Makeover and Manicures
For Errand: Makeover and Manicures
Today was perhaps an odd day in Hogwarts. It was not exactly like every other Saturday. However, after the constant stress and dilemmas, things had to start changing. People needed a break. They deserved a break. Honestly, Hjørdis was running out ideas of what they could do to try and raise the spirits. Things were hard. But today was not about that. Today was going to be about something else.
With the help of Alaric, Hjørdis set up the room with little tables dotted around. Well, to be fair, Alaric did more of the lifting than she did. Most of it, in fact. He was definitely stronger than her, there was no doubt about that. Whilst he re-positioned the tables and chairs, Hjørdis followed behind and set each one up. There were mirrors at each chair, as well as a bunch of products that students could play with.
Students had been invited to the Courtyard to actually play with the products themselves or pair up with a friend so they can help each other out. However, both of the professors were also present and willing to help.
There were two main different boxes of products on each table. One was full of a range of makeup. Nothing super fancy or detailed but there was a range of different eyeshadows, blushes, lip glosses and pencil eyeliners, for example. There was also face paint so people could play around with different designs. They could, in theory, use the paint on their hand instead of their face, if they wanted to do solo work. There was nothing stopping them from also using the eyeliners as pencils on their hand.
The other box had a variety of colours in nail polish. Some had glitters in them, some were neon coloured, some crackled after application. There was also a few nail painting tools, such a very thin nail brushes for detailed work or a dotting tool. The box also contained a few stickers or crystals that could be lifted with some tweezers and added onto the nails for decoration if needed.
On the side table, there were a few other bits and pieces that they might want to use. For example, some little tubs for them, which they could filled with warm bubbly water from the jars nearby. These tubs were good for them to soak their hands in it for a little while, if they wanted to. Hjørdis had some nail filing equipment and could help them shape their nails a little.
The main point of the event was just to have a little bit of fun. Do something a little different, create some art. Hjørdis sat down near a table, sneaking a glance at Alaric, "I think you should do my nails," She voiced with a smirk, kind of tempted to see what he would actually create but also not. Hjørdis had a face full of makeup already and her nails already had nail polish on them, however. She had dark green matte coloured nails. She smirked to herself pulling out a white nail polish and a thin nail brush. Cracking open the bottle, she dipped the nail brush into it and started to paint an outline on her left hand's baby nail.

When Nora came to him with this idea, he was delighted to do something with her that would help take the kid’s mind off the trouble that seemed to surround them every day. It would be good for them too, he thought a moment, if only the smallest of moments, to forget the scary things that go bump in the darkness and enjoy themselves. Even if it would only be for a little moment.
Knowing that he would be working outside and moving things around, he dressed very differently than he usually did. Today he would be sporting gray and black sleeveless top and black pants. Alaric would carry two tables at a time, one in each hand, and set them down where she wanted them. While she set up the tables, be would grab the chairs for them two chairs held back to back in each hand. Then he would repeat the process until he was finished. In the end, he would grab an umbrella stand that was weighed down so any wind that tried couldn’t run off with it and placed it next to what he considered their table. Moving the tables and chairs around would be fine for his skin, but sitting down would require an umbrella as even on cloudy days, the man could acquire a sunburn if he wasn’t careful enough.
She teased him about doing her nails, but a playful smirk spread across the man’s lips as he sat down across from her happily under the shade of his umbrella. “I would be delighted to work around the design you are currently working on.” An idea already forming in his head on what he could do. Though it would not be minimalistic like she usually preferred, he thought she might like it all the same. “Anything for my starlit goddess.”
Alaric’s dull claws were left wholly unvarnished, and he would not be opposed to one of the kids that showed up today asking to do his nails if they so wanted to.

