufflepuff common room. Nothing was safe. At least there wasn't a basement full of darkness to fall into this time. The smoke was beginning to become suffocating, luckily she was already close to the ground but with the amount that there was, she was still feeling the effects. The stinging in her throat and lungs, her eyes (which were already crying) becoming more and more irritated as time went on. It was making everything harder to see, to make a plan. Her worry about being separated from Flash started to creep up again.
You really had to pick your tragedies at Hogwarts. Common room full of fire? Or ball full of stinging insects? Willow had gotten both, and boy was she overjoyed to tell her parents about her first year at Hogwarts.
Her incendio hit one last time, finally taking out one crispy looking bee. It just left the other one. As she started to ready her wand for another incendio, Flash did the dumbest thing she could imagine. He attempted to tackle it. On instinct, she tried to stand up to stop him. She was already forgetful of the gaping holes in her leg and screamed out as she tried to move and put pressure on it. "Flash! No!" She collapsed back down. This was so stupid. She was stuck on the ground while her brother tackled the problem head on. Literally. Luckily. He missed. But now the wasp had turned on Flash rather than her. She was already injured. Why wouldn't he just let her take the brunt of it and he could focus on damaging it? She knew the answer. Flash would never let harm come to her. Suddenly, the idea that friendship was a death sentence flashed across her mind and she cringed. Maybe the bracelet-hating Slytherin wasn't too far off in his beliefs.
Once again, as she tried to ready her wand to join Flash in casting incendio, an unfamiliar boy ran up and offered her a torch. Confused, she took it in her hand. Looks like Ruka's abandonment sticks were coming in handy. Her eyes quickly shifted between her wand and the torch, and decided to just straight up throw the torch at the wasp. At best, it would be set on fire. At worst, it would extinguish before it got to it from being thrown and take the attention off of Flash. Either way, Flash needed to be back with her. She was vulnerable and useless, and she needed to have him near her to protect him as well as she could. "Flash! We need to stay together, come back!"
If Flash calls out for Professor Lian ||
Willow's attention was grabbed again by Flash's voice, calling out for Professor Lian. Willow tried to turn and look for the professors but it was too chaotic and she couldn't see much from her horrible vantage point of the floor. But, it seemed like the professor's were finally arriving to save them.

Through burning eyes and motion-blurred vision, Astrea stiffened even more than she was at the sound of piercing screams, the cries brimming with a concerned fear that only forced her to realise just how perilous their situation became. She spun on her heel in one smooth motion, a panorama of motion blur that showed off the frighteningly injured figures of her fellow students, bravely attempting to battle against the buzzing mosps and spreading flame. Astrea's carefully preserved composure was cracking, a spiderweb of microaggressions that only combined to create one great building frantic indescribable emotion that attacked her. There was nothing to focus entirely on and yet everything to divide the attention.
This was nothing like the balls or events she had a history of attending, full of snobbily passive-aggressive aristocratic purebloods clinking glasses of wine and politely dining together under suspended candlelight in all their finery. As boring as it ever seemed, this was all too-much action and near-death experiences and she would have traded everyone out in a heartbeat-
Her swirling mind was caught by Ana, suddenly drawing herself up- Astrea near rushed forward to grab at her injured friend but the other was too fast and suddenly there was a cry of "Flipendo!"-
She ran on autopilot, swiping an abandoned platter from the floor and dashing forward to defend her too-irresponsible daredevil of a- friend? acquaintance? She wasn't sure by this point.
No defensive spells, are you having a laugh?
She will become a defence.
Because screw all sense of self-preservation.Action: Astrea jumps in front of Ana to take Vlad's Flipendo/Attempts to deflect with a silver platter.
TLDR: Astrea's starting to freak out a bit, Ana has no caution and apparently Astrea doesn't either in the face of an ally's imminent danger.

Secret Blossom Ball
▁ ▂ ▄ ▅ ▆ ▇ █ ||~♟~|| ▇ ▆ ▅ ▄ ▂ ▁
It took a while for Selim to realize how labourously he was breathing. His eyes watered as the smoke around him grew thicker, almost thick enough to block his vision. The figures around him were hazy, and he could barely tell the difference between a stationary table and a moving human being. The roaring fire drowned out most voices, and he idly wondered if someone had yelled to him only for him to not hear.
