Her heart nearly leaped out of her chest when the loud BANG! came from behind her, as someone decided to open the carriage door without a care. She barely contained the scream that came straight from her soul when it left her body for a brief instant. Mey turned on her heels, her cheeks and ears burning not only from embarrassment at being scared like that, but also from irritation towards whoever has decided to enter the train in such manners.

As she found the culprits, the two tall and white-blonde haired twins, a "Huff.." and a pair of rolling eyes was her only possible reaction. Obviously, who else could be? She thought, as she gave a step back to allow space for the two McCoires to pass beside her and Jun. Colin even took the time to stick his tongue out at her, to which she responded by throwing her flat shoe at the back of his head, "You're both idiots!" She yelled at them, but her irritation quickly subsided, giving way to a big smile and light, soft laughter.

The smile turned smaller, but kept glued to her lips as she bent down to pick up her shoe from where it had landed on the carriage's corridor and put it back on. She straightened back, her eyes following the two twins for a bit longer, her mind wondering to questions biting on her tongue. But she would have to wait for later and for a better moment to voice them out. With a sigh and a small smile given to Jun, she picked up her trunk again and dragged it behind her towards one of the compartments.

Meyra looked through the window, towards the platform finding her family still there. Her mother was waving at her and Jun with a bright smile, her father had one arm over his wife's shoulders carrying his own smile and Hoshi was running around their parents after his favourite toy, a small beater flying on his broom. The sight gave her both comfort and reminded her of the sour, strange sensation that she had somehow betrayed them and the picture painted before her eyes.

This sentiment hit her every time she remembered the letter she had stolen from her mother's office. After reading it, her heart did a strange twist in her chest and she was still uncertain if she had done the right thing, that now that she knew the truth, if she really wouldn't rather erase her memory than face the consequences of her actions. Was it really worthy? This was the question she still didn't know the answer to. Because now there was a name, a real name, a real person...and she didn't know what to do with that knowledge.

Still, she smiled back to the people she loved and waved her goodbyes back, as the train started its journey back to Hogwarts, where another year would be waiting for her and her friends.

It was the first of September in 2025 and that meant it was the first day of her second year. Her‘s and Mey‘s. Jun‘s summer had been spent not missing Hogwarts or anything surrounding it much, since the only person she really cared for in the school could mostly be reached through a quick floo powder travel or a letter. Needless to say, that this person was Meyra Lancaster, her best friend and Cousin. The two girls were currently walking through the Hogwarts Express, on their way to find a compartment to sit in. As always, Jun felt a bit out of place beneath those around her, even when her Mother had told her moments ago to please be a bit more social this year. While Jun did not see any need for that, perhaps she would at least try to put some effort in making one new friend this year. Or at least something around the lines.

As the Ravenclaw pulled her satchel more onto her shoulder and turned her head to Mey, to ask whether her trunk also seemed heavier than last year, the sudden sound of a loud BANG rang in her ears. Jun could feel herself freeze in her spot, her eyes momentarily widening and her fingers instinctively wrapping around Mey‘s wrist as if she was expecting something to happen in the next moment. And something did happen, only that it was in the form of two particularly annoying twins. Liam and Colin McCoire stood face to face with the two second year girls, as always darting between them. Jun could barely let go off Mey‘s wrist before they passed through them and she heard Colin calling them ‚MeyJun‘, something he always did. Sometimes Jun wondered if he simply didn’t know who was who. She turned her head with them as they passed them, catching Colin sticking out his tongue at Mey, to which a grimace settled onto Jun‘s features.

Unexpectedly, her cousin reacted by throwing her flat shoe after the boys, aiming and hitting right into the older Slytherin‘s head, well the back of it. A soft snort of laughter escaped Jun, who was less than surprised by Mey‘s reaction. While it wasn’t anything Jun would have ever done, she could appreciate the bravery and wittiness in her best friend. „Impressive Aim“ Jun told the Lioness, turning to her with an amused smile. She didn’t even have the nerve to be annoyed at the twins when she saw Mey react like that, and truthfully, Jun had already gotten used to the two light haired idiots.

Then they were already moving again and Jun took the opportunity to shake off the slight adrenaline rush that she always got at the sound of banging doors. It was something that always momentarily made the memory, of the door crashing into her and sending her flying backwards that night, flash behind her eyes. More specifically the sight that had appeared afterwards. She quickly focused back on the weight of her trunk in her hands and the satchel on her shoulder and her cousins figure walking slightly in front of her. They moved through the corridor until, finally, an empty compartment appeared.

