Now hear me out, sometimes days could simply... not be all that fun. You feel miserable and sometimes life was just plain boring. Other days, it would oddly look like you got stuck in the same simulation playing over and over again. Like some cassette recorder from the 80s that got stuck at 2 minutes and 33 seconds upon which you got to unsheathe your favourite coloured pencil and started rewinding just to hear the same tune for a few moments. Life was very much the same, even for kids. And for sure for those kids that got to spend time in a boarding school. It was like you were never allowed to leave the house. Granted, it was a pretty big house. But that hardly mattered if you had explored most of it come new year.

Eldridge was looking kind of dull as he pricked the last few beans from his plate. Breakfast was never the ideal time for him. But when you were counting the beans that stuck on your plate, you just knew it was time to get a change of plans going. School was almost done, and then things could go from boring to worse. His family. He could already hear his sisters nagging him about either make up, ex-boyfriends or science. Whichever of the two he'd have to face over the holidays, he still preferred counting beans over them.

Looking around, he just saw the same old faces he had grown used to over the year. People he knew their names off, although he had never spoken a word towards them. He was rather good at picking up that kind of information on his own without the pesky need to enter social interaction every time. Besides, there were more than a few characters around the castle he had no intention on ever talking to. Snobs, brutes or clowns alike.

His eyes locking on a girl on another table, he furrowed his brow. She was new. Or so he thought. No, he had no real clue if he had seen her before. Though he guessed she must have been of his year. Maybe even class? There was a good possibility for that. After all, he was rather prone to fall asleep only a few minutes in to any subject. Professors simply had a knack for not making anything fun. Or perhaps they thought he would love their slimy smiles and "positive attitudes". He had no time for that. Instead, he was rather interested in figuring out who miss stranger was across from him. Not taking any time to waste, Ed got up his feet and looked around. Well, there really was no point in why he shouldn't... with two big steps he headed up the bench and onto the table. Quickly he traversed whatever number of tables he had to in one straight line for the girl. It seemed it was time to make a new friend today. As he reached the Hufflepuff table, he took halt on top of the piece of furniture. He could feel the glare of some third year nearby stinging in the back of his head.

"Morning!" he exclaimed from above. "Eldridge Seath, at your service." He held out a hand for her to shake, but quickly realised that was no way to go about things if he was meant to keep standing on top of Hufflepuff's dinner. "Hmm, sorry 'bout that'" He said with a pitiful smile. Jumping down, he shoved some other first year further down the bench and took a seat next to the one he was speaking to. "I just realised I have no clue who you are, lassie." He narrowed his eyes and smirked. "So I figured, since I was bored out of me mind anyway... why not go say hello?"

In the Great Hall many students were enjoying a diverse breakfast. Fyriel sat at the Hufflepuff table eating some ham and cheese sandwiches while reading one of her favorite fairytale books. After having finished two of these delicious sandwiches she sipped from her glass of orange juice and flipped to the next page. Reading at breakfast wasn’t so easy with all the clamor of students chatting about, cutlery hitting plates and glasses touching glasses. At other times Fyriel wouldn’t be able to focus on her novel but when she hadn’t been awake for too long and was still halfway out of dream world, she was just about hazy enough to be able to block out most noises and focus on only one or two things maximum. At this moment those things were eating and reading.

The young Huffle felt at ease today, she had no particular plans except go to her classes and finish several assignments in her dorm. If she had time in between classes she would go to the next classroom early and sit outside reading a book or practice her drawing skills. Fyriel sat at the table dreaming about lunchtime already when something, or rather someone, ripped her out of it. Out of nowhere a voice echoed from above Fyriel’s head,” Morning! Eldridge Seath, at your service.” A boy had hoisted himself on top of the Hufflepuff table and introduced himself to her as if it was just any normal thing to do. Fyriel’s mouth dropped open a little as she speechlessly gazed up at the boy. He had held out his hand for her to shake but before she could make a move he apologized, jumped down and took a seat shoving a clueless Huffle out of the way in the progress. He continued to talk to Fyriel and with a smirk he said, “I just realized I have no clue who you are, lassie. So I figured since I was bored out of me mind anyway… why not go say hello?” With that said the boy looked at Fyriel clearly expecting a response. It took Fyriel another ten to fifteen seconds to let sink in what just happened but then quickly answered the boy with a questioning tone in her voice, “Uh, hi… Nice to meet you Eldridge. I’m Fyriel Starlingword. That’s nice of you to come introduce yourself and I must say you gave quite the impression there.” She looked at him with a playful grin on her face and asked him,” Which house are you in?” She took another sip of her glass which emptied it. Therefore, she grabbed one of the glass pouring jugs nearby and filled it up again. With the jug in her hand she gestured toward Eldridge to offer him some orange juice too.