He heard Vladimir Anthanatos speak though, but still found it hard to hear him over the loud flames that he had failed to notice were spreading.
"Picked the wrong side."
Then, the third-year dashed off, figure blurring a fading as he went deeper into the smoke. Selim watched him leave with stinging eyes, clinically wondering why the boy had assumed he was on any side.
The boy that had flirted with his opponent grabbed his arm, urging them to leave, Selim largely ignored him, partially because he had fallen into a fit of harsh coughing. After the fit ended, leaving him wheezing for breath, he glanced down at the bag below him. After a moment of hesitation, he zipped the bag up respectfully, and grabbed a nearby table cloth to drape over the bag.
No matter if he was on a mission against the boy, but personally, he'd prefer if no one else dug around the third-year's property. Whether or not the boy was 'evil', an invasion of privacy was an invasion of privacy, so he decided to try to keep the number of grubby hands digging through the bag at 1.
Standing up, Selim stumbled a bit to the side, the world tilting around him as the lack of oxygen got to him and gave him a bout of light-headedness. His lungs heaved to try and compensate, only inhaling more smoke in the process.
Another fit of coughing had him doubling over as pain raked his chest with hot black talons. He vaguely noted another person approaching, and his oxygen-deprived mind took a few moments to fill in the blanks of who the person was.
Thomas Lestrange stood before him for a few moments, seemingly unaffected by the thick smoke billowing around them... perhaps adrenaline had a hand in such a lack of visible struggle?
Selim straightened, one arm burying his mouth and nose in his elbow in an attempt to lessen the smog reaching his lungs. Lestrange spoke bluntly, seeming much more professional, stating that Selim had gone for the wrong bag, though Selim didn't linger on the fact.
Vaguely gesturing in some direction did not equate to Selim instinctively knowing which bag the other boy wanted to be rummaged around.
Then his 'companion' curtly stated that Selim was compromised... as if Selim didn't know that already. He narrowed his own amber eyes slightly, (mostly to try and shield them against the smoke) the orange and yellow fire around them seeming to make them glow ethereal. Then Lestrange said, bluntly, that he hoped he had found something worthwhile.
Selim nodded sharply, even as he began to feel another coughing fit coming, "Affirmative.". Idly, he noted that he could hear adult voices in the myriad of children screaming, the professors had arrived.
His companion darted off into the smog, following in Vladimir's footsteps. Selim decided not to think on that too hard, his brain was already pounding with a migraine.
Finally, he turned to the boy who had urged him to leave, mildly confused as to why the boy didn't leave by himself.
His musing was interrupted by Willow Anderson yelling loudly for a professor, causing him to tense. It was time to escape this living hell.
Falling into another coughing fit, Selim nodded again once he had recovered enough to do so. The problem was that he could barely tell which way led to the exit.
He dug through his smoke-addled mind for a memory of which direction he had come from, before grasping onto the vague recollection of the direction to the entrance of the Quidditch pit. Offhandedly, he gestured for the other boy who had stayed by his side to follow, before dashing off, trying desperately to avoid objects and humans alike as the smoke grew thicker. He noted that the boy had followed him wordlessly.
His vision was beginning to fade, he needed oxygen and-- 'Oh god I can't' breathe, can't breathe, need air!'--
Selim tripped over something he had missed seeing, landing on the ground in a kneeling position. Deep, painful-sounding coughs erupted once more from him, he felt so... tired, he just wanted to sleep, to ignore everything around him...
His thoughts were interrupted when the boy he was escaping with offered his hand, Selim looked at him in confusion, but took the boy's hand, getting pulled up back to his feet by their joint effort. Silently nodding in thanks, Selim continued running, the entrance coming into sight.
He just wanted to leave, but that possibility seemed strained, seeing as how his vision had tunneled.
If Selim and Percival escape-
Selim burst out of the entrance, and kept running, not caring if he ran into more professors or not. He just wanted to escape the smoke.
Once the air grew clearer, he slumped against the wall, basically collapsing to the ground. His breaths came out in rattling wheezes, and his head was pounding like a war drum. He needed to recover before continuing on to the dorms and did so by resting his forehead against his knees.
