Headmasters Office

His first few weeks in Mahou, he was rarely seen. During morning assembly he would be there to show face, but it would be hard for students to catch him. One day, he announced his office - after several months, is finally open for students to come in if they had questions, requests, and such. The announcement was straight forward, softened with a gentle lull to his tone, and followed by a charming smile. As if welcoming whomever wished to see him.note: this office contains pre-approved headmaster interaction. feel free to take advantage of them! More explanation below
The students would find themselves in a normal looking office. Polished and clean, almost like a movie set that muggleborn students may be familiar by. Too clean - even. Like the one occupying it wasn't concern about comfort more than image. Brightly lit, despite the large window on the side letting natural sunlight in. Behind the headmasters chair, was a whole wall of what seemed to be acheivements, throphies, ceritificates. Distant behind him enough that one would have to go behind his desk rudely to peer closer to see what those acheivements really are. Across his table, a chair would be availble for 2 students to sit in front of him.
On his desk, (INTERACTABLE)
A jar of tiny wrapped candy. Seems harmless… enough.
A large trunk. (UNINTERACTABLE)
On the side, rumoured to be the trunk where Sako keeps all the things he had confiscated from students. Some may claim they tried to open it when he wasn't looking, but hasn't succeded so far. Sako was willing to give items back if the students faced him themselves. If you had enough shame to bring things that didn't help your studies, then you should be okay facing the headmaster. A student may find that an unlocking charm wouldn't open it. (If you wish to use this prompt, please give me an owl with the item you think could be confiscated. There is a 96% chance Sako will have 1 excuse for why it should be in the trunk).
Coffee Counter (INTERACTABLE)
A counter on the side with a faint smell of coffee that seemed to linger deep in the office. Probably where Sako makes his brews. The shelves lined with jars of what was likely coffee beans, labelled. You may see names like: Colombian Narino, Mocha Matari, Indonesian Kopi Luwak, etc. If your character likes coffee, it may tempt you to take a closer look. Careful to mess around with it while Sako it not in his office. Some of those jars look breakable.
Dartboard (INTERACTABLE)
On the other side, was what muggles would recognise as a dartboard. It seemed well used. Evidence of things being stuck in the board for a long period of time could be seen. But as of this moment, there was nothing there. Like some sort of odd choice of decoration.
CHOOSE AN ENTRANCE!
To knock, or not to knock?
》Knock! My parents taught me good manners!
When your student enters, Sako would be standing by the tall wall length window, peering out to the outside before turning back to your character. " Come in~",》Dont knock! Enter and show him who's boss!
Sako's eyes widened at the sudden intrusion. He assessed the student and their entrance for a moment. He regained his composure, looking back at the student silently with a neutral glance before giving them a small smile that anyone attentive enough with social skills know that it was fake. Still, he waits them to make the first sound if they hadn't already. If they just stand around like a fish out of water, proceed to pick a robe colour/clothes for your character in the next choice and refer to what Sako said. Note that no matter what, Sako will remember your characters choice.》Neither! I make my own choices!
For whatever reason, your character either seems to only want to talk through the door, or burst in with a unique dialog that will require a unique reaction from the headmaster. If so, please clearly state your characters behavior in the thread.CHOOSE A ROBE/CLOTHES !
Sako treats them differently depending on it.
》Navy and Golden:
He gives them a welcoming smile, as if just existing made Sako proud of them. " Ah! (Y/n kun/chan)! What a pleasant surprise, hello there. Welcome to my office. How are you? What can I do for one of Mahoutokoro's brightest?》Purple and Lavender:
He turns to them, his expression indifferent but his tone remains polite and a small almost encouraging smile was on his face. " Welcome to my office, (Y/n kun/chan). Are you doing well today? What brings you here. Did you need something? Everything going well with your studies?". He feels like a distant relative that only ever asked the same question every time they saw the student.》Pink and Pastel
At the corner of his eye, he had already seen the robe colour. Taking a bit longer to acknowledge them. " Oh, hello there, (Y/n kun/chan)….." only then does he turn to see them, though a smile couldn't be found on his face. " Did… someone sent you here because you caused trouble, or are you lost? I'll try my best to help whichever it is" he says his last word with a smile that doesn't reach his eyes. " If you came to retrieve a confiscated item, I'm sure you've been told I expect a lengthy essay of reflection~It had not matter that the student came for their confiscated item or not. Why else did a lazy student muster the energy to visit the headmasters office?》Wearing casual clothes during weekend/public holiday/ after school hour
" Oh, hello there. How are you?", Sako says, remaining polite with his hands behind his back.》Wearing casual clothes during school hour
" …. You are quite bold going in here of all places, and being out of uniform..." he states, saying nothing else until y/n speaks again.

