AN: Lol, same goes for Paul. Petless till August.
The professor's question laid on fertile ground. Paul watched as one of the kids almost immediately rised their hand, and answered."Now, can anyone tell me the correct method to rid a home of Doxies?"
"Doxycide, hehe." Paul repeated, apparently taking a liking of the term. "That's a funny word! Like insecticide! Only that it's Doxies it kills." Said the boy with a grin, apparently amused by the word. Funny people, the creators. "Hm, what do you think Rob, which one came first, Doxycide or insecticide? Are wizards the ones who have taken a Muggle word and changed it, or is it the other way around?" A spark ran through Paul's eyes, as the boy kept listening to the professor.
"So..." Paul turned to Rob again, when he stopped focusing. "When are we duelling and sparring? How about... tomorrow afternoon, we do the duelling, and at weekend, the sparring? We have to look for some swords or bows though, but that shouldn't be hard, in a medieval castle, right..."
After that, the topic came back to the matter of pets.
"No, I don't."
"Me neither. But Corrine does. She's got an owl. Have ya met it? It's the sweetest, fyi." Said Paul after having rocked back and turned around. He also watched Rob's reaction to his description of Cor's owl. Speaking of it made Paul want to show that he was closer to the girl than Rob. No other hidden motives, just that.
"...but I felt like I should familiarize myself with Hogwarts before having to take care of something else."
Paul nodded. "Got it. Are you from a Muggle family like me?" Asked the Gryffindor, in an attempt to find a reasoning to Rob's motives. "I mean, it's so different from Muggle school, that I completely feel ya."

"I'm not quite sure which came first," Robin tapped his quill below the word "doxycide", just enough to leave a pin-sized mark but not enough to annoy himself. "All I know is that the second part of both words, 'cide', existed before the compound. It means 'to kill' or 'to get rid of' . . . something like that." Discovering the origin of various compound words can be rather interesting in Robin's opinion. That's also one of his memorization strategies for complex terminology—if you know what the individual parts mean, it's easier to put together and not lose meaning. The boy still whispers his replies, but they are obviously not as tense as before. Not that he's comfortable with being disciplined if noticed, Robin just got gradually loosened up by this unexpectedly enjoyable conversation.
Regarding Paul's invitation, Robin hesitated a little. Agreeing to a duel the next day seemed too hasty, especially considering the need for moderation and requesting to use the dueling club room. "Maybe . . . " Robin trailed off, his mother would surely disapprove of his back-and-forth-ness. Why wait to make friends? You want dueling partners don't you? He can already hear her voice.
Still, logic and cowardice won.
"Best wait a bit, the weekend sounds fine." Robin furrowed his brows to recall how long it took for him to arrange his first unofficial duel. It was harder then since he also wasn't able to immediately find an opponent, but the process after that still took some time. "At least the weekend, but maybe longer. I am looking forward to it, by the way." He felt the need to add that last part to prevent Paul from getting the wrong idea—if Robin's mother was here, she'd say he worries too much. Thinks too much. Sometimes that's good but other times it just blocks you.
Robin let out a sigh of relief when the topic turned to pets. He had met Corrine's owl, technically. He sure wasn't familiar with the creature, he just occasionally heard it brought up in casual conversations, and saw it from some distance in the Ravenclaw common room. He might've seen it in the owlery a couple of times when he was sending his own letters back home, but he's uncertain about that, most owls look very similar to him. Birds aren't his expertise, quite ironic considering his name. He told Paul just that: he'd met their friend's owl occasionally. That's about it.
"Oh, I'm uh half-blood." Robin isn't shameful of his background at all, he's just somewhat awkward that he gave Paul the wrong idea. "My parents both came to Hogwarts, mum's pureblood, dad's muggle-born. They told me about their time here, but most of it's—well, a love story. And other 'stories', but nothing really on how to survive the academy." Robin continues to respond to the Gryffindor boy's inquires and comments, but after a while the conversation died down and he sat back to quietly finish the lesson. Just so the professor's starting and ending impression of him are the same, he's still the good student who definitely didn't chat with a classmate for the bulk of the lecture.
Robin thinks too much. Sometimes that's good but other times it just blocks you. Like his "maybe" that day, Robin didn't guess their dueling would be postponed till next year. Things came up, they still took the same classes, but Robin Hood didn't get his sword practice in.
Reducioas said on dc, sry for missing the thread again:( this will probably be my last reply to this thread so we can move on to the long-awaited dueling (unless you want to respond one more time to this of course