Haltingly, as if he just remembered to do so, Selim sheathed the knives he had been holding, there was no use for them now, he doubted he could even aim properly if a fight came up, given the state he was in.
After a few moments of silence, his breathing eased, but still sounded hoarse, most likely he had suffered from smoke inhalation... Logically he should go to the hospital ward to do so... but he didn't want to, he didn't want anyone else to see his scars... especially not strangers.
At the last thought, he paused, looking up at the boy who seemed to insist to stay glued to his side.
"... Who are you?"
Maybe if one squinted hard and turned their head slightly to the left, the would see confusion glinting in Selim's amber eyes....
Maybe.

Secret Blossom Ball
This is a Moderation Post
Victor MooreNote: Professors are free to enter the ball and take an action in the same round.
Note: A thin smokescreen has spread over the pitch, resulting in -1 accuracy to all (1 round).
The Bag and CompanyThe third year @Victor Moore hadn't moved since last round. He was severely burned and unconscious, prompting several students to rush to his aid. @Amara Dragamior, who had rushed off to dance in the middle of the chaos, now rushed back to offer CPR to the boy. Thankfully for the both of them (and because the moderator was feeling kind enough to make this a wisdom roll in the first place), she just barely recalled that she should check if the victim was breathing first. Victor was indeed breathing, so Amara (being the suddenly wise person that she is), concluded that performing CPR on him in this state would result in far more harm than good. In fact, she very well could have killed him.
Next up to the rescue was @Ruka Tân, who happened to own Burn Healing Paste produced by the one and only Elliot Price. He applied the goop all over Victor's burns, and while there was no immediate effects to tell if it was helping, it certainly wasn't hurting the boy. In fact - was he beginning to breathe easier? Maybe his chest wasn't so tight anymore?
@Dealla Prince stood at the ready, offering to help carry Victor to the Hospital Wing if needed. And then - lo and behold - the red-headed @Nico Shymane swooped down from the stands, offering to take Victor on her Tinderblast.
Amara Wisdom Roll: 15 (DC 15)
Help is Here!@Marion Davenport was distraught with grief. Her eyes focused on a boy that had decided to let her friends burn. A boy who was trying to destroy her life and that of her friends. A boy who had abandoned his own date to the ball in order to carry out his hare-brained schemes: @Rafael D'Spacito. He was aiding his date @Lydia Cooper, whom he had abandoned long ago, after Ruka had pointed out that she was in danger (see fourteenth mosp section). While he was preoccupied, Marion pointed her wand.
"Flipendo!"
Rafael was sent rocketing onto the dance floor and into @Selim Faust from the force of the spell, taking 200 damage. Selim would take half that, suffering 100 damage from the Gryffindor Captain's body being propelled into him. Nevertheless, Selim would be able to get up and (with @Percival Rainwood) make his escape from the Quidditch Pitch. The thief had successfully escaped, but that didn't mean someone wasn't going to pursue him.
@Anastasia Beckett witnessed Marion raising her wand at Rafael. Even though she was severely burned and had also been abandoned by Rafael, Ana decided she was going to tackle the blonde. @May Moonstar had been about to offer first aid in the form of alcohol on burns, but (thanks to the moderator for even making this a wisdom roll) she thought twice about this, realizing alcohol on a burn would be severely painful and debilitating. It would've done much more harm than good. So Ana got to her feet no better than before, and she launched herself at the girl.
@Vladimir Athanatos called out a warning to Marion, and aimed his own wand at Anastasia. He was unfortunately stuck dancing on the dance floor, unable to command his legs to move between Marion and Ana. His spell, meant to deter Anastasia from hitting Marion, hit @Astrea Soleil Neptune instead, who had chosen to use her action to place herself between Vlad and Anastasia. Astrea had been unable to find a silver platter to deflect the spell, and would take 150 damage as she was knocked to the ground.
Vladimir's warning had been enough, though, and Marion was able to successfully evade Anastasia on her own. However, another spell suddenly came at the girl and knocked her over. @Opeila Seilun had cast the knock-back jinx, dealing 150 damage to the blonde.
Back near Vlad, @Ivy Bellamy got the idea to attack Vlad with some goblets she was carrying. As she charged him, @Thomas Lestrange appeared at Vlad's side and aimed to stop her. He successfully wrangled the goblets from her hands, but the momentum was there and Ivy ended up slapping Vlad instead, dealing 75 damage.