Fyriel was used to being somewhat incognito at the Hufflepuff table as she hadn’t officially met many of her fellow housemates. At the moment her long ink black hair fell loosely on her shoulders, she was planning on brushing and straightening it out after breakfast but considering her sudden new acquaintance with Eldridge, she regretted not doing it before coming to the Great Hall. Fyriel swept some of the locks of hair that dangled in front of her face behind her ears to try and look a bit more decent. Her eyes were a tiny bit puffy from having a short night’s rest, which was her own fault for staying up reading way too late, and her usually pale face had blushed cheeks. When the young lady usually met new people she was nervous and shy most of the time but some reason this time she felt more comfortable than ever. Perhaps it was because the boy decided to introduce himself for no particular reason which had taken off some pressure or perhaps his memorable first impression had pushed her out of her comfort zone. For some unexplainable reason she felt a connection with this well-spoken boy and she felt like he wouldn’t judge her sarcasm and friendly banter. She was yet to figure out however, having just met him.

Ed furrowed his brow at the girl. "Ferielle? Is that French or something?" His own Scottish accent would be butchering her name but if he spoke any form of proper English he'd have got her name wrong on his first try anyway. Wondering about her own accent, he pondered a bit as he stared around at the table. There were several badgers giving him odd looks and the girl he shoved aside certainly wasn't happy to see him. He couldn't help but wink at her and offer an apologetic shrug.

Turning back to Fyriel however he got all serious. "So, Hufflepuff ey? That seems nice. At least that's what I've been told." He shot a quick glance towards the Professor table. "Though your Head of House is nuts, no offence." He twirled his index around next to his temple to indicate the old man's fading mental capacity. He had seen the man dance and sing not too long ago in this very same hall. While Ed may have wanted to join in, he hadn't as he was no fool. "Who on earth jumps on tables??" He questioned out loud as he aggressively shook his head.

Not really finding a fork left on the table he decided to just pick up a piece of bread and slap some bacon on there. He was starving for some extra meat. He had already eating all his portions over at the Slytherin table. "Hmph, mwham abmwoum mou?" He asked. Realising he wasn't making any sensible words leave his full mouth, he bit and swallowed first before continuing. "Sorry, what about you? Got any plans today? What are you looking for in the castle?" There was always something. Fame, knowledge, friends, adventure and so on. So he wondered what kind of girl he had just met. Getting his hair in place, he shot her a quick smile before listening intently.

Eldridge was clearly only interested in a bacon sandwich so Fyriel put the jug of orange juice down and sipped from her glass. "Well, I've never asked my parents about it but perhaps it is. Although we're not French, we're from England.", she added with a frown. Fyriel's thoughts hovered to her home and family members. I wonder how Liv is doing. And the baby mooncalves, well they won't be babies anymore... When Eldridge made a remark about Hufflepuff's head of house being nuts and continued to joke about his own behaviour, Fyriel returned from her daydream and laughed. "Well, it seems you two would get along just fine.", she winked at the boy.

Assuming that this conversation wouldn't end soon the young Huffle girl closed her book and put it away to show interest in answering Eldridge's questions: "Um, I didn't have anything planned in particular today besides going to my classes." The girl realised that she sounded extremely boring and she didn't want to come across as a mundane study nerd. Fyriel wondered whether to tell Eldridge about her secret hobby but she figured it couldn't do any harm thus she went out on a limb and confessed: "Actually I have this hobby... I like finding places where barely anyone goes. Like abandoned places or hidden spots. Do you happen to know any cool places around here? Maybe even forbidden ones?" As Fyriel said the last sentence she leaned over just an inch closer to Eldridge, raising her brow a tad and whispered it to him, to not be overheard by other Hufflepuff students. Fyriel glanced towards her neighbours at the breakfast table and after feeling reassured no one had heard her she looked back at the boy with an eager glint in her birhgt purple eyes. The young lady felt enthusiastic and sligthly nervous at the same time. She was excited to know if the boy had an adventurous soul like hers but anxious she have come across as a total weirdo to him. Which eleven year old girl likes visiting abandoned places? Her appearance gave a calm yet passionate impression yet inside her mind a whirlwind of thoughts circled around.