While Mey was already looking out the window, Jun pulled the compartment door shut and shoved her trunk under one of the benches. Then she smoothed over her skirt and stepped to the window, overlooking the platform and all the families and caretakers waving at their children. Jun could feel a soft tug in her chest at the sight of her Mother standing with her aunt, uncle and little cousin. Reina was just stepping closer to Harumi, joining in waving at Mey and Jun. A small smile pulled on the corner of Jun‘s lips at the sight of their family, her hand lifting to now wave too. She almost teared up a bit at the sight of what had only been repaired on the same day last year, but she quickly forced herself to blink those unnecessary tears away and smiled at Hoshi, who was running around with his new toy, instead. Her Mum stepped closer to the window and pointed at Jun‘s satchel, which she knew meant ‚write to us‘. Jun only nodded and then she felt the train slowly starting to roll. She stepped a little closer to the window at the same moment and waved to their family along with Mey.

It felt odd leaving them every single time, especially because Jun hated how her Mother was often alone, she knew that especially the evening and nights were hard for her when no one was in the house. Reina had never said anything to her daughter about it, neither would she, but Jun could still see the unsaid words in her eyes. Once she couldn’t make out their family in the crowds and distance anymore, a soft sigh left Jun‘s lips and she let herself fall onto one of the seats by the window, her eyes finding Mey.

Is it childish that I still find it odd when we leave them?“ She asked in the next moment. Perhaps it was a bit of a rhetorical question too, one that she had already had her own answer to, but she knew she could ask and tell Mey everything. „I guess we can be glad that we have a family worth missing“ she added then. Then the young Ravenclaw leaned back in her seat and settled in for the journey. Another year, classes, assignments and surely many days she’d spend with her best friend were ahead and she couldn’t say she had sorted feeling’s about it. Her feeling’s were always mixed when it came to Hogwarts.

Mey gave her cousin a soft smile as she shifted in her seat to a more relaxed position. The journey to the castle would still take some time, the sun would already be asleep in the sky once they would take the first steps towards the Great Hall. The train's wheels were a soft rhythmic sound on the background, along side the commotion that could still be heard up and down the corridors where students were still looking for a compartment and their friends.

Somehow Jun's words felt both as a comfort hug and as a little bit of something else that made her guilt feel even more heavy in her chest. Her eyes diverted from her best friend to look outside the window at the fast passing landscape as a wave of shame surrounded her. Her mind drowning again on the content of the letter that was burning a hole on her robe's pocket. She had to tell Jun, she needed her to know. But the thought of telling her cousin was making Mey even more nervous. How would her cousin react to knowing she did something that was so far across the line?

"I do miss them...I wish we could return home more often." Mey softly replied to Jun, her green eyes showing the cloud of sadness that fogged her heart. She sighed, trying to feel lighter as she readied the words to tell Jun about her secret. She had never kept one from her best friend and most certainly, would not start to do it now.

"Jun...there's something I need to tell you." She finally said, gaining courage to look back at her cousin. Her hand tightened on a grip above her robe's pocket, feeling the piece of parchment hidden inside, "I found...well...found it's not the right word I suppose..." She admitted, bitting nervously on her bottom lip, her eyes showing her guilt as she spoke, "It was more like...I took it from my mother's office without her permission."

Mey looked down at her lap, at the hand that was still holding on her Gryffindor's robe, "I know it was not a nice attitude, but I knew it was about me and I had to read it." She began to explain, wanting Jun to understand why she did what she did. She looked back at her best friend, trying to gain more confidence on her words, "Do you remember that man, that showed up before..." She sighed again, as if her words were so heavy it was difficult to let them fall from her lips, "before everything change? That tall, blonde haired man?".

Now that she herself, came to think about it, there was something in her memories of that wizard that reminded her of the McCoire twins...would they be related? And if so...would that mean that she indeed was related to the most annoying twins Hogwarts has ever seen? She chose to leave that thoughts for later, as she kept explaining things to Jun.

"He showed up again, at my mom's tea shop when I was helping her there during last year's summer. I don't know if I told you about that?" She asked, not being able to remember if she had told her cousin or not. It happened the summer before they first arrived at Hogwarts, and things were still very strained between their family. "I heard him talk with mom, and....I don't know if it was the tone or the words exchanged, but I was left with an almost certainty that it was about...well...about my father...the one that left mom." She said, her voice dropping to a saddest tone as she ended that sentence.