Just as out-of-place as Thomas, a girl appeared at his side. @Tyranni Whitethorn was on a mission. She had a feeling about the exact way Thomas would tilt his head, and she planted herself in front of him at the exact right moment. Without warning, her lips met his in a sudden kiss. What could possibly be going through the Slytherin girl's mind? The next words she whispered were for her and Thomas' ears only.
Back at the bag in the flames, now that it was unguarded, @Bridget Collins took the opportunity to try and levitate it before it caught fire. She aimed her wand and successfully brought it out of the flames. It had not caught fire, also thanks to the efforts of @Jack Burnett pouring (holy) water all over it.

Bridget Wisdom Roll: 21@Selim Faust and @Percival Rainwood successfully leave the ball
The SwarmThree people entered the ball looking severely out of place. Not because of their outfits, but because they were adults. @Artemis Vernatis, @Kateri Karr and @Cypresse Lian had finally arrived at the bequest of @Piérre Marchonné ready and eager to help! Surely they wouldn't hand out detention when the chaos and trauma of the event was punishment enough... right?
Artemis Vernatis' first move was to offer the broom he had arrived by to @Vincent d'Arque and @Santario Martin. The latter of the two was quite hurt with a huge wound bleeding from her chest. Despite accepting the broom, Vincent tried to carry the girl. Even though she was light, he was only a first year without substantial strength in his arms, and he couldn't manage to carry her properly. So, without missing a beat, he decided the next best thing to do was to use the broom they had been given. He took Santario's camera bag strap and fashioned a sort of belt between himself and the pained girl (considering this is a second action, I bet you can imagine how secure this is). He mounted the broom with her and kicked off, trying to leave the ball with her (a third action). They made it about 36 feet into the air before it happened. Perhaps Vincent wasn't a good flier, or maybe it was a burst of wind, but somehow the broom tilted to an extreme angle. Santario began to slide off the broom, and given the strap between them, so did Vincent. Without warning, they were free falling. In no time at all, both of them landed back on the Pitch. They were lucky to only take 70 damage, but it still knocked Santario's head and landed her with a concussion. Santario's camera was not so lucky. It smashed on the ground between them. The school broom they had mounted was stuck high up in the air, unreachable.
Another bid for escape was in progress as well. @Dan Palmer mounted a school broom as well and was about to escape. Knowing he had room for another, he tried to grab up the unconscious @Aurelia Notrésvace and escape together. Unfortunately for him (for trying multiple actions), he only made it 10 feet in the air with her before the school broom jerked to a stop, bucking both of them off. It seemed like it did not want to give them a ride. Although only 10 feet in the air, they suffered max damage at 60 damage each.Victor Strength Roll: 8
Santario Concussion (50-) or Broken(51+): 50
The last bid for escape was not to exit the ball entirely, but to move to the stands. @Adam Harringtom felt like a hero for taking down a mosp (13), and he now chose to go on a search for a friend. The injured boy would stagger his way up a set of stairs to the stands.
Professor Vernatis had already moved his attention to Victor Moore by now. He didn't realize the severity of the boy's situation, offering the advice to get him back to the castle, before rushing off to fight a mosp attacking some students (see fourteenth mosp section).
@Kateri Karr - a rather new addition to the Hogwarts staff - arrived and described the situation to her blind colleague before aiming her wand at one of the fires.
"Extinguo!"
Her voice was joined by several students casting the same spell. All together, @Aaron Jones, @Atlas Reid, and @Thora Larkston aided in extinguishing the fire. Even though Atlas' spell fizzled and didn't work, her efforts were appreciated. Especially given the gaping hole in her chest indicating she had been stung not even moments before. In the same moment that the fire went out, Aaron was struck by a spell meant for Rafael. @May Moonstar had decided to take a second action, and her spell had clearly missed her target in favor of the boy next to him. The boy's legs were forced into a dance, keeping him firmly planted in that spot without control.