Headmasters Office

It wasn't hard to detect the headmaster was happy to see Suzuki came in. Most importantly - her robe colours was what greeted him first. He had been unsure about opening his office to just anyone. Half tempted to limit his office's open hours to just navy or golden robed. But he was already so strict with how he ran things around here, he didn't need majority of the student population to start hating him more than they might have. Still, it was a delight to see one of his more hardworking students first. …… even if she forgot to zip up her bag.
He had half the mind to help pick it up for her, already bending his knees slightly. But his eyes caught on to the unfamiliar cover as he watched her be able to pick it up herself and put it back in her bag. He paused for a moment, though then giving her a smile. " Aha well.. thank you. I should apologise for taking so long to announce the opening of my office. There was quite a bit of work to do and get used to, and I wanted to ensure that I could give the students here my full focus and attention if I were to ever open my office doors. Still.. I could say the same for you Suzuki-chan. You've done Mahoutokoro proud, earning the golden robes recently. You were a navy for quite a while before weren't you? Golden robes are a great honour, you absolutely must stay focused to ensure you keep it. Speaking of focus.." he kept his hands behind his back but his tone remained its gentle lull as when she just arrived. " What was that book you dropped earlier, Suzuki chan? I don't recognise a school textbook with that cover. May you show it to me?"

" Nothing much changed…..?" The confusion was evident in his tone despite him trying to keep a polite smile. " Suzuki-chan.. you are admitting to me that you … dabbled … is this sort of reading material before? Manga.. you say.. this is a muggles item, I'm .. frankly surprised one that comes from a known family line like yours would be able to access such a thing…"
Fruits basket. What a ridiculously stupid name. He hadn't said that part out loud of course. Why anyone would be drawn into a book with a title such as that. What is about fruits? In a basket? The cover wasn't impressive either. Especially compared to the ones he has been reading. Mid - or so what the kids say these days.
" Hm… well…" Sako placed a few fingers casually over his mouth, his thumb at the edge of his jaw - thinking. " I don't really see any benefit for a newly golden robed student to be in possession of something like this, if I'm really honest… you do understand how easy it is to lose these colours, Suzuki-chan.. " he showed a concern tone, like a parent already deciding on disapproving a childs hobby. "Normally…. I would advice you hand that over to me for safe keeping, until the holidays come. However…. admittedly it feels unfair. I acknowledge despite this.. hobby - you still made me proud with your recent academic performance". He placed his hands behind his back, giving an easy-going smile.
" So let's say this, Suzuki-chan…… would you like some sort of trade for it? Any so. We can negotiate. Unless you want to argue as to why you should keep that .. fruitbasket manga. Please - feel free to go all out. Negotiation or arguments. Whichever you choose~"

" Is that what it sounds like?" The question rolled off his tongue as he placed the pads of his fingertips on his chin briefly, curious. Sako expected the girl to take a step back at this point. It was not everyday you get offered a deal from your headmaster after all. It was unimaginable during his time in Mahoutokoro. Most wouldn't know what to do in this situation. However, instead of stepping back, she stepped forward. Not only that - but even going as far as avoiding a solid answer. Instead, Kanae suggested an angle. Giving room for Sako to confirm or deny the assumption.
Furthermore, she went on to avoid the deal altogether. " Would you really?" He says, unable to hide mild mixture of fascination followed by curiosity behind his tone, alongside the smile that seemed just a tad more genuine this time as he turned away, his eyes glancing at the coffee cabinet.
" Because I have time to listen, if you are willing to share whats on your mind, Suzuki-chan". He glances back to her with his usual smile. " It seems quite dear to you this bold. Suggesting you could argue with your headmaster. You know… back in my day, that was unfathomable and could land you in detention. And if your grades are less than what you've shown me then that might've been the case. However, I find myself quite curious on your thoughts."
" So.. Suzuki-chan, shall I brew you tea or coffee?". His closed-ended question implied it would be unwise to suggest another option.