Mey slowly, took the letter from within her pocket, and took a moment to look at it folded between her slightly shaking hands, "I would like you to read it...if you don't mind?" She hesitantly asked Jun, reaching out the piece of parchment towards her cousin, "It...it is not only about me..." She said, her voice lowering to almost a whisper.

In hopes that no one would join them in their compartment, Jun set her satchel down beside her and opened the buttons of her cardigan. The air wasn’t cold just yet around this time of year, but to hide the mark on her shoulder, Jun always wore something over her short sleeved shirts. Especially somewhere as busy as the Hogwarts express. Just how busy the express was could be seen by several students passing across the hall to find their friends, the trolley lady or perhaps an empty compartment.

When Mey spoke again, Jun took her gaze off the little window in the door and looked back at her friend. However, something about her cousins appearance caused the Ravenclaw‘s thoughts to melt away entirely from any other subject and focus on the look in Meyra‘s beautiful green eyes. They seemed.. sad. Jun had known Mey since she could think, they did not miss these sort of signs in each other.

Her brows furrowed softly as she looked at her best friend, lips parting gently to ask what was bothering her. Only that Jun did not need to ask, because after her sigh, Mey seemed to gather all her strength to speak and so, Jun let her. She did not look away from the Lioness, instead her gaze became gentle, her features softening in a way that showed she was listening. Whatever Mey was going to tell her, it clearly seemed to trouble her.

Her best friend had found something she was not supposed to find? Whatever could that have been? Jun‘s mind was already going a thousand miles per hour, but then Mey continued. She confessed that she had taken something from her Mothers office without asking, but what would Harumi hide from her daughter? This did not make sense but Jun slowly nodded, understanding that her cousin needed her to show she was not going to interfere with her explanation.

With Mey‘s next words, Jun tensed. Of course she remembered the tall pale blonde man that showed up that night. She remembered the concerned looks that etched across the faces of Harumi and that man, the way her Father ushered them to Mey‘s room. Jun remembered everything of that night because she dreamed of it more often than she’d like to admit.

Despite her tenseness, Jun tried to pay attention to what her Cousin was telling her. That the man had shown up at Harumi‘s tea shop the summer before they started at Hogwarts. The Ravenclaw found herself absentmindedly nodding when Mey asked whether she had told her that she had helped her Mother that summer. They had so much to catch up on that first year, that Jun had forgotten this until now but yes.. Mey did tell her at least that she had helped her Mom.

Your Father?“ Jun asked with confusion spreading across her features at Mey‘s words. She could hear the tone of sadness in her best friend’s voice and suddenly had the very strong urge to reach out to her. They hadn’t spoken about Mey‘s Father in long. Of course it had come up when they were little, because children wondered about those types of things and Jun had always tried to be there for her cousin in those situations. Now the time seemed to have come where childish dreams and made up explanations faded into reality.

When Mey handed her the letter, Jun took it carefully as she kept her gaze on Mey‘s pretty green eyes and she felt herself nod again. „Of course I‘ll read it.. you know I‘ll help where I can“ Jun replied softly and then, before starting to read, she got up and slid into the seat next to Mey. Her hand found Mey‘s and she gave a gentle squeeze as to say ‚whatever it is, it’ll be okay‘. Then Jun began to read.

The train continued its journey, carrying the young students for another year of magic and learning, rolling along its track at a steady pace. A very different and contrasting pace from the beat of the young Gryffindor girl's heart, a heart that felt sad, guilty, and at the same time strangely relieved to have finally told someone what she had done and discovered about a secret she had never dared to ask again, not when she had tried and had felt how much it hurt her mother. It was a strange mix of feelings swirling in her chest, each of them carrying a different weight and size.

Her soul filled with hope, a type of comfort feeling that only her best friend could give her. There was no one else in the world who knew Meyra as well as her cousin Jun. Even growing up in different countries, they had shared much of their lives since they were very little. They had played together, dreamed together, built countless stories and moments together, memories that Meyra kept in her heart, making them part of who she was today.

Therefore, it would have been completely illogical for Meyra not to want to share with Jun the content of that letter, such a thing that had the power to make the ground beneath her feet tremble. That became a constant presence hovering invisibly over her head, weighing on her shoulders and conscience, forcing her to make a decision about it and having to live with the fear that that decision, whatever it would be, it could ruin something as sacred to her as the people she loved most. Beyond that, just as they had shared dreams, Mey and Jun had also shared their worst nightmare, and that letter, somehow, also included the fate that had been presented to her best friend, so it was only fair that she should also be aware of what was written there.