Katrina wasn't sure why she was walking towards the Courtyard for an errand, but she was walking nonetheless. The second-year had planned to study all day so that the end of the year tests would be a breeze. The lioness never let herself have a moment of break, she was afraid that if she stopped and thought about everything, she might break down and cry. Instead, she pushed herself to the limits.
How she looked never really bothered Katrina. Sure, her hair was always brushed and the teal streak proved that she cared somewhat about it, but she didn't know how to do many other things. As her mother hadn't been too good at makeup, the philosophy that 'beauty is on the inside' had been a pressure Katrina had grown up with. No one had taught her to do make up or how to dress up nicely.
There had been two instances that Katrina had dressed up. Those two, were the Hogwarts balls, and both nights had ended poorly.
Katrina took a seat at a vacant table. She saw Professor Jensen who planned most of the errands Katrina had participated in and Professor Equinox who had spurred Katrina's love of the stars back when he was the astronomy teacher. Besides those who Head of Houses, it seemed like no one had really shown up yet.
She chose a random box and dug in it, finding a color that actually matched the teal streak in her hair and the hidden teal embroidered dragon in her left sleeve. Katrina looked around helplessly. She had never painted her nails before in her life. Sure, back with her muggle friends she would do the fine details on their nails, but that was just like sketching. She had never actually done it on herself before.
"Can-- um, can someone help me?" Katrina asked the wind, hoping someone would come over and help her.

Amara had recently written home asking for hair bleach. While she did say that she only wanted to give herself subtle highlights, she lied. After the crazy year, she has had Amara wants to go bleach white and you know what, all's fair in (self) love and war so little lies should not matter.
Amara had heard that Professor Jensen was hosting a makeover party and decided that now would be the best time to dye her hair. She walked in with the box of dye and waved at Professors Equinox and Jensen who seem to be doing nails, "Hello Professors," she greeted them.
After that, Amara sees a tub that could work to wash the dye out of her hair. She plops down into a chair near the tub and starts to read the box's instructions. Her Dads got her muggle dye instead of a magical one so this will take a while. Amara decides to grab some makeup: eyeshadow, foundation, highlighter, lashes, all the works, to play with as she waits to dye her hair.
Once Amara has picked out her makeup, she takes out the dye and starts to squeeze it into her hair. Amara spreads the dye out so it covers her hair evenly and starts to dab foundation onto her face methodically as she waits.

Elspeth felt a little shy as she walked up to the tables that Professors Jensen and Equinox had set up. Although many of her peers seemed to be adept at using makeup and nail polish to make themselves look glamorous, Elspeth had yet to ever use either. She bit her nails regularly, partly out of nerves but mostly out of habit, and she considered herself to be a bit plain. Having worked fairly hard her first year to be invisible, putting something on that would draw attention to her felt a bit counter to her goal. But as the school year was winding down she was working to try and put herself out there a little bit more to try new things. Especially things that made her feel a little shy.
There weren't many students there just yet. She recognized Walker from their run in in the second floor bathrooms, but the other student wasn't someone she'd met before. It was surprising how small Hogwarts was, yet also how seemingly impossible it was to meet everyone. For a moment, Elspeth got a bit lost in her thoughts wondering about how many students lived in the castle with her that she'd never meet over her seven years there. Which turned into her wondering how many students would wonder if she was some random person who walked up into the castle given that they'd never seen her, either. She shook her head lightly. Come on, now. The point of this is to meet people. Out of the head. Out of the head.
The nails on her fingers were pretty much down to nubs, so she decided to find a seat that was closer to the makeup box. It would have been easy for her to sit off at a table by herself, and oh how she was tempted. But no. This was about meeting new people. Or, maybe, getting to know other people a little better. The student she had never met before seemed to be working on a more involved process with hair dye and makeup and all manner of things that Elspeth had no understanding of. So she walked over to a table near Walker and sat down, hoping that her being there wouldn't be seen as too much of an intrusion by the Gryffindor.
"Hi," she said gently, "I'm Elspeth, I think we've uh... seen each other around." A fresh start for the both of them might help to clear the awkward air. Plus, she could tell by looking at her that Walker seemed to be a bit out of place in this space too. "Are you, I mean - Do you know um, how to use any of this?" Elspeth poked around in the box, pulling out a few bottles of makeup but unsure of all the steps that went into using them. Maybe they'd have directions? Like shampoo bottles. She began reading the label and hoping it offered her some insight into what to do first.

