CICTF Piranha vs. Catfish

Reyna was terrified for her life. Entering the next area, and brushing past bushes, she encountered, the most strange and terrifying animal ever. A jaguar. It had fierce teeth, and fast moving claws. Not to mention it was huge. Reyna stood no chance against it.
Shit. She barely managed to dodge its claws as it swiped past her pulling off chunks of her pants. She sighed in relief before looking down at her clothes and groaning. Ripped jeans were the new style anyway.
But the jaguar was not done yet. It came for round two barring its teeth and clawing closer to her. She needed to get out.
Reyna managed to dart behind another girl, just barely, who also looked to be facing the same problem and they sprinted back to where they had been before. She just hoped the others would be okay.
When Reyna had signed up for Capture the Flag she had expected s simple game of fun and a little bit of adrenaline. Not this. This was life or death. She had almost been killed multiple times. Now she was badly injured.
As she finally came to a stop, the immense pain hit her. She breathed heavily unable to comprehend what had just happened. Take a deep breath. She would be okay. After this game she would need to see a nurse. But for now she was going to keep playing because whatever happened, there was one thing Reyna knew. To not give up.

He had decided to split the difference, staying for a little bit to try to help. Though admittedly he did not quite know how to do that. "Do snakes handle being tugged on well? Or oh! Isn't there a spell for vanishing snakes? Or does that only work on conjured ones I forget." Getting nowhere he couldn't help but look around, seeing others moving further ahead. He was slightly torn as he didn't want to be a jerk but also it was a game. He doubted the anaconda would kill his teammate, or the professor would stop it before it got that far.

Grimacing, he said "Sorry, but...I need to keep moving. You've got this covered yeah?" Breathing out a big breath, he began to move forward with determination, figuring if he was going to get attacked, it was likely there would be very little warning. Better to keep moving, then constantly scanning or looking around, trying to figure out where the danger was. Focus on getting through these zones. He pulled his wand out just in case, at least his magic could give him an advantage against the wildlife. Unless this was some sort of magic resistant playing field or the animals were somehow resistant.

It took Della far too long to realize that their group of six had dwindled to two. The eeriness of that lagoon was still lingering on her mind, and it seemed so deathly quiet in the jungle, she only heard the sounds of twigs crunching under their feet. What was the other team planning? She gripped her wand tightly and turned back for a reassuring glance at Rose and Aly—if the older more experienced girls looked calm, she’d stay calm.

But there was only Rose beside her. The redhead seemed calm. Della hadn’t remembered this as being part of their plan. As she continued forward, looking ahead, she asked Rose in a small voice, “Do you think everyone else is okay?”

Della couldn’t shake the feeling that they were being hunted. The hairs on her neck had been standing up for the last fifteen minutes. She shook her head, trying to remember they were playing a game. Surely the school wouldn’t let them play aorund in a dangerous forest. This wasn’t Hogwarts after all.

It was probably just the other team lurking around them. The two Gryffindors had to be careful, they were probably almost right on top of the flag.

Quentin was still considering the quicksand. It couldn’t be that hard to make some in a jungle of all places. But before he could really get to work, he heard the sound of a woman’s voice. It sounded a little like Linda’s, but it also sounded like what he imagined his mother’s voice would sound like. There was also something else in there. It was intriguing. He found that his feet were moving before he could tell them, too. The voice was like a whisper but also like a scream. What was it saying to him? Was it Linda? Did she need help?

There was an unshakeable feeling Quentin had that if he found the source of voice, all of his dreams would come true and Linda and him would get married and he would have a conversation with his mother. Yes, he needed to find the source.

He was almost to the bank of the glowing water. The voice was getting louder and louder—his ear drums were pounding. Before he put his foot in the water, another voice found it’s way into the fray. Axel was here. Axel was here. Axel was the only person here.

Quentin covered his ears with his hands; he almost completely forgot the voice. It felt like waking up from a bad dream. What had just happened?

━━ summary, this thread is happening on JUNE 26TH, 2026 in the MORNING with THE CATFISH CREW / wc: 206.

ZONE TWO | Gosh, what was with these insane exotic places and these damn large snakes that were over the place? This couldn't have been at all what people from Hogwarts would expect and he was absolutely certain that the Parselmouths were having a damn field day with the varieties all aiming for them to destroy. That wouldn't bother Harlan, he'd just kick them out of the way if need be and did so as well. " What the hell! " This was such a crazy little game of capture the flag and Harlan was ready to be done with this whole affair already and get to the exciting parts like the ziplining and whatever the hell else they had in store.

