xx![]() Story I : Gathering intel xx Richard was taking advantage of the rainy weather that Saturday morning to go to the Library. With a relaxed gait, a half-eaten apple in his hand, his satchel weighed down only by parchments and various trinkets, the boy was preoccupied with only one thing: finding everything he could about the Parseltongue language. He climbed the stairs with ease, weaving through the students who were trying to find something to occupy their boredom. He shivered from time to time, dressed simply in a thin black sweater from which the collar of his dark blue shirt peeked out. Having stood so long in front of the fireplace earlier had completely skewed his perception of the true ambient temperature. Oh well, right now, he was far too lazy to turn back and look for something warmer. |

| xx | - Having reached the correct floor, he slowed his pace, ran a deliberate hand through his hair, smoothing back his few stray locks, and stood there, observing the interior from the corridor as he finished his apple, lost in thought. A few students he'd been chatting with in class greeted him before continuing on their way. The Slytherin nodded in return. Perhaps he should accept one of their invitations sometime soon...
Once he'd finished the apple, he entered the Library, discarded his waste, and rubbed his slightly sticky hands. His steely gaze swept over each table and row of books. To his great satisfaction, the library wasn't particularly crowded. His attention then shifted to the reception desk, currently empty. He sighed deeply. Usually, he preferred to do without any help, wandering among the shelves to deduce where what he was looking for was located... but here, he had absolutely no idea where the magical languages department was and what interesting books he should have a look at. He therefore chose, initially, to wait for about twenty minutes, his back to the librarian's desk, the backs of his thighs resting against the furniture. Richard crossed his arms. If the staff was too busy, he would try to manage on his own. |

Whispers of Glimmering Scales
STORY I : Gathering intelxxx
| xxx | Ten minutes, then fifteen passed without Richard seeing a single member of staff. He figured waiting any longer would be a waste of time. Sighing, he stepped away from the reception desk, stretched quickly, relishing the tingling sensation that ran through him, and then began to wander through the aisles of the vast schoolโs library. History of magicโฆ Potionsโฆ Myths and legends of Eastern Europe. One thing was always remarkable about coming here: you could come in with the intention of focusing on a particular subjectโฆ and end up with five books that had absolutely nothing to do with your initial goal. Richard shook his head. Enough time had slipped through his fingers. He forced himself to silence his stream of curious thoughts and coldly observed the edges of the lined-up textbooks. It was at the end-far-right section of the library, nestled under one of the arches, that the Holy Grail finally appeared. There, some twenty books and parchments were gathering dust beneath the sign Parseltongue. Now excited by his discovery, he picked up four books and carried them to a single table nearby. He raised an eyebrow at the unusual nature of the study space. It was a sort of tiny, ornate wooden enclosure, accessible through a magically transparent door. Puzzled by the structure, Richard set down all his belongings and looked from side to side, noticing the countless runes that shimmered softly, embedded in the wood. He finally shrugged. Perhaps it was for students who wished to feel cut off from the rest of the world. It was only when he opened the first book, entitled The Parseltongue Families of Great Britain, that this strange bubble of study made perfect sense. He had barely turned the first few pages when loud hissing sounds rose from the pages. โNum-axroikseqa reks okums sra dakcamdomsk uk Sorozor omd sruka uk sra Bemdarkโฆ" 1 He quickly closed the book. The noise was so loud that Richard looked around, but no, no one nearby seemed disturbed by the audible mess. The runes had activated a shield of silence. Richard's lips stretched into a triumphant smirk. His smile, however, vanished very quickly when, having opened the book again, it unleashed a litany in Parseltongue that made his head spin. He closed the book once more, wincing. A migraine was beginning to rear its ugly head. Richard slowly and firmly massaged his temples. โSalazar, what a pain to listen to!โ the boy muttered with a grimace. |

The Slytherin jumped from his chair in surprise. โSorry, sorry! No need to eat me, let me get used to it!โ growled the Slytherin as if talking to one of his little sisters. The snake hoisted its tail back before returning to the book. |

Richard let out a small laugh of relief. โThatโs betterโฆโ he said, wiping his forehead. โThis is how we get to be friends, you and Iโฆโ he finally concluded, feeling his migraine gradually subside. Whispers of Glimmering Scales

STORY I : Gathering intel - Final Post
| xxx | - The opening chapters immediately caught Slytherin's attention. They explored the differences and similarities between the hereditary abilities of the Parselmouths and those of the Binders, who for millennias had maintained rituals and uncompromising discipline to forge unique bonds with what they called "familiars." However, despite Richard's attempts to learn more about this second category of wizards, nothing further was added about them in this manual. He quickly flipped through the indexes of the other books in his stack... there too, nothing more than rudimentary instructions for understanding the language. Nevertheless, he decided to keep this information in mind, quickly scribbling a few keywords in his personal notebook, as the potential associated with the Binders might prove useful to him once he was older and stronger. He tilted his head from left to right, to relieve the tension that was beginning to stiffen the muscles in his neck. He sighed as he leaned over the first learning manual. The first hour was particularly arduous: the language itself commanded to apply such a different way of thinking from a human being that he felt his brain might rebel against him, even losing his own native tongues. What puzzled him was that he had never experienced this odd sensation while learning the Veela language. He surmised that the animalistic aspect of Parseltongue was too dominant. He tried to repeat the sentences spoken by another, smaller spectral serpent, but his throat quickly reminded him that he was not at all equipped for it. Richard continued to cough, despite having drunk at least a liter of water. "Omrae dakcamdomsk com vrudica sra kuimdk uk uir mubra romsiosa. Trek kvaceor seks sros bemdk ik susasrar kodak ik kvaceor vezordk, vruk komae, dakvesa sraer kaork, roqa amqead omd sread su ksaor srruisr brocd kosec resakโฆ"1 Richard raised his eyebrows, perplexed as he listened to the translator. Steal? How could anyone steal their ability? Again, no logical answer crossed his mind. Biting into a small cake he'd managed to snatch from the kitchens, with the help of one of the school elves, he observed the woman's portrait, displayed just above the quote. It read Miss Berrows, Potions Master, Montrose. Richard couldn't help but jump in his chair. He brought the manual closer to his eyes. The name was familiar, very familiarโฆ Montrose? Surely he'd met her there? But that young face, probably twenty-something, didn't make it easy to remember. She must have aged since the book came out. His steely eyes slid over her hair, her serious and dignified gaze, her features delicate and pale. In the Slytherin's mind, the gears whirred frantically. How could he know someone he didn't know? The answer remained stubbornly on the tip of his tongue. He tore a page from his notebook, his hands trembling, and placed it on the portrait, which gazed at him with restrained curiosity. Taking a pencil, he sketched the woman's general features as precisely as possible. The boy grimaced; drawing had never been his strong suit. After a good twenty minutes of effort, he straightened his back and assessed the result. It was far from brilliant. He wrote the woman's name and, below it, her title. That very evening, Richard hastily sent an owl toward the Montmorency House. 1 "โOnly descendants can produce the sounds of our noble language. This special gift that binds us together makes us special wizards, whom many, despite their fears, have envied and tried to steal through black magic ritesโฆโ WC: 534