Kateri Wisdom Roll: 32 (to extinguo fire by ana)
Aaron Wisdom Roll: 17 (to extinguo fire by ana)
Atlas Wisdom Roll: 10 (to extinguo fire by ana)
Thora Wisdom Roll: 17 (to extinguo fire by ana)
May Accuracy Roll: 22 vs Aaron Evasion Roll: 10
DANCING - 1 ROUND@Cypresse Lian - the famously-blind professor - heard the word "fire" and was consumed with the urge to cast. Not to extinguish, but to transfigure. The wall of fire that had engulfed a table began to change and morph. It was like the fire itself was alive and twisting and turning to form a shape. As the professor's spell took hold, so did the form of a snake in the fire. The fire was soon gone, morphed into an enormous snake. It was nowhere near Basilisk size, but it was easily the size of the largest snake in the Muggle world: a 30-foot long, 550 pound (9.15m, 249.47kg) green anaconda. But this one was white.@Adam Harringtom successfully exits to the stands
As of this moment, there is no more fire affecting the pitch. It also seems like the smokescreen is beginning to clear slightly, soon to go away. The ball was still filled with lots of mosps and fights, though, so as @Asteria Knight entered the pitch, she was so shocked by the chaos that her hair turned pink!Cypresse Wisdom Roll: 40 (natural 20)
Tracking InformationSeventh mospEighth mosp@Crystal Jagger was a little preoccupied levitating a vase (see sixteenth mosp section) before noticing that @Lizzie Verdine was trying to get her attention. By the time she noticed, her action had been used up, but she was determined to help anyway! Both of the girls grabbed chairs from the tables they were near, and they charged at the red mosp they were engaged with. Crystal who had already used her action to levitate the vase unfortunately had terrible aim, and swung the chair wide. Lizzie who rolled a natural 1 also had terrible aim at the moment, and her chair swung wide as well. As the mosp flew up and avoided the attacks, the two girls ended up hitting each other with their chairs. Lizzie dealt 70 damage to Crystal, and Crystal dealt 40 damage to Lizzie. Meanwhile, the mosp above them dove down to try and attack the recently-dazed duo. Lizzie, despite having just been knocked by a chair, managed to evade the attack.Lizzie Accuracy Roll: 5 (natural 1) vs Mosp Evasion Roll: 16
Lizzie Accuracy Roll: 7 vs Crystal Evasion Roll: 6 (natural 1)
Crystal Accuracy Roll: 15 vs Lizzie Evasion Roll: 6 (natural 1)
Mosp Accuracy Roll: 2 (natural 1) vs Lizzie Evasion Roll: 22Ninth mospThe red mosp has been successfully struck by the Dancing-Feet Spell last round, but this spell only affected its tiny little legs and bum. Its wings still worked perfectly. So as @Atlas Reid and @Ethen Emrys ran away to help a friend in need, the mosp would follow at full speed. Its accuracy would surely be reduced by the jig its stingers were doing, but it would try to land on a target anyway. Luckily for Ethen, though, the mosp was indeed moving too much to land its stingers. The boy easily evaded the dancing mosp on his way to help others. However, the mosp only grew more agitated at the sight of Ethen attacking his fellow mosp (see fourteenth mosp section), so it followed after. It seemed its dancing spell had ended, so its next strike would probably be true.Who Will Mosp Target? 2 (ETHEN)
Mosp Accuracy Roll: 19 vs Ethen Evasion Roll: 25Eleventh mospAaron Jones had become preoccupied with putting out a fire, leaving his best friend @Lydia Cooper to watch his back and protect him from the mosps. She was a capable witch and he trusted her to take care of herself for the moment. And take care of herself, she did. The blue-haired part-Veela swung the music stand at the mosp chasing the duo, landing a solid hit and dealing 40 damage to the red beast. It tried to retaliate, but Lydia once again dodged the venomous stingers and turned her focus on the next mosp.Lydia Accuracy Roll: 10 v Mosp Evasion Roll: 5
Mosp Accuracy Roll: 14 vs Lydia Evasion Roll: 19Twelfth mospThe red mosp here on the dance floor was alone, its partner vanquished and burned on the ground. As it tried to figure out its next move, it took 80 damage from a blast of fire that came from @Flash Holmwood's wand. Although it was not set aflame, the mosp was beyond angry. It went to sting its attacker, but Flash dodged out of the way (again). @Willow Anderson tried to attack the mosp as well by throwing the torch she had recently acquired, but the torch missed the mosp and instead landed on the tiles of the dance floor.