Jun stood up from the seat across from her and came to sit beside Meyra. Her close presence immediately brought that familiar feeling of comfort that warmed and calmed her heart, a type of magic Jun had born with. Jun had always managed to have this effect on her, like a soft breeze that always brought her an embrace, even if invisible she could always feel it. Jun gently took Mey's hand on hers and gave it a light squeeze, assuring her that she was there and that she wasn't going anywhere. As always, they were together no matter what came next. Meyra smiled at that, a small smile tinged with sadness that she couldn't shake even if she desperately wanted to, and nodded in agreement with her friend's words before Jun began to read the letter that had caused all of that mess living within her, "Thank you" Meyra said in a whispered voice.

Not that Meyra needed to read it again, she was sure that by now she already knew it by heart, word for word. But still, Meyra moved closer to Jun, reading over her cousin's shoulder, for the millionth time, the text written by that stranger who meant so much to her life and her family's.
To Harumi,

You know I'm not a man to use many words and try to smooth things when I want to say something, so I'll not take much of your time trying to make my words sound nice, or falsely polite. It's the gesture of sending you this letter that is the extent of my good will to you and your family.

I also won't apologize for sending my brother to deliver this letter personally, but I can't afford for you to ignore it as you have ignored so many others before this one.

Things changed Harumi, against everything we did and sacrificed, our worst nightmare came to knock on our door and transposed it without waiting for an invitation. I've failed in what was my purpose, to keep you and our child away from danger, and for that I will live the rest of my life asking for your forgiveness. And accept that it will never come.

But I'm asking you to let me do what is right for our daughter, to offer her what its left in me to give her. I know that there are many wounds between me and you, but all I want is to be a father to Meyra, or at least, be someone that can offer her a place to feel part of and stay safe.

The world is changing, changing fast and dangerously. Doors have been open for our kin, but that is happening not without resistance. Having a community that can understand you, support and protect you it is vital for someone like me and our daughter to survive this world with dignity and purpose. I want Meyra to know that she has a home here at the Sanctuary you and me created. It used to be our piece of heaven, let it be one for our daughter.

This is the way I'm choosing to do things Harumi, keeping this polite and civilised between us, because Meyra needs us both. But allow me to be bluntly honest with you, my intention is to meet my daughter, and I will. If it happens with or without your permission that, it's your choice. But the only choice I'll fully respect will be Meyra's. The Full Moon Sanctuary is her legacy, one she needs to choose to keep or leave.

All werewolves and their families will always find in this place what we have always wished it to be. You and I.

With my best wishes,

Moray McCoire

The Ravenclaw‘s eyes began to flicker over the letter as she read. The style of writing was…. familiar? Almost like the familiarity of an old friend, but not quite. It had similarities with Mey’s way of words. Jun‘s fingers ran over the parchment as she read, nearly as though that could help her figure out what the reasoning behind this letter was. There was nothing that she associated with Meyra‘s father.

Jun could not remember having met him, neither was there ever an adult conversation about him that the girls had been part of. Mey’s father was like a fairy tale figure that held meaning in her life and in the family, like something that remained unseen and unspoken, but somehow still had a presence. Of course Jun remembered the two of them wondering about where Mey got some of her features and quirks from, but the love of Harumi had always been so present that Jun wasn’t sure whether Mey had ever felt like something was truly missing from her live. Though if her cousin felt that same father shaped hole in her heart, that Jun felt every day, this letter was certainly important.

While reading, her fingers stayed intertwined with her cousins. If there was one thing the two best friends always gave each other, it was comfort. This was a moment for comfort. Even though her cousin had not said it out loud, Jun felt like Mey might need that feeling of not being alone.

The further she read, the more Jun‘s heart began to stumble, her pulse picking up. She could feel it jumping in her throat, a chill almost threatening to run down her spine at the words of worst nightmare, danger, our kin and werewolves. Did this mean Meyra‘s father was a werewolf?

Just as she thought about those words, Jun wanted to mentally scold herself as what was written in this letter became increasingly clear with the following paragraph. Her eyes flew over the last words and then flickered up to her cousin’s. Jun stayed quiet for a moment, trying to figure out how to word her thoughts when they were a complete mess with a billion different topics and interpretations.

This sounds so…. Longing

Jun finally got out, her voice quiet and soft. There was another moment of silence and the Ravenclaw swallowed thickly, before speaking again.

