lovely morning

Amara grins back at Mars, "You do realize an epic is just a narrative in prose right?" Amara tries to make this come out playful- nothing more than challenging an eagle's knowledge. But than Amara remembers how- let's just say prideful some Ravenclaws could be and she started to feel bad, of course, no apologies were going to happen though."But a poet, huh? Then this epic should turn out pretty great, no?" they flashed a grin, "Can I ask about the plot, or is that a touchy subject?"
Amara takes another sip of tea as she thinks about how to answer the second part of Mars's question, "I guess it is about finding yourself when you are lost" Amara knew that earlier she had lied to Mars and started to feel remorse, it was not a story her birth mother told her when she was little but rather one Amara told to get her out of some of her states, to help her birth mother find herself. "What about you, any hobbies? Why are you out here this morning?" Amara felt triumphant, hoping that she had diverted the conversation to more light-hearted subjects or really anything but her birth parents.

"You do realize an epic is just a narrative in prose right?" Mars could see the little smirk on Amara's face. Oh this one was interesting. Mars let it roll off their back good-naturedly; the thing about making correcting comment was that you had to learn how to receive them as well, especially in jest. That little bit of disconnect to their house rippled through their stomach but they ignored it.
"I guess it is about finding yourself when you are lost," came the other answer. Vague, but acceptable. It seemed like a story one's mother might tell her child, not that Mars had any experience in that department. They mused, looking for something else to say when Amara cut through with a question of her own.
"What about you, any hobbies? Why are you out here this morning?"
Hobbies... that should have been an easier question than it was. Mars had interests, sure, but they'd never really had time to develop anything special. All their time had been divided between school and raising their brothers to turn out at least half decent. Sometimes, they wondered what it would have been like, to not have five little monsters and all the time in the world to cultivate a talent, but then, the five little sh*ts were the best thing in Mars' life. They couldn't imagine life without them.
Luckily, there were things that the six siblings enjoyed doing together. Deciding that Amara didn't want to hear the entire tragic backstory of somehow becoming a nanny at age 9, Mars opted for,
"Mmmm, I quite like music. I'm not a half-bad singer either. I like to cook and I've got a thing for spiders and reptiles. As for why I'm out here, eating in the morning just isn't my style. Makes me nauseous. And it's quiet in the morning... usually." Mars picked at a wildflower nestled amongst the grass and placed in on Amara's knee as they said the word "usually." That seemed like a pretty decent list. The lake glittered in front of them, seeming to agree.

Reducio
If you want to know a tiny bit more about Amara's backstory go check out my most recent blossom ball post. Also, I have thee threads going (maybe more) where Amara has tea in a thermos, this is becoming her thing.

Amara glanced down at her knee, a flower now rested on it thanks to Mars.
Amara nods, "You know, I have only ever listened to classical music. Never had a taste for Lizzo or such," She tries to say this as nonchalantly as possible but knowing that in the past people seem to find the fact outlandish, she braces for some form of a shriek or 'Oh my god, liar!' Amara sips on her tea and makes a face realizing she is out, "Dang it!" she mutters. Amara decides to lay down and smiles feeling the sun on her face, it is almost as invigorating as her tea can be."Mmmm, I quite like music. I'm not a half-bad singer either. I like to cook and I've got a thing for spiders and reptiles. As for why I'm out here, eating in the morning just isn't my style. Makes me nauseous. And it's quiet in the morning... usually."

"You know, I have only ever listened to classical music. Never had a taste for Lizzo or such," Mars snorted. Somehow, they'd gotten that kind of vibe from the Slytherin girl. Maybe it was the journal, maybe it was the use of the word prose, who knew.
"Hey, don't hate on the greats." they said sarcastically, worrying their tongue between sharp canines. Amara made a face, muttering something Mars couldn't catch. With the way she set the thermos down on the ground and plopped down on her back, Mars could only assume she ran out of tea. Well, it was bound to happen.
The snake lay in the grass, sunlight bouncing off her hair and face. Mars sat over her, still picking at the grass.
"No though, classical music is in a league of its own. The complexities of the melodies and whatnot are enviable even at worst." Mars smiled. "Props to anyone who enjoys it without getting lost in the makeup." It was true that Mars admired classical music and musicians in general. It was almost like magic, getting so good at something so hard. But they'd never had the time to commit to learning a complex instrument. Guitar was on their bucket list, but that was mainly focused on chords, something to be the blanket over their liting voice.
But it's not really my thing. Kinda hard to sing something without words, y'know?" Mars laughed at themself a little and then down at Amara.
"But Lizzo? That's quite the example." The Ravenclaw held up a plucked blade of grass, twirling it between their fingers.
"I guess it kind of just depends on my mood."