"Professor Lian!" Flash called out, suddenly alerted to the professor's presence. Help had arrived, and it seemed to give the boy and his bleeding companion (Willow) some hope.Flash Accuracy Roll: 19 vs Mosp Evasion Roll: 18
Mosp Accuracy Roll: 10 vs Flash Evasion Roll: 18
Willow Accuracy Roll: 15 vs Mosp Evasion Roll: 22Fourteenth mospThis mosp was growing bored of the boy it was attacking. The floral smell of @Dale Kurt had faded. When a new girl @Katrina Walker approached waving some flowers, it certainly caught the mosp's attention. Rather than follow the flowers she had thrown, though, the mosp decided to attack the girl herself. Despite flying towards her quickly, the mosp's twin stingers only found air and Katrina was able to dodge the attack. This would not sit well with the mosp, who turned in the air, preparing for another attack. Is Mosp Distracted? 2 (NO)
Mosp Accuracy Roll: 14 vs Katrina Evasion Roll: 23Fifteenth mosp PhilipeThis red mosp came from the stage area, chasing after Aaron Jones and Lydia Cooper. It was the blue-haired girl that its attention stayed on, though, seeing as the boy ran ahead to deal with a fire that the mosp wanted nothing to do with. Before it could come close to the girl, though, it was intercepted by several boys rushing to her aid.
@Rafael D'Spacito came first, punching the mosp right in its face. He dealt 225 damage to the mosp, sending it reeling back. Next came a boy @Ethen Emrys, who had grabbed a chair from a nearby table and swung it at the mosp. He dealt another 40 damage, leaving the mosp near death. A spell that would've finished it came from the first adult to arrive at the ball, Professor @Artemis Vernatis. However, the mosp's limp wing led to it dropping from the sky, meaning the spell whizzed past an empty space where the creature had been.
The mosp regained its balance closer to the ground, and turned its attention on the boy closest to it now. It went after Ethen, but the first year dodged out of the way in time.Rafael Accuracy Roll: 9 vs Mosp Evasion Roll: 8
Artemis Accuracy Roll: 14 vs Mosp Evasion Roll: 15
Ethen Accuracy Roll: 18 vs Mosp Evasion Roll: 11
Mosp 14 Target? 3 (ETHEN)
Mosp Accuracy Roll: 8 vs Ethen Evasion Roll: 17Sixteenth mospPhilipe was still struggling to get free from @Charlie Woodward. The mosp used its action to wrangle its twin stingers and finally find purchase in the boy's leg, causing Charlie to recoil as he took a whopping 65 damage and a deposit of venom into his body. It was not a deep wound, but it was enough to make holding onto Philipe more of a challenge. So, as Charlie struggled to hold on, Philipe was finally able to escape. The mosp shook free of the sweater/undershirt combo that had been draped over it like a net, allowing it to fall to the pitch below as the mosp hovered nearby.
Meanwhile, @Evelynn Decipio had agreed to direct the broom. Although she had managed to get them farther from the pitch, they weren't quite out of range thanks to the struggle of Philipe and Charlie. Being on the same broom, it seemed if they wanted to escape, they would need to work and attempt to leave together.Philipe Accuracy Roll: 15 vs Charlie Evasion Roll: 14
Charlie Strength Roll: 18 vs Philipe Strength Roll: 19Twenty-first mosp@Crystal Jagger used her action to set the vase of flowers on a table far from everyone else. This mosp maintained its peaceful quality, completely distracted by the vase of flowers and unbothered by what was happening at the rest of the ball. It seemed Crystal had kept this mosp from entering the fray (so far).Crystal Wisdom Roll: 12Twenty-third mospThis mosp chased after @Percival Gray as he ran towards the food tables on one side of the pitch. It dodged a table leg that was thrown by @Wyatt Starkey, and it dodged the vase that was thrown by Percival himself. Angered by the destruction of the flowers, and the theft of them in the first place, the mosp continued to attack the boy in front of it. This time, the mosp managed to bury its twin stingers into the boy's chest, depositing another bout of venom with a much deeper wound than the one on his arm. As the mosp withdrew, it left a bloody wound and pain. Lots of pain.