| xxxx | Her smile remained albeit smaller now as she adjusted the grip on her manga, thumb brushing absentmindedly along the spine as she spoke. "Tea would be fine, Headmaster." Kanae's gaze stayed steady on him as she spoke. “And yes… I would argue the opposite.” Exhaling softly, almost amused. "Well I guess curiosity has no harm as long as you won't take my book." Of course she had to secure that before anything. She worked way too hard to get her hands on it just for it to be confiscated while she was in her academic peak (so far). “Because if someone can only perform well by stripping away every harmless thing they enjoy, then why perform well?” “I don’t read manga instead of working hard. I read because after hours of lectures, essays, drills, and practicals, my brain needs something else to hold onto for a bit.” She lifted the book slightly. “Stories are still stories, whether they come from a dusty philosophy text or a manga volume from a muggle bookstore. If this were the exact same story, characters, visual style, and whatnot but placed in a highly regarded literary book from 500 years ago then it would be viewed as a book that highly intellectual people would read in their leisure time.” The words were calm -- not rebellious for the sake of rebellion. A faint grin tugged at her lips then. “Besides, I’d like to think Mahoutokoro’s standards are high enough to survive one emotionally constipated orange-haired boy and a couple zodiac transformations.” “Though I admit I’m a little curious, Headmaster.” Her tone softened into something almost conversational. “Why does it bother you so much?” too lazy to code uhhh 278 words but a lotta yapping |

Sako merely went ahead and prepared tea for both of them. As she hasn't specified which she wanted, he went to the safe option of english breakfast for both of them. The pot was heating up as Kanae mentioned curiosity has no harm as long as he wasn't going to take her precious manga, in which he hadn't glanced back at her but if she took notice, he would smile slightly at that though deciding not to answer. He couldn't promise something he couldn't fufil afterall. Or even intended to.
Once Sako had prepared tea, and set it on the table. The cup prepared for Kanae was lightly warmed, steam still dancing over the trasculent dark drink. Sako had his own cup in front of him but he hadn't touched it. Only sipping it after Kanae touched hers, if she ever did.
At the quick summary of what he assumed were the contents of the manga, he let out a short lived laugh. Ridiculous. Even with the quick praise to Mahoutokoro's standards, it seemed like an awful story to destress over. Still, he was quiet for a moment, considering what was shared and where to begin.
"I appreciate your approach to this" he starts, as if saying ' I expected worse'
" What you mentioned regarding stories did make sense. If you haven't been putting the effort you have in your classes, it would've showed up on your robe and I would've been a lot more skeptical if your brain needed such things to help with stress. But as that is not the case, your argument holds up pretty well. I do still have some inquiries, as it relates to the question you had for me."
" You said why perform well by stripping away things you can enjoy? For me, it is because there is no other choice for someone of my background. Because the skill 'just do it', despite your feelings - is one that can get you very ahead in a country like Japan. I personality think it's a good skill for students here to hone before they prepare for the real world."
" Why it bothers me so… hm… " truthfully he hadn't expected that question. " What do you mean, Suzuki-Chan? You mean bothered by mangas? Bothered by you reading mangas?"
" I am still keeping in mind of the questions I'd like to ask you" he reminded, taking out a quill and writing some scribbles on a parchment paper. If kanae could read upsidedown, it would be written japanese stating:
' why opportunities'
' whats next?'
' others '
'robe drop'

| xxxx | The collector's edition rested lightly in her hands as she looked down at the cover that displayed Tohru Honda was facing her. Kanae looked back up to the Headmaster. "My family's rather traditional, but they aren't completely shut off from Muggle culture for my mother is a muggle herself." Her shoulders lifted ever so slightly. "Besides, Japan's full of these books. You'd have to actively avoid it." Kanae traced a thumb along the spine of the book absentmindedly, smoothing out the creases and dents on it. "Though I do understand your concern, Headmaster. Truly." Her voice remained respectful. "Golden robes aren't something I intend to lose over a hobby." There was a brief pause. "But... I don't think reading fiction is what determines whether I'll keep them." She took a sip of her tea. Funnily enough, her face was preparing to be burned by the hot liquid only to be soothed by it being warm instead. "If I were bringing this into class, ignoring assignments, neglecting my practicals, then I'd understand having it confiscated. That would be irresponsible." A small nod followed. "Though... I haven't done any of those things and quite frankly, if it did, it would be my own fault and not my consumption of this particular form of media." Kanae tilted her head ever so slightly. "If anything, this only comes out during free periods. Times when my work is already finished." The faint grin returned. "I think you've already noticed I'm not exactly the type to gamble my grades." Her gaze returned to him. "Stories are... stories. Some teach directly, others don't. Some are just enjoyable." She shrugged lightly. "I don't think enjoying one means I've become any less deserving of these robes." She hugged the volume a little closer as her feet tapped lightly on the floor. "So..." she said, polite as ever, "I think I'll choose the argument over the negotiation for it took quite a while for my mother to find these copies." "...Besides, Headmaster. If I traded away every hobby that wasn't directly productive, I'd be a terribly boring person." *throws reply at you*@Kotoka Sako |