When Katrina had asked the wind for someone to help her. She was not asking for the only person whom she had ever treated poorly to waltz over and sit down next to her. Again, she thanked herself for learning how to master her own facial expressions because on the inside Katrina was a sobbing mess who was yelling 'NOT HER NOT HER, DON'T SIT HERE!', however, on the outside, she was seemingly unaware as the girl walked over, squinting at the tiny writing on the nail polish bottle an expression of complete puzzlement on her face.
The girl, whom Katrina only knew as the panic attack girl, was most likely the only person in the entire school that should be afraid of her. The Ravenclaw had barged into the bathroom when Katrina had been in the middle of a mental breakdown and the second-year had frightened the girl so much that she had gone into a bad paralyzed panic attack. Afterward, Katrina had gotten a letter from her about how she was sorry and wanted to clear the air, but Katrina hadn't expected the girl to come to her. Katrina had hoped she could simply avoid the girl and the awkward discussion likely to follow.
It was only a hope that the girl wouldn't recognize her. Even though the teal streak in Katrina's hair made her easy to identify. At that moment, she debated actually removing the dye and going back to being invisible. But that streak was part of who she was. If the dye was causing her this much trouble, she ought to face the trouble after all.
The Ravenclaw girl sat down next to Katrina and she was glad that her sweatshirt could hide the tensing of her whole body, she really didn't want to have to apologize. With the sudden idea that she could pretend that Katrina didn't recognize the girl, she decided it would be mountains easier that way.
"Oh, hi, I'm Katrina. I suppose we've seen each other," Katrina trailed off as to indicate that she didn't remember when.
"Are you, I mean - Do you know um, how to use any of this?" The girl, Elspeth, asked.
Katrina set down the teal nail polish, "Not really... I know how to use the nail polish on other people. But I happen to be a professional with this stuff," Katrina waved her hand in the general direction of the box of makeup.
For grins, she took out a random container. "This is, um," she opened the top of it and sneezed as a puff of the chalky substance wafted in the air, "It's chalk stuff that you-- um," Katrina grabbed one of the fluffy brush things, "You, put it on your face..." With flourish, she put it on the back of her hand, eyes widening as she saw how dark it was on her pale skin, "It magically transforms you hand-- er, face-- darker to bring out, um, your jaw bone," She giggled and set the bronzer down, "No, I have absolutely no clue about any of this. And I can do mascara, and that's about it. I couldn't even name half of this stuff"
Katrina stuck to her story of not knowing Elspeth. Might as well show the girl that she wasn't all evil and scary.

Crystal walked into the courtyard, mildly confused as to why she decided to do this. Maybe it was because the idea of being able to mess around with makeup and nail art sounded fun, but either way, here she was. And glancing around at all of the things set up on the tables, it was pretty overwhelming. There was a lot of makeup, and then obviously the nail stuff. But something stood out to her, something she wasn't really expecting to see. Face paint, stuff that she tries to get her hands on every single day. Her face lit up, now this was much more exiting than just makeup. She grabbed herself a pallet of the face paint, and a brush. She grabbed one of the smaller ones she could see, if she was going to be doing art on skin, she wanted to be able to have precision. But, drawing on your own skin is really hard, she really preferred to draw on someone else if she could.
She glanced around, trying to see if she could find a victim person she could draw on. Her eyes landed on the Slytherin head of house. She seemed to be nice, from what she understood. For some reason she reminded crystal a lot of her house dad. Next to miss Jensen was a person Crystal hadn't ever seen before, the head of Ravenclaw house, Alaric. One of them might let her doodle on their arm, right? Crystal sucked in her breath and walked over to the two professors, and gave a smile and a wave. "Hi house mom! I mean, uh, Professor Jensen, Professor Equinox," she quickly corrected herself. She held up her painting tools, slightly embarrassed. "You mind if I could use one of your arms as a canvas? I found the face paint and wanted to do something with it," Crystal explained to the two professors. She already had plenty of idea of what to do, she could do like a neat rainbow dragon, a large flower, even maybe a more henna like pattern.