In retaliation for his friend being attacked, Wyatt decided to try to torture the mosp with a spell not meant for living beings. He pointed his wand at the mosp and called out, "Reparo!" Unfortunately for him (as a result of being a second action), the spell rebounded and knocked him onto his butt. Had his attempt to torture the poor creature been cast properly, he probably would've done nothing more than give it a scar. The mending charm certainly wasn't meant to be used offensively. Wyatt didn't seem to learn his lesson though (attempting a third action), and he aimed his wand again. "Tarantallegra!" And again, his spell rebounded, perhaps from a lack of enunciation and concentration. The boy began to dance, losing control of his legs as they went about tapping to an inaudible beat.Percival Accuracy Roll: 10 vs Mosp Evasion Roll: 14
Wyatt Accuracy Roll: 12 vs Mosp Evasion Roll: 21
Mosp Accuracy Roll: 21 vs Percival Evasion Roll: 19
Wyatt Second Action? 2 (REBOUND)
Wyatt Third Action? 2 (REBOUND) | 3 Rounds DancingThis mosp was flying high above the ball, not interested in being victim to the smokescreen down below. However, a girl (@River Dewlight) suddenly appeared above the smokescreen, having just mounted a broom (from the stash or from @Janet Jackson) and kicked off. Attracted by her sudden appearance and agitated by the smoke below, the mosp flailed its proboscis and suddenly flew straight at her with its stingers outstretched. It found purchase, digging the weapons into her arm and dealing 134 damage to the second year.Mosp Accuracy Roll: 18 vs River Evasion Roll: 7

Secret Blossom Ball
Percival couldn't breathe there was so much smoke in the air.
Panic rose to his chest as he wondered what to do. He was glad that the other boy he had stayed with had decided to take action.
The boy ended up following after Selim as quickly as possible the pair ran for what seemed forever.
Even as he ran he could still feel the claustrophobic feeling the smoke had caused.
The air slowly turned to a cooler temperature showing that the pair had made it.
Tears streaked down his face as he realized he could have died. They could have died.
Percival joined the other against the wall glad to feel the cold stone against his hot face.
The boy was sweating, and his shirt was probably ruined now.
He was just glad they were away from the fire. The feeling of ghost fire danced across his face.
Percival stared forward blankly, not really taking in anything. The boy was lost in his own thoughts.
The boy glanced towards Selim as he heard the recognizable sound of knives being sheathed. He had almost forgotten his dormmate tried to stab someone.
Percival's breath rattled as it caught in his throat as the other finally spoke.
"My name's Percival. Percival Rainwood." he said his throat scratchy and raw.
He watched the other nod at his explanation, and he could guess by the curious look the other still had questions.
The boy wanted to tell the other that they were dormmates, and that they just haven't interacted with one another much.
"We need to go." he rattled out.
Percival grabbed the boy's right hand, and pulled him into a standing position.
The two continued running back towards their dorm.

Her ankle was killing her.
Ariana was temporarily distracted by the arrival of an acquaintance of hers, May Moonstar.
“Are you guys alright? Y~you need my help?”
Although it was clear that the hufflepuff was only trying to help, Ariana was feeling unfortunately bad tempered at this point, and she swung round, gritting her teeth in pain as she wobbled involuntarily on her bruised ankle.“N-Not now May!” She managed to get out through her teeth, before glancing back down to her foot. “I~is Ari alright? Sh-should I call someone else?” Ariana had barely noticed that she had taken a hold on Janet's arm to steady herself. Gathering her thoughts together and pushing the pain out of the way, she stood upright, “you want to rest or what? Do you know the Extinguishing spell?” What? How was that going to help? Janet had already mistakenly blinded them by taking that action. “No I don't know it, and in any case I bloody well can't get over to the flames, I don't plan to either, unless you want to be roasted to death!” She voiced the last part bitterly. In truth, she badly wanted to help, the screams were agonizing to listen to. Although now that her outburst was over, she felt ashamed for the way she had snapped at her friend. “I- I'm sorry May, I didn't mean too, I'm just annoyed that's all. I won't rest, no time for that- I'm going to try and fly out of here, unless-” She paused to look at May for a second, “how are you getting away from the ball?” She questioned.