Today Fyriel wore her everyday Hufflepuff school robes. Besides not having done her hair and brushed her teeth she looked ready for the day. As usual she wore a silver necklace with the initial 'O' hanging in the middle of the chain. Under her robes she wore a pair of ochre yellow sneakers with black laces. As Fyriel listened to Eldridge's reply she picked up an apple from a fruit bowl on the table and rubbed it on her robe to get some of the wax off the exterior. The girl dropped it in her backpack to keep as a snack for later.

"What do you mean by that?" The boy exclaimed with clear astonishment painted on his face. As if she had just called him out for being something bad. He did not particularly like the Hufflepuff Head of House. The man was far too happy to be taken seriously. It was clear that some people were just spared from any torment in their lives. Eldridge bet Caradoc Browne would have led a pampered life, one that allowed him to get those fancy dramatic arts classes and had him tripping all across the world. The Slytherin snorted before taking a sip from the orange juice he was offered before.

His eyebrows perked up as she began to show her true colours. An adventurer it seemed. Sadly Eldridge had fairly little time for adventures. They were far too dangerous, and he had his own monthly share of them regardless of his own wishes. Alpha wasn't going to make things any better, he figured. He physically retracted a bit as the girl leaned in closer. A frown covered his face before he'd slowly push her back in position. "Right, so exploring." He rolled his tongue over his teeth as his lips pursed together. Eld eventually sighed. "I know only one place like my back pocket and it is not a nice one. So sorry, not the man you need for this job." He shook his head with a sage smile on his face. Sliding his fingers through his hair as he inspected the Hufflepuff.

As his eyes slid sideways to meet her gaze, he eventually relented. "Alright then, what places have you found?" Curiosity killed the snake after all...

Fyriel squinted her eyes at Eldridge for a few seconds to see if he was serious or just joking but when she noted his snorting the huffle realized he was being dead serious. What a strange fella this one... “Well, it kind of seems to me like you have the same trait of not caring too much of what others think, you just do what makes you comfortable. That’s what I can pick up from you anyway but I’ve never been the best at reading people”, Fyriel shrugged in an apologetic way to show the Slytherin she was not trying to offend him. “But that’s a good trait I believe”, she added with a smile. The huffle wished she could say the same for herself. Putting her own needs before others was something she hadn’t quite gotten the hang of yet.

Eldridge at first showed no interest in her adventurous plans but when he let slip that he did know of a place Fyriel got excited. He continued to ask her which places she had found in the past so she told him about one in particular.

“One day, about a year ago, my parents took me along on a road trip east of our hometown. We stayed in an eerie looking motel along the interstate one night. I could not sleep because of the way too bright neon sign flashing in my window so I decided to go for a stroll. I had to sneak out because there’s no way my parents would have let me”, Fyriel exclaimed dramatically flinging her hands about as she told her story, it seemed as if she was casting magic the way her hands flung about. The huffle continued,” So, there I was walking behind the motel, trying to find anything noteworthy when saw this little cabin. The wooden exterior was rotten and it even had a strange odour to it. I tried peeking through the windows but my view was blocked by newspapers and tape. Naturally, this just made me want to get inside even more. On the side of the cabin was an old wooden door. It was locked but the hinges were so rusty they were barely holding the door up so I gave it a hard push, maybe a kick and it broke off.

When I entered the eerie cabin an ominous feeling slid across my spine. Something just didn’t feel right to me. I ignored it and walked in anyway and what I found was... quite disturbing. I had flashbacks for a week.”
Fyriel paused and shook the feeling off her body. Gazing into Eldridge’s eyes, she told the rest of her story: “So, I went inside and I couldn’t see loads but I could make out enough to see what there was. There were several shelves on each wall and a table crammed into the small space. On the table were the strangest tools I had ever seen, they almost seemed like torture devices.” Fyriel made a sour face as she explained what she had found. “But on those shelves… There were these glass flasks, vials and jars… They had chunks of something pink in them. At first, I could not recognize what they were but when I picked one up and read the label... It said ‘lunch’. Next, I put it back and grabbed another which said ‘supper’. I was confused as hell of course because what was that. I grabbed the next jar off the shelf and turned it around so get a closer look. There was a FINGER in it! A real, flesh, human finger! With the nail and everything! I freaked up and ran back to my room, locked the door and woke my parents up early in the morning making sure we left that crazy place immediately.” The young huffle had a glint of disgust in her eyes and shook her head to clear the visual from her mind. “That was an interesting night, definitely...”
"Anyway, you were saying you knew a place? Is it dangerous?", Fyriel could not hide the eagerness in her expression or tone. She had to find this 'bad' place as Eldridge called it. "It can't be much worse than fingers right?"