Saturday.
Ariana's favorite day of the week in her opinion. A day to relax, to do what she wanted, no last minute homework to finish, no lessons, it was wonderful. At least that's what most Saturdays consisted of, for today she was feeling rather irritable as she made her way to the courtyard grudgingly, May practically dragging her along as she grumbled and protested about not wanting to come. May beside her however, looked thoroughly ecstatic, jabbering on about wherever they were going to with a huge smile plastered on her timid features. Ariana had to admit that the girl had become increasingly comfortable around her since they had hung out more, and it made the gryffindor happy to know that the hufflepuff beside her was now edging out of her comfort zone. She had chosen a casual but pretty outfit today, a skirt with a light sweater [despite the warm weather] and her hair was down in her usual waves.
Stuck in her thoughts, she almost temporarily forgot where they were headed, and it was with new found panic that she jolted from her thoughts, anxious again. They reached their destination and Ariana hesitated. Prior to hogwarts she had never really been into this sort of stuff, manicures and makeovers. In truth she had always been a little too rowdy as a young child, to boyish in demeanor to care about it. This had changed though, as she proceeded to enter Hogwarts, although slowly. She was still prone to her impulsive, brash nature at times, temporarily forgetting to ‘act like a lady’. The event was set out beautifully, no doubt about that. Tables were set aside, each one with a mirror perched daintily on top. Boxes of products littered the room, all containing various assortments of glitters, nail polish and makeup items.
As she drew her eyes away from these, she noticed professor Jensen and professor Equinox, who seemed to be painting nails, also present at a table not far off. “Hello professors!” She greeted happily, smiling as she waved enthusiastically. It must have been them who had organised this event. She made her way to a table with May and upon sitting down, took a few of the bottles from their box and examined them. The last time she had tried to do anything like this, it certainly hadn't ended well. Upon her being 7 years old her idiotic cousin, Sofia, had attemted to paint the young girls nails, obviously anticipating that her girlish nature would rub on on her. This had not gone as she expected however, as the 7 year old Ariana had failed to stay still. The end result was a mess, nail polish bottles were sent everywhere and Sofia had stormed off haughtily after swearing that she would never be teaching Ariana anything ‘nice’ again.
Now Ariana placed the bottle down sheepishly, glancing up a May. “I'm not er, very good at doing this kinda...stuff. You don't suppose you could teach me a few things?”

Opeila had missed out on most of the errands from the previous month, to concentrate on her homework. After a two month break, she had found that it was time that Slytherin called the house cup their own again. And they had succeeded! No, Opeila did not regret, that she had concentrated on school work. This month though she felt more relaxed and decided to join some of the group events that were organized by staff. Her own last one had been a terrible flop when they all got busted by the Professors Jensen and Vernatis after barely half an hour.Permission to godmod Ileen given.
Again, Opeila had decided to ask Ileen to join the errand with her. The other Slytherin was nice company but seemed a little lost in the house of snakes, so Opeila thought it was a nice idea.
The brunette was not quite sure what to think about the topic of the errand. Makeovers and Manicures... Opeila had never shown a lot of interest in fashion. She simply didn't care really, as long as everything looked alright and the colours fit together.
But she had no idea about make up. She didn't even know what most of those products were. She could recognize nail polish and lipstick, but that was it. Opeila was twelve, she didn't see a reason to use make up at her age. She found it almost ridiculous. Not to mention that Lady Margary would have not allowed her to do it. She had always been strict when it came to Opeila wanting to do things that were not appropriate for her age.
Entering the courtyard, Opeila was surprised by the image before them. There were tables everywhere, with mirrors and boxes on them. Two Professors had set them up, her Head of House, Professor Jensen, and the former Astronomy teacher and Ravenclaw's head of house, Professor Equinox. Opeila walked over to one of the tables and looked into one of the boxes. She took some eyeshadow out of it.
"...That is for the eyes, right?", she asked Ileen, who had entered the courtyard with her, looking a little helpless, before putting it back into the box. "Oh well, I guess I'll just do my nails, I have no idea, how most of this works..."