Eyes went to his team and then to those on the other with a slight snarl in how they had all been so much older than him. Why were the teams like this anyway? Regardless, he was ready to try his best to grab that flag and bring it back to their base. He had another win to secure at the international schools and bringing that back with so many Gryffindors on the team would feel like a real win for the lion house.

As the brunette made her way through the dense jungle—stick still in hand, flicking the snakes out of her way with it (fortunately for Harlan, she found another use for it other than just stabbing it in his backside)—Rome was staring to think this place had favourites for this was like a walk in the park for her. She wasn't too sure how the rest of her team was doing—the few that were left in the dust due to unfortunate luck—but, herself, Harlan, and the other two teammates who frolicked around them seemed just fine.

A drop of water landed on the caramel skin of her arm, reminding her to check if she had enough water. Rome reached inside the tote bag that she carried on her shoulder, only for her fingers to be met with three plastic water bottles—some which she had successfully confiscated from her teammates. She almost let out a loud snort. Her success rate at trickery was absolutely ridiculous at this point. Even to her.

She pulled one of the water bottles out of the bag and downed it. If her calculations were correct—which she was sure they were—she needed all the energy she could muster for this next part.

This event is part of the Castelobruxo International Capture the Flag event
26TH OF JUNE, 2026 IN THE JUNGLE ARENA
MODERATION — ROUND THREE.
The unpredictable weather of the Amazonas had the arena in its chokehold, albeit mild this round. While mist, two consecutive heatwaves, and a lone jaguar crept over the zones, only @Maximilien de Fostoncy suffered the consequences of the heatwave. Someone should have reminded him to bring water.

Surrounded by mist by the piranha base, @Axel Brooks and @Quentin Gagné could not have cared less, choosing instead to spend their time bantering with each other while barely able to see each other's faces. While Quentin's talents seemed to fall short when it came to building traps, at least his humor remained intact. Axel's successful joke from last round, however, appeared to have been nothing more than a fluke.

Meanwhile, @Romélie de Brissac and @Harlan Montgomery narrowly avoided the worst of their fate by moving out of zone two, spells striking behind their heels as they fled. Had they stayed, the pair would not only have had to endure the scorching heat that had already gotten the better of Maximilien, but also face @Linda Ramirez potent Petrificus Totalus aimed at the Beauxbatons student. Instead, the spell struck a tree. For whatever it was worth, the tree had never been more still. @Maximilien de Fostoncy attempted the same spell against Harlan, but the execution was disastrous. The spellwork was beneath all criticism, perhaps a consequence of the delirium brought on by the heatwave. Santiago almost expected the spell to turn back on him — a fitting end for such a sloppy attempt — but somehow, against all odds, it held true. Perhaps perfectionism had its merits after all. The seventh-year had narrowly avoided embarrassing himself further, though his attempt still came too late, with Harlan already having moved out of range.

Santiago did not have time to dwell on their failures before the action in the rest of Zone 2 demanded his attention. The bleeding wound on @Aly Salinger's thigh did nothing to stop her from casting another — perhaps the spell of the round — Petrificus Totalus at @Vale Ashwood, who had taken it upon herself to search for the flag. A task that might have been more or less successful, had @Louca Dufort not acted like a knight in shining armor, sprinting between the spell and Vale to take the hit himself.

It was not quite as heroic as it sounded, however, when he too collapsed like a sack of potatoes. His sudden act of heroism did sabotage @Reyna Evergreen's attempt to petrify him as well, though the job had already been finished before she had the chance. With the distraction behind her, @Vale Ashwood disappeared between the trees to continue the flag search, eventually concluding that the flag was not in Zone 2.

Recovered from the restraints of the anaconda and yet again dodging the lurking Jaguar, @Pax Zhang wasted no time returning to the fray, coming in hot. Santiago had been too preoccupied watching @Marshal Mozor fail to lighten the mood among his, frankly, useless teammates — who seemed content to simply stand by — to pay much attention to the movements coming from zone three. The joke might not have been entirely bad, for all he knew, since @Ethan Smith and @Gellert Schroeder showed no hint of purpose this round.

When he finally glanced back toward the infiltrating Piranhas, he found @Rose Moon already sprawled in the mud of the trench, seemingly in pain, with Pax by her side. The Headmaster paused, trying to piece together what had happened. Perhaps she had simply tripped over a root, he mused with a shrug, feeling only a small amount of sympathy for her unfortunate predicament. That was the way of the jungle.

HOW TO PLAY

The game ends when either team successfully retrieved the other teams flag to their base. Team Piranah will be starting the game in Zone 1 and Team Catfish will be in Zone 4 at the opposite end of the arena. There will be at most 10 rounds, each requiring a post of 200+ words. Please make sure you include your character's stats in your post.