Your Father is like us.. and I believe he really would like to meet you

It felt as though she was stating the obvious, but Jun was simply trying to sort her and perhaps also Mey‘s thoughts. Perhaps that was exactly what they needed, hearing their own thoughts spoken out loud in this quiet compartment.

And his last name… what did you think while reading this?

Before any other thought could get out, she needed to let her cousin speak and let the waterfall of words fall out, that Meyra was surely holding back.

Mey hadn't notice, but as Jun kept her beautiful, kind eyes hovering over the elegant handwriting of that letter, she hand't been able to breathe properly. Her cousin's opinion and perspective about all that was being revealed there, was as or more important, than the content of its message. During the time Mey had kept it to herself, there were doubts that inevitably took root deep within her. Did she made a mistake from which she would never be able to run away now? Was she interpreting it correctly? Was it all worthy of what she was putting at risk? There was a shadow always hovering above her shoulders every time she thought about that letter. She could call it regret, doubt or cold-sharp fear, either way, she couldn't shake it away, not alone anyway.

Jun's delicate, soft fingers were still intertwined with hers, and that helped her feel grounded, at least in part. It was impossible to make her mind feel completely quiet as the seconds passed and the silence stretched through the train compartment, as Jun kept reading that piece of parchment. During that time, even if for a few seconds, Mey battled those shadows that threatened to embrace her. It was an invisible struggle, while she did her best to keep all those intrusive thoughts under her control.

„This sounds so…. Longing“ Jun finally said in her calm, caring voice, and Meyra felt her heart tightening within her chest, waiting in anticipation for what else had Jun caught between Moray's words.

„Your Father is like us.. and I believe he really would like to meet you“

Meyra allowed herself to take a deep breath, a sigh escaping her lips, and some of the tension dissipated from her shoulders as Jun quieted some of the insistent voices whispering inside her head. "You think so?" She had to ask, to confirm it. Because even if he was her father, he was a complete stranger. What she knew about him up to that point was gleaned from the few fragments of information her mother had told her, and Meyra rarely asked questions anymore. The look in her mother's face every time that subject was brought to the table made the young girl quit from wanting to know more through her.

But as soon as that letter was brought to her mother's tea shop, by that tall, mysterious man, Meyra had the feeling she had to read it. She wasn't sure what had given her that presentiment, if it was the fact that that man was the same that showed up warning them for the werewolf attack that changed her family's frame forever, if it has been the way he had glanced her way, or if it had been his choice of words: "I understand it my friend, but he...he has the right to want to meet her.". Maybe it was bringing all those pieces together, what made her walk into that office and steal that letter from her mother. And now she needed to know more, even if her hopes would be crushed in the end.

„And his last name… what did you think while reading this?“

Mey scoffed at that question. She turned her head to momentarily look at the train's window, to the landscape quickly changing. "I kept staring at his surname." She admitted before looking at Jun again with disbelief written in her green eyes, "Doesn't it sound absurd?" She asked, her voice raising slightly, "Imagine discovering your father's name..." Mey shook her head with incredulity, "...and then realising you're possibly related with those two biggest nuisances!" The young Gryffindor almost laughed as she finished that sentence. That felt like the biggest irony life has thrown at her face.

Since day one, the older twins had messed with her and Jun. Literally since the sorting hat had left the top of her head! They were everywhere, always! Bumping into them, spreading chaos...as humans and also as wolves. Because they even shared that, that curse of the full moon that ran in their veins and transformed them monthly into monsters. If she stopped to think, those pair of green eyes always have felt different. Warm in a way that said they were kin. Now she knew with absolute certainty that they were family. That discovery had brought to her a mix of sentiments she had yet to decode, but at the surface, even if she wasn't ready to admit, she was happy to have found in them a piece of her missing story. At that realisation, a small smile tugged at the corner of her lips, "Can't believe it..." She said quietly looking at hers and Jun's intertwined hands.

"What I really do fear, is my mother's reaction to all this." She continued, lifting her eyes to look at her best friend, "I'm not afraid of meeting...him," Mey nodded to the letter that Jun was still holding in her hand, "...that seems inevitable now. But what if meeting him means that I'm betraying my mum?" She asked, her expression turning heavier with sadness, "I already failed her trust by having that letter with me...how am I going to tell her that I want to meet my...father?" Meyra paused for a heart bit, bitting on her lip, before... "What would you do Jun?"