Amara nods, I agree, that's why I also listen to jazz so I guess I kind of lied..."
Amara started to play with her hair, tucking what fell out of her bun behind her ears, [color-#00FFF]"What do you sing? Original stuff or covers?"[/color] Amara looks over at Mars and notices their hair looks red in the sunlight- it is nice.
Amara nibbles on a muffin as she listens to Mars's next comment, "Yeah, Lizzo was just the first person I could think of for some reason. I mean I do like how empowering her music can be for women, people of color, and bigger people. It is a good thing- especially in the muggle world where they can be much more judgmental."
Mars than continues to explain that the music they like depends on Mars's mood. Amara looks at her, listening intently. As Mars finishes, Amara smiles at them as a pleasant silence wraps around them. Amara is glad she came out here and did not just yell at Mars when they first looked at her poetry. It has turned from a pleasant morning to an enjoyable one. Amara licks her lips as she shifts her position to make herself more comfortable and cracks her neck.

From her position in the grass, Amara made a comment about jazz, then politely asked about their singing. Mars laughed.
"Jazz isn't really my style," they smiled. Jazz just so happened to be Plato's favorite genre. Why, they never understood. "But I do like swing."
The morning had turned out to be quite a pleasant one. Amara was good company and easy conversation.
"I wish I was talented enough to write my own stuff. I mostly do covers, if you can call them that. It's more like singing for my little bros." In all reality, music writing was something Mars had considered pursuing. But the artist world was shaky at best and malicious at worst and they wanted to give themselves and their little brothers the best chance at survival possible. A stable job would probably suit them better in the long run.
Amara procured a muffin from somewhere Mars hadn't seen. She nibbled on it, then said,
"Yeah, Lizzo was just the first person I could think of for some reason. I mean I do like how empowering her music can be for women, people of color, and bigger people. It is a good thing- especially in the muggle world where they can be much more judgmental."
"I have to agree with you on that." Mars mused. Amara's last statement was all too true. The muggle world seemed to breed people who wanted nothing from you but a good laugh and a dollar or two. Hardly anyone seemed to slow down enough to get to know each other so, in a way, the judgment was a given. Mars hadn't spent enough time in the wizarding realm to say anything about wizards though.
Amara shifted positions, cracking her neck in the process.
"That sounded nice," Mars mentioned automatically. They looked around at the school building, trying to see if any other wizards were trickling out from the dining hall. It didn't seem like there was anyone else, so they plopped down beside Amara, gazing at the sky.
"Do you want to be a writer when you grow up or do you have something magical in mind?" they asked.

lovely morning
Amara has had a nice morning, it has been peaceful and hopefully has made a new friend. Mars seems like a nice person and Amara hopes to spend time with them again.
Amara checks her watch and sees that the first class starts in a few minutes but Mars clearly does not realize this as they continue talking. They talk about what they sing and then compliment Amara on the noise her cracking neck makes which is a bit... odd.
They lay down onto the grass next to Amara and ask her about what she wants to do when older.
"Well, writing is not a safe career, you do not make a steady enough income. Instead, I would like to work is wizarding politics and law. Maybe as an ambassador? I also could see myself becoming a professor. Other than that no idea, sorry I could not have a more specific answer."
Amara starts to pick up her stuff and put it into her bag, "I think that first period should be starting soon, but it was nice meeting you. See you around hopefully?"
Amara stands up and sticks her hand out, offering to help her new friend stand up.

At Amara's departing words, Mars glanced back at the entrance to the Courtyard. There were a couple of wixes streaming out now, probably on their way to get a breath of fresh air before first period.
They clasped Amara's hand, pulling themselves up with her anchoring weight. It seemed like Amara already had a plan for the future, vague as it was. They sighed a little. They'd hardly just been introduced into magic, let alone have time to contemplate a magic career. They'd have to do that eventually. They wanted to give their brothers the best possible life, one way or another.
Brushing the grass stains off of their pants, they grinned at Amara.
"Thanks for the hand. And yeah, we should totally do something again," they glanced at the area around them, "Maybe something more interesting though, hm?"
With a final glance in the Slytherin's direction, they motioned with a little wave and started back into the building. They passed quite a few people on the way into the main hall, a fair amount of who had muffins or apples clutched in their hands. Their stomach growled a bit. Maybe they really ought to stop by the mess hall.
Thinking back to Amara, they hoped they'd meet again. She seemed like a bright, driven girl. They'd have to bother her about that book again someday. For now, they'd focus on figuring out their way to History of Magic.
Thread Left.