During the first round only, each team must state which zone their flag is hidden in to the thread moderator. You may chose to hide the flag in any of the 4 zones. The flag remains in that zone unless successfully discovered or moved through gameplay mechanics. Do not reveal in game where the flag is located.

Each round, everyone in the team must make at least one action from the Capture the Flag actions list, unless they are unable to act due to a status effect or restriction. These actions are zone dependent. The team scores points by making successful flag actions or interceptive actions towards a flag carrier. Please note that players may only move between adjacent zones and cannot skip zones while travelling.

At the conclusion of each round, the zone state map will be updated to reflect all player locations. Players may only target characters who are in the same zone as them at the end of the previous round. If a target moves out of the zone during the following movement phase, the action automatically fails, with the exception of Flag Intercept and non-magical support actions that include a chase mechanic. When performing these actions, the player automatically follows the target into the destination zone as part of the interaction.

If the action fails while chasing, the pursuing player is left behind in the original zone while the target successfully gains distance.

Rules regarding roll resolution, action priority, and other game mechanics can be found HERE.

At least one member of the team must owl the entire teams' action list to @Santiago Peralta before the posting deadline.

Maxi stopped and gasped as he brushed a bead of sweat off his forehead. The ruthless heatwaves of the rainforest were really intimidating as they mysteriously chanted, causing him to uncontrollably sweat and feel dizzy. Water. If only he had brought water with him... Maxi helplessly fanned himself with both his hands, but the heat wasn't eased at all. He sighed. He had to bear with this from now on, probably. Should have done more research and been more prepared.

The Piranhas opted for the same spell, and Maxi was no exception. Confident in his spell work, he flickered his black walnut wand, and mumbled "Petrificus Totalus." Oh, gosh. Amazed, he looked at the tip of his wand, where nothing particular - sorry, he should have said nothing disastrous - happened. It was way beyond his usual magical skills - he could perform a split spell on a fast moving broom! - and Maxi did not know what was on him. Thank goodness his usual practice helped him from further embarrassment, like backfiring and binding his very own self. The cursed heatwaves. Yes, that must be it. Not to mention that his intended target somehow disappeared out of his sight. Never mind that, he guessed. The spell wasn't going to work well, anyway.

Still under the consequences of the heat, Maxi huffed, feeling exceptionally edgy. Stuck in zone 2, Gellert was nowhere in sight. Looked like he was never going to meet up with his boyfriend before the game ended. Ugh.

Interacting with @Vale Ashwood and @Louca Dufort
The slash on Aly's thigh kept seeping red iron, the heel of her palm now wet with it as well, as action continued on around her. The second zone had become uncharacteristically crowded, many faces both familiar and unknown now visible in between the leafy greenery and towering trees; content where she was for the moment, Aly knew that her importance now lay in being one of the eldest members of her team. Someone who could act in a wonderful support role, even if she still didn't one hundred percent understand the rules of this game yet.

Black hair and taunting laughter was easy enough to pinpoint among the jungle, and Aly zeroed in on a potential target from the other team: a fifth-year Slytherin, who seemed familiar enough, though Aly wasn't sure if they had ever really spoken. One of the broom racers, she was quite sure. The girl was an enemy of Peri and Dee's on the track, and an enemy of Aly's own now. She raised her wand almost instinctively, a familiar spell falling from her lips just as she had heard it cast around her in the moments before: "Petrificus Totalus!" And yet, in the moment before her beautifully cast body-bind was to hit the opposing girl, a boy appeared out of nowhere to take the hit for her - unfamiliar, pale-skinned with brown hair. At least he was affected by the spell; that was one fewer opponent to worry about, at least for now.

Aly tucked a stray curl behind her ear, turning to scan the jungle around her. Righto. What next?

Capture the Flag
Gellert is frozen, unable to smile after his failure once more to set a trap. It is a travesty. It is a disappointment. Was there any other choice but one of silent revenge He would do better this time. There was no other choice. He lost his timidity and playfully vowed to help his team win.

The catfish will win. The catfish will win. Gellert repeated this as a mantra. It was his fault and he did not want to jinx it any longer. There was nothing worth more than winning as a team. He felt that as a quidditch player, and now he would feel it here.

He was of course speaking in hyperbole as he tended to do. This was solely a fun game of capture the flag, not a war. Yet, it was always fun to pretend the stakes were higher than they actually were. After all, what’s the fun in activities without permanent consequences.

Gellert’s eyes sharpened glancing around the field. He could feel it, like tension under great stress. Something was about to pop and he had to be ready for it.

Gellert looked all around him, tensing for the right moment.