Makeover and Manicures
Airlia strutted into the courtyard happily to join into a makeover she had heard about from some students. Nailpolish was difficult to use as if it spilled it would stain everything it touched.
There were little tables all over the place with colors of nail polish and some makeup all over them. With bright neon colors and glitter all over the place, Airlia quickly spotted what she wanted.
Clear and white nail polish. As it had always been true ladies did not wear bright lip or nail colors and as such Airlia would only do a normal french manicure for herself.
With a happy nod to the teachers organizing this event Airlia sat down and got to work. She opened the tiny bottle which took a surprising amount of work since it seemed like a gorilla had tightened the cork up and she really struggled to unscrew it.
By the time she got the polish open, she began to swipe the nail polish onto her fingers.
The courtyard slowly began to buzz from students talking as Airlia hummed a Finnish song to herself. She had gotten used to not being home and the summer break so close around the corner Airlia wanted to look nice when she got home. Some nail polish would help with that.
If only she had tied up her hair or maybe braided it she would not have gotten her curly hair into her clear nail polish and ruined it.
Starting up again Airlia painted her left hand easy but when it came to the right hand it was a lot harder. She was right-handed and doing her nails with her left hand was far more difficult than it should have been.
She had to redo her pinky finger about three times before it was right. When she got the clear polish done she had to wait for it to dry. She spent that time looking up at the sky and trying to see clouds in animal shapes. There was one pig, a bunny, and one whale that was actually more like a huge blob than a whale.
Waiting for her polish to dry would have been boring if Airlia did not have such a wild imagination. Soon enough she was picturing pink unicorns running around and mushrooms with faces smiling jumping around happily.
For a minute Airlia freaked out about the mushrooms having red caps and white dots on them so they were poisonous but Airlia just imagined them not to be and suddenly the unicorns she had imagined were no longer poisoned from nibbling on the mushrooms.
If she were not a child it would have been a strange sight but she just enjoyed her little magical world.
When her nails were dry Airlia went to seek out for a curved tape. Slowly she laid them on her nails leaving only the edge exposed so that she could paint them white.
The white polish was not as saturated and pigmented as it should have been so she had to do three layers onto her nails before the color was perfect.
She peeled off the french manicure tapes and waited for her nails to dry.
After that, she wanted to try makeup. The only times she would really wear anything more than a simple lipgloss was at the Winter family formal balls mid-summer and winter.
Airlia found a mirror and grabbed a box of makeup. She started up with picking a nice eyeshadow color. There were all sorts of color, mostly shades of brown but also reds, yellow, green, blues, and her ultimate favorite was a dusty vintage rose color it had some very subtle sheen to it. She grasped a nice brush and very gently applied it to the lid all the way up to the crease.
Garage doors are what she'd heard people call eyeshadow that goes all the way up to the eyebrow and Airlia wanted a bit more of a natural look... Well as much as a pink eyeshadow could look natural.
She blended it and then took an angled brush to gently do her eyebrows slightly darker. Her brows were naturally very pale so making them a bit darker looked good on her.
Next, she had to add blush. With blush, less was always more which is why she chose a pale shade over a barbie pink or a darker red color. She started from her cheekbone and lightly dabbed it onto her skin towards her nose. On the tip of her nose, she added a very small tint of pink and it made her look rather adorable.
Mascara was something she was deadly afraid of so she only swiped it on very gently.
Once she stopped adding on makeup she looked at herself in the mirror. Her skin was so utterly pale the blush gave her actual color. Her skin looked much better with some dimension to it and for once she really wished she could tan.
The problem with Airlia coming from Finland meant that she burned her skin in the sun very easily. This meant that even now she was wearing a huge floppy straw made sun hat that cast shade to her face and shielded her skin from the dangerous sun rays.
Her legs would always burn though since she loved wearing vintage summer dresses and wouldn't give them up for anything.
When she added a clear lipgloss she was done. The lipgloss was so beautiful and when the sun hit it, it glistened gorgeously.
She was utterly happy with spending a day like this. Dolling up makes people feel more confident and at the student's age, anyone could really use a confidence boost.
Once Airlia was leaving she got to admire some super beautiful makeup and nail polish on her way. She complimented her fellow students participating, on their nice work.
She happily skipped away with a wave to the teachers who had put work and time into setting this up.
It really was a very nice way of bringing everyone together to feel beautiful and like a community.
